If you take the time to read the item descriptions, you'll find that there are a lot more people, places, and institutions in Gaia than can be seen at first glance. I thought I'd compile a list of these and open up the floor for random speculation about them. Let me know if I've left anything out.

Alice - "She awoke in a nightmare and spent her life bathed in blood. It was said that the undead were no match for Alice."
Arachne - "There was once a reclusive race of arachnids who were known to symbiotically live off of its prey by living inside of their bodies, thus controlling them. Arachne ruled as Queen of the Eastern armies for a century before the people discovered she was not human -- thusly executing her on the spot. Shortly thereafter, the Eastern armies fell."
Bammi - "The cutest hamster in the world's evil twin brother~!"
Bucho - Former head of security at G CORP. Seen at the 2004 Halloween Party, shortly before the mansion exploded. Currently acting as Gino's bodyguard (see link).
CoCo Kitty - "CoCo is KiKi's mischievous cousin who is always up to no good."
Daisy - "Everywhere she went, people adored her. In her eyes, they saw the purity and innocence of a child. Little did they know that she was over one thousand years old."
Felicia - "She was born into a life of poverty and despair. Despite the odds, she rose to become the greatest leader her province ever knew. She was a woman of grace, beauty, and intelligence."
Jakoblade - Legendary swordsmith who forged the Ancient Katana, to be used by the first samurai king against the Norisu Ninja Clan.

Lex - "When she was growing up, she defied her parents. When she came of age, she defied the law. No wonder she was executed."
Marcus - "The evil wizard Marcus is fabled to have imprisoned the power of the sun in his staff which he used to channel its great power. When Marcus fell, the staff shattered releasing a burst of energy searing everything from Barton to Durem."
Morgana - "Parents tell their children stories of a wicked, old woman who lived in the woods. Legend has it that her cackle can still be heard at night."
Dr. Nash - "Dr. Nash was sent to prison 30 years for crimes against humanity. After his release he designed this incredibly comfortable walking shoe. Life is strange."
Pandy - "Pandy was the last of his species. He was very sad. Though one day, he heard that there was an ancient island in the south where there were more like him. He put on his trusty pack and went off in search of a family..."
Perusi - "The master swordsman Perusi had [the Sword of Aegis] fashioned from the head of the slain Gorgonus, a creature whose gaze could turn a person to stone with a single glance."
RoRo Robo-Puppy - "KiKi Kitty's arch nemesis. From time to time, RoRo would team up with various human villains to try and capture her."
Tortuga Turtle - "They say that you shouldn't get a Tortuga turtle mad..."
Treylan Gruff - Famous general. "It was said that he led his army of 5,000 men against an army of 30,000 men... and prevailed."
Vladimir Von Helson - Father of the Von Helson Sisters. Recently passed away under mysterious circumstances, leaving the twins in charge of his impressive estate.
Vol Geh Trahn - Legendary emperor of an unspecified location. "Though he passed away at a relatively young age of 55, his empire ruled for centuries to come."

the beautiful woman - "When I first saw her, it looked like the dress was made of pure sunlight. ...She fell asleep under a hilltop tree on that sunny day with that hat over her face. I remember walking up to her to ask for directions. She tilted the hat up to see me as we spoke and with only one look at her face, I knew this was the girl I would marry."

the poor girl - "There was once a poor little girl who worked so hard all of her life to take care of her family. Dressed in rags for clothing, she was selfless and never dared to spend on herself. At the height of summer, there was a festival in which all of the town would dress up and party. A faerie descended one day and gave her this veil, a simple cloth that would ensure that her true beauty would be shown to everyone. That night at the festival, she found her true love."

A woman came forward and pushed the brain back into his head, packing it in nicely with some snow. She reassured us, 'Don't worry, I'm a doctor.' "

Allen Fah - A kingdom conquered by an anonymous, battle-scarred hero.
Buckley Hall - "If you've ever attended class in Buckley Hall, you'll find that it's very f*#@in' cold in there. Better put on this sweater vest before you freeze your @$$ off!"
Eastern Continent - Source of the Straw Hat. Possibly where Vol Geh Trahn ruled?
Felis Island - Source of the cat gloves, boots, tail, and ears. "A distant island on which large jungle cats are the only inhabitants."
NEW! Mythra Mountains - Where Mythrill is mined by "inefficient, unionized dwarves."
Northern Continents - "The seafaring folk of the Northern Continents were well known for their unsurpassed skill at fishing ... well, that and cold blooded murder." An Old Norse/Scandanavian themed land.
South Durham (Durem?) - Beautiful countryside, a place to retire and enjoy a quiet life.
Other:
the Doptera - "There was once a race of graceful insectoid beings known as the Doptera. Their queen was said to have worn a mantilla which, when spread open and gazed upon, would fill the hearts of men with a light of joy. An evil king hunted and killed her to steal her mantilla. However, he did not realize that its form reflected that of its owner's heart. And once he donned it, it disintegrated into ash."
Dragons:
"In this day and age, dragonkind has become nearly extinct. Necromancers of our age have sought to bring them back to life through the dark arts and thus the Bone dragon was born -- a reanimated skeleton of a dragon with the ability to break itself apart and reshape itself at will."

Hibi - An aboriginal tribe associated with Isle de Gambino. The Ocean Wrap and Ocean Sarong are made from Hibi cloth.
Kyubi - "Known shapeshifters who often took the form of a sly fox."
Noir - Famous design firm whose clothing lines can be found all over Gaia.
Norisu Ninja Clan - "Rumored to possess secret, dark arts known as Asu Kikingu. One of these arts was the ability to control links of chain and blades as an extension of their body for either attacking or for defense."
