While taking a walk through the business section of Barton town, you've stumbled across a large, off-white mansion, settled comfortably between a shop selling angelic kittens and another offering what looks like M&M-colored bouncing blobs. The front walk and yard appear to be well cared for, and a small sign next to the door advertises "Children of the Crystal: Konokai Headquarters" in elegant letters. It looks normal enough, but for the magic-sensitive, the whole place seems to radiate power and energy. Knocking on the large wooden front door, you open it and take a cautious look inside. "Hello?"

Your voice echoes down a small hallway, and you notice a door to your right is open. Stepping through it, you find yourself in a large, comfortable room, couches and armchairs set up in a rectangle around a coffee table while potted plants provided welcome touches of greenery and flowers. Crayon drawings hang here and there along the walls, most signed in child's scrawl; a desk is set up on your left, files spread across the top as well as the miniature refridgerator, file cabinet and table behind it. Sprawled on the rug is a girl that looks between ten and thirteen years old, her reddish-brown hair accented by a pair of blue green dragon wings. Beside her sits what looks like a cross between a cow and a dog, tail wagging. "Hi!" The child grins at you, waving, and a thick silver cuff on her left wrist clanks slightly. "Are you here to adopt a Konokai?"

You nod - slowly - and she turns toward a door behind the desk, bellowing, "MOM! Someone's here for you!"

"Thanks, Dray." A short young woman steps into the room, shaking thick, dark blue curls from her pale, heartshaped face. Behind a pair of blue glasses, deep green eyes looked at the child wryly. "I think they heard you in Duram. Or at least in Alterealm." Turning, she smiles at you, voice friendly. "Hello, I'm Rune Traverse. This is Konokai headquarters. We're always looking for caring, responsible Guardians to join our little center - would you like to take a look around?"

<img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y198/Konokai_Crystals/Shop%20Banners/Story.png" alt="How did we get here?" align="center">

Nearly Eleven Thousand years ago

It was to be the end of the Ruined Night's War. River Fellain, daughter of the Fellain Clan, leaned her elbows against the stone balcony railing and stared out into the starry night, lost in thought. Led by her eldest brother, she and her orphaned siblings had devised a final, desperate attack against the forces of the Demonic Triad, using all the Konokai crystal they could gather. As the most powerful clan of Fey, they would be successful, she knew - but what would happen to the universes they had fought so hard to protect? What of their allies, or the thousands of innocents and creatures who could be destroyed?

Even more regretful, the new Hub they had discovered would never be fully explored. River regretted that immensely. It was she who had named it, after all - Alterealm, the altered realm, a place that could be so much more than it appeared. There were creatures in that place she had never seen before, beings with as much power as the Fey and more. Maybe if they had more time, they could have made friends with these other races, convinced them to join in the battle against their common enemy. But they had run out of time. River laughed softly to herself, without bitterness. They had as much chance of help as they did of finding the children her parents had lost so long ago. Pushing herself upright, she looked at the stars for a moment more, then turned to head inside. They would make do with what they had. It was the way of the Fey.

The next night after the battle, in a large meadow within Alterealm -

A small child sat on a large, flat stone, looking up at the starry sky. It was different here than within the Fey Hub - different constellations, she'd been told - but in some ways, it was just as pretty. She hoped the family she'd never met were looking up at equally pretty skies tonight. Behind her, a cloaked, shadowed figure materialized, and the little girl pointed up as the northern sky lit with a wash of bright, trailing lights. "What are those, Kami?"

The shadow didn't seem to move, but a soft voice echoed on the light wind. They are the remnants of your family's sacrifice, saati. The Fellain Clan have destroyed the evil, but in doing so, they have shattered their power and torn the universes apart. This is one of the only Hubs that has remained intact. It hesitated, then said even quieter still, Those crystals are imbued with Fey magic, saati. They will give birth to new protectors, new champions. The evil ones will come after them. Still others will seek to control them.

"Yep." Getting to her feet, the small child dusted off her hands and behind. "They're not falling here, though. We'll have to wait for someone to find them, and bring them home, before we can do anything." She looked up at the figure.

"So can we eat now, Kami?"

In summary: The Fey long ago - led by the Fellain Clan - defeated the Demonic Triad in a battle that shattered the universes into fragments. But in Alterealm, there were other, more powerful races, some good and some evil, and they've started to rise now. So the Konokai - along with the Descendants of the Fellain Clan and their Guardians - have been charged with protecting the innocent.

The 'Overplot' is something that involves the Guardians, the Konokai, and the races that inhabit Alterealm. All Konokai are involved in it, but whether or not the Guardians are depends entirely on your choice. Below is a list of the Guardians currently connected to the quest, and a short idea of how they're connected.

High Guardians

arrow Rune Traverse - Guardian of several Konokai, transformed Fable, defacto leader of the new champions. Born a Rare Blood, thought to be a Descendant of the Fey.
arrow Keiko Mitsu - Guardian of three Konokai, Ithralian, Rune's best friend.
arrow Heero Himura - Guardian of one Konokai, Youkai, given draconic-Fable abilities by unknown Alterealm creature.

A note about Direct Descendants: At this point, the Direct Descendants of the Fellain Clan are already named - all thirteen known and four of the unknown - even if they aren't appearing in the RP. However, if anyone can come up with a history for the direct Descendant of another important Clan, like the thieves or soldiers of the Fey, I'd be more than happy to arrange it.

Quote:

What the heck are these things?

These are children that grow from special, magically influenced crystals. They come from a special land to here.

So what are these Inventory, Class Status and Legend things?

The Inventory in your Journal is for the things that don't belong or won't fit in the inventory of the cert; the weapons you accquire, jewelry, special things, etc. The Class Status has to do with any RP'd classes your child has completed, whether physical training or magic. These statistics allow your child to do more things, especially within Alterealm. The Legend is where the records of the Konokai's purpose and backstory are placed.

OMFG kan i hav 1?!1?

Um, no, not when you ask like that. And if there aren't any openings, the answer is usually no anyway.

How come *insert name* got one and I didn't? Or got a 'better' one than me?

Possibly because they paid attention to the rules, and they didn't whine, or they managed to present an entry / bid / whatever that I liked. All the Konokai are unique - none of them are better than the others. But if you don't like yours, you can always give him / her back.

I waaaaaant it. Gimme one, or I'll *insert threat here*!

Tough. Whining, threatening and other things of that nature aren't allowed here, and if you start them, you go to the grey list, then the blacklist. It's just that simple.

How do I get one, then?

Through Flatsales or auctions, or the occasional pet trade. Or bribing Rune for a custom. xd

How many can I have?

Up to five children at any one time, although I might make special exceptions.

Can I buy them toys, items, or pets?

Not only can you, it's completely encouraged.

Are these role-play required?

Oh yeah. The Konokai require at least one roleplay every three to four weeks, and at least one journal entry every two months. If you have to leave on hiatus for whatever reason, leave a note for Rune, but if we haven't heard from you in about two to three months, your Konokai child will be returned to the Center and readopted. There are no refunds for this.

How fast do they grow?

That depends entirely on how much you RP. The more you RP and develop your child, the faster they grow.

What are these quest scrolls?

Depending on how they're given out, they can signify either growth, ability or more insight in the child's purpose. The different colors have to do with the different types of quests. Check the item shop for more info.

Can these guys breed?

Yes - including with those of other shops. See the Breeding post for more information.

Are other children or lurkers allowed in the RPs?

Yes, of course, so long as you keep it in character. Siblings - like Banir Kinder, ACC or Sin children - are more than welcome.

Where did the story come from?

As a novelist, I've written several series / trilogies / etc. At least eight of them are connected via a prequel story about the Fey. So technically, everything in the story is (c) me, except those bits that belong to the other Guardians.

Hey, it's Alter-realm! You forgot the second r!

Actually, I didn't. It's translated from a single Glyphic word, so I dropped the second r. It's spelled Alte-realm.

Are you nuts?

You actually have to ask that?

::: Shop Rules :::

arrow No flaming, whining, or begging will be tolerated in this thread. I'm flattered you like the Konokai - or sorry you don't - but neither will get you anywhere.
arrow Don't argue with Rune or Keiko, for we are gods. No, I'm kidding, we're just people. As such, we can make mistakes, but if you think we did so, then drop Rune a PM. Don't bring it in here.
arrow Lurkers are welcome to post and RP, but please, don't interrupt an RP already in progress unless you've asked first. It would be rather awkward.
arrow Please, please read the whole first two pages before PMing Rune or Keiko with questions. Rune's PM box is already mostly full; sifting through things like "what's the difference between a custom and a semi-custom?" and "can I buy more than one familiar?" would get tedious pretty fast.
arrow DO NOT steal my art! Every Konokai, weapon, pet, mount, familiar and item (except scrolls) are hand-drawn by me, and currently colored either by me or Laurrana. Stealing will get you black-listed and mod-reported.
arrow The Konokai concept and Fey storyline are mine. As I'm currently in the process of finding an agent for my novels, I'm fairly touchy about this, and 'clone' shops - specifically, children born from hunks of multi-universal life crystal and returning to their original dimension, an RP involving the Guardians being given their own abilities, etc. - will just fry my bacon, if you get the point. If you have an idea you think might be similar but want to try, drop me a PM. I don't bite.
arrow Respect the Gaia ToS. Kind of a duh.
arrow SAVE TO YOUR OWN SERVER! I can't stress this enough. Even with a new account, all the stuff we're going to offer could seriously overload Photobucket if everyone direct linked. So I will PM you the new copy of your cert when your child grows, and they will also be set in the pickup section underneath Current Children for a certain amount of time. The only direct link will be at the tops of the journals.

::: Role-play Rules :::

arrow Konokai are Role play required. This means the RP is not optional; if you adopt a Konokai, you accept the responsibility of caring for that Konokai. If you don't think you can do that, this probably isn't the shop for you.
arrow Konokai all have a certain set of abilities in common; limited telepathy and telekinesis, low-power energy bursts, and wards are most of them. I expect them to use their powers, intentionally or not. They also speak Glyphic and Heiraldic instinctively. However, the Guardians - unless cleared by Rune or taught - cannot understand either tongue. Rune herself doesn't know more than a handful of words in Glyphic, though she does speak Heiraldic.
arrow When chatting OOC (out of Character) please use brackets to distinguish the conversation from the RP. Otherwise it can get annoying.
arrow I'm not a grammar Nazi or anything, but I expect a decent degree of good speech and literacy. You may not be a novelist, but the 133T chatspeak is a great way to get blacklisted.
arrow Lovers or boyfriends / girlfriends are expected as well - above the youth stage, of course - but graphic sex and that sort of thing are NOT allowed in the thread. If you want to do something like that, take it somewhere out of Gaia.
arrow Guardians with their own special powers - a shapeshifter, an elemental mage, what have you - are fully able to use their own abilities, within Alterealm or in HQ. If someone else's idea of something doesn't fit with yours - their vampires can go out in sunlight, their werewolf can shape-change at any time - the answer is simple; they're from a different dimension. If you can't handle that, then this probably isn't the shop for you.

::: Journal Rules :::

arrow Every Journal must have one or more posts for Child Inventory, Class Status, and Legend. See the F.A.Q. for information as to what they are.
arrow A listing of the various friends and important people in your Konokai's life is helpful, particularly when they'll be showing up in the RP and / or they aren't Konokai themselves. Pictures are nicer still, but not entirely necessary.
arrow You are responsible for keeping track of special items, abilities and the Legend of your Konokai as they are given to you. I cannot keep track of all of them, so I expect you to keep up with it.
arrow Journal entries are expected at least once or twice a month. The only exception the this is if you haven't had time to write them and have been roleplaying in HQ. This is a big rule, and not following it can result in the readoption of your Konokai.

These are the standard lists most shops have. The white List contains people that are good friends of mine, have been wonderful to the shop, or both. The Greylist is people who have committed minor rule-breaking, like annoying people in the shop or PMing questions. They can get off this list as long as they don't do it again. The Blacklist is people who have broken the rules seriously / more than once. This list is pretty much permenant, and they are not only banned from the shop but will have their Konokai readopted if they are a Guardian.

::: The White List :::

heart Keiko Mitsu - our KMASTA, mother of three Konokai, and Rune's best friend. Show her luff or be destroyed. xd She runs Mitsu Books.

heart Laurrana - our main colorist. Fast, good and fair. Luff her too, and visit her atLaurrana's Sword Shop.

heart Korini - Mother of Grace, Aunt of Rune's kids, and all around wonderful person. Runs the Anime Cosplay Children Adoption Center with Tenshi.

heart Tenshi_Kuronaho - Fellow Aunt of Rune's kids and co-owner of the ACC with Korini. Puts up with Rune, so show her much love. She also runs the Checker Blossoms.

heart Noyama, Heero Himura, and SillyAngelKitty - Aunts and Uncle of Rune's kids, specifically her younger set, and (for the latter two) parents of Konokai themselves. Supportive and wonderful. biggrin Noyama is part owner of this shop, while Silly is part owner of Bamboo Forest.

heart Arafel - An incredibly talented artist who could never be praised as much as she should be. Also the mother of Yin and Yang, and auntie to Rune's kids. (is anyone sensing a pattern here?) She runs several awesome shops, including the Banir Kinder and the Ai'Shiteru.

heart Draco_blue_flame - 'cause he'd kill me if he wasn't here. *laughs* Nah, he may drive me crazy occasionally, but he's a good guy. We'll teach him to RP properly next week. xd *evil amusement*

heart Kamiki - for not completely shutting down the Blood Customs. She's awesome. And for those who don't know, she runs the Gaian Maternity and Fertility Clinic.

::: The Grey List :::

stare No one yet.

::: The Black List :::

evil blackdeath_020202 - posted while the thread was in creation, with no need and when it said no posting. Permanent.

This is the layout of the Headquarters Mansion, both in Barton Town and as it appears in Alterealm. *sidenote* Rune and her family do not usually live in Headquarters; they have their own house in the residential area of Barton. However, some of their friends do live on the third floor, and their house is magically linked to HQ. Below that is a listing of some of the rooms and their - usual functions.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

The Entry Hall:

Kind of a duh, this is where people enter Headquarters. Leads to the Living room, the Lounge and Adoption Area, and Rune's Office.

The Lounge and Adoption Area:

This is where potential Guardians meet their children for the first time - or make the adoption official, depending on the child. It's also a lounge for adults to relax in and to 'recieve' dignitaries, both Gaian and not. A large, comfortable room with sofas and stuffed arm chairs, a coffee table and several potted plants. Rune also has a desk, file cabinet and miniature fridge with diet sodas. biggrin

Rune's Office:

The organized chaos that gave birth to most things Konokai, this room is a mirror of Rune's office at home, complete with book-lined walls and crystal-globes hanging from the ceiling. The desk is normal sized, and there are several tables arranged along the length of the room, usually strewn with folders, lists, maps, books, journals, and just about anything else Rune might need for work. In here you'll find files on all the Konokai, as well as the information the group has gathered about Alterealm and the Fey.

The Living Room:

A large space designed more for meet and greets and parties than child's play, this is informally called 'the War Room' by Rune and company due to the fact that they plan most of their Alterealm quests and monster-hunting inside it's walls. With a vaulted ceiling, it has several couches, loveseats and stuffed armchairs arranged in a rough rectangle at the center of the room, along with a low table in the middle and some other counters at the sides. There's also a normal television, VCR and DVD in a wooden entertainment center on one wall. On special occasions, there's space for a buffet table off in a corner.

The Kitchen / Dining Room:

Nearly bigger than the living room, the pale brown, white-painted and green-accented kitchen was created with just about everyone, every age and every eating style in mind, thanks to a rather enterprising pair of Lizarkin called Draizy and Sato. Sato, the younger of the two, still 'works' for Headquarters, with a 'nest' (bedroom) on the second floor. Two full refridgerators sit on adjoining walls; one is full of three-course dinners, vegetables, juices and other healthy stuff, while the second has sodas and less nutritious food. The cupboards and countertops also bear an interesting mix of snacks, from potato chips and Cheez-its to fruit and trail mix. There's even an entire set of shelves - both in and out of the fridge - devoted to various baby foods. The entire second half of the room is taken up with a large table capable of seating roughly three dozen people, shrinking larger and smaller on command. There is also a small cabinet off to one side that holds booster seats and some collapsible high-chairs, in case there's a need.

The Library:

Three stories tall with an added astronomy platform at the top, the library is a testimony to Rune - and her family's - obsession with learning and books of all kinds. Lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, there is a slightly raised area in the center with several tables and chairs set up, while on the second floor there are small nooks with stuffed chairs and reading lamps. All the books are arranged according to category, much like a regular public library, and cover just about every type of study, from the usual subjects like biology and English to estoric things like hommoculous physiology and cybernetic enhancements of mage energy. One full section up on the third floor includes books on tape and braille books, as well as several cassettes about studying various languages. The platform at the top also has quite a few telescopes and star charts.

There are seven stages of the Konokai children, beginning with Item and ending with Adult. Not all will have the item stage, and growth is entirely dependant on RP. Below are the stages themselves and some idea of what the child will be like in each.

Quote:

Stage #1: Item

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/Mage_of_Illuzen/Konokai%20Banners/Samples/Samples.png">

The first stage is the Item. Similar to the Egg stage in some other pets, this is an item with a shard of the Konokai crystal embedded in it. These items can range from the mundane, like a shred of cloth or a pendant, to odd or outright strange things, like a pirate's eyepatch or a pair of stereo headphones. At this stage, the 'crystal' is able to communicate slight emotions as well as likes or dislikes by either glowing in various colors or making noises. Exposing them to different things can cause different reactions, and can help in determining your child's personality. Note: Not all Konokai children are found in item stage. This depends entirely on the specific Konokai.

Stage #2: Baby

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/Mage_of_Illuzen/Konokai%20Banners/Samples/BabySample.png">

The second stage is the Baby Stage. Here, your item has created a small child, usually appearing anywhere between a newborn and almost a year in human age, and gifted with a plushie or other toy from Rune as a 'welcome to the world' present. They have a very basic personality and set of likes and dislikes, often based on what they were exposed to as items. Around this time, your child is making new discoveries about the world around them constantly, and it is a great time to bond with the little one. Also, some of the earliest bloomers will discover one or two of their powers around this stage.

Stage #3:Toddler

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/Mage_of_Illuzen/Konokai%20Banners/Samples/ToddlerSample.png">

The third stage is the Toddler stage. Your baby has grown, and his / her personality is becoming a bit more pronounced. They can often speak - although, unless they are unusually intelligent, it isn't in full sentences - and can motor around in a crawl, if not actually walking. Some of them may gain new markings or shift in looks depending on how they are RPed; if they do not already have a stuffed animal from Rune, they'll get one, usually in matching colors. This is the stage when most Konokai also discover their abilities for the first time, or at least, enough to figure out the element or mage-school; they usually appear to be between two and five years of age.

Stage #4: Kid

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/Mage_of_Illuzen/Konokai%20Banners/Samples/ChildSample.png">

The fourth stage is the Kid stage. Appearing between six and nine years old, the kids' personalities are fairly set, and this is the time where their basic abilities will be permanent. They will start to get out into the world a bit more, and will be allowed to roam Alterealm a little more freely; they can also use weapons, and take magical lessons in the RP to help them control their powers.

Stage 5: Youth

User Image

The fifth stage is the youth stage. Look out world, your child is a 'tween,' apparently between the ages of ten and thirteen, and they're starting to get quite a bit more independant. Allowed to make excursions into Alterealm and Sierre Rafel on their own, they are also eligable for the more elite classes; they are also invited to move into Alterealm, either with their Guardian or into their own room at the Alter HQ.

Stage 6: Teen

Not pictured.

Oh no, the dreaded teen years. The sixth stage is the Teen or young adult stage. These Konokai look to be between the ages of fourteen and nineteen, and have all the moodiness, hormones and angst of most human teens. Compounded, of course, by their enhanced powers, which tend to crop up at embarrassing moments. Teens have the ability to choose Summoning Partners at this stage, and more rarely, Life-partners, although it's somewhat uncommon. They are allowed free rein of the civilized portions of Alterealm and Sierre Rafel - though not some of the more dangerous / seedier places, or Rune might have their hides - and can begin teaching younger classes or apply for jobs within the community, if they want to.

Stage 7: Adult

Not pictured.

They grow up so fast! The seventh and final stage is that of an adult Konokai. What was once a small child has grown into a lovely adult, hopefully stronger, wiser and more mature thanks to their Guardians' guidance. They are now free to move into their own home in Alterealm or Gaia - depending on their preference - and can marry as well as have children of their own aside from Summoning. They will also be gifted with one of the Lesser Shards, which will connect them to the Alterealm community and summon help in times of need.

There are currently six types of Konokai, each with their own distinct features and markings. Some types are more commonly connected to certain universes than others.

Quote:

User Image
Anthro: A Konokai that has the features of a natural animal, such as a cat, wolf, weasel, etc. This is usually ears, a tail, facial markings, and/or paws. Most anthros are from the Askani or Lightburst Universes.

User Image
Maganthro: Not the same as Anthro, a Konokai who is Maganthro has the features of a mythical animal, such as a dragon, a unicorn, a grphon, etc. Like the Anthro, however, it usually consists of ears, a tail, facial markings, scale patches, wings and/or paws. Maganthros are mostly from the Slider or Avalon universe.

User Image
Angelic: These Konokai have a circular halo, feathered wings, and occasionally runic tattoos. Most come from the Mage universe.

User Image
Deamonic: (Yes, it's spelled correctly; it comes from a Glyphic word that means 'demonic but not evil.') Konokai of the Deamonic type have horns of various shapes and sizes, demonic tails, and occasional tattoos or claws. They are usually from the Summoner universe.

User Image
Clown: Unlike the English connotations of funny or foolish clowns, the Clown type consists of those Konokai who look mostly human. They usually have very vivid coloring - either dark or light - and have multiple facial / arm markings. This type is equally likely to come from any of the universes. Special themed Konokai will usually be listed under the Clown type.

User Image
Mecha: Mecha Konokai are those who resemble androids or have talent with mechanical or electrical objects. They can come in all sorts of coloring, but all have some sort of mechanical connection, whether it's a mecha-electric bracelet as their item or an actual android or machine body part.

There will probably be a few special type auctions / raffles / contests later on, but these are it for now. If you're ording a custom but not sure what it falls under, ask here or PM me about it.

User Image

Long ago, the legends say that there were several universes, all connected to several small dimensions known as Hubs. When the Fey initiated their final attack, it shattered the universes, and no one is quite sure what happened to the others. However, each Konokai child claims a Universe as well as a type, so it is possible that some of the other universes still exist. Children with the same universe often share some of the following traits:

Quote:

User Image
Slider: Diversity, diversity, diversity. Konokai from this universe seem to have no problems accepting other creatures, no matter what they are. They're also exceedingly loyal, but often trust others too easily.

User Image
Summoner: Those from the Summoner universe often exhibit a deeply practical view of the world, almost fatalistic or even pessemistic on occasion. They can also be rather ruthless, though they have trouble trusting others, to the point of switching alliances and friendships almost on a whim.

User Image
Mage: Mage-universe types are fierce in everything, from fighting to friendship; they are almost obsessively loyal, and would do just about anything for their friends. They are also extremely intelligent, and can often read hidden meanings that others might miss.

User Image
Lightburst: The best with weapons, those of the Lightburst are usually loners, comfortable with quiet and their own thoughts as much as in the company of others. Like the Summoners, they can adapt quite quickly.

User Image
Avalon: Leaders and quite independant, Avalon Konokai often seem noble . . . and occasionally, a bit pompous. They aren't very good with change, either, though they are quite charismatic.

User Image
Askani: Possibly the best with magic, Askani-universe types have a deep sense of kinship and honor, as well as a flexible approach to life. Their hard-headed problem-solving mentality, however, can occasionally cause problems.

It should be noted that these are only guidelines to the Konokai - like humans, they run the gamut, and can resemble this profile or not. The symbol for a Konokai's universe is the second in the row at the bottom of the cert.

User Image

The magicks of the Konokai are a many-splendored thing . . . some have control over a single element, some can manipulate physical or elemental things, some are psychic, and some are just plain odd. Here are a few samples of the magics (as listed in the certs) and what they entail.

Quote:

Dark / Light / Water / etc. (e): Control and use or the element stated; usually related to the eleven Illuzen elements, although there are some from the other universes as well. The actual powers themselves depend on the element(s) involved.

Alter / Restore / etc (a): Not available yet, but there are six special styles of magic called the Aeon schools of magic.

Phasing: The ability to phase themselves or other things through objects by magically enhancing the subject's atomic structure. The limits and range depend on the Konokai's strength.

Sun / Sand / Shadow (m): Similar to the elemental abilities, This is a less focused, manipulation talent. Usually used in making solid creations; the more detailed an object is or the more of them, the higher the power involved.

Psychometry: The ability to see where an object or person has been by touch alone. What is seen is entirely dependant on the power of the Konokai.

Note: All Konokai are telepathic and have limited telekinetic / energy projection powers. These aren't listed in the certs as they are considered common gifts.

Every Konokai has a "purpose" and a "legend." Somewhere between a job, a history and a reason for rebirth, these purposes and legends (the two are tied together) are unknown at birth, then gradually revealed and developed as the child grows. Originally, these were not even known about by the Guardians; it was only after the Discovery of Alterealm that Rune and her friends discovered the Konokai 'births' were influenced by a mysterious, extremely powerful magic. This is where their legends come from, and their original purpose. However, some of the races within Alterealm have also demonstrated an ability to modify the purposes to their own ends, with varying degrees of success.

These purposes and legends define the original idea of the Konokai child, as well as their relationship to both Crystal-Kin and the Alterealm denizens. On the other hand, as the child develops, their own growing personality and contacts can come into conflict with or even change their original purpose.

For example, Dray, Nikki and Shazran were originally created - according to Flint the Mythos - with the purpose of guarding the next generation of Konokai and uniting their Kin with the closest Rare Blood who would protect them. In this case, it happened to be Rune. Their appearances - the only part of their Legend currently known - are based on three of the most famous Fey Clan Crests; the Fellain Dragon, the Skyshorn Silver-Cat, and the Komo'ora Shadowed Leaf. However, because they've been living in Gaia and exposed to dozens of strange and different cultures, they've also become very good with accepting things that might normally be considered odd or met with suspicion.

On the other hand, some of the purposes and legends are a bit more modern, and somewhat more complex. Ramene, Morgan's odd little angel, was created as shadow runner, in the image of the Konokai 'dark priestess' and keeper of their temple. But she was also created to keep watch on Morgan as a potentially dangerous power. Chloe and Rose were originally to be reborn as protectors for Ramene; but with Mirelle and Kirika's interference, they have become assassins, their 'legend' revised to become that of the two girls from the twins' former life.
