I love Ancient Rome!!

sorry if this is taking up needed space
The Roman's name was Sergio, clad in the standard Roman uniform of an iron hekmet and a breastplate of metal strips over a red tunic. A full length shield was on his left arm and a short, battle scarred, one-handed sword hung at his right side.
He was a capable soldier, fiercly loyal to the Roman Empire and it's Ceasar, and now was as a good a time as any to show it.
A full-scale attack had just been launched upon the walls of the town. It was not the largest town one would ever see, but it was expanding, and had stone fortification. The foremost reason for this expansion was the newly constructed port, and the Ceasar planned to hasten and glorify that expansion for himself - for Rome.
((Bump)) In the ranks, Sergio heard the order for the ballista to fire over the wall using flames. It came from his left behind a unit of war dogs, and a minute latere the flaming ball was quickly making it's way to the target as a unit attempted to bring down the gates. A second fiery ammunition was sent, causing havoc in the enemy ranks as it destroyed both soldiers and parts of buildings alike. The Romans would have some rebuilding to do . . .
(( stare bump . . . again . . . someone join!!)) The firing from the ballista ceased as the gates where forced open and two waiting units of war dogs did their wirk as the ranks of the Roman army marched towards the breached walls.
Heavy units of infantry moved first, fallowed by an equal amount of spearmen and archers.
As soon as they breached the wall, three heavy infantry units, each twenty men strong, faught back the distressed enemy untill they created a semi-circle, stopped only by the wall, with spearmen in the second rank, and archers a few feet back in the third.
No opposing soldier could ever break the line as the battle-hardened and highly trained infantry pushed the enemy back with the archers behind them.
(( arrow BUMP ninja ))
((HELLO?! Anoyone out there???! Still bumpin'. . . .))
((ok, so what timeline is this? Do we have Legionary Cohorts? or is it when they used just hastati and Triarii? That way I can rp the right way...I will be an Urban Cohort, and if the old version is used, a Triarii))
((The older version.)) When the time was deemed right, two mounted units sped forward past the semi-circle and hit what the remaining forces in wedge formation.
Te enemy didn't stand a chance as the first line of infantry fallowed, leaving the separmen as a line of defense on the ground as the archers took the wall; it was seized, and for either side to run was out of the question.

((ok thanks, you know I'll be a hastati))

He stood in the ranks of his fellow rookies deemed the Hastati. They took their Pyluses and got ready to throw them for any skirmish that may happen.

Suddenly an enemy infantry group started running at them...The order was given and the Hastati tossed the pyluses into the enemy ranks, knocking down random men, leaving giant wooden pikes sticking from the ground, sitting in their flesh stands.

Once the pyluses were gone, the hastati drew their Gladiuses and got ready for hand to hand combat.
((ok, more questions....Are we on the inside or outside? Who are we fighting against?))
((Well, we're taking the town I described in the first post, so that makes us outside; we're just within it's walls, so in that sense we are inside. I was thinking that we are fighting Gaul now, but you may change that if you like. We can be fighting against rebels, or Spain . . . ))
It was inevitable for opposition to be met, but it was met with unyeilding strength. Roman units attacked their enemy as a unit, trying to break them, while making their way to the central plaza. If it was taken and held, the town would fall into Roman hands with all it's wealth and profits.
As for the population, its fate would seem to be either the enslavement of one third of it, or the extermination of two thirds - whichever the leading general would decide.

((Ok Gaul sounds good. Sooo....do you play Rome: Total War?))

Brian waited for the Gauls to make it to the ranks of the first line. The hastati group here were on the west side, where the flank that the Gauls could leave was. The General had strategically placed this small unit there and hoped that it would be enough.

As the Gauls clashed with the Hastati, The disciplined Romans knocked the first line back with their shields, and then stabbed them, all slicing into the heart or lungs. Then the battle broke out, The next Gaul line pushed in and some Hastati went down. His brethren....That only forced him to fight ever harder...Brian was in the third line and he had to wait for the first two lines to be overrun before he had to fight....He held his shield forward and Retreat was not in his mind.
((Yeah, I do, that's where I got this battle from. I got the game last November with gift certificate money, and it was going quite well untill the computer started acting up and I had to wait a while before I could play again. Now I've got better memory on this thing, and can't wait to get back to it.))
A hail of spears was sent from three sides by the heavy infantry before the heavy infantry attacked the central unit defending the square. Sergio was one of them and charged with every ounce of strength he had, not just for Rome, but for his own life that would not be taken on this day. Mostly for Rome, though; duty had a strong bind, and he welcomed it.
The mounted units also charged from the sides, fell back, and charged again.
