This is Nyoka as an infant (2-10-04). My little bundle of joy!

Nyoka as a toddler (3-3-04). Along with hair and being able to see her tail now, she is now often mistaken for a boy by poeple outside of the HQ, which makes me and Nyoka, especially, quite angry.

Nyoka as a kid (4-1-04). Nyoka is growing up to be a beautiful girl. Her hair is longer, and still wild as we are both scared to comb it (the snakes o.o) and shown in the picture are the necklace that Arakel gave her (a green snake made from a seashell), and the soul-bracelet Shina gave to her as they left the spirit realm. She is never without these. Her tail is getting darker again. Could it be turning back to black? And, most noticable, Nyoka is growing in her Gorgon wings. She cannot fly with them yet, but maybe she will later?

Nyoka's Profile
Name: Nyoka Slytherin-Natenhar
Age: Youth (Over two years old)
Race: Fa'e (Medusa)
Height: When pushed up on her tail, VERY close to six feet tall. Height change due to Amazon influence.
Weight: Still refuses to weight herself.
Blood Type: Unknown - it is too dangerous to find out
Appearance: Light green skin, and a white-striped green tail. Scales under her eyes, and yellow-green eyes with a serpentine slit for her pupils. She now is bronzed, when human, due to her exstensive outdoor training in the Greek sun. She is well muscled, everywhere. She has long, messy black hair, and has black lips. A star tattoo, from Hoshi, above her belly button, and a snake tattoo that coils around her left arm, the tail on her shoulder and the head on the back of her hand. She always has her sisters bracelet on, as well as the bracelet Shina gave her.
Family: Ernia Slytherin-Natenhar (daughter, and heir )Lenore Slytherin (Mum), Damien Casnes Slytherin-Natenhar (Little Brother, whom she has started to call casnes for no apparent reason), Lucius (A sort of Uncle), , Eirnae Natenhar (Adoptive Mother, whom is missing), Shina (Sister, "Blood" Sister), Neesah (Aunt)
Close Friends: Aylana ("Blood" Sister), Kia (Like a Sister - her daughter in her past life), Astaroth ("Ally" wink , Mortimer
Companions: Nakia, Sully, Jethro
Special Someone: Single, and trying to love it.
Likes: Training (archery and the sword), rare/raw meat, spending time with those she cares about, apparently questing, and most, if not all animals. She loves to dance. Languages, she seems to have a knack for them, and loves to learn them.
Dislikes: Hurting her loved one, feeling powerless/weak, sweets, anything "girly."
Unique Powers/Talents: Petrification (when her eyes start glowing, you had better run away) and it was recently found that her snakes have venom in them that petrifies (turn to stone) the bite and the surrounding area - though this is very weak and only lasts from half an hour to an hour, magic (doesn't use it too often - save when potion-making), mind-speak. She can speak the snake language, Greek, Egyptian, Unicorn, Draconis, and Elvish. She is exceptional at archery
Weapon of Choice: Her bow and arrow. Her bow is made of a dark wood with silver snakes engraved into it. Her "secondary" weapon is a sword that she somehow managed to make from an arrow when facing "Medusa" in a different dimension - it is the exact copy of the one that Perseus used to behead Medusa. She is still rather weak in the sword area, though much better than when she started.

Teen Quest: (( An OOC note to readers: I took some artistic freedoms with this, and blended in all of the information I found on Medusa on the web. The Goddess of Righteous Wrath (she was not really the daughter of the two gods mentioned) and Amazon Queen, and even the first fight with Perseus, were all found on resource sites. These were the women that most people believe the Greeks took Medusa from. Indeed, that very Amazon Queen did fight Perseus, as far as I know, which is one of the reasons it was thought that Medusa was taken from her.

As there are conflicting reports as to how Medusa was changed to a Gorgon, as there often are in myths, I chose the one I was most familiar with, and one that would actually help Nyoka feel pity for Medusa. (Some of the others included: Medusa boasted she was more beautiful than Athena, and many agreed with her. In revenge, Athena changed her to a Gorgon. Also, that she willingly coupled with Posiedon in Athena's temple, and angered Athena so much that she punished Medusa.)

Also, this all happened a few weeks before Nyoka became a Teen, so she was still a Kid. . . . ))

Nyoka is seated on a mat on the floor of her bedroom. She is practicing everything she has read about meditation.

Slowly, her breathing starts to slow and she slips away - into Medusa's cave.

She looks around, hoping to see the person she came here to find. It doesn't take long for her to find her.

Medusa is chained to the floor of her cave, hissing at Nyoka angrily.

"Have you come to gloat?" Medusa asks in a low, angry hiss. She has reverted back to Greek. as she is not the Medusa that is sent to her in her dreams. In her dreams, everything is English, but this is the real Medusa. And, she only knows Greek.

Nyoka doesn't know how she understands her, but she does all the same. "No, Medusa. I came here to learn more about you," she says, suddenly shocked that she is speaking Greek as well.

Medusa eyes her suspiciously. "You know all that you need to know. I know you have read the books," she says.

Nyoka shakes her head and moves to sit with Medusa, despite her fear of her. "I want to know everything - your childhood, how you became a Gorgon, your death - all in your own words. I am coming to you with an open mind. I think somewhere inside of you is a pure, gold heart. Prove it to me. Tell me everything that the bias books won't."

Medusa glares at Nyoka for a moment. Then, her face softens. When the usual anger leaves her face, she looks like a very tired woman. For that, in her heart, Nyoka feels pity for her.

"Alright," Medusa says. still using Greek to speak. "I will tell you everything you wish to know. You better be ready for a long sit, Nyoka."

"My childhood was a happy one," Medusa begins. "No one knows this, but I did not grow up with my sisters. I was born from a union between Zeus and Aphrodite, as a goddess. I was the embodiment of feminine logic, and assigned the title Goddess of Righteous Wrath. As I grew, I started to question the role that the patriarchy forced women to play. When I was much older, I took my arguments to Zeus. He grew angry, and was not as merciful to me as he was his b*****d children," here, Medusa's anger surfaces again.

"He cast me out of Olympus and turned me mortal, leaving me with nothing but the same beauty I had as a goddess. Even then I was not returned to my sisters. My punishment, or so my father thought it was, was to live in the forest among self-sufficient women who called themselves Amazons. I soon took to their ways. I became an expert in archery and the spear. So good was I that, once the Queen died, I was appointed heir, and succeeded her throne. Those were happy times," she pauses, her face growing soft, and her still-remaining goddess beauty started to shine through.

"But then," she starts again. "We were attacked. All that time, my father was sitting in Olympus, on his throne, watching me. What he saw did not make him happy. You see, this was supposed to be a punishment. But, in my eyes, it was the greatest gift of all. He thought, because I was a woman, and used to the pampered ways of the goddess, I would not be able to survive down here, with the Amazons. So, he was the first to send Perseus after me. Perseus' army was strong, as he had the favor of the gods. We faught bravely though, us Amazons. Most of us were slaughtered. The ones left alive were forced to scatter to the winds."

Nyoka looks over at Medusa when she hears a slight sniffle. She was crying! So, she did have a heart! Those Amazons were the only family she had. . . . And the gods set about killing them all.

"I think I will take a break for a moment," Medusa says, lying down on the hard cave floor.

Nyoka nods. She feels so badly for her that Nyoka concentrates on the chains binding Medusa's hands and tail to the floor. After a few moments, they disappear. Medusa favors Nyoka with something that might have been a grateful smile, before closing her eyes and falling asleep.

Nyoka then curls up on the floor and drifts into sleep as well.

When Nyoka wakes, she sees that Medusa is already up. She is staring at her thoughtfully.

"You know, Nyoka," Medusa starts. "You were my one big chance to get revenge. But, things turned out much different than I had planned. When I entered the new body, it seems it had plans of its own. And, I became a soul trapped within a body who seemed to already have a soul. You have grown away from what I wanted you to be in such an opposite direction, I don't know how I could ever have imagined that I would win back your body."

Nyoka blinks at Medusa. "How long have you been awake?"

"Hours," Medusa replies. She sighs softly and looks away. "Long enough to think about what I have just told you. I know why you have come to me, seeking my story. You want us to be whole. Maybe I shouldn't fight that. This might be my one chance for redemption . . . I cannot blow this."

Nyoka blinks again, and tilts her head slightly in confusion. "Does that mean . . . once you are through with your story, I won't have to fight you to get you to come together with me?"

Medusa smiles sadly. "That, dear Nyoka, is something that must be decided when all is finished. I still have more thinking to do, and more story to tell. Shall I get on with it, then?"

Nyoka nods and shifts in her seat, trying to get comfortable.

"Where did I leave off? Oh yes," Medusa starts. "Ah, my people being destroyed. Well, not long after that, I stumbled upon a temple. It was that of Athena. It was here that my sisters finally entered the picture. They were preistesses in the temple. They took me in, and made me one of them. Just as everything else, I threw myself into this position."

She pauses, hurt and anger entering her eyes as she continues. "It was here, Nyoka, that my life was torn apart. I caught the eye of Posiedon. How I did, I do not know. Despite his advances, I kept rejecting him. I was unsoiled, and intended to remain that way for the rest of my days. What happens next is too hard for me to describe. It still hurts. I must show you, Nyoka."

She reaches over with her hand, the bronze claws so like Nyoka's silver, though longer and sharper. She rests her hand on Nyoka's temple and closes her eyes. Tears start pouring down her cheeks as she is forced to relive that nightmare again.

Nyoka only catches flashes of what is happening. Medusa is flung to the floor, in Athena's temple. Her robe is torn to shreds and a shadow looms over her. Suddenly, she is screaming. Gods help her, Nyoka can feel the tearing! She cries out, begging Medusa to stop the vision, stop showing her. But, Medusa does not give in. Nyoka has to know, she thinks. This is the key to what I became, how I changed into what I am now.

Nyoka is screaming, hugging her chest and rocking back and forth. The pain just won't stop! The shame and guilt, anger and betrayal wash over her in waves. Before the vision ends, she is given a long look at Medusa. She is on the marble floor naked, bleeding, with her knees to her chest and her arms around her knees. Her beautiful, raven hair is a mess of tangles.

When the vision fades, Nyoka has her face in her hands and she is sobbing. She feels as though she herself has been raped, but the physical pain is fading. The emotional might always be there. . . .

She looks up when she feels warm arms wrap around her. She looks at Medusa, shocked that she would be comforting her so. She hugs Medusa back. "I am so sorry, Medusa . . . I did not know how bad that could be. . . ."

Medusa only runs her fingers through her hair. "It's alright. I wish you didn't have to know. . . ."

They sit like this for a long while. Finally, Nyoka's tears dry and she pulls away from Medusa. "Please, go on. Tell me what happens next."

Medusa nods and takes a deep breath. "It was in much the same state you saw me last that Athena found me. She did not take kindly to my 'fornicating' in her temple. My sisters and I tried to explain, but Posiedon denied that he raped me. Athena believed him, and punished my sisters and I for 'lying' to her. She turned us all into monsters . . . into Gorgons. But she decided to punish me further. Unlike my sisters, who's faces were turned into hideous effigies of the beauty that they once held, I was punished further. I kept my beautiful face, a cruel joke to my hideous body. I could still seduce men, but once they saw me, I could never hold them. They would turn to stone."

Nyoka watches as Medusa fights back her anger. "I started to hate Athena, more than anything else. I started plotting ways to get even with her. But, she must have caught wind of it, because I never got the chance to act on my plans." Medusa shakes her head. "I believe I will stop for a while again. What is coming is my death, and I don't think, after reliving my rape, I can take watching my death again."

Nyoka nods. Though she appears young, she can fully understand what Medusa is talking about.

It is hours before Medusa resumes her story telling again.

"Athena decided to try and kill my sisters and I. She was not going to stand for a whore trying to best her," Medusa continues, looking weary again. Nyoka can only guess that she is getting tired of being angry all the time. "That was when Perseus was tapped again. Though Athena wanted all of us dead, I was the only one of the three of us that was cursed with mortality. I guess I should be happy it all ended before I started to look like a chrone . . ." she says, smiling at her vanity. "So, one day, while my sisters were deep in the forests surrounding these caves, Perseus snuck past them, aided by Athena and some of the other gods. I did not know he was there until he got into my cave. You see, I was sleeping when he crept into my cave."

Medusa pauses again, trying to compose herself. "Don't worry, Nyoka. I see the cut on your throat, I will not show you. You must have already seen it before you came. I must admit I might have let that memory slip, subconsciously, knowing it would push you into coming here."

Nyoka looks at Medusa curiously. "Does that mean that you have come to a decision?"

Medusa nods. "These past hours, days, were not spent idly, Nyoka," she says as she picks up her bow.

Nyoka stares at Medusa, her eyes holding nothing but love and understanding. She knows should Medusa attack her, she doesn't stand a chance. The only protection she has with her is the coat Kia gave her before she started this whole thing. She did not think that she would really need anything else.

Medusa sighs after studying those green eyes, eyes which are so like her own. She sets her bow aside again.

As Nyoka watches her, Medusa slowly transforms before her eyes. She is not just the Gorgon anymore - she is the radiant goddess and the proud Amazon queen.

Nyoka follows her instincts now, as she has no idea where to go from here. She slowly moves over to Medusa with her arms open.

Medusa nods and falls into them. As she cries, her skin begins to glow faintly.

Nyoka closes her eyes when her own skin starts to glow, holding the woman she has come to understand.

As they slowly begin to glow brighter and become more abstract in appearance, both Nyoka and Medusa feel an almost unbearable warmth.

The glow fades after a few moments, and Nyoka is left sitting alone. She has taken on many of Medusa's characteristics. She can feel two new snakes in her raven hair. She does not know it, but her face has taken on a more evil appearance, and she has taken on some of Medusa's goddess beauty. Her muscles are more defined, and she looks more the part of the Amazon queen. Lastly, her silver claws are a little longer, and much sharper.

As the emotional and physical pains of all of Medusa's memories start to flood her body, the cave around Nyoka's form starts to fade.

It isn't long before Nyoka is back in her room, holding her stomach, trying to stop the nauseous feeling coming over her. She feels weak and strong, happy and sad, and a million other conflicting emotions, all at the same time.

She closes her eyes and breathes deeply. Though she feels that she needs a hug more than ever now, she does not go up and see her mum. Instead, Nyoka slowly slithers to her bed and climbs onto it. She clutches Arkady, Lavender, and Lenny to her chest and drifts off into a deep, peaceful, thankfully dreamless, sleep.

Youth Quest: Nyoka sits on her bed, staring at the wall. Ernia is contenting herself by playing on the floor.

She looks at the red gem on the table next to her bed. She doesn't know why the gem sparked a memory. All she knows is that her scales started to drop off at a quicker rate.

She frowns and goes over the memory in her head while she stands and moves over to her mirror.

Nyoka looks at her reflection, not really seeing it though. Her mind is too full of the memory.

Medusa ran through the woods, her bow held tight in one hand while the strap of her quiver was secure across her chest.

She lived for this. She was queen, true, but she loved to hunt among the rest of her sisters. The sound of an arrow slicing the air was like music to her ears.

She moved soundlessly, her sandals made no noise as she darted around the trees.

Something stopped Medusa in her tracks. She wasn't sure what it was that caused her to react in such a way.

Then, she heard it. The sound of a voice, singing a sad ballad.

Medusa frowned and sped off in the direction of the voice.

It wasn't long before she reached the source. Sitting, naked, on the back of the river, was a woman. She was wringing out her damp hair and looking down sadly at her reflection in the river.

Normally, Medusa would have shot her on sight. These were
her woods. But, the woman's voice struck a cord in her heart.

"Why are you so sad?" Medusa asked.

The woman jumped to her feet and spun around to face her. She opened her mouth to reply. . . .

This is where the memory dissloves for Nyoka.

She frowns and watches as four more scales fall to the floor.

"Alright, princess," Nyoka says, scooping up Ernia. "You're coming with me. I have someone I need to speak with, and you have better bloody well be nice to him."

Ernia's eyes narrow when Nyoka reveals this person to be a "him." She does nothing, though. She doesn't want her 'mau,' to be angry with her again.

Nyoka sets Ernia down long enough to fit Ernia's baby sling on her before putting Ernia in it.

She Disapparates ti the Emeral Woods. Ernia clicks her beack happily. She loves when her maum uses her magic!

"Uleme, I need to speak with you," Nyoka hisses in Greek.

~*~*~***~*~*~

Usually when she calls for him in Greek, he appears right away. This time, Uleme does not come. Nyoka frowns and begins searching the woods.

She finds Uleme some time later. She is about to call to him when she sees someone very familiar with him.

Ernia clicks her beak in distaste at the sight of Uleme and Lucius.

Nyoka keeps to the shadows, using some of the magic she has looked up to help her blend better.

Uleme looks in the shadows of the trees in front of him. He hides a smile when he sees a flash of white. "She is here," he says.

Lucius looks behind him. Though his sight is good, he cannot see Nyoka. "Are you sure?" he asks Uleme when he turns back to him.

Uleme nods.

"She's seen me, hasn't shee?" Lucius asks.

"Lady Nyoka would not be hiding had she not," Uleme replies. He strings his bow and takes out an arrow. He aims carefully before shooting it.

Nyoka moves swiftly out of the path of the arrow, and Ernia clicks her beack indignantly.

She sighs and pulls the hood of her cloak down from her head before rubbing Ernia's back soothingly. She slithers out of the shadows of the trees, looking only at Lucius. "I thought I was the only one who knew you were here, Uleme."

Uleme offers Nyoka a smile and leans forward to rest his hand on her shoulder. "I thought Py'via would have told you she knew me. Don't you speak to her when you are training her?" No, Py'via never told Uleme that Nyoka was training her. But, it wasn't hard for him to figure out. Not only did the stars tell him so, but he would recognize that arrow-work anywhere.

"We don't speak much when training," Nyoka admits, finally looking up at Uleme.

"Such a pity," is all he says on the matter. "But, I sought Lucius out."

Nyoka frowns. "Why?"

Uleme looks over at Lucius, who is determinedly looking in the forest. "I cannot keep an eye on you all of the time, Lady Nyoka."

Nyoka cringes. It is the first time that Uleme has addressed her as such. "I am not lady, Ule-"

"Would you prefer Queen Nyoka?" Uleme interrupts.

Something in Nyoka stirs. She feels that that title is more fitting, somehow. But, she shakes her head, to clear it of such nonsense.

Uleme's satisfaction flickers for the briefest of moments in his eyes. She didn't notice, but the moments before she shook her head, she looked like royalty. Something in her posture shifted. . . .

"No, I guess I'll have to stomach 'Lady,'" Nyoka manages a smile. "But, we've changed the subject. I don't need a babysitter."

Uleme laughs, and Nyoka looks surprised by it. "You don't, but I don't want to see anything happen to you."

"I can handle myself," Nyoka insists.

"You don't need to prove anything to us," Lucius finally speaks. "We know you can take care of yourself. You've proven it with the many times you have run off."

"Don't start in on me, Lucius," Nyoka warns.

"Yes, I know," Lucius keeps the irritation out of his voice. "Your friends are in trouble. Your friends are always in trouble. Tell me . . . what happened this time?"

"Aadil was on trial," Nyoka says, the muscle in her jaw quivering.

"That boy who stabbed his guardian?" Lucius asks. "You're friends with him? I'll explain to your mum when you wake up with a knife in your back."

"Hold your tongue, Lucius," Nyoka hisses through clenched teeth.

"Enough," Uleme says. "Lucius, young Aadil is not a threat to Lady Nyoka. Let's focus on why you are here."

"Yes. Tell me why you called Lucius here? Over everyone you had to chose from, why him?" Nyoka asks, not bothering to keep the irritation from her voice.

"Lucius here," Uleme starts, glancing at Lucius before his gray eyes meet Nyoka's again. "Knows more about your past than you give him credit for."

"How could he possibly?" Nyoka asks. "Not everything is in the books."

"Lucius . . .?" Uleme turns his emotionless face to Lucius.

Lucius frowns deeply and looks away, up at the setting sun. "I have a past life as well. I was reborn, like all of your friends, and you, Nyoka."

If Nyoka is surprised to hear this, she does not show it. She watches Lucius carefully.

"I was one of the men Perseus took with him to attack the Amazons," Lucius continues. "You, Medusa I mean, killed me herself. She ran me through with her spear."

Nyoka nods. "At least I did something right."

"Lady Nyoka," Uleme says in a pacifying tone.

Nyoka frowns and looks back into the trees, rocking Ernia a little.

"Perseus and I watched you and your people," Lucius continues, not bothering to correct himself this time. "We watched you for months. In that time, I saw you train the other women, mend wounds . . . I even saw you play midwife to one of the Amazons. Perseus, believe it or not, became infatuated with you. The only reason he attacked your people was because of Zeus. He did not want to anger him."

"Now I know you are lying," Nyoka laughs. "That b*****d killed me!"

Lucius shrugs. "I cannot explain it. I was dead long before that happened. But, the only reason you survived that seige was because of him."

"I don't believe you," Nyoka says, still laughing. "This is madness! You expect me to believe all of this? Me killing you, now that I can believe. But Perseus? I don't think so."

"Believe what you want," Lucius says, struggling to keep his voice mild. If he grew angry, it would anger Nyoka further. "But, what I speak is the truth. There is more, but I can see you still need time . . . you need to think about all I have just said."

"You want to know what I think about all of this?" Nyoka says. She points her finger at Lucius. "It is complete BOLLOCKS! Mudusa never loved, or was loved. She would have told me! I would remember something like that! Her memories are mine now - whether I like it or not. You've finally gone nutters if you believed I would even consider this truth!"

"Lady Nyoka - "

"Don't," Nyoka says, rounding on Uleme. "Don't call me that. Tell me you don't believe this, Uleme. You're sensible."

"My father was the one that crowned you," Uleme says softly. "I heard stories, ever since I was young, about you. You were respected by the centaurs around your tribe. What Lucius says fits with the stories I was told."

Nyoka shakes her head. "You're both mad . . ." she stares at them a few moments. She puts her arms around Ernia and then turns to go back to the manor.

"Give her time," says Uleme, watching Nyoka fade into the shadows. "She'll remember."

"Either that, or I will wake with an arrow in my chest. . . ." Lucius says.

~*~*~***~*~*~

"Why do you look so sad?" Medusa asks.

The woman jumps up from her seat and spins around, her damp golden hair wipping around her. She opens her mouth to reply. "Please, don't shoot me." she begs softly, her large blue eyes looking at Medusa's arrows in panic.

Against her better judgement, Medusa puts her bow away. She walks cautiously over to the woman. "Do not worry. I will not shoot you," she says soothingly. "I only came to see who could be singing such a sad song."

The woman watches Medusa carefully, her eyes still wide with fear.

"What is your name?" Medusa asks softly.

"Adena," the woman whispers.

"Adena," Medusa smiles. "Do not be scared. I mean you no harm. Where are your clothes? You will catch a chill."

Adena looks at Medusa as though she is crazy, and Medusa has to chuckle.

She draws herself up and covers her bare breasts. "My clothes are there," she points.

Medusa nods and picks up the light blue toga. She hands it to Adena. "You know I cannot let you leave here. You have seen me, you could tell our enemies about me."

"I don't even know who you are," Adena says, snatching the toga and hurriedly putting it on.

"You know, you just do not believe it," Medusa says, her voice amused.

"Queen Medusa is a legend," Adena scoffs.

"You see her before you," Medusa raises her eyebrow. "I am queen of the Amazons, and you cannot leave. The question is: will you come with me willingly, or will I have to throw you over my shoulder and drag you to my kingdom?"

Adena's wide eyes grow wider. "Savage," she whimpers.

Medusa inclines her head. "But this savage is free." She steps back, and gestures with her arm, telling Adena to move in front of her.

Adena has no choice. She knows she should be dead. She doesn't know what saved her, but she thanks the gods. She walks in front of Medusa.

Nyoka stirs in her bed, throwing the silk sheets off of her. Her brow furrows in her deep sleep and her wings flutter anxiously.

Medusa looks over Adena's shoulder. There is pride in her heart. "You have learned well in such a short time, Adena," she whispers.

Adena jumps and drops the spear she is making. "Your majesty, I did no know you were there. . . ."

Medusa chuckles and stands straight again. "I am sorry for frightening you."

"You've ruined my surprise for you," Adena says, a little irritated.

"That is for me?" Medusa inquires, taking another look at the spear. It really is a fine one - made from the best wood. The steel tip is longer than most, and decorated with the same key design on her circlet.

"Yes, my lady," Adena says, lowering her eyes. "I am sorry, it is not as rich as it should be."

"Adena," Medusa says gently, taking one of Adena's hands in hers after she sits next to her. "It is the best that I have seen."

Adena blushes a little. "It is a token of my thanks. . . ."

"I deserve no thanks," Medusa says.

"You have taken me in when no one wanted me, your majesty," Adena object. "You let me live in your home, and you taught me the ways of the Amazon. I am forever in debt to you."

To Medusa's great suprise, Adena leans forward and kisses her softly on the lips.

Medusa blinks, shocked, at Adena. Adena blushes and runs from the room.

Nyoka's eyes snap open and she lies still in the bed. She touches her lips with her fingertips, not blinking.

She pushes herself up slowly, looking around her dark room with unseeing eyes. Her mind is racing with the memory of the dream, and the memories being unlocked. . . .

"Uleme!" Nyoka calls, looking about the dark of Emeral Forest.

She hears him, for the first time, before she sees him. His hoove-beats are fast on the forest floor. Nyoka's brow furrows and she turns in the direction of Uleme.

He slows before he reaches her, and shakes his head. "The way you were yelling, Lady Nyoka," he says, lifting an eyebrow. "I feared the worst."

"Sorry," she mumbles. "I didn't mean to startle you. . . ."

"Walk with me. You look paler than usual," Uleme says, a brief flash of concern in his eyes.

Nyoka nods and follows him.

After a long silence, Uleme speaks. "You came to see me for something."

She nods again. "Yes. I had a dream. . . . it unlocked a few of my memories."

Uleme nods. "Given recent events," he starts.

"Don't." she interrupts, her voice firm. She has locked all of her memories of the night with Rae deep in a part of her brain. She doesn't really remember as a result. Defense mechanism.

"I knew these would be the first that you remembered," he finishes. "Do you wish to talk about them?"

Nyoka shakes her head, though it is not her answer. "I never thought she would have a lover. . . ."

Uleme nods again. "She might have sworn off men, but she was still a woman. She wanted children, she wanted to build a life with Adena."

"She couldn't have children with Adena," Nyoka says, a little sourly.

"No, not in that time," Uleme agrees. "But, she would have lain with a man, then killed him."

Nyoka shudders and pulls her cloak tighter around her.

"It was their way, Lady Nyoka," Uleme says. "They knew the correct time to lie with a man, the best time, to get pregnant. She would have raised the child with Adena. Unless it were a male."

"Would she have killed him too?" Nyoka's face twists with distaste.

"No, she would have left him in a near-by village," Uleme smiles. "Medusa was not entirely like the others."

"There's a gap. I am not remembering something. . . ." Nyoka muses. She looks up at Uleme.

He shakes his head. "Do not ask that of me. . . ."

"I need to know," Nyoka says. She sighs. "I won't push you. It's just. . . . the battle. I cannot remember it. Medusa was so sad after it. I know it is for her sisters, but . . . this one is deeper. I know this sadness, I have felt it in this life. At Aadil's. . . ."

She looks up at Uleme. "He killed her. That's why I killed him. You never told me!"

"Be calm, Lady Nyoka," Uleme says, his brows furrowed.

"You should have told me. I appologized to him!"

"You cannot hold his past crimes against him," Uleme tries to soothe.

"The hell I can't!" Anger, her one big weakness. Nyoka isn't thinking straight, and she turns to go back to the manor.

Uleme bars her way. "Don't."

"Move, Uleme," Nyoka says.

"You are not attacking him, Lady Nyoka. I won't allow it."

Nyoka scowls and tries to move around him, but can't. She ducks and slithers under his body.

To her great suprise, Uleme grabs her cloak and pulls her back. He lifts her into the air like she is nothing more than a rag doll and places her on his back. He gallops off.

"Let me down, Uleme!" Nyoka cries, clinging to his waist.

"Not until you are thinking clearer," he replies.

Nyoka is finally allowed to return to the manor when the sun rises. Hours of being on a galloping centaur's back has left her with a sore bum, and raw nerves.

She slithers into the house and drops her bow and quiver on the floor by the door. Faene swoops in quietly and takes the weapons to put them in their rightful place. He says nothing to Nyoka, noting the irritation in her eyes.

She is looking for a fight, and Faene does not want to be the one that catches it.

Lucius walks into the room, his nose in a book. He's too preoccupied with the words to notice Nyoka.

But she sees him. True to her word though, she does nothing. She promised Uleme she would give herself time to digest everything.

Lucius glances up from the book when he hears the rustle of leathery wings. He is about to say something. . . . then he sees the look in her eyes. He knows that look too well. "You remembered," he says. It's not a question, it is a statement. He knows she remembered. Why else would she look that way?

"Don't talk to me right now, Lucius," Nyoka says, fighting to keep her voice low and even. She's fighting so hard, the muscle in her jaw is trembling.

Lucius blinks once at Nyoka, noting the muscle-twitch. He takes a closer look at Nyoka, and is not too suprised by what he sees. She looks like a woman at the end of a quickly-fraying rope. So, he simply nods and sits on the couch, looking at the book again.

~*~*~***~*~*~

Nyoka slithers into the forest. As always, her bow is in hand.

This time, she has her sword with her. Because of recent events with her mum, she knows there is at least one vampire in the forest.

She also knows the sword will do nothing to protect her. It just makes her feel better.

The familiar sound of hooves has her smiling. Only breifly, though. For as Nyoka is about to turn around, she is grabbed up by the neck of her cloak, and thrown onto Uleme's back unceremoniously.

"What are you doing out here?" Uleme asks, galloping deeper into the forest.

"Uleme, I was in the outer area of the forest," Nyoka says, putting her arms around his waist so she doesn't fall off of his back. "There's no danger-"

"She can go anywhere," Uleme says, his voice actually snappish.

Nyoka blinks. "Uleme-"

"Quite," he hisses.

Her head is spinning now. Uleme never shows any emotions. When he has in the past, it has never been like this. He's never been angry with her, not that she knows.

She's quiet until Uleme stops. He turns slightly, puts an arm under hers and around her back, pulls her off of his back, and then sort of . . . drops her.

She lands on her bum. In one move, she pulls her cloak off and pulls out her sword. She points it at Uleme, her eyes narrowed.

"Put that away," Uleme says, not looking at all afraid of her.

"What the hell is your problem, Uleme?" Nyoka asks, slowly lowering her sword.

"You!" Uleme yells, looking at her with blazing gray eyes. "You need to wake up, Lady Nyoka. It's time you remember everything. Because, if you don't, you'll continue hurting your sister."

"What are you on about?" Nyoka asks, sheathing her sword.

"Her child," Uleme says, the anger leaving his eyes. "I know how you have been acting. If you keep going on like this, I have seen that you will hurt your sister, and her husband, deeply. You skirting away from the issue of you becoming an Aunt, and them wanting you to be a part of their child's life. And you don't even know why, do you? It is the fact that you aren't remembering something vital, the very reason Medusa wanted to be reborn so badly, that you are . . . freaking out over the thought of being in contact with your family's children!"

Nyoka blinks, and then backs away from Uleme. He broke a rule of his, without her even asking, and he is showing emotions, moreso than ever before. She's a bit unnerved, to say the least. "And what am I not remembering? What is my mind blocking from me that is making me act like this?"

Uleme shakes his head. "I've said too much. But, you and I are going to Greece. Tonight. You will find out on your own. I am taking you to the very cave Medusa and her sisters lived in, and I am taking you back to where your Amazon tribe lived. We are resolving this matter. I am not going to let your inability to deal with this ruin relationships."

Nyoka shakes her head. "I can't go to Greece!" she says, her eyes looking at the surrounding trees for a clear exit. She doesn't want to Disapparate, as Uleme will just follow her to the house, and she knows how much his secrecy means to him. "I have to take care of Ernia. And I can't just up and leave. I don't know how long I will be gone, I can't just leave my mum or Aadil without telling them!"

"You'll leave them a note. You have half an hour before I go and collect you. Get your things ready," Uleme says. "I'll meet you back here."

Nyoka narrows her eyes at Uleme. When he says nothing else, she Disapparates home.

Nyoka slithers quietly from the house. She has spoken with her mum, Mina, and Talica. Ernia will be taken care of, but she has a severe bite on her arm from where Ernia got angry. That beak is sharp. . . .

She cradles her arm in her hand, stopping and staring at the scabbed over wound. Ernia didn't swallow any blood, and Nyoka thanks the gods for that. But, it hurt her. More than physically.

This just sucked. She doesn't want to leave for Greece! She doesn't want to leave Ernia in the care of other people. She doesn't want to leave her sisters behind.

And she doesn't want to leave Aadil. If he can't see it, she can. He probably needs her just as much as she needs him. When she doesn't see him, she gets moody. And, he becomes a bit uncontrolable.

And, dammit, she doesn't see him as much as she would like anyway! This trip to Greece will only keep her away from him longer. If only she could have seen him. . . .

She is brought from her thoughts by the sound of a screeching cat. Her head snaps up and she actually growls. She is about to go and beat the crap out of whoever hurt the cat, when a strong arm stops her.

"I don't tolerate that, Uleme," Nyoka says, knowing who it is.

"Leave it," Uleme replies, his voice back to the same monotonous tone as always. "It will only prolong things. You won't want to leave."

"And why? Who hurt that cat, Uleme?" Nyoka asks.

"No one you know, Lady Nyoka," Uleme says, smiling a little to add to the lie.

Then, he holds out his hand to her. Nyoka sighs. She takes his hand reluctantly, moving her heavy pack a little. He pulls her onto his back. "Get us there," he instructs.

Nyoka nods and closes her eyes. She bites her lip as her mind goes over those she is leaving behind. Taking a deep breath, and going over the instructions that her mum gave her, both she and Uleme disappear.

Nyoka leans against a rock, letting her knees buckle under her. She is athletic, yes, and in shape, no doubt, but even the best athlete can only take so much climbing.

"How much further?" Nyoka asks. They have been in Greece for close to a week, and Nyoka has opted to use this language at all times. At least until they are safely back at Emerald Haven.

And, after being chased through a city, she has also adopted taking her potion on schedule. She's very grateful she had the forsight to pack quiet a bit of it.

Uleme turns around and looks at Nyoka. A smile teases the corner of his lips. "Can the great warrior, Lady Nyoka, be tired?"

"Just answer the question, Uleme," Nyoka says, irritably, as she brushes the bangs away from her sweaty brow. Her long hair suddenly feels heavier than her pack to her. Slinging the pack off of her back, she opens it and starts her search for the hair pin her sister gave her, and another hair band.

"We've made good progress," Uleme starts, looking upwards. "We'll reach our destination by nightfall. That is, if you get up now and get moving again."

Nyoka puts the hair pin in her mouth and goes about using her fingers to pull her hair into her usual high pony tail. "'He' a' 'e 'oin'?" she asks, her words muffled as she keeps the pin in her mouth.

Uleme chuckles. The second day in Greece brightened his spirits. He seems more at home in this land, and much more at ease. "I'm surprised you don't recognize this place, Lady Nyoka."

Nyoka pins her hair up and then starts to braid the long pony tail. "Why would I recognize this place?"

"Look closer," Uleme responds.

Nyoka makes quick work of the braid, making it look messier than she would have had she taken her time. She looks closer, narrowing her eyes against the setting sun.

When she sees the trees, a memory fires in her brain. She's braiding feathers in her lover's hair. Then, she leans over and kisses her neck.

"They're not still around, are they?" Nyoka asks, biting her lip.

"There's only one way to find out," Uleme grins and starts to lead her into the forest.

Unbeknownst to both of them, something is following them in the shadows. Something that came with them from Emerald Forest. . . .

By nightfall, Nyoka's legs feels as though they are cooked noodles. She practically falls to the ground, and throws her pack from her back. She just wants to lie here for days, weeks even. The ground wasn't so bad. Once you got past the stone under the grass, and the slight irritation of the weeds. And the bugs. The bugs with their tiny legs crawling all over her right now.

Uleme shakes his head and looks into the trees. "That city would be a better place to rest."

Nyoka is too tired to register what Uleme said. And when she does, she doesn't get a chance to react. It is just then that the 'person' following them decides to reveal themselves.

"Is Lady Nyoka dying?" comes a hiss not far from Nyoka's ear.

Had she not been so exhausted, Nyoka might have jumped. Instead, she settles for a groan. "Bane, what are you doing here?" She hisses.

"You leave me behind too often," Bane replies, finally coming out of the shadows. When he enters Nyoka's field of vision, her eyes widen and she pushes herself up. "I decided to follow you this time. I might be of some use."

After getting over the change in him, Nyoka shakes her head. "Bugger off," she says, so irritated that she is making her way to the cave.

"See? You want to get away from me so badly, that you are going straight to where that horse whants you to go."

"He's a centaur," Nyoka hisses, a grumble in her tone.

"Stop the hissing, and come on," Uleme says, leading them toward the cave.

Bane melts intothe shadows and follows silently.

Not too far into the forest, Nyoka and Uleme both stop.

It doesn't take long before both she and Uleme have their bows strung again and arrows notched into them.

Spear heads emerge from the trees before the women holding them do.

"Who dares enter our forest?" a harsh woman's voice asks.

Nyoka points her arrow in the direction of the voice. A proud woman with darkly-tanned skin and wild brown curls walks through the parting in the crowd of women circling Nyoka and Uleme. "You dare bring a man into our fore-" the woman's voice cuts off abruptly as she looks at Nyoka. Her brown eyes narrow and study Nyoka.

Nyoka's arrow does not falter from the woman's chest as she stands just as proud as the other.

The woman's eyes fall on the circlet and her eyebrows raise. "Lower your weapons. All of you!" she says, looking at the women around her.

The women do as they are told, but they don't seem happy about it. Their eyes hold a mixture of anger and confusion.

"Forgive me, Queen Medusa," the woman says, bending to one knee as she bows her head. "I did not know that it was you."

Nyoka shifts uncomfortably on her feet, biting her lip and looking at Uleme. She lowers her bow as Uleme does, and watches in awe as the other women bow to her too.

"Please, stand up," Nyoka says, sweating now, despite the cold, from discomfort and embarassment. "There is no need for this, really."

"You have come back, just as the legends said," The woman with the curly brown hair says as she stands again. "We knew you would come back for your crown. I was only elected to fill in, as were my sisters before me, until that day."

"I'm not here for that, really," Nyoka says, really chewing on her lip now.

"Then, what have you returned for, Queen Medusa?" the woman says.

"Don't call me that!" Nyoka says, snapping a little. "I am not your queen, and my name is not Medusa. My name is Nyoka. Nyoka Slytherin-Natenhar."

"And I am Anemone," she replies, her brow furrowing. Apparently, she does not understand.

"It is nice to meet you, Queen Anemone," Nyoka says.

"I am no queen, Queen . . . Nyoka," Anemone says.

"Nyoka," she corrects. "I am here for answers. Can I count on you and your sisters for help?"

Anemone bows her head. "Yes, my queen. Your sisters are at your command. Please, follow us. We will settle you into the palace."

Uleme places a hand on Nyoka's shoulder just as she is about to protest the title. "Let them have this, Lady Nyoka. They have waited for you for thousands of years. Indulge them."

"They have the wrong idea about me, Uleme," Nyoka says, sadly. "I could never be their queen. I am not that woman anymore."

"You might be," Uleme says, gently. "You might suprise yourself. Come, let us settle in."

(( For my sanity, and the off chance that anyone is actually reading this, unless otherwise told, Nyoka and everyone else is speaking Greek. The italics is, obviously, the snake language. xd ; ))

"You're a mess, my queen," Anemone says as they enter the palace.

Indeed, it is a palace. For primitive women, Nyoka is rather suprised by the palace, and indeed the other buildings, in what could only be called a small city. The palace seems to have been carved, seamlessly, from one great slab of gleaming white marble. A key design, carved from gold, is trimming the walks right below the high ceiling of the entrance hall.

"Queen Nyoka, you must remember this place," Anemone says, pulling Nyoka from her study of the gold key design. "This is the same palace that you had erected. The army did not burn it to the ground, as they did everything else."

Nyoka shakes her head as memories come swimming into it. She almost falls, as the memories are hurling at her at such a dizzying speed. She can't even grasp them. Not one of them.

Anemone is by her side, holding her up, as Uleme is kneeling on her other side, helping Anemone.

"Mother?" a soft voice is heard.

"Calliope, quick," Anemone calls. "Bring a cloth."

"I'm fine," Nyoka says, shaking her head again and pulling away from the two holding her up. "I think I need to rest, that's all."

"My daughter will show you to your room. You will have time to bathe, change, and rest before the feast," Anemone says, smiling for the first time.

Nyoka blinks. "Feast?" she asks.

"Yes. The feast, In honor of you," Anemone explains. "Not a large one, you have only just returned to us. The heads of our tribe will want to meet you. The second feast will be held two days later."

"Feast?" Nyoka repeats, still not over it.

"Mother, please," Calliope says, entering Nyoka's feild of vision. The sight of her stirs a familiar memory, one Nyoka has already seen. Of Medusa's lover. Indeed, Callope seems to be the picture of the woman that Medusa so loved; as though the gods wanted to torture Nyoka. "You are putting too much on her. Let me take her to her room, where she can think things over. I will be sure that she is properly dressed."

Anemone nods. Callope steps forward and takes Nyoka's hand.

Nyoka sinks into the oversized tub. She doesn't care for the flowery scent of the salts put in the water, and she is becoming dizzy because of it, but the steam from the water is very relaxing. So relaxing, in fact, Nyoka doesn't even grumble about the smell.

She opens her eyes when her ears pick up on bare feet hitting the marble floor. As she is in unfamiliar territory, she reaches for her sword, which she has placed next to the tub.

Calliope smiles sweetly at her, and Nyoka relaxes once again. On a silver tray, Calliope is carrying an emerald-encrusted silver goblet.

"I thought some wine might help calm your nerves," she explains in the same soft, melodic voice. "I know my sisters are piling much on you in such a short amount of time, your majesty."

Nyoka cringes inwardly. She has a feeling she won't get used to this. It might be like how she will never get used to Shina calling her 'Oka, though much more unsettling. "Thank you, Calliope," she says, taking the wine and sipping it. It is stronger, and sweeter, than any she has had before.

"You're procrastinating, majesty," Calliope points out, the smile still on her lips. "Dry off anf I will get you ready for the feast."

"I really don't want to go," Nyoka says, sinking her head into the water.

When she finally comes up for air, Calliope is holding a towel ready for Nyoka.

Nyoka sighs and gets out of the tub.

"I've laid out our best white furs for you," Calliope says, waiting patiently as Nyoka dries herself off. "And our best sandals. I hope they fit."

Nyoka frowns. "Let's get this over with."

Journal Entry (November 15, 2004): The feast was a very long one. VERY long.

I met all of the important people of the tribe. The two elders I met were the only ones that had only one breast. It seems they have stopped this ritual, which calms me a bit. I joke about it, but I would never cut off any part of my anatomy, mo matter how bothersome.

Anyway, the women. The two elders were quiet. There is Damaris, whom Anemone said was the "future-gazer." Apparently, she saw my re-birth months ago. The other elder is Erimentha, she is a sort of record-keeper. I shall have to talk to her sometime soon, get her to let me look at her records.

There are also two sorceresses, twin sisters. One is named Fauna, her specialty is fertility, and her sister is named Galena. She specializes in healing. Both were very talkative, trying to pry all information from me.

Kalonice and Nerina are in charge of most of the food. Kalonice oversees the crops, and Nerina purifies the water. They were pleasant enough.

But, the woman I am interested in is Iphigenia. She commands and trains all of the troops. Of course, the Queen is the highest ranking office in the Amazon army, but Iphigenia spends the most time with their soldiers. She and I are built alike, as though we have the same mind about training. I'm sure she trains more than I do.

I need some rest. This night has been the most draining I have encountered, really. I am getting ready to pass out.

-Nyoka Slytherin-Natenhar.

~*~*~***~*~*~

Calliope enters the chambers with a tray in hand. She has appointed herself to Nyoka. She is curious about this girl. She is more of a warrior than a royal. Unlike what she has learned of Medusa, this girl, whom she has no doubt is Medusa, doesn't like the idea of being a queen.

She looks over at the bed, at the sleeping form of Nyoka. Sighing and setting the tray down, Calliope walks silently over to Nyoka.

She's about to wake her when she sees the strange metal object on the pillow next to her. It looks like a weapon, but, the gem-like thing in the middle is glowing a little.

"Your highness," Calliope says, touching her shoulder, ignoring the "weapon" for now. "I've brought your breakfast. It is time to rise."

Nyoka stirs, and then sits up abruptly. She looks around, not remembering where she is. Then, her eyes fall on Calliope. "Adena?" she asks, thinking this a dream.

Calliope blinks and takes a step back. Then, something flickers in her eyes, and she shakes her head sadly. "Queen Nyoka, I am not Adena. She has long been dead, but you know that."

Nyoka shakes her head, looking down at the bed. Her eyes fall on Bane, and she frowns. "Go away, Bane. I'll take care of you later," she hisses.

Bane does as he is told, hovering next to her for a bit before melting into the shadows again.

"I'm sorry," Nyoka smiles to Calliope, feigning happiness. "I thought I was dreaming." She stretches a little before standing. She looks around for her pack, so she can grab some of her clothes, but doesn't see it.

"Your clothes were taken away to be washed. I took the liberty of bringing you some clothes," Calliope says, indicating the emerald top and loin-cloth-type skirt laid on the lounger. "These are more appropriate to your status, your highness."

Nyoka hisses under her breath and walks over to the clothing. This is more Kia's type of thing as well. The gold belt with the emeralds set in it and the rich fabric. Even the sandals have emerals in them, with a gold leaf design.

Feeling ever more homesick at the thought of another of her friends, Nyoka dresses quickly and walks over to Calliope. She looks at the tray and sees berries, cheese and wine. She didn't eat much at the feast last night, and she is starving.

"Would you like to be shown around today?" Calliope asks, standing next to the seated Nyoka. "I can take you to the training area, and you can see the army in action."

"Why do we need an army? Are we being threatened?" Nyoka asks, picking up the goblet full of wine.

"It never hurts to be prepared," Calliope says, with a small smile on her lips.

Nyoka nods. "When I am done, I would like very much to see the training. Perhaps I can join them," she says the last more to herself.

"Very well. I will send word of your visit to Lady Iphigenia," Calliope bows and leaves the room.

Once Calliope is gone, Bane comes out of the shadows again. "I can't understand a word you say in this strange place. Or what anyone else says either," he hisses.

"Perhaps you should learn Greek, then?" Nyoka asks, picking at her food again.

"Are you not hungry? At this rate, you will waste away, and look like a vine," Bane says, circling her head as usual.

"Oh, shut up," Nyoka hisses, pushing her plate away. "Stop moving and I will clean you before I go."

Bane stops in front of Nyoka. "Can I come with you?"

"I wouldn't be able to stop you anyway," Nyoka says, shaking her head as she takes the cloth napkin and starts to polish Bane.

Calliope smiles as Nyoka walks next to her. They have just left the training arena, and Nyoka seems much happier. Now that she has had a long training run.

Bane is hovering above Nyoka's shoulder. She is in such good spirits that she doesn't even shoo the Fandangle away.

"Where would you like to go now, majesty?" Calliope asks as they head for the crowded marketplace.

Nyoka bites her lip at the bows. Word seems to travel fast. "I was hoping to persuade Erimentha into letting me look over her records."

"Then, I shall take you there," Calliope says. "I am afraid that I will have to leave you for a bit, though. I have things I need to attend to back at the palace."

"I think I can handle it," Nyoka smiles at Calliope as she leads the way.

Bane hovers around the tiny room, his core blinking every once in a while. Nyoka is bent over a table with piles of scrolls and leather-bound books. She moves the candle closer to some of the parchment, her brow furrowed as she reads.

"Careful, or you might burn all of those papers," Bane says, hovering over Nyoka again.

"I am being careful," Nyoka hisses, distractedly. "This can't be right. . . ."

"What did you say?" Bane asks, circling her now, curious.

"Can you go and fetch Erimentha for me?" She hisses, looking at the Fandangle now. "There will be extra cleaning in it for you."

Bane leaves almost at once. Nyoka leans back in her chair and rubs her eyes.

It isn't long before Bane returns, Erimentha following.

"You sent for me, my queen?" Erimentha asks, clasping her knotted hands in front of her.

Nyoka ignores the title this time. "Yes, I wanted to know if this birth record was correct. . . ."

Erimentha's brow furrows and she takes the document. She looks at it carefully before handing it back. "Yes, highness. It is authentic."

"Are you sure? I do not remember this ever happening," Nyoka says, frowning and looking away from Erimentha back to the document.

"Damaris said that you would return to remember everything," Erimentha starts. "Perhaps this is one of the memories you blocked. It is painful. You had to leave her."

Nyoka shakes her head and pushes herself away from the table. She rises from the chair and looks up at Erimentha. "Thank you for your help. I'll be back later. There is much I need to digest."

As Nyoka turns to leave, Erimentha places a hand on her shoulder. "Highness," she starts, and then pauses. "If you do not find all that you need here, I suggest that you speak with Damaris. She is the wisest here, and she knows more than she lets on. If ordered by you, her queen, she will give all the information that she has."

Nyoka bites her lip again and fiddles with the gold belt she is wearing. "I will keep that in mind. Good day," she says before leaving the room.

Once out of the building, Nyoka looks at Bane. "Do you remember the way to the palace, Bane?"

"Of course, Lady Nyoka. Just follow me."

"I've never bathed so bloody much in my life," Nyoka grumbles, wrapping the towel around her body as she looks through the shelf. When her pack was unpacked, her potions were set on a shelf carved into the marble walls. "Who's to say that a supposed queen needs to smell so . . . flowery?"

Uleme chuckles and shakes his head. "It's not as bad as you think. Lady Nyoka."

"If I hear one more title, I am going to scream," Nyoka says, uncorking the potion she needs.

"Majesty?" Calliope's voice is heard after a knock.

"You might want to cover your ears," Uleme says, smiling a little at Nyoka.

Nyoka rolls her eyes and looks at Calliope. "Yes?"

"Erimentha left some records for you," she says, opening the door. She ushers in the three women who were waiting with her. Each is carrying a large box.

"Did she pack up the whole building?" Nyoka asks, looking at the boxes.

"No," Calliope says, her hands clasped in front of her. "There are still more records in her room. These are just some of the things pertaining only to you."

Nyoka nods, and recorks the bottle. She turns back to the chelf and sets it in its place.

"Will you be coming down to dinner, or shall I have it sent up to you?" Calliope asks.

"Send it up, please. It looks like I have much reading to do," Nyoka smiles.

"Very well. I will leave you in pease, majesty," with that, Calliope leaves.

Nyoka looks at the boxes and sighs. "Care to help me, Uleme?"

Uleme stands. He looks over at Nyoka, and then bows deeply. "As you command, Queen Nyoka."

Nyoka grabs a pillow from the bed and throws it at Uleme.

Hours later, and well past nightfall, Nyoka is still sitting in her towel on the bed. Books and scrolls are strewn around her. She has been reading straight through, not touching her dinner at all.

"I feel like my eyes are crossed. Are they, Uleme?" Nyoka asks, looking to the centuar.

Uleme looks up from his papers. "That they are," he teases. "Get dressed. We'll abandon this for the night and go for a walk. We'll share what we have learned."

Nodding, Nyoka stands. She'll be happy for the reprieve, no matter how brief.

As they leave the room, Bane follows. Again, Nyoka does not protest.

"Would you stop doing that, already?" Nyoka narrows her eyes at Calliope.

"What, highness?" Calliope asks, her own eyes widening.

"That," Nyoka answers. "Highness, majesty, Queen. I am not that woman anymore. And you can't expect me to just pick up where Medusa left off! I am no leader."

Calliope pauses a moment, as though unsure of how to approach this latest bit of information. Finally, she asks, "Have you always thought so little of yourself?"

Nyoka blinks. She turns her back to Calliope and picks up one of the books Erimentha sent her. "I don't know what you are talking about."

Calliope takes a step forward. "I think you do, highness."

"I will not ask you again, Calliope," Nyoka says, trying to keep her irritation at bay.

"I cannot call you anything else," Calliope starts. "It is what you are. We have waited many years for your return, Queen Nyoka. You cannot expect us to give all of that up just because you are too afraid to claim your throne, to shoulder the responsibility!" Calliope's usually soft voice is raised much higher than Nyoka has heard.

This causes Nyoka to face Calliope again. "And you cannot expect me to give up my life; my family, my friends, my boyfriend, my bloody dreams and everything I have worked for just to appease you!"

"Look at you!" Calliope moves forward. She pushes Nyoka with a finger to the shoulder and looks down at her with fiery blue eyes. "You've spent all your life conditioning your body to become one of us. You wear a circlet. Your posture is regal at times. You were born for this role. Don't throw your dreams, and everything else, at me. Admit it. You are too afraid to take this on. You're going to turn you back and run away!"

Nyoka clenches her teeth. "You are out of line. . . ."

"I think I am dead on," Calliope says, taking another, threatening, step closer. "You're a coward. You're afraid everyone will see how weak you really are!"

In her anger, Nyoka's eyes flash green. Her hand rears back and she puts all of her strength behind it. She slaps Calliope, sending her head snapping back, and causing her to stagger. "Don't you speak to me in that manner. If you fail to listen, next time I will do worse than slap you. Get out of my sight."

Calliope bows and then hurries from the room. Nyoka doesn't notice, but the blonde Amazon is smiling, and looking very pleased with herself, as she closes the door behind her.

"You looked the part of a queen just then, Lady Nyoka," Bane hisses as he emerges from the shadows.

"Not you as well," Nyoka hisses. She looks sadly at Bane. As much as she is freaked out by the Fandangle, she has grown to tolerate it since coming to Greece. Anything to remind her of home. . . .

"I don't know why you keep turning your back on this," Bane hisses, continuing on as though Nyoka never spoke to him. "Are you really that frightened? Are you that weak?"

Nyoka raises her eyebrow at Bane. "I thought you couldn't understand Greek."

"I can't," Bane says, almost nonchalantly, even if he is just metal. "But I have studied you. There are only a few things that people can say to you to make you that angry: that you are weak and frightened. . . . Among other things."

"Fine," Nyoka says, in english this time, waving his comment away. "I know I am going to regret this, but . . . what do you believe I should do?"

"You must be desperate to ask my opinion on something like this. . . ." Bane hisses as the Fandangle starts to circle Nyoka's head. "In all honesty, since I think I know enough about you to feel I am not leading you astray. . . . I think you should 'step up,' as they say."

Nyoka's brow furrows. "Step up?"

If the cog could sigh, you can bet he would be doing so now. Instead, he stops in front of Nyoka's face. "Stop running away and do what you were born to do, Lady Nyoka. Coming here has added to your responsibilities. You are not just one person anymore. You are all of these women. You need to protect them, lead them. You need to be their queen. You'll regret it if you don't."

"I'm not ready for this, Bane. I am too young. I can't lead these people."

"You'll never know unless you try," Bane points out. "But, if you are too afraid to lead your sisters, I am sure Anemone will understand." With that, Bane returns to the shadows.

Nyoka narrows her eyes at the spot that Bane vanished. After a moment, she turns on her heels and stalks from the room.

Lenore waves her hand at a steaming cup of Irish tea, and it floats over to Nyoka. "You look

This is Ernia, my adopted daughter. She is . . . greedy, seductive, and lacks morals. I don't know where she could have gotten all of that from. I tried to raise her better than that, but I guess I failed. Nevertheless, I love her dearly, and would do anything for her.

User Image
Maethor is another that seems to have been adopted by me. I found her one morning, in a basket with her twin brother. She seems so serious all of the time! And, she is intent on training. I think she is going to take after me. Except, you know, she seems to not have a sense of humor. . . .

User Image
Sereg is Maethor's twin brother. He is the more timid of the two. He seems to be scared most of the time, even if he likes to sit back and instigate things. . . . If I am at home, he will be found, pretty much attatched to my side. I love him, anway, despite that minor annoyance. . . .

User Image
(( *BIGHUGGLES* To Krista and Ala for getting me this amazing art of Lenore! heart )) My mum, Lenore. She is a natural mum, I think. She has this great capacity to love, even if the person doesn't want it. I don't know how she does it, it can't be easy especially where I am concerned. Anyway, I love her, and would do anything to protect her. She is one of the most important things in my life.

Casnes, my younger brother. Again, I would do anything to protect him. I feel a little bad, because I have not been around him much. But, perhaps soon, I will go and visit him again. . . . He is a book-worm to the core! If I thought I liked to learn, he has me topped. He wants to go to school, more than anything, and was accepted into a school, though it has been closed down for now for some reason or other. He learned Elven sooner than I did, perhaps that is in his blood, though. He is shy, terribly so, I have noticed. All-in-all, he is just one of the sweetest people you could ever meet!

User Image
Uleme has taken on the role of father, I think. I don't know when it happened, or why, but there you have it. Uleme is quiet, and wise. He is also one of the links I have to who I was in the past. He took my on the journey that led me to my crown, and my revenge.
I first met Uleme when I was walking in Emerald Forest. I heard him coming, and he claimed that he let me. I believe him, since that moment, he has popped out of the shadows like some ninja, for lack of a better word. Since then, there have been frustrating moments where he knows what is coming, but is not able to tell me. When he tells me that I need to do something, I listen, almost without question.

Nakia is my friend. She was given to me by Kaekia, and now lives with me in Greece. I hardly ever see her, now, though. She is usually out running the streets in the kingdom. She is loyal, though, and is usually around when I just need someone to sit quiet with. She is sometimes annoyingly playful, though. . . .

User Image
Calliope is a fairly new addition to my growing family. I will write more about her when I have gotten to know her better.

This is Sully. He is a very loyal, white wolf. And, he is HUGE! He follows me around the palace, if I can't ditch him. I need to spend more time with him . . . he keeps me on my toes, in a manner of speaking. . . .

Blood Sisters. These three girls I share a bond with - through blood. We went on a little journey, starting out with Aylana and I, and we have been close ever since. Well, except for Ghlyssa. I really wish I would see her more often. I hope everything in her life is well.

Sati and I are pretty close. My brother and her sister are engaged. We had a "tipsy roll" and, I am pleased to say, it has not made our relationship strained. I thank the gods for that one, because I would have lost a really good friend.

Mortimer is someone I have vague memories of when he is younger, and someone that I hope to become friends with. He is a crack up, and I admire that. Hopefully, I will get to spend more time with him to get to know him better. He seems like he would be a good friend to have. Adding some things in here, dear diary. . . . I kissed this darling Fa'e, and actually enjoyed it! And, got all stupid fuzzy at prom when he gave me this really pretty lilly, and even when he sent me roses and chocolate (and I don't even like sweets!). I am fond of him, though, and hope to see more of him. He's really fun to be around! Did I happen to mention he is super sexy when he is angry? twisted

Rune is a . . . special case. I was smashed when I first got . . . up close and personal with him. He seems like a nice guy, from what little I know of him. He's good with kids, from what I have observed. Which, I find rather sweet.

Astaroth is an "ally." I can't really say that he would be loyal, but if I were in battle, I would be lucky to have him. He has a shrewd, cold mind that I admire.

Kia and I are close, to my extreme confusion. I think it has to do with the fact that we share a past together. Apparently, I have two past lives. I was her mother in one of them. As a result, I have a soft spot for her, and it is hard for me to say 'no' to her, even if I don't want to do what she has in mind.

Yani. I miss him so much. I wish I could see him more often. We have so much to catch up on! He will always, always, always have a part of my heart, too. I can remember watching him grow up, and just what a sweet, innocent, and adorable little child he was.

I have only met Nozomi once, but she seemed charming. I hope to have more interaction with her, as she is sort of family, in a strange way. She is Kia's daughter. Even if that were not the case, I think that we have a lot in common, and would have some pretty cool conversations.

I hate this picture, as you can tell. This is one of the many times that I have wanted to hurt my mum. You see that bow? And those aweful curls? She did that to me, on Easter, and put a charm on my hair and the bow so that there was no way for me to be able to get them out until she felt like removing the charm.

I actually like this picture of me. I don't remember how I got it, or who took it, but I was in my element, there. With my trusted bow, and out in the full moon in the forest. Nothing better than that, is there?

One of my friends snapped this picture of me, thinking it was the funniest moment of my life. Well, it wasn't! I thought I had scale rot, or something like that! I had to walk around with a shirt on for weeks and weeks, which wasn't comfortable, let me tell you!

I love this painting. It is, actually, a really large painting that was done by one of the artists that lives in the palace. I am extremely pleased that I didn't have to pose for this, I think I would have been sore by the end of it all. I am pleased with just how accurate it is, though! It is hanging right where the stairs fork to either wing of the palace.

1) A feather from Aadil. I have two, one in my hair, and one I have sharpened to use as a quill for my journal. 2) Aylana's feather, which is in the same braid in my hair as well. 3) A plushie of me from prom . . . yeah, I keep this hidden. Bad memories. . . . 4) A plushie of me when I was a toddler. I like it, so it stays on a shelf in my room. 5) My journal! My mum made this for me, and it has gotten me through some rough spots. If I had not had this thing to write in, I would have gone mad long ago. 6) The bracelet Shina made me. I never take it off. 7) The sisters bracelet. The charm that represents us starts glowing when that person is nearby. As a result, the snake is always glowing. But, I am never without this either. 8 ) My first bow. I still use it, when my favorite bow needs polishing. . . . 9) Ah, and this, my friends, is my favorite bow. It is special, and enchanted to be practically indestructable. I still baby it, though. . . . 10) The sheath for my sword. I don't wear this often, as my sword is not my weapon of choice. But, I love it none-the-less. 11) Lastly, one of my prized possessions: my Harley. This thing is awesome. Silver got the man to modify it, so that I can ride it with my tail as well. I just love it!

February 10, 2004.
When I woke up this morning, in my basement studio on the rather uncomfortable spare bed I keep in there, it was the the feeling of a tail hitting against me. I looked next to me on my bed and saw a small baby girl.

She looked nothing like a normal baby. But, she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I was in love. I picked her up in my arms and she looked up into my eyes with her bright green ones and the single snake sprouting from her head sniffed me with its tongue.

I found a thick, blue blanket to wrap her in and then smiled down at her. "I am your mommy," I said.

The little girl giggle hypnotically, then said: "Mommy!"

I was shocked, but I laughed. "That's right," I said. "You know, little one, I have to name you."

So, still holding her close to me, I looked through my book of baby names that I used to name my art work. Then, I found the perfect one.

"Little Nyoka," I told her. "It means 'snake' in African."

"Nyoka," she cooed. Then, she yawned, showing me snake fangs. She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.

**LATER**

After Nyoka woke up, she and I went to the store. Once we reached the upstairs living room, Nyoka started screaming. I looked down at her, to see if she was alright, but her face was twisted in fear and she was trying to hide herself from the sunlight in my shirt.

I ran to close the curtains all around the house. As soon as the sun was blocked, Nyoka calmed down and stopped crying. Just like she does in her sleep, she started to suck on the end of her tail.

We will be making our way to the HQ today, for the first time, so Nyoka can meet some of the other Fa'es. I might be writing in here later, when we get back.

February 11, 2004.
Nyoka met Arakel today. She seemed to like him a lot. Wotcher mentioned that he never talked a lot with anyone other than his brother, but he and Nyoka had a conversation of sorts. Granted, it had to be cut short because Wotcher had to be going.

She also met Shina and Aylana. They seemed to be getting along quite well, and then Shina had to leave. Soon after that, I had leave as well.

Nyoka surprizes me with how well she is able to say words. She has only just come to me, and already she can say her name, mommy, hi, Arakel's name, Aylana, and Shina, along with many pther words now. I am very proud of her, though I doubt her intellect has anything to do with my influence.

Before she went to bed, I read her a chapter from the first Harry Potter book. She seemed to enjoy it. So much so, that she was reluctant to nod off. Finally, though, sleep overtook her.

I am watching her as she sucks on her tail, sleeping next to me in my bed. She looks so peaceful, so sweet, in her sleep.

Now, I am getting tired. So ends my first day with Nyoka.

February 11, 2004.
Nyoka and I went back to the HQ today. She met Onuris for the first time. She seemed to like him, as well. She also met Anubis, Onuris' "Guardian." Once we got home, Nyoka wanted to know why she did not have a pet. I told her I just had not found the right one for her yet.

Sy was a little worried today, about something that Onuris drew. I tried to calm her down, comfort her, but I think I did more harm that good. I am worried about her now. I only hope that she is alright and that she doesn't worry herself into a sleepless night. She has to stay healthy for Onuris.

Nothing else really went on. Nyoka is becoming an even more brilliant mimic. She is starting to string words together to make sentences. They are choppy, but they are still sentences.

We made it through another chapter of The Sorcerer's Stone before Nyoka let herself sleep. She is full of energy a lot of the time. I don't know how she does it.

Looking in:
Lenore comes in, watching Nyoka silently from the doorframe. She's playing with one of her sprites, the hammer head.

Nyoka stops suddenly and looks up to the door. A grin spreads across her face and her green eyes start to twinkle. "Mommy! Come play!" she giggles.

"Nyoka, I have something for you," Lenore says. "Two things, actually." She remembered how, when Nyoka met Anubis at the HQ yesterday, she asked why she did not have a pet.

She bought her a pet, and another plushie to sleep with. First, Lenore gives Nyoka the plushie. "He's your new friend, Nyoka. What are you going to name him?"

Nyoka looks at the jester, lovingly. Without looking up, she says, "Salazar."

Lenore smiles. She knows that, already, Nyoka is becoming as big a fan of Harry Potter as she is. She finds it amuzing that the one House founder's name she remembered would be Salazar Slytherin's.

"Come on, Nyoka," Lenore says. "I have to take you to your next surprise."

Nyoka grasps Salazar tightly in her hands and holds her arms up, asking to be held. Lenore picks her up and carries her to the living room.

On a table by itself, against the wall, is a large tank. Inside, is a baby green snake. Lenore points to the tank. "You have a pet, Nyoka."

Nyoka beams at Lenore, then looks at the snake inside. "Snake," she says, then points to the one on her head. "Like Stripes!"

Lenore laughs. "What do you want to name the snake?"

"Snakey," Nyoka giggles. "Can Nyoka hold Snakey?"

Lenore shakes her head. "Not until both of you are much older, Nyoka," she replies.

Nyoka looks sad for a moment, then smiles. "Thank you, mommy." Nyoka hugs Lenore around the neck.

As soon as Naia got home today, she dragged me out to go shopping. Her Uncle Lucian had told her about Valentine's Day and, this being her first, she wanted to do a little something for her "brothers and sisters". You'll be happy to know she was responsible enough to buy Nyoka's gift with her own pocket money. We hope you two enjoy!
