The Fire Nimue section of the atrium is located in the bottom-left hand corner. It's easy to tell where it starts. All the lush fern-like plants disappear and sparse cactuses in pots begin to appear. The texture of the stone path changes from smooth grey riverstones to slates of reddish-orange sandstone.
Two large skylights beam down on the sandstone, heating it up to the point that it remains warm after the sun has set. Here you can find the Fire Nim.
Fire Nim love sunbathing. They can often be found lying on the various rocks in the area soaking up the sun from the skylight. The types of rock vary dramatically. While Water Nim like shiny objects and Wind Nim like sound, Fire Nim love texture and so the rocks range from as abrasive as sandpaper to as smooth as a mermaid's tear.
Large shallow bowls full of some kind of oil are also scattered about the area and the Fire Nim can be found darting into them to bath. It's a fascinating sight to see. The oil is flammable so as the Nim touch down the entire bowl goes up into flames. As the Nim dart off, the flames will die down only to shot up again as another Fire touches down. The effect, particularly at night is both unsettling and gorgeous. It is like the fires of a minature hellscape or the distance view of a number of suns flaring in the nightsky.
The oddest object in this area is a large sandbox. For some reason, perhaps because of their love of texure, the Fire Nimue often spend much of this time rolling about in the sand, scrubbing it on themselves in a manner very similar to their oil baths. The Fire Nims are, in this way, as industriously lazy as a cat and they often spend their days going from rock to oil to sand to rock.
Spectrum is my oldest Nim and also the first one that I've bred, and seems to have a very odd recessive gene. She's very unusual in markings and is highly distinctive. She's particularly gorgeous during an oil bath when her colors are highly glossed and bathed in flame.
Spectrum rules the Fire area with an iron-fist when awake. Fortunately most of her time is spent happily sleeping on various rocks, which she has been known to shove other Nimue off of when she is in need of a nap. The only Nimue whom get Spectrum moving during naptime is Lenore, whom Spectrum seems to be fascinated by. What the nature of that fascination is, I can't tell.
Iridis, a child of Spectrum. Remember that recessive gene I mentioned? Iridis's gorgeous butterfly wings are an excellent example of it. Although she lacks in the body markings that her siblings have, Iridis's rainbow color is probably the most pure.
Iridis is a far cry from her mother. She is very industrious and can often be found bathing in the oil bowls or in the Wind Nim areas, flinging herself in front of the fan with her sister. She seems to be particular friends with Rosa and the two of them often disgruntle Spectrum by using Rosa's water to build castles in the sandbox.
