Welcome to the home of the Felixi!

Felixi are a little known species that are said to have the ability to affect the probability of events around them; in other words, they bring luck.

The Felixi website contains many features to enable owners and their friends to interact with felixi. These features will be upgraded and added to in the future.

Current features include:

Felixi become hungry over time
Restore hunger by feeding, and gain experience by playing
Felixi grow in levels and stages by playing
Three different stages: child, adolescent and adult
Item ordering system in the Felixi Item Shop
Items can be equipped or used on felixi
Change your felixi's description to be displayed on their profile page
Three different sized tags for forum signatures

11 Dec 2005 Got a bit of bad news for Felixi...

I know I've promised a lot of things, in particular for Christmas, but with the workload that's suddenly sprung up I don't think I'll be able to deliver. I've just finished my degree and at a point in my life where I really need to sort out what I really want, and get my priorities straight. I love Gaia and I love this shop, but I have too many things going on right now that need to take precendence over them, until I get into the swing of working full-time and sorted out some things in my life I'm not completely happy with at least.

I know a lot of people watch this shop, and many are waiting for a chance to have a felixi, but I don't think I can run Felixi without neglecting other important things in my life, at this point. So... I'm putting this shop on hiatus, and semi-retiring from Gaia myself for a while. I'll still be around, just probably not as much as I was when I was a carefree student >.< The felixi site and all existing felixi will still be up and running of course, and I'll do my best to fix any bugs as they come out. There just won't be any new felixi or events until I've sorted things out. I still have plenty of ideas and have every intention of reopening the shop eventually, but I don't want to say when in case I can't keep it sweatdrop

A demo version of the flatsale can now be found here. The flatsale on the day will run exactly the same, except that it will only let you have one roll (unless you roll a double), and your score will be recorded in the scoreboards under the felixi. Remember you'll only be able to play for one of the two felixi on the day, so choose carefully!

Thankyou to Presca and Pika-Bunny for donating. Custom donation felixi will hopefully be up soon~ish, but I also have ideas for a Halloween competition and a flatsale, so there'll be plenty more chances to get felixi soon ^_^

28 Sept 2005 Looking at my current assignments, it doesn't look like I'll be able to spend much time on Felixi for the next month or so sweatdrop This is my final year of my degree, so its important to do well (or pass at least), so it's possible that I won't be able to run a big flatsale or add any new features at least until these assignments are over, and possibly not until after my exams finish in mid November. I might try and run a few special sales during that time since they require less preperation, so watch out for those over the next month or so. I have plenty of new ideas and plans for Felixi for when I can actually do them!

- General Rules -

1. DO NOT steal or copy any artwork, concepts or coding. A lot of work has been put into this shop and I'm very attached to my creation, so theft of any kind will be severely dealt with in THE BOTTOMLESS PIT OF NO RETURN.
2. Do not attempt to hack, fool or manipulate any part of the the Felixi website. If you see a glitch of any kind, please PM Chisa immediately with the url of where the glitch was sighted, and as detailed a description of what went wrong as you can. Taking advantage of a glitch instead of reporting it could cost you your felixi.
3. No begging. Please. It's not pretty. Availability will be clearly stated on this front page, and exceptions will not be made.
4. Don't harrass, flame or start fights with anyone in this thread. If you've got beef with me or someone in this thread, duke it out via PM and leave my shop peaceful please.
5. All forum rules and ToS apply here.
6. Inability to follow the rules may result in you losing your felixi and/or ending up in one of the bad lists. So make sure you read and understand them all.

- FlatSale Rules -

1. Each person can own only 2 flatsale felixi. This is just so everyone has a fair chance. It does not include auction, pet trade or special event felixi.
2. A person cannot win two consecutive flatsales. Again for the fair chance.
3. Follow the instructions. Flatsales will usually be different each time, so make sure you understand its specific rules
and instructions.

- Auction Rules -

1. No threatening or being rude to other bidders. No one likes a bad sport.
2. Bids cannot be changed or withdrawn. If you make a bid, it stays.
3. Don't bid more than you have. Common sense, really.

- Facts -

Felixi are small, colourful creatures that are said to have the ability to the affect probability of events around them. In other words, they bring luck.

When a Felix is born it is set adrift on the wind inside a bubble by its parents. It is believed that Fate will guide the baby Felix back to its parents, and in most cases this is exactly what happens. Some however, whether through bad luck or a cruel twist of Fate, never manage to reach their parents. These lost children are left drifting, searching for somebody to give them the care they need...

Felixi like to eat mushrooms like the one on the right. Don't mind the eyes. They also have the magpie-like tendency to collect and hoard items, and love having new toys to play with.

- Growth -

Baby felixi are found floating inside bubbles which protect them in this vulnerable stage. It will spend this entire stage sleeping, but indications of its personality can be seen in its unique colouring and markings. At this stage they have just enough luck to avoid harm, but not enough to extend its powers beyond the bubble. Males and females look the same at this stage.
At this stage, felixi begin at Level 0.

Child felixi emerge from their bubbles, and begin to show more personality in their words and actions. At this stage are roughly the size of a kitten, and resemble a small marsupial. They are able to talk and are extremely curious and playful.
A felixi will reach this stage at Level 10.

Adult felixi are roughly the size of a cat and become more human-like in appearance, though still retaining their ears, tail and distinctive colouring. They are very talkative at this stage, and often quite opinionated. Despite their size and child-like appearance they often have insightful opinions, so don't just dismiss them as children. At this stage felixi become more interested in collecting things, and are able to equip items.
A felixi will reach this stage at Level 25.

Unlike many other pets found in the Breedables forum, felixi do not grow through roleplaying or simply over time. The do however need you or other people to interact with them to be happy and grow heart

The usual form of the tag will display your felixi, any equipped items, your felixi's name, your name, your felixi's level, their hunger meter and experience meter. If someone clicks on the tag, it will take them to your felixi's profile page on the Felixi website, where they can feed and play with them.

Hunger will go down over time, and can be replenished when somebody clicks 'Feed' on your felixi's profile page, or when you feed it an item such as the Big Mushroom. It's generally a good idea to keep this bar as full as possible. Each person can only feed a felixi once every hour.

Experience will increase each time your felixi is played with. The amount of experience gained each time is semi-random, but will be affected by how hungry your felixi is. The more full your felixi is, the greater the chance that the EXP gained will be large. Felixi with dangerously low hunger levels (less than 10) are too weak to play at all. Each person can only play with a felixi once every hour.

A new level will be gained each time your felixi's EXP bar becomes full. Although there are only three stages, felixi can gain levels infitely. Or whatever the limit of an INT type is...Felixi will evolve to their child stage when they reach level 10, and reach their adult stage at level 25.

Roleplaying is not required, but if you wish to you may do so in this thread. After few flatsales and if there is enough interest in RPing, I'll make a guild for everyone to live in heart

A listing of all items that can be purchased and the item ordering system is available on the Felixi website. While items are not necessary to having a happy felixi, its fun to dress them up a bit 4laugh Item updates will occur when I have enough time to make and test them.

Useable Items will usually have some kind of stat effect when given to your felixi, restoring its hunger bar to 100 for example. These items can only be used once, and can be given to felixi at any stage.

Equippable Items can be equipped to an adult felixi, and come in a range of different types. These items can be equipped and unequipped at any time. A felixi must be at the adult stage to equip items. The word 'equip' is cool, thats why I use it so much.

Special Items will eventually be available at special events, or random events in this thread. They may be useable or equippable, and will be different to the items purchased in the store.

Custom Items will sometimes be part of an auction or pet trade package, and will usually be equippable. The person commissioning the custom item will be able to specify what they want it to be (within reason), and the item will not be available to any other owner.

Familiars and backgrounds are still being developed will hopefully be available soon. They will also be equippable.

- Shopping! -

To purchase an item for your felixi, you must first log in to the Felixi website.

1. Click 'Items' in the menu at the top of the site to reach the items page.

2. You can then browse through the items, and click 'preview' to see what it will look like when equipped (if equippable).

3. Select the items you wish to purchase by checking the checkboxes to the left of each item, then click 'Add Selected' to add these items to your current order.

4. The items you selected should now appear on your Orders page under 'Current Order'. At this stage you can still add items to your order by going back to the items page and repeating the same process as before.

5. If you change your mind about some of the items in your current order, you can select them on your Orders page and click 'Remove Selected' to remove them to your order.

6. When you're happy with the items in your order, click 'Send Order'.

7. It will then tell you the total amount of your order, and tell you to send a trade for that amount to me (Chisa). This is very important, because if I do not recieve a trade your order will not be filled.

8. Once the trade has been approved on both ends and has gone through, I'll approve your order and the items will appear in your inventory!

9. You can view any orders that you've sent and haven't yet been filled under 'Unfilled Orders' on your Orders page. If for some reason you want to cancel the order at any point after it has been sent, please send me a PM with the order number and why you want to cancel it.

10. Item orders are non-refundable once the trade has gone through, so please choose wisely!

- Flatsales -

As felixi are generally attracted to people with a high degree of luck themselves, flatsales will generally be luck based. They won't just be your average raffles though - expect the unexpected wink I'll try and make them as interesting as I can.

Flatsales will be announced roughly a week beforehand, and will usually run for 24 hours to allow people from different timezones a chance. 3 or 5 felixi will be sold at each flatsale (because 4 is an unlucky number), and they will be displayed when the flatsale is announced. To give everyone a chance, a person cannot win two consecutive flatsales, and no one can own more than 2 flatsale felixi.

All flatsale felixi will cost 6k. In some cases, a sealed letter for that month will be accepted instead.

Quickie FAQ
Do I need to register an account to participate in the flatsale? Nope, on the day of the flatsale there will be a space to put in your Gaia username, and a button to press that will roll the dice. You don't have to register an account beforehand or do anything else.

Can I play using my mules as well? NO. I will be checking for mules, and yes I do have reliable ways of finding them. Anyone found to be using a mule account to enter the flatsale will have any of their entries disqualified, and depending on the case and their history may be banned altogether.

Can I put in a name other than my Gaia username? No, because then I have no way of contacting you. Anyone found to be exploiting the system and playing with bogus names will be banned.

I can't go online on the day of the flatsale! Can I have a friend play for me? Yup, just ask your friend to put in your username for you. They can play with their name too, but please post saying so in this thread so I know neither of you is cheating.

- Special Sales -

Special sales will occur sporadically, usually when I have a little spare time. They will be announced a week beforehand, and will usually only be for one felixi.

So what's so special about it?

It works slightly differently to the regular flatsales. Participants will put a small banner like the one on the left in their signature during the specified week. At some point during the week, a felixi will appear in the bubble! As soon as it apepars, the first person to post "Lucky me!!!" in this thread and has the banner in their sig will win that felixi.

Technically you could get away with just stalking the shop/someone with the banner in their sig and change your sig after you see it change, but do you really want to waste those precious few moments? wink

Special sale felixi will also cost 6k, and rules about the number of felixi allowed also apply to these.

Q: I really want a felixi, but when I went to the site I couldn't see where to register an account! Where do I log in?
A: You can't register an account unless you have won a felixi in a flatsale or auction. Logins are for owners only, and normal users shouldn't have any need to log in.

Q: How come you refer to them as 'felixi' for both the singular and the plural?
A: It's 'felixi' no matter how many you're talking about. One felixi, two felixi, red felixi, blue felixi.

Q: Why are they so expensive?!
A: I know its expensive, but Felixi aren't ordinary pets - they're interacive, so you can feed them, play with them, equip them with items and a few
other fun features. It also means that a large amount of work has gone into coding the system on top the artwork. It also also
takes up a very large portion of my limited bandwidth and hosting, which I'm paying real money for. I think it's worth it, and if you
don't... wait for a special event to get one for free?

Q: Are felixi breedable?
A: No, and at this stage I don't have any intention of including it as a feature in the future. They're too child-like,
it looks kinda wrong O_o

Q: Can felixi be co-owned?
A: Nope, sorry, its only set up for single owners.

Q: Do you do pet trades?
A: I'm not really a bit collector of pets, and the only shops I'm currently interested in are Valens and Tohu. Feel free to ask, but bear in mind that the answer will most likely be a no.

Q: I want to work for you! Are you hiring?
A: I'm not currently hiring, but I may be in the future. Info will be posted when and if jobs become available.

Q: I have a great interactive pet idea; will you be my pet code monkey? heart
A: I'll only do large coding projects for real money, so if you have a spare few hundred dollars, feel free to send me an email at chisathechi@gmail.com . Otherwise, no.

Q: I'm coding something, but its too hard! Will you debug it all for me/tell me what to do/redo it for me?
A: While I'm happy to offer what advice I can, I will not code or debug a whole project for you O_o

Q: What programs/languages did you use to make Felixi?
A: All images were sketched and coloured in Adobe Photoshop CS, and all the coding side of things were done using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. PHP was used for the functionality, MySQL for the database control, and HTML and CSS were used in in the structure and design of the website.

Q: What's with the real money donations? Are you greedy or something?
A: This project isn't free to run - in fact it takes up a large portion of my limited webspace and bandwidth, which I am paying for in real money. In the event that Felixi outgrows the hosting plan I'm currently on, I'd like to have the resources to upgrade my plan and continue to sell them, otherwise I'll have to cap the number of felixi or stop it altogether confused I'm not expecting many donations, if any at all, but I'd really appreciate any that I do recieve. All donators will receive a special gift for their generous contribution.

Q: The screen is displaying something... weird/something happened on the site that shouldn't have!
A: It's possible that there are still glitches in the system. If something strange happens or appears, please PM Chisa immediately with the url of page you saw the error on, and as detailed a description of what you were trying to do and what went wrong as you can.

- Helpful Resources -

When I was coding the Felixi site, I found that there isn't really a lot of material out there to work from, and I was to shy to ask other interactive petshop owners how they created their system sweatdrop So for anyone interesting in creating an interactive pet, I'll post things that I found helpful here. Please note that most of these sites assume some understanding of basic html, css, php and mysql techniques, so if you aren't familiar with them it would be a good idea to find tutorials for the basics first.

CenixHOST - My hosting provider ^_^ I've found them pretty affordable and reliable, and their support services are excellent. I think I exchanged about 25 emails with them initially trying to figure out how to work things, and they were very patient explaining things to me, and always seemed to reply within an hour of me emailing them not matter what time it was.

CSS.Maxdesign.com.au - Awesome CSS tutorial site. Listamatic rocks my socks.

Aurouranet Hit Counter Tutorial - This helped a lot when developing the feeding/playing system.

Orgdot Open Source - Pixel Fonts - Lotsa pixel fonts, and a handydandy tester.

DaFONT.com - More pixel fonts. I mainly used 'Pixelade' in my tags, if anyone is curious.

Login Script Tutorial - Awesome tutorial for a login system. If you're adventurous, there's also an extended versions with even more fun features.

Dynamic Sig Tutorial - Scroll down to the 5th post I think it is, for info on how to merge images and text with PHP. This was really handy in making the tags dynamic.
