"Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."
"The dog did nothing in the night-time."
"That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes.
-An excerpt from 'The Adventure of Silver Blaze'.
This is perhaps one of the most famous quotes of Doyle's Holmes canon, and a prime example of the typical Holmesian explanation: brief, vague, and not in the least bit explanatory. It also gives but a single glimpse of the colossal, subtle genius of the man, a man whose very existence the history books deny.
We - the Baker Street irregulars, Scotland Yard police detectives, clients, acquaintances and friends of the great detective - We - the faithful readers, the British people at large, for whom Holmes is nearly as great a cultural icon as King Arthur - and now we - the members of Holmes, Sweet Holmes, the only guild dedicated to the Master - know better. Holmes is more real than any of us could ever hope to be, because he exists in the realm of the Immortals - the realm of Imagination.
It is our purpose here to honour the man, to argue his virtues and downfalls, and to clarify points on which the uninformed public may be uncertain.
This guild is for those who can intelligently discuss Sherlock Holmes, as the man himself would wish to be discussed. Please spell correctly, use proper grammar and punctuation, and try not to use any language that would be considered inappropriate by the stiff-collared Victorians.
