Arthur sighed and closed his eyes for a moment, noticing how loud the room was becoming again. "I have gone through isolation, Kiku," he pointed out, voice soft. He opened his eyes and glanced over at Alfred again, glad that he was daydreaming and probably wouldn't hear him.

He shook his head and forced a slight smirk on his face. "Beside, it's not as if it really bothers me," he added, shrugging. "I'm fine with being alone." His pride didn't want him to show weakness, so he was unable to relent to admitting he was lonely. Especially not in a room as full as it was.

Closing his eyes again, he sighed. "I need a cigarette," he muttered, catching himself before using the slang. Outside of the United Kingdom, most people took the term f** the wrong way. He got to his feet and stretched, glancing over at the Asian as if to see if he wanted to join him. Not for the smoke, but for the chance at fresh air and a quieter setting.

Kiku smiled at Heracles as he headed off to talk to Yao and Ivan. Hopfully, that ended well. When Arthur subtly hinted that he was going outside to get out of the noisy room, Kiku followed suit, standing up and nodded at Arthur.

"I will join you, Arthur-san," Kiku smiled, dusting off his pants, "However, I do not smoke, so I will just accompany you."

Honestly, Kiku didn't know that Arthur had gone through isolation. He was certain that it was just him and his Asian counterparts that had gone though it. Sighing, Kiku realized that he had a lot to learn about the outside world. Keeping within his nation and just learning about the others now was certainly taking a toll on Kiku's knowledge of the world.

"Perhaps I am looking at this the wrong way," Kiku thought as he followed Arthur, "If isolating myself caused me to have no knowledge of the other nations, perhaps befriending them might increase my knowledge."

Grabbing his military jacket off the back of the chair, Arthur pulled it on as he walked, patting down the pockets in search of his cigarettes. He was stepping into the hall when he froze, and then glanced over his shoulder at Japan. "My cigarettes are in my office, Kiku. We'll have to go there first," he admitted, looking slightly sheepish. He forgot that he had his smokes in his jacket pocket, not the military coat pocket.

He started walking toward his office, glad that it wasn't too far from the meeting hall. It was also closer to a more secluded smoking pit, rather than the one he was planning on going to.

Walking down two halls, he came to his office. It had a plain brown door with a bronze name plaque that read Kirkland on it. He pulled out his keys, unlocked the door and pushed it open, stepping into the pitch black room. Arthur flicked on the light switch and walked over to the coat rack, searching the pocket of his jacket. The worker had taken his umbrella and coat to his office after he had given it to him.

Grabbing his cigarettes, the Brit put them in his own pocket and walked over to the desk, checking the papers on it. He hadn't been there in a couple days and was curious about the work that may have piled up.

Kiku followed the British man to his office, but waited outside for him. Resting his back against the wall, Kiku stood and thought about the day's already occuring events. He was certain that Heracles and Yao would be friends and, if not, that Heracles would be content that he at least tried. Kiku had become closer -somewhat- with Arthur, so that was a step in the right direction.

"Although I often wonder why my thoughts keep wandering back to America-san," Kiku thought to himself while standing, "Did he not hear a word of my conversation with Arthur-san?

In all honesty, the Amercian nation confused Kiku to no end. One minute, he'd be completely focused on the topic at hand and the next, he would be daydreaming. Shaking his head, Kiku thought himself childish to be thinking so hard about Alfred and that he had no true close connection with him. He best focus on making Arthur feel better and to make him turn away from going into isolation again.

"Isolation..." Kiku thought sadly, "Is a very lonely concept...Why I was isolated myself for two hundred years...I still do not have the answer for that...."

Noticing the mess of papers on his desk, Arthur pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes, sighing. He glanced over to his door, noting that Japan hadn't come in. "You may come in, you know," he pointed out, grabbing a stack - if it could even be called a stack, what with the papers sticking out every direction.

Calmly, he started to sort the paperwork, noticing one crucial little thing as he did. These were passed off to him by someone else, someone he'd rather not have to deal with. "Why can't you do your own paperwork, Islay?" he muttered, shaking his head. He carefully got the paperwork into neat stacks and he glanced around the desk for any indication that his older brother had been sneaking around in his office. He quickly spotted a note.

'I'm going to be gone for the next week. Ciaran invited Finnian and I over to his place for a family get together. Blonds are not invited. Shame that Ellis is blond. We would have enjoyed his company. Anyway, do my paperwork. I didn't get around to it and the Queen is already mad at me. So, do it. Or else.

Love, Islay

PS: Took a bottle of Scotch from your desk.'

Arthur crushed the paper in his hand, glaring down at the desk. "That b*****d," he hissed, tossing the note it the garbage can.

{Edit: I hope nobody minds, but I used the OC's my friend and I made for England's older brothers. Islay McRae = Scotland, Ciaran O'Connell = Ireland (Republic), Finnian O'Connell = Northern Ireland, and Ellis Vaughn = Wales.}
PostPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 2:36 pm
Alfred opened one eye, then the other. He looked around like a nervous child. He saw no England and grinned.
"Yes! No more prissy England! Yeah!"He said in a stage whisper. He looked around once more, now sitting up. He wanted to talk, but then thought, 'I'm the hero! I have plenty of people who walk miles upon miles just to talk to me! I'll wait for one of them~' He thought happily sitting still.
He noticed his brother, Canada. He then shivered as he remember the last verbal beating he had gotten.
'I hope he isn't still mad about the whole maple syrup thing...' Alfred shivered again.

'A-ah... Nevermind, Ivan. It's nothing.' Yao knew better than to press on with a subject that seemed to get him nowhere in this case. He was partly relieved that Heracles had gone back to Japan, purely for the sake of the Greek man. After all, Yao knew quite well that Kiku could be a little... Difficult sometimes. Difficult perhaps wasn't the right word. Or maybe it was. For lack of a better adjective, Yao pushed the scenario to the back of his mind, hoping that it was all finished with. as much as he'd miss Heracles... This would be for the better. That is, until he -Yao- and Kiku were friends again... Then it would all be alright in the end. Or so he hoped.

The Asian was so deep in his thoughts that he did not notice where he was now sat. That is, until he went to speak with Ivan again and noticed that he was slightly elevated... And then figured out the reason why. His face flushed a deep red and his eyes widened to a considerable size. 'A-ah... Oh, Ivan, are... Are you comfortable like that, aru...?' He asked in a timid voice. In no way did he expect to ever be sat on this man's lap, not now or in the future... But it seemed as if the Russian had done it without a second thought.

He looked up as Heracles seemed to appear yet again, and smiled... Though it was tired, seemingly. 'Oh, Heracles... Feel free, aru.' He was wholly expecting for the man to come up with an explanation as to why they couldn't be friends anymore... However, Yao was now a little numbed to the situation, having suffered so much stress already this morning. He leant a little into Ivan, sighing quite heavily. 'I'm not exactly going anywhere, aru... And you're always welcome with me.' He smiled a little again, though he was dreading what the Greek had to say. He supposed it was a topic that had to be finally closed, so... Maybe it was best this way to get closure. best early and quick than too late and slow.

----------

Now that the phonecall was over, Roderich felt a little awkward. What exactly could he now say to the ex-nation? It seemed that he was very fond of his brother... A strange pang of something bitter hit him in his chest but he chose to ignore it, staring out of the window for a few brief moments. 'He sounded well... I'm quite disappointed that I couldn't speak for longer with him.' He spoke in an almost dream-like state, not really paying attention to what was out of the window at all. It was all a blur as the Austrian kept himself deep in thought. He needed to apologise to Elizabeta at some point, and needed to somehow make sure that Gilbert was both happy and well-behaved... Both of which, for the ex-nation, he supposed would not go hand-in-hand.

'We're here.' Roderich spoke after a little while, voice slightly tainted with strain as he abruptly got out of the taxi, running one hand through his hair to neaten it again from earlier. In addition, he took his glasses back out of his pocket, placing them back on the bridge of his nose with a dark sigh. He didn't feel so sure of himself anymore... Although Ludwig and Gilbert were brothers, so it was only expected... Roderich couldn't help but wistfully hope that Gilbert would one day talk to him in such a tone, or even smile a little with fondness in his direction rather than spite.

But alas, dreams were dreams after all. Of course, the plane was still on the tarmac -it'd not been that long since they'd landed, after all- and he knew that the request to return immediately to his home would be a little oddly-recieved, but it was necessary. And perhaps he would call Elizabeta later... And hope that she forgave him.

Today just certainly had not been his day at all.

Gilbert leaned his head against the seat, closing his eyes as a wave of dizziness passed through him. He shivered slightly, the wet clothing probably making his fever worse. "He's stressed," he replied to Roderich's comment about Ludwig, not mentioning that half of the problems his brother dealt with were caused by the albino. Maybe he should tone it down, a bit. For Ludwig's sake. No, he'd never be able to. It just wasn't in his nature.

He gave a slight sigh as the Austrian left the taxi after a while, getting out as well. He cringed when the rain hit him again, ensuring that his finally drying clothes became soaked again. He shivered, wrapping his arms around himself in a pathetic attempt to warm himself. Especially since he knew that he had a fever and should be trying to cool his body down. "I think I'm going to need medicine," he pointed out softly, not facing Roderich. The very fact that medicine would aid him was a shaming one, since it truly hit home just how human-like he was, now.

Ivan smiled, a tiny bit of genuine care entering the motion that was normally empty and cold. "Da. Is fine," he replied to the question of him being comfortable with the Asian sitting on him. The same odd, but nice, warmth filled him where Yao touched. He set the pipe he had been keeping on his lap to the floor, leaning it against the wall where it would be easy to grab if he felt the need to.

He glanced up when the Greek walked toward them, his smile emptying back into falseness. An irritation welled up inside him, but he pushed it down before any hint of it could be seen on him. He looked back down at the Asian when he leaned into him, feeling the warmth that small action brought. He really, really didn't want to share Yao with anyone. But...it wasn't up to him, he realized. It never was. He just pushed people away if he tried that. Like Ukraine. He missed his older sister. He didn't want to miss Yao.

'I supposed that you would. I'm sure that I can pick some medicine up for you once I have you settled at my home.' Roderich assured in a gentler tone, not wanting to start anymore fights. Not today, and not for a long while. 'As I stated before, Gilbert... I'll look after you.' He looked at the ex-nation, though his gaze drifted as he noticed that the albino was looking pointedly away again. He wished that he wouldn't do that, though he'd not ever vocalise that. It'd make him seem like some sort of lovesick girl... And the Austrian would not allow Gilbert to think of him like that. That would be humiliating.

After a few words with the attending staff, Roderich had managed to settle a plane ride home again. It was a comfort to be going home, though his hitch-hiker filled him with a slight sense of dread. He knew that the ex-nation probably was going to make this as hard as possible for him, so perhaps it was best to expect the worst.

'Come... the plane's waiting.' Roderich spoke quietly, his demeanor toning down to an almost catatonic state as he continued to think deeply about the ex-nation. 'Guests first.' He allowed, standing to one side in order to allow Gilbert access to the plane before himself.

"Thank you, Yao." Heracles smiled kindly at his friend, and his smiled continued to stay throughout his explanation. "I've spoken with Kiku-kun at length, and we came to an..agreement. The Greek frowned slightly. That didn't sound quite right...but no matter. His meaning was sure to become clear. "Kiku-kun..didn't see it as his right to decide who I should be friends with. He said..that I should talk with you, and tell you that it would not cause any more..issues, between the two of you, or any between the two of us, if we were to stay friends." Remembering what Japan had said after, caused the Mediterranean's smile to grow even wider, if possible. "In fact, Yao..Kiku-kun told me that he would..welcome this friendship. He thinks it might be a good starting point for you two to..work on your own relationship." Heracles finished his little speech, still looking positively down at the pair. He sincerely hoped that this would be enough.

'It has to be..'

Gilbert zoned out slightly as the rain pounded down on him, shivering weakly. He made a noncommittal sound at the comment about medicine. He'd prefer to have it earlier rather than later, since he could - and judging by how wet he was again, would - get even worse. He frowned slightly when Roderich claimed he would take care of him, glancing back at the man at the corner of his slightly unfocused eyes. "I don't need to be looked after," he muttered, shivering again. He knew he did. Someone always looked after him. When he was a child, it had been France looking after him because Germania couldn't be bothered to take care of a "demon child", which was what the German had called him due to his albinism. Afterward, his leaders tended to care for him. Then, Ludwig did. He didn't really count the time under Russia's control, but even then... Russia would sometimes help him out. Not often, mind you, but sometimes.

Gilbert frowned slightly and pushed those thoughts back, not wanting to dwell on them. "Yeah, yeah," he mumbled, walking onto the plane. Finding a window seat, he sat down and immediately leaned back with a slight groan. His dizziness was starting to come back.

It surely could not be that simple. Yao looked up at Greece reproachfully, though the look in his eyes was soon masked by a smile. 'Isn't that nice of him, aru...?' The tired Asian replied with a wistful sigh, hoping that it really was that innocent. He knew Kiku and knew that the nation certainly wasn't that quick at changing his mind on things to do with his own emotions... Though Yao knew he could barely see his brother's true feelings sometimes, he knew that Japan was not so shallow as to shift emotions at a whim. However, the Greek seemed to be happy enough when it came to this situation, so Yao supposed he should take what he was given and be thankful for it.

It still did not settle the unease in his stomach, especially at the mention of the tattered relationship between he and the other Asian in question. He stiffened, and fell silent for a few moments. He wondered whether Kiku had told Heracles why they weren't on such good terms anymore, and whether the Greek knew of the scar... It was something that Yao was very self-conscious about and to have the memory simply passed about like a party favour did wound him a little. It wasn't something he was proud to bear, after all. 'What did he tell you?' This was not a request. This was a demand, though it was still in a soft tone... The edge was sharper than before.

He found himself seeking solace in the arms of Ivan again, finding the consistency of the nation to be just what he needed at that moment. And, although it was a little too loving for a friend to do, Yao nuzzled into Ivan, heaving a heavy sigh. He hoped that Japan had said nothing... Nothing except that their brotherhood was hostile at best. Heavens forbid that Heracles knew too much.

----------

'' You are too stubborn for your own good, you know.' Roderich muttered as he followed Gilbert into the plane, sitting beside him. It was to keep an eye on the albino, and nothing more... Though he could presuppose that the ex-nation wouldn't trust him at all. 'You make it seem like looking after you is a priviledge. Try to get some rest... I'll get you the medicine as soon as I possibly can and no later.' Roderich had almost had enough of Gilbert already. If only Ludwig would forgive him for 'acidentally' letting the albino freefall out of the plane with no parachute... Perhaps it would stop the whining and stop the weird sense of bitter disappointment that he felt.

There was no need to jump to conclusions. His disappointment merely came from Gilbert's lack of any sort of gratitude, he told himself... Even just a half-muttered thank-you would have sufficed. However, getting abuse from his 'patient' wasn't something that the Austrian wanted to endure for as long as the illness would last.

It was now that he realised he knew nothing of fevers. How long they lasted, how to treat them, and the symptoms... He'd not had to deal with any of the like before. And not only that, the sufferer was Gilbert, which made him even less willing to learn.

'Please get some rest... And stop being so rude.'

Iceland ran out of the airport gasping for breath in the rainy smog. It was enough that they had not even talked to him the whole day, but know letting him fall asleep on the plane and not even bother to wake him up? now that was just rude. He clutched his Puffin Leif close to his chest and allowed his feet to move quickly and jump over puddles. he was about cached up before he slipped and crashed into Norway, Leif flying out of his arms and toward Finland.

"S-Sorry." he looked up to his brother and apologized. He picked himself from the ground and held his hand out to Sindre.

Pain briefly rose withing Heracles again when he heard the slight edge to Yao's voice..had he upset him in some way? Maybe he was trying to push himself into the Asian's life afterall..they had only talked for a short while..and he didn't really know anything about the nation from that. "I..Kiku-kun didn't have to tell me that there was some..hostility between the two of you..I was able to work that out by myself. As to why that is..it isn't my place for me to know..it is between the two of you, afterall.." The Greek looked nervously at the Chinese man, noting that he seemed to have become even more uneasy, judging by the closeness between him and the Russian.
