Shining Heights is a Weyr situated on a large island south of the Southern Continent. So it is mostly isolated from the rest of Pern, since not many sailors venture out to the island, named Recaina Isle, named after the woman who started the weyr. But since this weyr was so isolated, the dragon colors started to change somewhat. Mutations were hatched, but not many have survived so far, and there are still new colors occuring every hatching.

But the history of the weyr is dark. Once it was founded, everyone rejoiced, except for one person, Keli of Gold Alokith. She thought she deserved all the acclaim that was being given to Recaina. So, only months after Shining Heights creation, Keli murmdered Recaina. The whole weyr was woken by the keening call of Recaina's golden dragon as she went between, never to be seen again. For that, Keli was exiled. And a few other riders went with her, believing Keli was right. And so the weyr went on, the Jr. Weyrwoman rising to Sr.

But Keli wasn't through. She wanted her revenge. And the weyr should be hers! She and her group of dragonriders moved to the cliffs in the mountains that were on the large island. And when her numbers were enough, she would strike and gain Shining Heights once more.
