It was just silent, and cold.

It wasn't something she'd had call to be concerned about before, but Aria was pretty certain she'd freeze before her air was too depleted. And it was too dark to see if her breath was fogging.

That last thing she expected was Jas to catch her line and her whole body snapped like a ragdoll at the waist. Not that Aria had any complaints. By the time Jas had pulled her close enough, Aria wrapped herself around her captain as best she could manage with the clumsy suits on. Her mask was a bit foggy but she was quite clearly alive inside. Jas could hear without the aid of comms a combination of laughing and crying from inside. It didn't really matter who had caught her just yet. Just that she wasn't going to be space waste.

Jas would have pulled Aria close and held her until she had calmed down, however, she had managed to thoroughly tangle herself in the cable. That didn't stop her from attempting to say comforting things to the Companion, keeping it private between the two of them by turning off her comm's pickup. Meanwhile, Jaden grumbled in Chinese about crazy shipmates and the stupid things that love makes you do and how ze was never going to be so stupid as to fall in love or to do the same stupid things while reeling the pair in. There was also some grumbling about being the one with the broken ribs and having to do all the heavy lifting.

Ze had clamped hir legs around the line from ship to salvage ship and was winding Jas' line around the crowbar ze carried. Progress was slow, but Jaden was fairly sure that neither Jas nor Aria minded.

It took a while, but not the entire time they were being reeled in before Jas could coax any coherent words out of Aria.

"I'm sorry, I forgot to clamp back on. But I don't have any p-power, my boots should have kept on on the ship." Aria's voice carried to Jas through their helmets, audible only to the two of them.

"Not without power and not against the mass of a crate." Jas murmured after a few moments of thought.

She hadn't seen a particular reason to tell her crew what was in the crates. It wasn't anything dangerous, just valuable, and there were times when the less they knew, the better. That way, if the authorities picked them up and found their cargo, they could honestly plead ignorance of its contents. Sure, she would end up in trouble for it, but at least the others wouldn't.

"But Jin-Li and I will go over your suit when we're done. This shouldn't have happened."

"But I should have been clipped on and now you're going to kill me and never let me do anything interesting ever again." Aria was essentially babbling. The normally composed companion was shaken by what had almost happened. She was mad at herself for being stupid enough not to clip onto the line. She was mad at her suit for not working right. She was mad at the suit for being in the way right now too.

"I'm not going to argue with you on that. But I'm not going to kill you." Jas pointed out. "That would be ridiculously stupid."

A glance out of the corner of her helmet's visor told Jas that they were probably about halfway back to the ship. Somehow this trip seemed to be just as excruciatingly long as waiting to see if she had launched herself at the right trajectory to intercept Aria.

A shiver passed through Aria from head to toe, carrying through her suit to Jas even though the companion didn't say anything. She just wanted to crawl from her suit into Jas' at this point.

She was pretty sure that Jas wasn't even going to let her help finish with the crates.

"Are you mad?" Aria's voice was barely audible at this point. She was tired of shouting to be heard by Jas without the comm working. Most of the things she wanted to say weren't things you were supposed to shout at someone anyway.

Jas felt Aria shiver and suddenly remembered that the Companion's suit had no power. She had to be freezing in that suit.

"Of course not." the tall blonde replied to Aria's question before attempting to kiss her forehead. She would have been successful too, if it hadn't been for the pair of faceplates between them. Flicking her comm back on, Jas addressed Jaden. "Jaden, what's taking so gorram long?"

"Oh, I don't know, cap, maybe the fact that you're all the way the ******** out there and it's just me over here?" the ship's muscle grumbled in reply. "And unlike some folk, I'm not in so much of a hurry that I'm going to get my a** so tangled up in a line that I might as well have let my girlfriend tie me up."

"She's not my girlfriend!"

"Might as well be." Jaden grumbled. "Hold on. You're almost back."

A few minutes later, Jaden had managed to reel the pair in close enough to call it close. Once they were in, ze tucked the ball of cable wound around hir crowbar under hir arm and began inching along the line back to the ship.

Despite the fact that her comm wasn't working, Aria could hear Jas' half of the conversation but she didn't really have much to add to it. She just tucked herself against Jas in the vain hope maybe she would leech some warmth from the other woman. Her faceplate was iced over from her side so she couldn't really tell they were being pulled in. It it hadn't been for the wrenching stop when Jas had caught her she would have vaguely thought they were just floating out into space.

She did smile a little, whatever Jaden had said that had elicited the response about whether or not she was Jas' girlfriend may have been interesting.

After an excruciatingly long period of feeling Aria shiver in her suit against her, Jas saw that Jaden had managed to tow them back into the cargo bay. Once ze had secured them inside to a tied down crate, Jaden had started hunting through their bags of gear for a connector. Ze produced it triumphantly and slapped it into a port near the doorway before pulling Aria closer so ze could find the corresponding port on her suit. The initial designs for the ship didn't have an emergency suit recharging port there, but shortly after acquiring the ship, Jas had Jin-Li run a few out to the cargo bay, just in case.

Within a few seconds of Jaden plugging Aria's suit back in, her suit had power once again. It wasn't charging, but her comms and heat had power again. Jaden looked like ze was going to try to untangle Jas until the Captain decided it was best to do otherwise.

"Aria can do that, Jaden. Just get the crates on board then the beacons up. Leave them in the common room, I think." Jas ordered with a slight shake of her head that she knew Jaden couldn't see.

Once plugged in, Aria didn't have a particular drive to unwrap herself from Jas just yet. The fresh air helped clear her head a little and she started flexing her fingers in their gloves from their position behind Jas' back. Untangling could wait until she had feeling back in her fingers or she wouldn't be much good at it.

After what seemed almost too long a time, Aria finally shifted against Jas and lifted her head from where it had been snugged close against her. The inside of her visor was damp, the frosty haze melting to show a rather pale and shaken companion within.

Aria rather clumsily picked at the line tangling her up with Jas at first, since her hands were still becoming fully functional. She didn't unwrap her legs from around the captain though, even if it would have made untangling them easier than it was at the moment.

Jas was of the opinion that there were far better times and reasons for Aria to have her legs wrapped around the tall blonde. Like when her reasons weren't the reasonable and entirely practical fact that it was the best way to stay anchored to Jas in zero-gee with a malfunctioning suit while leaving her hands free right now. Or times when they weren't wearing suits. A lack of clothes period would have been nice too. Complicated, but a far better situation than right now.

One thing was certain, however. Aria was not going out on another jaunt with her and Jaden until Jas was sure that her suit was perfectly fine. Or that a third body was absolutely necessary. Truth was that they really could have used more crew. Passengers would have been nice too.

Watching Aria untie herself from Jas would have been much more interesting had the clunky suits not been in the way too. Like, when she arched her back just so, putting that should have been bosom very close to Jas' helmet while she got a piece of the line over her head.

"Jaden? Thank you for pulling us in," Aria's comm was working again finally, her voice was a little shakey through it, but it was very much her and very much alive.

Had the pair not been wearing the suits, Jas certainly would have gotten an eyeful if not an outright show. Upon realizing that she was thinking about it, she decided that banging her head against her faceplate was a good idea. However, before she could start she realized that all that would accomplish was smashing her faceplate into Aria's chest. Which would have been even more problematic.

And so, Jas settled for closing her eyes and waiting. For this was clearly the best solution.

"Part of the job." Jaden grunted as ze returned with another pair of crates. Boots thunked against the deck and the muscle arched an eyebrow at the pair. "You two should get a room. Probably with air."

"Mmm. And a heater. And blankets. And tea.." Aria thought about it with a smile.

Jas could close her eyes but she could still feel the shift of Aria's weight against her. It wasn't until Jaden was nearly done hauling in the crates that Aria had herself completely detangled from Jas. A part of her wanted to just remain wrapped around the captain, that was the part that was still in shock what had nearly happened. But another part knew Jas should go help Jaden. Instead of making a decision, Aria remained in Jas' lap, watching her face through their visors.
