Hey sacred texts online!
http://www.sacred-texts.com/oto/index.htm
oh and i found someone with a good definition much happiness
http://www.conjurer.org/?id=magic
i did all that work trying to decipher energy signature answers just to find it written in plain text... go figure
This discussion is about all the wonderful and sometimes comical things you can do with magic, rangeing from shielding to talking about magical creatures. There is a wide range of knowledge to be had concerning this subject, much myth and some truth. There are many different branches of magic, and many different types of magic. Each branch has its strengths and weaknesses like all things and this thread is made to explore both myth and truth concerning the magical world. One myth is that magic is confined to witch craft which is not the case, magic covers alot more then just that. most religions practice magic even if that is not there name for it. I call it magic others may have different names i call it many things in turn but what it is is what i'm trying to expand upon here. There are also many myths concerning angels and demons and many concerning other magical or spiritual creatures.
So I would also like to talk about other mythical and magical creatures in this thread. I know of many creatures which are considered magical, you have to if you've ever worked with summoning. Also information on magical creatures is also good in case you ever run into them. I would like to have this thread open for the discussion of not just magic and theology(angels and demons) but also to cover magical creatures and the uses of plants and other things and how they pertain to magic
A short definition of magic: I define magic as the concious control of matter and energy. I beleive that matter can be used to channel energy. This is the basis of all magic. Generally you use will and emotion to actually gain control and power over the energy and matter, the stronger your will the more amount of energy and matter that you can influence. You use creativity and thought to shape it, to give it meaning, you use it to think of ways to concerve energy and find the easiest way to accomplish a goal with the least amount of influence.
Many times people use runes and symbols as representations of things this is the most common way to do magic and where beleif structures come in. Personally i do not. I use energy structures, sometimes I use symbols or words as representations of what I want but only when I can't focus or need to create something new on the spot.
A LIST OF MAGICS(that i know of and can have a nice discussion about, sugestions would be appreciated):
Love magic: A branch of magic dedicated to love; finding love manipulateing love and useing love as a power source for magic and much much more
Phoenix magic/species oriented magics: Each species has magic that utilizes that particular species to do spells, sometimes you must be of that species to do the spell and other times you need some sort of object of the species like a hair or feather to do the spell.
Summoning magics: Magic which draws a creature to a spot of your chooseing, sometimes it is used to bind or manipulate the creature after it is summoned. A summoned creature must go to the one who summoned it or the place the summoner directs it to go.
Sheild magics: Creating a defensive sheild to stop attacks protect your self and other defensive things, it can be used offensively to but is less likely to be used that way.
Spell casting: Manipulating energy into energy formations to get a desired affect.
Candle magic: Any magic having to do with using a candle as a focus. Generally used for summoning or outlining parameters, also can be used for divination and fire based magic?s.
Mirror magic: Any magic having to do with using a mirror as a focus. Scrying, summoning, trapping things in mirrors. In other words using mirrors as a focus for a gateway, also can be used as a shield or a barrier
Bindings: Warding is another term for this, it is blocking certain functions from use except for the specified parameters. It?s like putting a lock on something such as a door or a certain activity. The lock prevents the door to be opened or the activity to be done. This can be an aspect of shielding.
Religious based magic?s: Magic?s which are based on religious beliefs or convictions, many times asking a god or goddess for protection or help.
Herbalist magic?s: Using the natural abilities of herbs and natural alloys for magical purposes.
Life magic: Magic which utilizes the power of life. This can be creating new life healing and other such things, this can also be sapping the power of life from someone or blocking them from the source of life. There is more it's a complicated and much debated subject.
Death magic: Magic which utilizes the power of death. When something dies it gives off all it's power, all the power that was in the physical body, death magic utilizes this through sacrifices or just channeling the energies of the recently dead. It does not take the power of the soul just the power the soul lost when it lost its body.
Black hole magic: The creation of a black hole and utilization of such. I'm not going to explain this in detail
Soul magic?s: Magic utilizing the power of the soul. Also can be the manipulation of the soul and structuring of the soul.
Elemental magic?s: Magic utilizing the power of the elements and physical world. Also manipulation of the elements
Creation magic?s: Using pure energy to create physical structures.
Necromancy sad common definition) Giving a person a new lease on life in exchange for there free will. (other definition) Calling on dead spirits for guidance power yada yada
This is bringing the spiritual into the physical through binding. This relies on soul binding.
White magic: Magic in which one relies on creativity and thought to do magic
Black magic: Magic in which one relies on will and emotion to do magic
Energy attack magic: One masses energy to attack people with. This can be spell casting if structured
Transmutation: Changing one physical or spiritual object into another
Shape shifting: Changing your physical or spiritual form into something else
Psychic magics: Magics which involve delving controlling or channeling another?s thoughts and emotions.
Channeling: Drawing in energy or influence and passing it through a physical conduit
Creature/Human manipulation magic?s i.e. Possession: controlling a person, making them do what you want them to do say what you want them to say and act how you want them to act (it's not a very nice thing to do)
Empathy: Understanding how people feel through magical means (one of the psychic magic?s)
Illusion: Creating images that don't exist (doesn't take much energy)
Levitation: Using energy manipulation to move things and much much more (latter may come a list of creatures and a small description of creatures and magic?s for those who are unaware)
Now as promised THE LIST OF MYTHICAL CREATURES (any additions would be appreciated there are so many I probably won't be able to cover them all)
Many stories of creatures of power seem to imply some ability to change shape or form.
Phoenix: A fiery bird very beautiful who is reborn out of its own ashes. The ashes are collected in an egg and placed on an alter at the site of its death or brought to the sacred place in Egypt where any phoenix can be reborn. I don't wish to state its weakness because it is a very rare species.
Dragon: Much like a snake or lizard but with wings. They vary in types and specialties but all can fly and are extremely strong. They are generally large
Drakes: Smaller lesser dragons which have trouble flying sometimes and aren't as powerful.
Werewolves (Lycans): Generally thought of a mix between a wolf and a human but that doesn't really do them justice. The full moon is there most powerful time and they're blood is deadly to vampires and some other things.
Vampires: Many times a lover of art and darkness they have beautiful wings and exquisite taste. They feed off of magic and since the blood is one of the highest concentrations of magic some feed off of that. They drain everything around them and they constantly feeding. They can't feed off of the blood of there own kind, they're very strong, and when they develop they're skills can incapacitate they're enemies through draining off of them.
Not to be confused with Psychic Vampires which have problems with their energy systems.
Pegasus: Winged horses, they're feathers have magical properties along with their manes.
Unicorns: Most distinctive feature is its horn, which has many properties and can be used as a nice weapon when the unicorn is threatened.
Naga's: Snake people, common lore is that they are cursed elves but I don't agree. They live underground usually and there are underground lakes, which is there primary residence. They are excellent swimmers and can usually shape shift between human and snake form.
Elves: There are generally two different groups of elves; high elves and forest elves and they have completely different cultures. High elves are more into the beauty of art and sculpture and such while wood are more in favor of the natural beauty of the world around them.
Dwarves: Little men? lol... They are earth dwellers who are depicted as being miners and good at finding precious stones. They generally use earth magic and are strong and sometimes stout. They have high endurance and are very loyal.
Gnomes: Garden gnomes are so degrading... similar to dwarves but not as strong and they generally live in hilly plains and such.
Giants: Tall strong and depicted as stupid. Can live in high or low altitudes known for strength and determination.
D'Jin: Genies very powerful in magic. Read up on Indian mythos
D'Jenn: Fire magic users very deadly
Nymphs: Considered to be sexy naked ladies running through the forest. They are what I?d consider to be elementals who adopt a human form in order to interact with out siders. Highly involved with nature and sometimes cannot leave the element they are tied to. Can't leave their element for long periods of time.
Dryads: Tree nymphs Tied to a tree or other living thing. It is the soul of the tree and may not be away from the tree for long periods of time. It is the soul of the tree and if the dryad dies the tree dies and vica versa. Trees may walk
Succubus: Sucks your soul out through sex. A succubus tries to use her/his allure to get a man to be intimate with her where in she drains you of all your energy and vitality and leaves you for dead. You become so enmeshed with her that you don't even notice that your dieing and many don't have the presence of mind to break away from the interaction.
Demons: Dark spirits who are said to leave in hell or some sort of underworld. Generally depicted as evil and trying to kill people.
Satyres: Generally thought of half man half goat. Sometimes are considered the counterpart to dryads. Depicted as playing a fief and skipping in the forest with the dryads and other forest magical creatures.
Pixies: Fast flying strong and dexterous. They generally look like small People with wings there are many different types of pixies, some which are more helpful, then others. Can be tricksters.
Sprites: MY favorite sprites! Something along the lines of a super strong blue pixie which leaves trials of blue sparkles of magic when it flies. Extremely strong extremely fast and has powerful magic.
Basilisks: A cute little tubby lizard with barely any legs, which wobbles when it walks. Or a lizard that turns people to stone with its glare... Fear the lizard!
Banshee: Irish legend has it that hearing the wail of a Banshee signifies that someone is going to die soon.
Manticore: which possesses many rows of poison teeth, dragon's wings, scorpion tail, lion's body, and the face of a man.
Sylph:
Many many mix breeds
Basharok: They are a fox like creature , about 5 feet in length, with earthy- orange fur. They are reathed in fire, and have sharp claws and a vicious bite. They can take a more human form in which they still have a tail and ears, but no fire.
Angelics : Metaphysical Subgroup Of otherkin
Angels (title not a creature)
Sub group of angels Arch Angels (there are two:need citation)
Fallen Angels (not to be confused with angels, they lost all of the power given to them by god)
and on a personal note all the people who think that one of Satan?s names is the morning star
http://www.1john57.com/isaiah1412.htm
The morning star is one of the 7 angels who did not fall
About a third didn't fall, there originally were 20 angels
There are 2 arch angels and 5 others
Demons are not fallen angels demons are something different, generally called the minions of hell
If you look closely at the quote jesus is saying he has a message from an angel, and then he says "i am..." The rest of the sentence is that of the angel. Latter it says that the morning star and the angels sang in heaven. The morning star is one of the angels and was singing with them, they always make it morning stars but in the old text they used the same singular pronounciation of the word and then now its translated it into plural. Jesus is not the morning star and neither is Satan.
Angel is a title nothing more, angels are not a race of beings, they can adopt wings if they choose but they do have a form other then angelic. They are not creatures of pure white, they have emotions.
God has a sence of humor and he is not pure "white", he is a pure being, and i guess angels are to but white doesn't mean good and dark doesn't mean evil. Nothing is completely dark and nothing is completely light, a balance of both is what i strive for.
The bible is flawed because humans are flawed, god is not against magic, and i have a question about jesus, he was supposed to releive the Jewish people from subjugation and persecution yet this new religion he created completely destroyed the chance and skewed the religion forever. i don't think god is quite happy with his son right now. I don't doubt jesus was gods son i just don't think he did what he came to earth to accomplish. he didn't even create this new religion if you know its history one of his followers did, and then his followers rewrote the whole religion. So now jewish people are still being persecuted along with witches who aren't evil and many other religions which god has no problem with, he created the deities he was bored, he created evil, it was so that the world wouldn't be soo boring.
Anything and everything is possible, it's just most people don't try hard enough!!!
