In the land of Belloren, magic is the law of the land. Every creature large or small relies on some form of magic in order to survive. Humans and dwarves use it to power their industries, their cities, and their airships. The elves use it to grow great forest cities and create living buildings out of great trees and to extend their lives far beyond those of the other races. Though no true government rules over the land, the peace is kept through the efforts of a single mage: the Grand Magician. The Grand Magician is nearly omnipotent, yet never uses magic except when a matter truly calls for it. The current Grand Magician has begun to feel the effects of age creeping on, and has called for a new one to be chosen. Thus begins the Grand Tournament, an ancient method for choosing the Grand Magician that not only pits contestants from across the land against each other, but also against the shadows inside themselves. Because of the great event, festivals and fairs are now rampant in every major town and city in celebration. Yet, underneath the splendour a great shadow lies in anticipation, waiting for the oppurtune moment.
