[RP] The 'Verse (Accepting profiles)

"Yeah I know. It will be special olympics. You can ride in the wheelchair if you want. It just makes it fair for the rest of us. You know, technically speaking, basketball is a no-contact sport." Aria judged there was just enough coffee for a single mug full of it, placing the hot mug and steaming contents into Jaden's hand. "Sit down, drink that. It's strong..."

Jaden's snort at the thought of basketball as a non-contact sport was more eloquent than any attempts at communication had been previously. However, ze did take the coffee from Aria and inhaled deeply from the steam before wincing at the sudden stabbing pain the action brought. It was indeed strong, but Jaden decided against sitting down to drink it. Ze leaned against the counter and carefully took a sip.

"Well it's supposed to be. All sports are contacts sports with you. Sugar?" Aria offered the small container of sweetener with a smile. She watched the since with concern but didn't say anything, green eyes just following hir facial expressions.

On the stovetop the water started boiling and Aria poured some of it over green tea for herself and black tea for Jaden. Without fail, she prepared it in hir favorite fashion, drawing from a long list of how everyone she'd ever made tea for preferred theirs.

For a moment Jaden stared blankly at the container while still sipping at the coffee. It was almost as if one could see the gears slowly turning in the muscle's head, slowly starting to move faster as more caffeine made it into hir system and more of the medication that had been slipped into hir tea earlier wore off. Eventually ze reached out and carefully spooned sugar into the coffee before returning to blankly sipping it.

"Not just me." Jaden finally said a minute later.

"No there are plenty of muscle-bound fools who like to beat each other senseless in sports," Aria said this with a smile that implied not only was that a compliment, and that Jaden was her favorite of the muscle-bound fools.

"Jaswinder said that," It was unusual for Aria to lose track of what she was saying but Jas had said (and not said) more than a few things that made it a little hard for Aria to sort out all her thoughts. Stupid Jaswinder. "Uhm that we needed to celebrate Fayra joining the crew, Jin-li coming back and steady work."

"Doc okay it?" Jaden grunted after a moment of thought, hir mug now more than half empty.

Ze wasn't on painkillers and Jaden saw no reason why drinking would be a problem, but there was no telling with this new doctor. Or whether or not Fayra would even be interested in a party. As it was, Jaden knew that Jin-li would probably hang around for a bit before disappearing off into the hidden passageways of the ship, only reappearing later to hang out once it had gotten drunk out. She seemed to find drunks extraordinarily amusing.

"I'm going to run it by her in a few minutes," Aria answered Jaden's question and refilled her cup at the same time. Once, jokingly, Aria had reassured Jas that if transport and companioning ever went out of style, she could make a killing as a waitress. "So get woke up, hun, some food might help too."

She shifted, green tea with a tiny bit of sweet in her hand and leaned up to kiss Jaden's cheek (feeling a little guilty about not kissing Jas') (Stupid Jaswinder) and walked from the room. After a conversation with Fayra, the party was given the green light under the agreement that Jaden did not drink too much.

"Jin-li chan, we're drinking tonight!" Aria stuck her head into an open panel in the wall, hoping she wasn't just shouting at no one.

Jaden answered with a grunt as ze leaned down automatically so that Aria could kiss hir cheek. Then ze went back to sipping from the cup and staring off into space. After a few moments Jaden moved to sit back on the couch, cradling the mug and occasionally sipping from it.

Mere moments after Aria's announcement a panel in the ceiling moved aside and Jin-li's head and shoulders popped out. The mechanic dangled upside-down for a moment before grinning.

"Kay-kay. Why?" She chimed.

Aria smiled up at Jin-li, it was hard not to smile when the energetic mechanic popped out of nowhere. If Aria had half that energy...

"Well, for one thing we're happy to see you. We're also happy to have a good medic aboard too. And steady work is always worth celebrating. So make sure you show up for the food at least, okay?" Aria tugged on a loose bit of Jin-li's hair just enough to be playful.

When Jin-li's head disappeared back into the ceiling, Aria stopped at the bridge and let Jas know that the gathering was on as well. Then she went to get ready. Even for an event on her own ship, Aria preferred to look her best.

Somehow it had been agreed that they would have dinner and then begin the celebration, everyone drifting toward the common room as they would normally. (or perhaps a little early out of excitement or slowly out of dread) Fayra was still in the same clothing she had been in before but with a clean blouse in a soft blue colro. Aria had put on a blouse and skirt combo that looked enough like it had just been something she'd thrown on.

Jas hadn't bothered dressing up for the party with the exception of the fact that she had decided to wear a vest over her shirt. As she walked into the room she called a greeting, paused to pat Jin-Li (Who had prepared for the occasion by attempting to wash her face and hands.) on the head and kissed Aria's temple before taking her usual seat. While Jaden finished cooking she poured out a hefty libation of moonshine for everyone and began passing the cups around.

It hadn't been long after Aria left that Jaden finally woke up and finished hir mug of coffee. Ze contemplated the menu for dinner before deciding to break out some of the things that ze and Fayra had managed to buy as well as a few things that Jaden had stashed in the past. The ship's muscle had almost finished dishing out the food into serving plates by the time people started wandering in.

"Hey cap." Jaden called in reply, bringing out the first of the dishes as Jas walked in with the dish in one hand and a half-empty bottle of beer in the other. "Aria, doc. Dinner's almost ready."

Idly, Fayra wondered if and when she would graduate to be called by name rather than her title with Jaden. She settled in what had ended up being her seat, remembering their failed attempt to buy her a plate on Sihnon and being glad that there was enough to go around regardless. She sniffed the alcohol curiously but didn't quite drink any yet.

Aria slid into her seat near Jas, patting her captain's knee beneath the table lightly. "I take it we're going to be okay on autopilot for a while?" Of course they were. They would and could be more often except that Jas was a worry wart. "Dinner looks delicious, Jaden. Smells wonderful." She, unlike Fayra, took a drink from her glass. It was better if you didn't smell it first

"As okay as I'd be willing to call it." The tall blonde nodded before taking a healthy sip from her own glass.

A moment later Jaden brought another pair of bowls to the table, leaving them in the center. "Thanks, Aria."

Before heading back into the kitchen for a large bowl of rice, which was the last of the dishes, Jaden leaned over to kiss the top of Aria's head. Then, a moment later, ze was depositing Jin-Li in a seat with one hand and putting the rice next to two of the dishes. Ze had made a plate of bao, mabodofu (Which was mostly disguised protien) and chow fun (Which even had some re-hydrated vegetables to go with the noodles and chunks of protien.). With that, Jaden sat next to Fayra and took a sip of hir moonshine.

"I meant to pick up some vegetables while we were on Sihnon." ze mused.

"Things happen. If our luck continues we may be able to pick some up here or there," Aria observed optimistically. She didn't think it would actually happen that way, but it was nice to hope. Her own plate already filled with her share of food, Aria then made sure Jin-li was getting enough.

"What is this?" Fayra asked about the mabodofu, indicating it after she had taken some. She knew better than to turn her nose up at food regardless of what it was. And it did smell good at least. Of course, sometimes it was better not to ask.

Chopsticks in hand, Aria started to eat, checking to make sure everyone at the table was getting enough of the essentials. They didn't get to eat well often and she liked to make sure no one held out because they thought someone else needed it more. Stupid people. Like Jaswinder.

"Mabodofu." Jaden grunted as ze scooped rice into a bowl for hirself. "Family recipe. We used to get it with peas and actual tofu on occasion when I was younger. Mostly this is just protein and a spicy sauce."

"Do peas grow in hydroponics?" Jas mused out loud as she bit into a bun. "Could be interesting to put in."

Meanwhile Jin-Li was helping herself to a pile of noodles while chewing on a mouthful of bao. The mechanic had yet to touch her moonshine and she was sitting surprisingly still for the moment. Well, surprising only if you didn't notice the way her feet swung back and forth under her chair.

"If we put more in, we're going to have to expand." Jaden grumbled. "I like vegetables, but I'm not giving up space in my bunk."

Aria chuckled, already imagining growing a pea plant on Jaden in hir room. Not that she would. "Peas take up a lot of space, they like to expand and climb." Was her verbal response.

Fayra finally tried her moonshine, taking an experimental drink and then setting the cup down with a thump. "Is that even safe to drink? Oh.. my insides are on fire." Not literally, but she made a face as though perhaps that was literal. Fayra didn't drink much and the moonshine was really strong.

"A toast." Aria announced, lifting her glass up in front of her. "To our new doctor. Long may she stay with us and keep us in good health."
