So they hadn't seen him..at least, Yao hadn't..otherwise he wouldn't have said those words to Russia. Heracles truly had been wrong...those two really were much closer than he had ever imagined. Sighing softly, he walked back into the corridor, he once again scooped up the cat. Looking at Yao, he gently smiled. "I really am sorry...for putting you through this today, Yao..it was wrong of me. I know this may be too much to ask, but please...forgive me. And you were right about not having a rightful place...but that applied to me, not you. So, to show how sorry I am..here." The Greek walked towards the pair, and placed the cat next to China. "You said you liked adorable things..and I know you'll look after this cat well..don't worry, I have plenty more at home."

"I can stay upright on my own, Specs," Gilbert argued, but allowing himself to be helped into the taxi. He rested his head on the back of the seat and shivered again, slightly. He dimly heard the door shut and the aristocrat come around on the other side to get in beside him, but he was content to remain with his eyes closed.

"And you have my cell, too," he pointed out, referring to the jokingly stated kidnapping. "Call Bruder and make a ransom, then. If it's not Italy or the booze, he'd probably give you whatever you wanted just to keep me away from home..." he joked, knowing that his brother got upset with him, often, and would probably enjoy the break.

Yao was about to respond to Ivan's insecurity with another explanation, until Heracles reappeared. 'I... I... Why, Heracles?' He asked in a soft murmur, gazing up at the nation in confusion. 'I don't understand this situation... Anymore, aru... It's... You never explained. You're... Going back to Kiku.' Of course he was. Yao swallowed, shaking his head a little. 'Isn't Corporal Cat... One of your special cats?' He asked in uncertainty, wondering whether this was such a good idea on his ex-friend's part. It pained him to think of Greece as an ex-friend already, though it was true. For as long as Kiku did not want the Greek to be friends with Yao, then it would always be this way.

He looked down at the cat, swallowing. 'I... Surely, I can't... Won't he miss you...?' He glanced back up at Heracles, feeling a little light-headed. Where was this all going...?

Perhaps he should've gone later to the meeting after all.

----------

'Mhm.' Roderich was learning quickly to turn a deaf ear to the protests of independence from the albino, and instead decided to agree to whatever he said. Perhaps it'd make this less of an earache for him, he guessed, as the trip all the way back home was going to be a bit long... And all the more time for Gilbert to be a general nuisance. 'Whatever you say, Gilbert. I'll call your brother now, alright?' He took out Gilbert's phone, looking through the contact list. He had no interest in who was in the list, in exception to Ludwig, of course. 'What's his number under in this thing...? He asked, seeming as Gilbert had a range of names for his brother.

After a few moments of trying (having to scroll through the whole list three or four times) he found it, pressing the call button. 'I do hope he's not too busy with Italy...' He muttered as he waited for Germany to pick up, casting a glance at Gilbert before giving the taxi driver the destination; the airport.

"I..I don't really have a choice, Yao...I wish we could all be friends..but..." Heracles glanced nervously at Russia. Something about the man made him uncomfortable, although he was unsure as to what it was. "I..I don't want to be alone, Yao...and I know this breaks my promise to you, but..can we be friends? The Greek was still looking at Russia, his last question directed towards the both of them.

Ivan felt a shoot of jealousy rush through him and he replaced his smile smoothly, violet eyes once again calm and cold as they glanced up at the Greek. If what the man was saying was true, then it was him who put China in the sorry state he was in. And it made sense, with what he had viewed when Japan had shown up. A tinge of anger ran through him, but he didn't say anything. He simply decided to watch, giving Yao a curious glance as if to ask what he should do.

He left his one hand around Yao as if to comfort the Chinese man, while his other hand lightly ran down the smooth steel of his pipe. He could feel the chill of the metal through his glove and it was a comforting feeling. Anywhere that touched the Asian seemed warm, which was odd for him. He was always so cold, even in summer. It was...a nice feeling, he decided.

Gilbert gave Roderich a dirty look and turned away, muttering, "dare ******** ignore me, will ya?" He paused, finding himself distracted by looking outside at the falling rain. He shivered, still feeling dreadfully chill and wet.

He smirked slightly when Roderich was struggling to find Ludwig's number in his phone, knowing it was going to be a bit of a struggle. He used "Freund" to keep the number under, using a term he never said out loud. It meant "bro" in German, which was a term the aristocrat would never use. He chuckled softly as Roderich, after a few moments, finally found it.

Lost in thought, Ludwig worried over his older brother. It was uncharacteristic for him to simply vanish when the nations were getting together, due to him enjoying to behave like a general nuisance. And Elizabeta looked rather troubled, which also made him wonder. Usually, Gilbert would make sure she was happy. Well, at least something above upset. Instead, he was nowhere to be found.

The sharp ring of his phone brought him out of his thoughts and he reached out, glancing down at the screen. 'Speak of the Devil and he shall hear,' he thought, before flipping it open.

"Ludwig speaking," he answered, feeling concern twist in his stomach. Why would Gilbert phone instead of coming to talk to him in person?

'Now you're just being petty.' Roderich shot back in a dark murmur, luckily before Germany had picked up. 'Ah, Ludwig. It's Roderich.' He thought it best to introduce himself before the other nation got worried about the different voice on the phone. However, now that he'd picked up, the Austrian had no idea what to say. Whatever he said, he knew it'd sound unbelievable. 'Gilbert and I... Well. Uhm...' He felt his face flushing hotly at the embarrassment, knowing this was probably sounding worse and worse as the moments of silence passed.

'Gilbert's taken ill... He'd forgotten how to use an umbrella.' He couldn't help but grin a little. Perhaps it was a bit cruel to try and deliberately rile the ex-nation up a little, but it was a little amusing. Besides, if Gilbert reacted in the background, then Germany would know that he was fine... Ish. 'If anyone asks after us, will you please inform them that I'm escorting Gilbert to my home and will be unable to attend for the rest of the day.You can probably guess that he's not too happy about this situation but I'll be caring for him until he is well.' That didn't sound so bad, although Roderich's voice was a little shaky due to nervousness, his heart pounding.

----------

'Heracles... What about Japan? He's... You aren't alone when y-you're with him, aru.' The Asian pointed out in a softened tone, tilting his head a litle as he looked up at the Greek. 'I want dearly for us to be friends, but... The... 'Circumstances' prevent such a thing.' Privately, Yao did agree with Ivan that Japan was a little selfish, but he could understand where his little brother was coming from. After all, no one ever wanted to be alone.

He reached to place one hand over Ivan's other hand, wanting for the quiet nation to pause in the slightly-threatening behaviour. He didn't want for Greece to be intimidated by the Russian, and he wanted to prevent any sort of violent intentions. 'It's alright, aru...' he spoke in a soothing whisper, turning his head to smile a little at Ivan. 'Don't fret...' He glanced down, noticing that his hand was much smaller than Ivan's... So he doubted he'd be able to really prevent anything if the nation did decide that he wanted to begin a fight.

He looked back up at Heracles, frowning a little. 'You don't want this... Surely, you can't want this.' Yao wanted for the Greek to come to his senses. After all, being friends with Ivan... It would cut off most, if not all other nations from being friends with Heracles. And he was sure that the nation knew about japan's dislike of both him -Yao- and Ivan... so it was wholly a bad idea.

Gilbert flashed the Austrian a dirty look, scowling slightly. "I am not being petty," he argued, stubbornly crossing his arms. He watched curiously as Roderich struggled with what to say, not knowing how to just come out and tell Ludwig that he was sick and Roderich was going to take advantage of playing nanny to skip the meeting. Of course, he'd probably kill the Austrian if he even dared to claim being a nanny.

He tensed at the shot about the umbrella, face flushing even more than what was caused by the fever. "That's not ******** true and you know it, Specs!" he hissed, turning away to look back out the window and hide his blush.

Ivan watched curiously as Yao spoke, keeping his violet eyes fixed on the two nations talking in front of him. He felt a pang of that same jealously strike him when the Asian commented about dearly wanting to be friends with Greece and his smile tightened slightly, but in a way that wasn't noticeable unless one looked for it. He didn't want to be friends with the Greek. That meant sharing Yao and that was something he would be unable to do. Selfish, but he just...he didn't want to be left alone again. If China had no friends other than him, than there was no reason to leave, right? But...then China would be upset. Ivan didn't want that, either.

He tensed when warmth hit the back of his hand and he glanced down, staring at the fingers that stood out against his dark gloves. It halted the almost upset movement of his hand and he looked up at the Asian. "Ah... fret?" he repeated, not knowing what Yao meant. Was he upset? He... he didn't think he was. At least, not outwardly. Why would China think...? Was this 'best friend' someone who was able to read the person they cared about and trusted? Perhaps...perhaps he did not understand what a 'best friend' was.

Ludwig felt confused at why Austria was calling him on Gilbert's phone. "Roderich?" he questioned softly, his confusion evident in his tone. He listened as the man tried to explain, wondering why he sounded as nervous and embarrassed as he did. A flash of concern shot through him at the next words and he paused. "Ill? Umbrell..." he trailed off, giving a soft sigh. "May I speak to him, bitte*?" the German finally requested, feeling stress taking hold of him again.

'He took the umbrella. Why wouldn't he use it?' he thought, pinching the bridge of his nose as he felt another Gilbert-induced headache coming on.

At the mention of Japan, Heracles closed his eyes to hide the anger that had sprung up within them. The Asian nation that he'd grown close to...he felt betrayed by him. Kiku had made it seem like it was him - Greece - that had betrayed him..but was trying to make friends really a betrayal? Opening his eyes once the anger had faded, he looked down at the pair. Russia seemed..more tense than before. Something in his face had changed, and it didn't look like a good thing. He could see Yao was trying to comfort him, and more stirrings of guilt rose within him. Looking at the Russian, Heracles decided to lie. He didn't enjoy lying, but in this case, it would save Yao anymore pain.

"I guess you're right, Yao..I'm not alone when I'm with Japan." Still looking at Russia, the Greek continued. "I will go back to Japan..I..I guess I don't really have much choice." Heracles froze. 'Damnit..Why did I say that last part?' Frowning slightly, the Greek attempted to recitify himself. "No, I mean..I should go back to Japan, it's the best option.." Heracles really was no good at lying. He was certain that Yao would have seen through it, and that would only cause him more pain. The Greek finally looked over at his friend, waiting to see his reaction.

'Quieten down, Gilbert.' The Austrian scolded with a frown, unable to help himself glaring a little at the ex-nation. However, his attention turned back to Ludwig at the request, and he agreed. 'I suppose it's best if you do. I'll pass the phone back over. Gilbert?' He turned towards the other man, holding the phone out. 'Ludwig wishes to speak with you.' he glanced out of the window to check their progress, vaguely remembering the route... And the sign that stated that the airport wasn't too far away now did help him a little. 'Not too long now. If Gilbert could keep himself occupied with... Sleeping or something, perhaps I could get a little peace on the plane.' It was a faint hope, the Austrian realised grimly, figuring that the ex-nation wasn't going to make this easy for him at all.

If it'd been anyone other than Gilbert...

----------

'I... Alright.' There was nothing more that Yao could say. How else was he meant to respond to this sort of situation? It was nearly impossible to think. 'Yes... It... It's for the best, aru... For the best.' He repeated, more or less as a reassurance to the both of them rather than just the Greek. 'You will... Inform Japan that... I apologise for the misunderstanding, right?' He requested of Heracles quietly, lowering his gaze so that he did not have to look the man in the eye. Right now, Yao could only hope that Heracles did go back to Japan... so that their relationship wasn't torn to shreds. yao did not want to be the cause of such anguish... And it certainly wouldn't help his own shattered relationship with Kiku either. In fact, Yao was certain that nothing could help with that anymore. 'It'll all be alright in the end, Heracles... I... I promise that, aru.' He looked up at the Greek when uttering those last few words, swallowing with a firm nod. 'For now... Kiku will want to know what you have decided.'

Yao looked back at Ivan to assure the man that he'd not forgotten him. 'Fret... Means to worry or be... A little upset.' He murmured, voice soft and quiet as he explained. 'It's alright, It'll all be alright, aru...' It seemed to now become his stock phrase. He supposed that if he repeated it enough, he'd believe it himself eventually. 'I want to sit here with you, Ivan. I do.' He offered assurance, finding it difficult to hold two conversations at once in this awkward atmosphere... There was surely no way it could get worse.

So the lie had worked, thankfully. Upon hearing Yao's request, he nodded down at the nation. It was only when he was turning away that he heard the Asian's final sentence. He was promising him that? How could he possibly keep that promise? Nonetheless, it did make te Greek feel better. "Yao..you don't have to promise me anything..I don't deserve it..I just..I hope you can forgive me for breaking my promise again..but..I just don't want to cause you any more pain." With those final words, Heracles returned to the conference room.

"Kiku-kun..?" Speaking softly, the Greek stood nervously next to Japan's chair. "I...I'm truly sorry for hurting you..I should have considered your feelings before my own..I was...selfish. Can you forgive me?"

Kiku was ashamed of himself at how hurt Heracles looks, but was lying through his teeth when he said he was being selfish. In all honesty, Kiku knew that he was the one acting selfish. He just...didn't want to be alone like he was when he spent two hundred years in isolation. Straightening up, Kiku put his hands in his lap and looked down, refusing to look Heracles in the eyes.

"If anyone should be asking for forgiveness, Greece-san, it should be me. I was acting selfish and not taking into consideration your feelings about the entire situation. I understand that you wish to have new friends and that me giving you an ultimatium was wrong. Gomen..."

Knowing that Heracles was going to be friends with Yao hurt, but at least Kiku knew that the Greek would be happy. That was what mattered the most. After all, Heracles taught Kiku how to trust again, which meant that the Asian nation was in debt to him because of that. Keeping Heracles all to himself made Kiku sound selfish and a soulless nation and he didn't want that.

"...I think...that you should go and be friends with China-san," Kiku said gently, looking up at Heracles, "You have your own free will, Greece-san, and I shall not take it away from you...We will still be friends..."

"It will hurt..." Kiku thought to himself, "But at least he'll be happy...they'll both be happy..."

Despite what people though, Kiku, although he did hate Yao with every fiber of his being, did have a soft spot for the nation because, after all, Yao did raise him, Taiwan, and Korea. He knew that Yao and Ivan had a good relationship, maybe even surpassing friendship, but that shouldn't stop Yao from making friends. Kiku knew that Yao wanted to make amends with him, but Kiku wasn't ready for that just yet. He still had to prove he was a strong nation, stronger than China, and to do that, Kiku reasoned that he had to do it alone. Conjuring up a fake smile that he knew no one could see though, Kiku gently made shooing motions with his hands, telling the Greek to make amends with Yao. He knew that once Heracles had made peace with the Chinese man that there would be no going back and that Kiku would have to treat him the same way he treats Yao and Ivan. Solitude changes a person and it was that sense that Kiku realized that the only person he could truly trust was himself. Crossing his arms once again, Kiku rested them on the table with his chin resting on his arms. He was alone again, but at least this time, he knew that his loneliness was due to his own selfishness.

"Better to be alone than in pain," Kiku thought tiredly, "Friends are so painful to have"
