i know everything made me join gaia this morning and invited me in here, so, uh, hi?

I've liked j-rock for way too many years now (10+) and have little patience for idiot fangirl/boy blatherings. I like the music, go to concerts whenever I can when I go home (usually in Osaka) and try to have some fun getting others educated in j-rock artists besides the overly typical X Japan/Dir en grey/Gackt because I'm sick of people thinking that's all there is to j-rock.

Dir en grey is the greatest Japanese band ever and everyone should know that!

Hiya! My name is Yagi, and I think I'm gonna like it here...

I feel bad since all I know of J-rock are the major bands and such, but I'm more than ready to be introduced to joy of indies!! If anyone can suggest some really good indies bands, I'd love to hear some new music. Thanks!

Hello~

It's not that simple, really. Not just major vs. indies. More like, bands most non-Japanese fans know vs. bands they don't. (More commonly, viskei vs. nonviskei) I never know which bands are indies. I suck at these things.

So what's better in your opinion? visual kei or non-visual kei? To me they differ much more in look than in sound, but that's just based on the very little I know. sweatdrop

Better?
Visual is not a category. It's a characteristic.

Some bands are visual, some are not. All are rock, and all are diverse as hell.

I'm just saying, most new "Jrock" fans' idea of a non-visual band is L'Arc~en~Ciel. It just seems that all the bands they know are visual.

I know a few non-visual bands, but not many. sweatdrop Janne da Arc, Glay, and Luna Sea, for example.

I SO need to broaden my J-rock horizons. My lack of knowledge is almost shameful. sad However, I expect to learn a lot here from you wonderful people.
