[The Story]
The fire pit crackled hissed as the flashlight was passed around the circle. it was the first campfire of the summer and one by one each participant took the flashlight and told their scary stroies. Most were awfully dull. some were decent, and others just made you giggle. When the flashlight finally reached Doomi. She paused a moment. She had the perfect story in mind, but she wasn't sure she was ready to share it just yet. She let out a sigh and pushed away her small anxieties. doomi took a deep breath and began her unique tale...
Quote:
You all know about the shop my good friend Moosie and I run together, right? Heck, some of you are cortlins yourselves! I know you've probably wondered how you came to be. Well, let me tell you. Cortlins are thought to have originated over a century ago, a man by the name of Seragus Whittledrop responsible. A most popular toy shop owner of his time, Seragus was always experimenting with new ideas to keep his customers satisfied. He was known to spend days at a time locked in his dark, dusty workshop not allowing himself to emerge until he created a new toy. He took his business incredibly seriously. Often, he would not eat nor sleep for long periods of time. It was this self-induced torture that finally drove him mad.
He began forming these lurid wooden dolls whose appearence mimicked the pain he put himself through. All of the dolls had been modeled after a specific animal, wild or tame, and were horibly deformed. Along with their disabilities, almost each creature bore a strangely alluring, colored heart somewhere on their flesh.
Customers stopped coming when he placed the dolls in his store front window, but he refused to take them down. Slowly but surely the once popular toy shop went out of business. Three years later at the age of 62, Seragus Whittle drop died of pnemonia. While volunteers packed up Mr. Whittledrop's belongings, none of the disturbing animal dolls could be found. The volunteers figured he had finally sold them, as unlikely as that was. All of Seragus's personal belongings went to the closest family member he had; his nephew, Johnathan Kairn. Among these items was a large wooden chest with dense brass handles and a heavy lock, that none of the volunteers had thought to check.
Five years later, Johnathan, now 26, was looking through the basement for a rag when he happened upon the chest. He had completely forgotten about it and had never opened it. He kicked at the lock and it squeaked and fell off into his hand. To his surprise the old chest contained many worn diaries, one of which was blank. He spent alot of spare time pondering these old diaries, especially the blank one. Johnathan Kairn passed away only a year later of unknown causes.
For the longest time the chest lay hidden in the dusty, dreary, corner of the basement, untouched by human hands. After some odd years, a new family moved in to the old house, and while cleaning out the basement, threw out all the clutter; including the chest and diaries.
That same afternoon, I, Doomi, was doing my usual Wednesday trash picking when I spotted the old chest, just sitting on the curbside, ready to go out with the rubbish. I was quite drawn to the chest and decided to to check it out. I walked over to the particular corner and grasped the thick, rusted, brass handle. The metal was smooth and cool, despite the high temperatures that day. I desided to take it home for further investigation and began lugging it in the direction of my house. Back at home Moosie was waiting for me.
"What's that?" she asked as I dragged the chest through the door.
"I dunno.. It looked cool so I took it. Here, gimme a hand" Moosie bent down and picked up the other side of the peculiarly heavy chest. We managed to make it all the way to the tool shed without collapsing. Given a closer look, the chest's handles bore many hand carved inscriptions in fancy print, but the only legible one read, 'Cortlins' we shrugged and heaved the chest atop a stool. Moosie and I each picked up a hammer and struck the chest, as it was rusted over, until it gave way.
"Hey, look at these!" I said reaching into the chest and pulling out the diaries, placing them on the shed's tool table.
"Wierd," Moosie said as she opened one of them, "it has a list of items. You know.. kinda like stuff we could find at the craft store down town. It looks like the person who wrote this was trying to make something" But I wasn't listening. While exploring the wooden bottom of the chest I had discovered a secret compartment. I let out a gasp as an entire array of odd looking animals was revealed. I picked up one up out of the chest and examined it. It was a pink stuffed rabbit with what looked like a bite out of his ear and a rather disgruntled look upon his face.
"Aww, he's adorable" I said, but Moosie was already fishing through the compartment. She plucked out a rather sickly looking giraffe with but three legs.
"Yeah, but what are we gonna do with all of these? I'd feel bad about leaving them all in the bottom of the chest and we both know that you haven't got the room for them" she said peeking at the rest of the dolls.
"We can share them with our close friends. It'll be great! We'll each have a unique doll of our own," I replied giving my rabbit a hug, "right...Mr. Happy?"
It was three days later that I was in my room rocking out loud into a green comb with Mr. happy, now reffered to as Milo, sitting atop my dresser, when I heard someone shout.
"What the hell are you doing?!" I heard above the music. I turned to see my new friend sitting on the bed with his arms crossed, his eyes blinking and his chest moving in and out with each breath.
"Mr. Happy, you're alive!" I screeched and flung myself at the rabbit, embracing him in a large hug. Having been living as a gaian for sometime now, I was not at all alarmed and was accustomed to, well.. wierd things happening.
"Duh, retard!" he squeaked out between gasps for air. It was right then at that moment that I decided to start a shop with the help of Moosie. I'd call it Cortlins, same as the inscription on the chest.
"C'mon Mr.Happy, I'll make you some chocolate milk. You havent lived 'till you've had chocolate milk, but then again, you know the feeling.." I scooped up my rabbit and headed out my bedroom door.
A sarcastic, "whatever" was all he said.

[The Rules]

General::
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Do not under ANY circumstances take, use, or alter any of the images in this shop, be it a banner, tag or actual pet. [unless you are the pet's owner and want your pet in a journal, banner etc..] If you think you have special circumstances please pm the shop mule explaining why you should be permitted to use an image. Anyone caught stealing will be reported to a moderator for a violation of the Gaian TOS and will have your account locked. Think before you act stupid =D

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Do not steal any concepts, ideas, stories, or written text from this shop. It is just as bad as stealing artwork, if not worse because most of the text is Doomi's and she's ten times meaner than Moosie [e.i. she'll rip off your pesticles <3]

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Follow general breedables rules.. you know the drill. Cybering, fighting, flaming are all banned. [what loser cybers in the freakin' breedables anyway? e__e]

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Pming the mule with questions is allowed but posting them in the thread is preffered, and keeps the sluggish thread a little more active. Any questions we recieve that have been answered on the front page will be ignored. Repeating a question shows us that you do not care enough about these pets or this shop to read what we have worked quite hard on and does not put you in good favor with us. o,_o,

For Owners::
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. All owners must post in the thread a bare minimum of twice per week. This rule does not apply, only if you are going away or will not have access to the internet for a prolonged period of time and have notified either Doomi or Moosie through the shop mule. We have been very lenient with this rule in the past and have let alot of things slide, mainly because we are good friends with all of the owners, but starting now the rule will be enforced and we will keep track. Anyone who does not meet this simple requirement will have their pet killed off, or if it is young enough, given away or raffled/auctioned.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. If you want your pet to reach the final, third stage, some role play is required. We realize that for non-rpers this means only two stages, but you'll have to live with it. We are tired of the thread being inactive and dull. It is partially your responsibilities as owners to use the thread and keep it a happy, active environment.

Well if Cortlins HQ isn't run by oompa loompas.. then who is it run by?! o___o

DoomiUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Doomi runs the shop and well.. she's the happiness manager =D She runs happy fun time events and cool stuff like that. She's the all-around designated cool person of the Cortlins HQ. You might sometimes hear Moosie refer to doomi as Lexi, it's not that Moosie's insane as Doomi claims, but that actually is her real name. Doomi is still 14, but will be 15 on September 12. Though not the brightest, Doomi is probably the most interesting person Moosie's ever met. She's funny even when, well.. you really shouldn't be funny. She's got an mad sense of humor and creativity to match. She has three pets, Sparky, the springer spaniel border collie mix, and two cats; Rocky and Muffy.

MoosiefateUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Moosiefate is Doomi's right hand man aka advisor person. Moosie's real name is Tamsin, and she's 14, but almost a whole year younger than Doomi. Unlike doomi, Moosie's not lucky enough to be an only child with a hojillion half siblings, she has been graced with a lovely little brother. And by lovely I mean evil =] moosie plays soccer on a division 2 U-14 team. Moosie does alot of computer art, but also has alot more traditional media she has never scanned [she likes it that way x3;] In real life, Moosie is usually spotted wearing blue jeans, a pink T-shirt with a black heart in the corner, and light olive green converse. According to Doomi, she's uber neat =D

[The Cortlins Listings]
This section of the headquarters is used to monitor any and all cortlin growth. The chart below is arranged in the order of third to first stage, and then according to most recent growth onto older cortlins. The transparent hearts in the corner of each paper leaflet represent the cortlin's current stage; three hearts for third stage, two hearts for second, and, obviously, one for first.

[RP Guidelines]
Most role play is done in the Cortlins HQ. When considering an rp, keep in mind that it is required to reach third stage. The two most popular settings are the den and the kitchen. The den is very lofy and smells of pine. There is a hanging ceiling fan and the plywood rafters are easily visible against the brick walls. There are a handful of couches and comfy chairs, most of them are old, one or two are new. Next to the door that leads to the kitchen there is one Sony T.V. set atop a bookshelf that was donated by Moosie's parents.

In the kitchen there are two tables, one larger for the adult cortlins, and one smaller for the younger cortlins. The two large windows about the coutertop let the cool breeze into the usually stuffy kitchen. Located next tothe door leading the the den is a small bookshlev full of cook books. Courtesy of Doomi, there is always hot tea and usually some tasty snacks spread out on either a table or one of the couters. Doomi is good at cooking just about anything.. except soup. Be sure and avoid the kitchen on Thursday- soup day.

There is also a courtyard overgrown with trees and shrubbery. There is one giant, old, oak in the center of the yard, it's branches perfect for climbing. Postoolio has spent many-a-day among it's limbs, having learned to rest in the softest leaf clusters.

[Cortlins Mating]
Believe it or not, it takes alot of hard work to creat a cortlin. The doll must be carefully constructed by either Moosie or Doomi using only the finest materials. After Construction, the doll's name and the materials used to create it must be written down in the once blank journal, and along with the journal be placed in the old chest overnight. Once removed, it takes three to four days for the cortlin to come to life. In the case of breeding, a snipet of hair, a feather, or a few scales must be taken from each cortlin and be used in the construction of their child. After that the same steps are follwed as those taken in the creation of an original cortlin. Second stage is the only stage during which a Cortlin has the option of breeding. Keep in mind that breeding slots must be reserved during second stage, but the actual baby may not arrive until one or both of the parents has reached final stage. Though no breeding can occur, cases of love blossoming in final stage have been documented. The cost of reserving a slot on the breeding chart is typically 5k; normally 2.5k from each owner. Cortlins will almost always produce one child, twins are extremly scarce. Cortlins may be bred a maximum of two times in a lifetime. Any two cortlins can breed, gender is never a factor. All Cortlins resulting from breeding are to be co-owned and can be roleplayed freely by either owner or according to arrangements made by said owners.

[Sales]
There are many ways for someone to obtain a cortlin [i.e.. auction, flatsale, raffle, contest ect...] The only problem is, that these events are scarce, seeing as each cortlin is completely unique in every stage; most can see how this would be a pain for Moosie, the artist. This post is where you'll find any hints to a future sale. the last cortlins sale was a few months ago methinks...

Currently Plotting...

...a flatsale =D

Flatsale Rules

A typical flatsale consists of anywhere between two and five cortlins. In the event of a flatsale, all cortlins eligible for adoption will be shown in this post. Each cortlin will have a small number next to it. When Moosie or Doomi posts [while on the mule account] anything in
large blue letters you may PM a completely filled out flatsale form to the mule [forms sent to moosie or doomi will be ignored] Now, this rule means that we could post octopus in large blue letters if they wanted to, and it would still be the start of the flatsale, so be on your toes. Keep in mind Moosie and Doomi do not do typical speed flatsales, oh no, so the flatsale form changes with each sale. The form will usually have questions about yourself, or sometimes just trivia. This lets us get to know you and gives the people with slow computers [like moosie!! she feels your pain!] an equal chance. The people selected for ownership will be the people with the answers Doomi and Moosie like the most; this means there is no right or wrong answer, simply amusing and dull ones. A flatsale's unique form will always be found in this post the day of the sale. Participants usually have 12 hours until we stop accepting forms.

[Breedables Exchange]
Okay, heres the deal. Unlike other shops, We're not going to put up a list of the pets we're willing to trade for; instead we want you to use your best judgment and decide if the pet you want to offer is of equal quality to the Cortlins. If you feel that it is a close match, send the mule a pm, and if you've done your job, the'll most likely be a happy ending =] here are some pointers to help you:

How good is your shop's artwork?
Is the shop organized and the front page attractive and orderly?
Does your pet have at least three stages like the cortlins?

Seeing as this shop is co-owned, you would think we would do a trade with two pets for two pets, right? No. Or not normally at least. In the case that we do accept your offer to pet trade it will be a one for one trade, and the pet will usually go to Doomi, as she has more time to role play and care for pets than Moosie does.
Pets We Have Traded for:
