A Reluctant Killer

He vanished before her attack could hit him, reappearing a meter behind her. His arms were crossed over his chest, eyes on her. "Hm... You're no ordinary mage. But you don't seem to be using your full power." He smirked. "You do realize you're making it that much easier for me to kill you?" Her attack hadn't even grazed him. His wings rustled slightly behind him. He knew that Irene could pick up on his emotions; he hadn't been sleeping inside Niko the entire time, after all. He wasn't deaf. But he didn't care. The only emotions coming out of him was anger and hate, and a tinge of curiousity for this new type of magic he hadn't encountered before. He was fooling with her now. But it was unclear how long this would last, untill he got bored and decided to kill her.

Bana looked up at the horse wide eyed. "I've never actually ridden a big creature," Bana said as stared at it in awe at getting the chance to ride. Then Bana looked down at the ground then back up at Yuki confused. “Did I do something wrong? Is that why Mister Niko and Miss Irene aren’t here?” Bana asked.

Yuki's heart ached at Banas words. She crouched down on eye-level with the child, one hand on her shoulder. "Don't ever say stuff like that, okay?" She said softly. "No ones mad at you, you didn't do anything wrong. Niko and Irene had something they needed to take care of, that's all. Don't ever think that it's because of you."

Shadow didn't even try to dodge. He let the fire strike him, engulfing his body completely. He raised one hand, the fire darkening to black. "Not bad, I suppose. It's your energy, let me give it back!" The fire left him, collecting in front of him. He sent the black flames right back at her. Apart from a slight burn around his fingertips and arms, he hadn't been injured.

(( *nervous laugh* Sorry if he seems a bit godmoddish. I purposely designed his character that way to make up for Niko's lack of power, and his own extreme sensitivity to healing magic. He's supposed to be very, very strong. I have been using his character for five years, and I can count on one hand how many people have actually been able to equal or master his power, and still have plenty of fingers left over.))

His eyes narrowed slightly, glowing. "Why should I have to explain myself to you?" Shadows swirled in front of him, so she collided with the solid shield instead of him. He watched her through the semi-transparent darkness. "I searched for nearly a decade for a body that could contain my power without rotting from the inside out. This boy meerly happened to be one of the few who could remain alive with me inside him. And this is for his own good." There was a soundless explosion, the darkness forcing Irene back.

Shadow smirked slightly, watching her. "Try all you want. I'm not leaving this body until I get my own back. That girl Yuki has already had the best exorsists look at Niko, and none of them could get me to leave." He raised one hand palm-up, a globe of red energy gathering at his fingertips. "Are you done talking? I am." He darted towards her so quickly he appeared to have vanished again, the red light covering his claws as he lashed out at her.

Bana looked up at Yuki hoping she was telling the truth. "Okay..." Bana looked back up at the horse. "So where are we going again?" Bana asked as looked along the path not remembering which way they came from or were going.

Shadow's eyes glowed red. So, this was her full power... He unfolded his wings, and became airborn, avoiding the spikes from the ground easily. Black globes appeared in his hands and he held them out to the ice shards and fire. Both were absorbed into the darkness he held effortlessly. The wind cut through his skin, but he repelled most of it with pulses of dark energy. He had reached quickly, as if predicting the attacks before she executed them. He landed back on the ground. Blood dripped from a cut on his cheek, and from two on each arm. One pant leg was also slightly torn at the knee; he hadn't been able to dodge the wind attack as well as he had the others. He swiped at the blood on his cheek with the back of one hand, watching the girl. "Is that it?"

Yuki looked down the path. "Let's go towards the village Irene was taking us to. I know the basic path there." She smiled, then picked up Bana gently and placed her on her mares saddle. "Here," He said gently, picking up the reigns and giving them to Bana. "Hold onto these tightly." She adjusted the bootstraps on the sides; Bana's feet wouldn't be able to reach them completely, but she'd still have something to rest her feet on. "Let's go, okay?" She started off down the path, gently gripping the end of the reigns to lead her mare down the path.

Shadow watched her collapse, red eyes emotionless. He went over to her, crouching down beside her limp body. "Hm... She seems human enough like this. But that power..." No one had yet been able to injure him, not even the meager amount of bruises and cuts she had given him. He smirked slightly. "This might be interesting..."

He shifted a bit away from her, his eyes slowly closing. He'd leave her alive for now. She might prove to be entertaining. The feathers in his wings turned pure white, before vanishing into his back. Eyes faded into a normal grey, as his fangs, claws and horns retracted back into his body. His midnight black hair turned the color of snow, and Niko collapsed on the ground, unconcious.

Niko stirred slightly a moment or two later, sitting up shakily. "Wha...?" He looked around in confusion, then saw Irene beside him. His memory came back in a flash. "Irene!" He scrambled to his knees, quickly checking for her pulse. Finding it, he sighed in relief. Shadow hadn't killed her. Normally he would ask why, since Shadow had never spared anyone before, but he was too relieved now.

He stood up, and carefully pulled her onto his back, carrying her down the path Yuki and Bana had taken.

Yuki looked oveer at the old man in suspicion, then nodded. "We know her. She's just back in the clearing over—" She turned to point back where they had come from, only to pause when she saw Niko walking towards them, carrying Irene on his back. There was a cut on Niko's cheek, and a few along his arms as well. "Niko!" She ran over to him. "How's Irene?" She asked. Niko appeared to be still stunned that Irene was still alive.
