A Reluctant Killer

Mariah smiled. "Come then." Mariah pointed to the sky, and a dark stream shot through the air. Then she placed the necklace around her neck. Mariah waited for Bana to walk by her side. "There's so much yet to teach you."

Bana looked at the stream in awe then sped up to walk next to Mariah.

Niko clenched his free hand into a fist, then knelt and placed his palm against the ground. White light shot from him into the ground, and up ahead in front of Mariah and Bana a white shield sprang up, reaching the top of the trees and spreading in both directions to block their path. Niko stood up again, his hand still glowing. He held onto Irene with the other, seeing that her strength was almost up. "Bana, don't go with her! You can't just give yourself up like this!"

Yuki winced slightly. "Alright." When the bandits attacked, she released a portion of her magic into her arrow. Releasing it, the sacred arrow shot right through the pack of bandits, like one of Niko's energy blasts, destryong any the light touched. The light lit up the area. Yuki regained her calm and strung another arrow to her bow, attaching the same spell before firing again. It would use up more energy, but it would work alot better than normal arrows.

Niko looked up as the area above the village lit up a light blue, then faded, then lit up again. The light was barely visible through the trees. "That's... Yuki's magic..." She was attacking the bandits then. Mariah's 'word' not to harm Bana's friends apparently hadn't been extented to Yuki and the old man.

Bana looked back at Niko startled by the sheild that he made. "But, but if I dont...you guys will be hurt..." Bana said then spotted the strange light. "Whats that? Why is Yuki using her magic?" Bana asked unsure wether or not wanted the answer.

Niko carefully released Irenes hand, stepping forward. "I'm not going to let you leave with Bana and Irene's necklace," He said firmly. "If I have to fight you, then I will." He wasn't useless. Over the years, he had learned spells that wouldn't shed blood, but would definitely cause alot of pain. And he wasn't so bad at hand-to-hand combat. He'd be a bit more confident if Yuki was here to make sure Shadow didn't come out, but that couldn't be helped. "Bana, we're not going to let you just throw herself away like this. You're our friend too, remember?" He gave a child a smile that he hoped would reassure her, both his hands glowing.

Niko pressed his hands together, then apart. A white staff appeared in his hands, semi-transparent and glowing. It was formed from his energy, so it wouldn't break easily, and had no sharp edges that might cut. And since it was his energy, he would manipulate it easily into whatever shape he wanted. His eyes narrowed slightly, and he dashed forward with startling speed. He wasn't as fast as Shadow, but he wasn't slow. He swung his staff in a wide arc in front of him, the length extending at the last second to reach Mariah.

Bana moved away from them not sure what should do. 'James? Charm? Wait that thing she gave me' Bana dug through her pockets startled that it wasnt there. 'Where did it go? I didnt hand it to her...' Bana thought confused then looked up at Niko and Mariah.

Yuki clenched her hands into fists. "Whether or not your not going to hurt me, I'm not just going to let you harm the old man!" She gripped her arrow tightly and thrust back hard behind her, the arrow tip glowing light blue. At the same time, she stepped hard on the feet of the two bandits, trying to make them let her go.

Mariah braced herself for impact and fell backwards a bit. Her feet never leaving the floor. She clenched her teeth from the pain, but remained calm because she knew she had the upper hand. "Not bad. Let's seeyou handle this." Mariah raised both hands slowly, and the earth under Niko raised as well. "Now die!" Mariah clapped her hands together, attempting to crush Niko between two sides of the ground.

Niko glanced down at the ground, then slammed his staff into the earth, the length extending to launch him up and out of harms way. The earth closed on the end of his staff, then energy simply filtering through the ground to return to the portion of his staff still in his hands, the weapon rebuilding itself. He landed neatly a meter off from Mariah, and leapt forward again with a swing of his staff. This happened quickly; he wasn't completely human after all. He knew how to hold his own in a fight, as long as there was no bloodshed.

Yuki glanced over at the old man. "Don't talk like that, old man, you'll be just fine," She said, distressed that he was talking like his death had already been written out. "I'll tell her, but if and only if you die, which you're not." She drew out another sacred arrow, releasing it into the bandits midst, letting the light cut through any in its path. Drawing out another arrow, she stood in front of the old man, glaring at the bandits.

Bana watched the two fight unsure of what to do. 'Last time I used my weapon something bad happened....and if I get in the middle of their fight I might hit the wrong one....' Bana gripped her braclet as her child mind tried to think of what she should do.
