While Sol would continue to give no response to Lt. Surge, utterly denying his ego the trip it so sorely desired. The door closing and sealing behind them was no surprise. Were this a less serious set of circumstances and not in a setting where anything done or said could and would be used against them, he'd have no qualms calmly requesting that the Gym Leader go hug a Cacturne. Being led off to a chair with Sub and Reno, even looking as Cruxias, their prosecution, introduced himself, he still said nothing and kept where he sat. There was, however, a brief bit of surprise when he saw Barbara, confirmation that she'd made it out of those ruins too. But almost certainly one that'd revel in the team's end.

Cera wouldn't quite have the same decorum. Beneath the good sense to keep her mouth physically and mentally shut was a constant glare at the boorish mannerisms and crowing from Lt. Surge. Despite Sub's attempt at assurance, the barrage of contempt from nearly everyone else and stray thoughts proving that they ran even deeper was already giving way to pangs of despair. Even if they "could do this," what good would it do when the whole world hated everything about you? Ein almost felt like a mercy by comparison. By the time she was made to sit, her eyes just trailed down, looking up briefly to see the people brought in to watch. She still said absolutely nothing, the pit of despair in her stomach only growing.

Both of them would get to their feet as the Judge came in, sitting down shortly after. On either side, Sol and Cera looked towards Sub and waited for whatever his opening statement would be.

---

"In case? If we're lucky, they might let us choose how we get to be executed. Probably the only show of friendliness the world has left for us," Amaranth remarked, deciding to sit near Aile. There was little she could do that wouldn't be noticed immediately, certain there'd be eyes on the skies. And the Sharpedo left behind by Cera would be far too obvious compared to Kayvaan, sticking out like a fish (literally) out of water.

She couldn't help taking a peek at Aile's SNAG, getting a glimpse of the blueprints she was looking at. "So... what kind of route are we looking at when it goes south? Or I guess if, but..."

Lykas and Odd walked together as the Snagems were paraded into the courtroom set up within Viridin Gym. Odd took note of those present, many unknown souls around them but a few familiar to him. Sadly none he knew for certain to still be on their side. One or two were questionable exactly where they stood but he was certain most of them were soundly against the existencee of Team Snagem at the moment.

Lykas watched those people, eyes narrowed with focus, as he tried to determine where they might stand or what they might be here for. Most, he felt certain, were simply counting themselves privileged to be in the room with the gallery when the judge finally called for the guillotine for the lot of them. He wanted to be confident Sub could get them out of this, as he usually did, but as must as he trusted Sub's ability to weasel out of danger, he didn't trust the justice system to not have accounted for every single possibility that might arise today and cut off their every attempt at such weaseling.

Both watched and listened as Surge continued to jab at them, clearly attempting to get a rise out of someone that could be used against them. It was a chore and half for Lykas to hold his tongue, for certain, but he managed it. Barely. As the jurors were led in, Lykas felt, for a brief moment, a sense of hope at recognizing some of those faces. Then that vanished immediately when he recalled some of those faces had only bad experiences that he could recall with the team. Others, however, had only good experiences or none at all, only having the stories presented to them by the media over the years. Upon seeing some of the faces that entered, however, he felt an immediate sense of, not joy, but hope. Some of those jurors had experience with individual Snagems frrom before the team had formed. He knew Oak, first hand, from his childhood at the Celadon Gym, for example. Wouldn't that call for a mistrial if it came to light? If he got the chance, he would be sure to bring it up. Maybe it would at least give them more time to fight this if so?

Odd could sense naught from the jurors but exhaustion and sense of ill-preparedness. None of them were ready to face this trial. Anxieties of all kinds clearly ran rampant throuugh the jury.

Both paused, listened with hushed breaths as Cruxias made his appearance and introduced himself to the three sat front row at the Defendant's table. Something about him made Lykas feel uneasy. Was this man truly able to be an unbiased prosecutor? It almost seemed as if he had a sort of reverence for Sub, in particular, but overall seemed to almost respect Snagem. Respect, however, did not equal unbiaseed, as both knew. As the man hobbled toward the precutor's bench, the pair let out a long breath they'd begun to hold at the same moment Cruxias appeared in his unblemished white suit. While Odd couldn't see the man's physical appearance, he could see his soul and felt the complete lack of any anxiety or fear. This man was fully confident in his ability to put them all away. As Cruxias stepped away to the prosecutor's bench and the judge entered, they stood with the others, returning to their seats a few moments later when bid to do so.

Much like the others, neither felt confident in their ability to win today but there was no escaping the attempt at this point.

Sub would continue to pay no mind to Lt. Surge as he went about seating and situating people, the Snagem leader at this point already fully annoyed with the Vermillion Gym leader. While he scanned the room for something else to focus on while they waited that 'something else' would walk in, dressed in white with an accent that reminded him of a Kalosian farmer but with a Paldaen twist. Sub was familiar with such people, the Kalosians considered them 'ploucs', country bumpkins. Such people were typically employed in fishing, particularly for Clauncher, so it was interesting to see such a refined and educated 'plouc' this far out from the island swamps and working as an attorney no less. No doubt was this an interesting character but it hurt to look at him too long, his suit too white, his appearance too put together for his liking. It seemed correct they would get such a polite and proper man to prosecute them. Just by his first impression Sub could tell this man was everything he wasn't. Another insult upon his character, an intentional one no doubt.

The man in white would approach Sub and offer his hand for a shake, the Dark One obliging him, not because he wanted to but because there were other people watching who likely already had a distasteful opinion of himself and Team Snagem. "Oui... pareil..." Sub immediately replied to the man in white with a kind of distant tone, pulling out the Kalosian just for the man, arms folded as he took a defensive posture. "Yes, I go by Sub, thank you." He answered Cruxias, finding all this politeness to not only be off putting but fake. It wasn't until the 'white one' hit him with that last line of Kalosian did Sub confirm it was exactly as he thought. They were going to need good luck huh? Well Sub was often a lucky man so it was time to see if his lucky streak would continue so that he might disappoint this smug plouc, 'prosecutor' Cruxias.

With the white one no longer bothering him Sub could focus on the jurors as they came in, noting the looks on their faces. Shortly after they entered the judge would enter as well, the famous administer of justice, Jenny the First. Sub immediately rising for her without delay out of true respect for the woman. This was perhaps the first bit of hope he could find in this situation as Jenny the First was well known for her fair and just decisions, however even she was bound by the decisions of the jury. She no doubt had the troublesome task of finding a way to both administer fair justice and to give the blood thirsty masses what they wanted. In spite of his own situation he did feel a hint of pity for Jenny the First, she was a good woman, a rare gem in the so-called 'justice' system.

"If it's okay with the court I prefer to be addressed by the name Sub, your honor." Sub said as he stood up, adjusting his vest slightly as he fixed his clothes and posture. With that out of the way he took a deep breath. This was it, his moment, his chance to make a good first impression. Glancing at the jury out of the corner of his eyes he knew he needed to leave a good impression on them if he had any chance of getting out of this mess. Over the last ten days he had thought long and hard over what was he was going to say, filled many a sheet of paper with words only to crumple them up. Preparing a speech ahead of time just wasn't his style. No, Sub was a man of passion and spontaneousness. The point of all this was to prove to them he was a good person, innocent of these crimes, and to do that he needed to show the jury the real him and not the demon he has been painted as. He had to speak from the heart.

"Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the jury..." The Snagem leader started as he turned to face the jurors, stepping out from behind his table. "I am Sub, just Sub, and I am the leader of Team Snagem. I am here today with my fellow teammates and friends, representing myself and them in this case. We, the defendants, stand here today wrongly accused of outlandish charges such as conspiracy, terrorism and even war crimes! No doubt these are awful, horrible crimes, but it is absolutely beyond comprehension that we, Team Snagem, are being accused of such evil acts." He began his speech in earnest. He needed to not just make them look good but also to make the charges against them to appear ill fitting.

"Now I'm sure all of you know a good bit about me and even more about Team Snagem at large. You've heard stories, seen news reports and I know some of you have had interactions with myself or my teammates at different points in time. Some more than others." He said, looking from Blue to Clair, giving them a weak smile of acknowledgement as he did. "As such you should know good and well the kind of selfless people we have proven ourselves to be. We have routinely risked ourselves, our very lives, to protect the innocent, Pokemon and people alike. From combating Cipher and their schemes, to meeting head on their cruel Shadow Pokemon project, then working to find a cure and administering said cure for the Shadow Virus that followed to even stepping up to the plate alongside the men and women from all over the world to meet Cipher and Flare in their war against the world! Snagem has proven time and time again their commitment to protecting this planet and everyone who inhabits it, no matter the cost. And not once have we ever asked for anything in return. Have there been times when others have rewarded us? Of course. Hoenn was one such grateful region, the first to give us the legitimacy I believe we earned, allowing us to not only legally operate in their region but also gave us a diplomatic office in one of their greatest cities, the heart of Hoenn commerce." Sub continued, looking towards Juan when he mentioned Hoenn, flashing a smile at him.

"What we do has never been for financial gain. Further to the point, if we were the monsters they claim us to be why would Hoenn give us such a gift? And it's not just Hoenn that had legitimized us in the past and rewarded us, but the majority of other regions as well. Why else would we be invited to participate in the World Champion Cup as one of the few non-regional teams? An event that took place in the aftermath of the World War as a way of bringing the world back together in peace and harmony. Doesn't sound like the kind of event you would invite alleged war criminals to if you ask me." At this point he knew to wrap this up, save some of his energy and ammunition for later, it was time to end on a good note.

"Team Snagem are your allies, your friends, your selfless heroes even, if I'm to be frank. We have wanted nothing more than to make a better, more peaceful world for us all. So ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I hope you keep in mind our countless good and selfless deeds when you hear what alleged crimes the prosecutor attempts to tarnish our good name with. When others failed to step up to the plate and protect the defenseless it was Team Snagem that filled in the void. I hope now that the roles are reversed you might return the favor. Thank you all for your time today." With that Sub gave a little bow and turned to return to his chair, giving both Reno and Sol a bit of a nod before turning to watch and see what mister prosecutor from the boonies would do.

While Sub was giving his opening argument a voice would suddenly begin to speak into Reno's mind, one he has heard before, though not exactly a friendly one. "So, how's it going in there?" The familiar voice said without warning or introduction. "I'm outside with the riffraff, I'm not exactly famous enough to earn a seat to observe the spectacle first hand. I did watch all of you enter the gym though, a lot of harsh words were thrown at you and your companions, huh? Oh, and if you're wondering how I'm talking to you this time, give yourself a pat down. I was close enough to scatter some spores on you. Don't worry, it's not like the mushrooms before, your little comrade made sure of that. Such a shame too, took me centuries to recreate that strain. Ah well, at least you were kind enough last time to teach me what 'channel' you mentally broadcast on, just needed to plant a receiver on you. Let me get to why I'm gabbing in your mind. Since I can't speak to him directly I'd like for you to extend my best wishes to the Dark One for me, that I'm rooting for him and if he makes it out of this he should consider seeking out the Cult for help with everything going on. His loyal followers might be able to provide answers and aid. With that said I'll be talking to you later, Reno." With that the voice would go silent. If Reno searched his person he'd find a very tiny mushroom on him, about the size of an eraser. Once removed the voice would no longer be able to speak to him.

Back in Viridian Forest...

Larrimore would watch as the other Snagems began to act on their own to prepare for when and if they would be called upon by their comrades to rescue them from the gym just south of their location. Aile would send one of her Pokemon to keep an eye out from the a vantage point just outside of the city, Camoflage no doubt would find a good location in the thicket of trees just behind the gym that separated the city from Route 2. Right now there wouldn't be much for the frog to see, just the masses of people still surrounding the gym but who knows, maybe it would catch wind of something eventually.

Larrimore would perk up at Cera's question, considering it for a moment as he considered it. "On my way out here I noticed a section of Route 2 that appears disconnected from the main road, a stretch of lightly forested land that allows one to avoid Viridian Forest entirely, however in spite of the gate in the middle it doesn't appear to be used often. No doubt SWIPE and other law enforcement are stationed at all the main checkpoints, like the one leading into Viridian Forest, however I didn't really see the same level of security at the off road gate. Looks to me it wouldn't be difficult to leave the forest and onto Route 2 just south of the gate, take the path all the way south towards Viridian City and then just pass through the small forest behind the gym." The Pinsir hybrid pointed out, revealing how much he scoped out this area in preparation.

"Does anyone have any agile Pokemon or any other...rapide Pokemon? Particularly one that can carry more than one person. If we do have to rescue our camarades we'll have to carry them out of the range of the teleportation scrambler which according to GRAY reaches just a bit into Viridian Forest, as such we'll have a good ways to go before we can safely teleport." Larrimore asked.

"More importantly..." He says, walking up to Aile. "Sub said you managed to acquerir the gym's blueprints, anything of interest that we could use?" He inquired with Aile.

Looking closer at the blueprints Aile would note several things of interest. One was that the spin panels inside the gym, were they still there, had two control switches to turn them on and off. One of them was pretty obvious, in the far back where the Gym Leader would stand and await a challenger however it appeared Giovanni had a secret switch instead for some reason, embedded in the right Rhydon statue at the front of the gym, requiring one to turn its horn a full rotation left, right and right again to turn on or off the panels. Perhaps so one could get through the gym without trouble with the panels. The other interesting thing was a hidden warp panel built into one of the spin panels, a north pointing panel on the right side of the gym. It appears it can only be used as a warp panel when the rest of the spin panels were turned off. As for where it led to it looks like a hidden tunnel underneath the gym that leads all the way to Diglett Cave north of Viridian City, just outside of Pewter City to the south. No doubt this is what they used to smuggle things in and out of the gym without being noticed.

With that Sub gave a little bow and turned to return to his chair, giving both Reno and Sol a bit of a nod before turning to watch and see what mister prosecutor from the boonies would do.

"Thank you Mist-Sub, for your opening statement." Jenny corrects herself midway through, remaining an impartial and inscrutable observer as the Snagem leader re-seats himself, choosing to honor his request in name. "Prosecutor Cruxias, your opening remarks if you would be so kind?"

"Of course your honor." The white-suited prosecutor says, his drawl lilting slightly as he gets to his feet, setting a sheaf of papers back down in the fancy leather suitcase braced open on the prosecutor's table, next to his cane. He gets to his feet, turning to address seemingly the gallery, cameras, and even Team Snagem itself in addition to the jury.

"You all have just heard a fine speech - something that Sub no doubt would want you to stand up and say 'Ça c'est la vérité!' - that is the truth!" His golden prosecutor's badge glimmers on the lapel of his suit as he rounds the table, stalking the court room expertly despite his youth. "Allies, friends, selfless heroes..." The last word has the first hint of what sounds like contempt spilling from Cruxias' mouth, his youthful face twisted up as his white hair shakes back and forth. "Those are all pleasantries, a trick of the mind to deceive you into doubting your own memories. As they say where I come from: la plus belle des ruses du diable est de vous persuader qu'il n'existe pas." He pauses for a moment, eyes meeting Sub's directly as he finishes his sentence. "The devil's finest trick is to persuade you that he does not exist." Cruxias pulls his stare away from the Snagem leader, drawing back to the Jury as he continues to pace, his long white mane waving.

"You all may have had encounters, experiences, and some of them may have been positive. But does that make them heroes? More often than not, I would say they have existed in a kind of... grey area. Dubiously heroic at best." The prosecutor presses his white gloved hand into the other, palm outward to emphasize these last two syllables, his face hardening for the first time as he speaks seemingly from the heart. "True heroes do not have ulterior motives. True heroes do not have secrets coiled inside of them like a hidden Seviper with honeyed words and poisoned fangs. Much like your neighbor, you suspect he is a good man, but who is to say for certain what happens behind closed doors? They will try and convince you that this trial is about remembering that they are heroes." He finishes, proceeding back to his prosecutor's table as he does, straightening his suit a slight bit. "But remember this ça avec certitude, I will show you proof positive that they have always had another motive when it comes to yourselves, your family, and your region."

Finished, he seats himself again, rearranging papers in and out of the hefty suitcase placed atop the table as he seems quite satisfied with his opening statement.

"Very well. We have heard statements from both parties." The judge continues, nodding towards Cruxias. "Do you have your first witness that you intend to call to the stand?"

"Bien sûr," He purrs, turning to the gallery. "They are already here in this very courtroom. The prosecution would like to call the Snagem member Sterling Grey to the stand, known more colloquially as Odd." Cruxias' declaration rings out with clarity and the entire courtroom, judge, and jury all turn to look at the channeler as the prosecutor's long arm whips out, one finger extended and pointing at the seated Snagem in the gallery.

"Mister... Odd, was it?" Jenny the First seemed bemused despite herself at how many pseudonyms the court was going through. "Would you please take the stand up here, at the request of the court?" She points to another bench directly to her left serving as the witness stand, near the judge's bench but a little further down height-wise.

Darts and Ogerpon look at the map over Aile's shoulder, back in the forest and far away from where any legal troubles were going to be able to bother them for the moment. The same details are immediately obvious to Darts, as the legendary Pokemon had no cartography nor map reading skills. She was just happy to be out of the medbay and was enthusiastically joining in at every opportunity. "This warp panel...." He says, tracing around it with a golden finger to highlight it. "Does it work both ways? Can we even use it with the teleportation scramblers up? I'm wondering if it might be worth us checking out... Otherwise," The Giratina hybrid traces over to where the outside of the building was. "It might be a good idea to just discreetly try and see what the forces outside and around the gym looks like - we can't rely on this warp panel for sure, and we might have to just brute force our way in if things go south."

Lykas and Odd listened carefully as Sub spoke in their defense. He made good points but with how things were going, how much it hit home their jury was questionable at the moment. Maybe striking at the heart right away was a good idea but for Lykas, at least, he wondered if it might have been better to make their case first with reminders of actual actions but he hadn't been in a courtroom since he was a teenager and had barely talked his way out of juvie.

When Cruxias made his statements to he contrary, both Snagems felt a sense of dread for brief moment. Too confident, this man was. Then cme the call for witnesses and Odd's stomach dropped completely. No one outside the Abbey should know that name, barring Cadenza. He'd stopped using it completely the day he left to journey the regions on his own. "How?" He mouthed silently before standing. "Gladly, your honor. If my partner may assist me to the stand." He replied as he was bid to take the stand. Lykas woudn't wait for permission, standing up and taking Odd's arm by the elbow, guiding him along the row of seats as until he was free, walking with him to the witness stand.

"Thanks, Lykas. I can handle it from here." He told the hybrid. Lykas nodded and returned quickly to his seat. Odd settled into the witness stand, hands in his lap as his scarred eyes faced out toward the courtroom. He could see the souls of those Snagems present, all clouded by fear and anxiety. All except for Sub, it seemed. Was he truly that confident or was he just that good at hiding even his negative emotions?

As Odd looked out at the jury, he would be able to sense the souls of the jury was similarly a mix of fear, anxiety, some anger and some hope and happiness. It truly was a mixed bag and if they were swayed one way or the other, he'd need a much closer look to tell. However, right now he was on the witness stand.

"Odd," Cruxias begins, standing again and rounding to the front of the courtroom, gesturing around with a hand, his black and white tie matching his hair in swaying. Recount to the court, s'il vous plaît, the events that occurred the most recent time you had met and interacted with the former Cipher administrator known simply as 'Dull'." He leaves the question hanging in the air. As Odd would look into the man's soul while accosted he would see that exact same confidence as Sub, nigh a mirror of their leader's own.

(sorry for the late post)

Keiko and I took our seats with the rest of our team, but otherwise kept to ourselves. The second I sat down, I started to feel the oppressive feedback of the teleport scramblers the building was covered in, which meant Rala was close. That had to mean at least Yuna was close by, as well. Knowing that helped me calm down a bit, but Keiko was still on high alert, looking all over the place to try to find where the girls were being held. "I can sense Rala nearby, so the girls are here," I whispered to her in hopes of calming her down. "They're probably going to wait to return them to us until the most opportune moment for them."

I felt some resentment coming from Keiko, but she visibly calmed down after I told her that. This was the last place in the world where an outburst would be tolerated, so it was important to appear calm while the proceedings remained civil. I had a sneaking suspicion things wouldn't stay that way, but there was no point in worrying about that now. The best we could do was play along for the time being.

I sat there, keeping to myself, only half-focused on the trial unfold in its opening statements. Still counting the seconds go by. Nearly every bit of me was worried. Worried this whole thing was going to fall through, rather it be by just going through this whole setup of a trial this was or whatever contingency plans we had to get ourselves out, let alone my jury-rigging one of those contingencies just above us. My hand ached once more just thinking about it. Part of me feared that it was going to be the last time I was going to see Freth, making me more than justified in staying with her in the days following my stunt that night. Part of me regretted a little arguing with Tristen a bit as I did before leaving coming here; demanding he stay behind in the headquarters to help those that was not able to help themselves like the doctor and GRAY. He did have a severely important role I felt, more so than the lot of us being here, I thought. He was one of the few I trusted to do it. The fact that we parted ways with at least one of us still a bit heated over it didn’t settle well. He understood that someone needed to hold down the fort, or to help those left behind to bail, but he didn’t understand why it needed to be him, citing especially the fact that SWIPE is more than likely well aware that Tristen was now involved in this whole thing and was surely not going to let him pull anything again single-handedly. He perhaps would have been okay sitting out in the forest with the others at least if all of us knew it was an option at the time, but it didn’t change the overall issue for him, even in retrospect.

As the prosecutor came up after Sub, spitting all manner of derogatory bullcrap, I couldn’t help but to think back to teacher back at home, wondering his opinion on it. I was left to wonder if any of his recent memories or any of my feats in the past got altered in some fashion to him and it left me woefully unsettled. I practically banked on him having watching this entire thing unfold, rather it be on the net, a paper during a morning coffee, or on television between Pokémon matches and errands to be ran. In spite of my pouring my heart out to teacher every now and then, conflicted if I should stay with the team or finally return home, having lectures returned in kind about needing to trust others to take up the mantle that I took on, that even if they don’t band together in a roguish team like I have been in, that in their own individual rights might only contribute very little to the overall whole to the issues plaguing this world, together they could do work for the betterment. That I needed to have faith. That they might not have the skills or the power I hold, every little thing could contribute to a far greater power. I sighed out at that thought suddenly as I recalled those recent talks with him; sitting here in this court room was not giving faith of any kind to me. In fact, it only vilified that I needed to stay. Give up on a small dream of living peacefully and taking over the gym. Especially knowing now there was the possibility of time and space screwery was about, never mind knowing good and well many weren’t going to be ready for stakes such as a massive pandemic or a megalomanic. If we’re being honest with ourselves…we kind of weren’t either, but at least we weathered it better than most would.

As I sit here in this court room chair, the more being with Snagem felt like a bit of a curse as much as it was any blessing to me. An ever-recurring cycle of needing to fix anything that proverbially breaks. I felt a heavy responsibility to aid those in trouble and such, bred by my work at the Mahogany Gym and the Pokémon League at large, I felt an obligation to make sure Mahogany Town, never mind the gym there, was safe. That me, my teacher, Freth, and Tristen at the very least could live in peace by making sure whatever fool who wanted to rear up to tear the regions a new one that they would need to think twice, thrice, and maybe a few other times after that before they attempt whatever crap they wanted to do. It felt all for naught right now. Once again, I could only tell my self even if I had left sooner, SWIPE would have been after me. Would have perhaps destroyed the gym just to get at me and Freth. Tristen would have perhaps been pulled out of school either way. Hell, in retrospect, when Freth and I was allowed to go out to the school ceremony to see Tristen, I almost had imagined that they had intent on dragging Tristen out at some point; if not then, then surely eventually, because of Tristen’s role throughout the war Lysandre and Ein instigated. SWIPE already showed at least a bit of the extent that they were willing to go through just to capture us and yet we’re allegedly the evil ones. Right.

Odd would then be called up to the front and I couldn’t help but to sit back, once again cross my arms, trying to get comfortable. This was going to be a long haul…

----

Freth would hover in place, watching the Snagems that were left in the forest converse with each other. She didn’t really have any thing to contribute other than the occasional check here and there to make sure they themselves didn’t get blindsided by any patrolling SWIPE operatives or anyone of that nature. When Larrimore addressed the bunch, asking about any fast moving Pokémon that could carry, Freth grimaced. “Unfortunately I don’t.” she said. “A lot of my crew is more opt to wreck things than carry anyone en-mass and they’re a fair bit on the slow side. My faster guys are smaller and lighter and probably not carrying anything if they can help it.” She said to Larrimore.

As the map came out, Freth would make herself forward to overlook it herself. Darts perhaps had the right of it, the exit probably could go both ways. Because it wasn’t like the Rockets would be coming through the gym’s front door. They would have needed a means to get in and out; something more small scale if push came to shove. They would of needed an exit point, secluded. Out of the way, no reason to visit it. And curious wild Pokémon wouldn’t bother with it for one reason or another. It was just the matter of trying to find the way in, find themselves inside of the old rocket facility underneath the gym, and getting those within the gym down back the way they came in case the emitter sabotage doesn’t pan out. “We might need to check it out while we still got the chance to. Is there a location where that warp is at?”

Reno had many reasons to not make any big reactions or show any sudden signs of his own emotions to the discussions flying around him. Keeping himself tamped down and the picture of professionalism was more important, especially since it gave him the focus to feel out the room for any surface level thoughts that might warn him about an oncoming trap being sprung. He had walked in with his Wynaut blatantly on his shoulder and they likely saw it as an effort to garner sympathy by having a cute blue blob be in every glance cast their way. Like a cheap doll designed to show the 'humanity' and 'safety' of the leadership before them. If they weren't going to make her go away or take away his necklace with his stone on it, then who was he to not utilize everything he has given. There would be no deep diving anyone's mind in this room though. That level of direct intrusion without a backdoor or distraction would at minimum alert the target, if not anyone else in the room looking for that sort of an energy spike.

So, naturally, that was when the backdoor that had been introduced onto his body decided to announce itself. While Barbara's presence and her own history certainly indicated his presence, it was almost calming for Reno's mild paranoia to be answered by being somewhat correct. And as could've been predicted based off his own grandiose statements from their last encounter, Mister Mushroom was spending more time gloating and patting himself on the back for managing the incredible feat of being unseen by them. That incredibly difficult task to do when a person is surrounded by a raucous crowd and the one doing the sneaking is just as faceless as everyone else there to his target.

But a few things were feeling off about his statement. A few things he had to question. "And why would I listen to anything you have to offer? From how Eri acted, I can assume you're associated with the Cult for the Dark One. Plus the only time I brought up the name Ultrarius, Sub went into fugue state and felt like he might bring down Victory Road on our heads. So why would I follow any requests to ring that bell again and walk to where you want us instead of just saying I caught a minor case of Paldean Athlete's Foot but its benign? Oh, also? Not exactly a surprise when who I presume to be your lackey is sitting in the audience gallery after we halted her Herba snatch and grab." Biting his mental tongue after that, Reno would quickly assess himself and find the small mushroom that was playing antenna. Apparently it had tucked itself away behind his tie, right next to where his stone was resting inside his shirt and that had managed to hide it both from view and being felt. But he wasn't going to cut the cord yet. He wanted to see if he got a response,

There was something else this little statement was telling him, but fully putting the thought into the world while he was still connected might alert him about the thing.

-----

Having decided to take a look himself, Beau would speak up from beside Darts. "I think Reno said the scramblers are more about messing up the user's ability to pick a destination in that area. So, since the destination is preplanned by the design, it should be fine." Scratching his chin, Beau would continue to examine the map and start trying to plot out a mental map of the area from what Larrimore said and where all the exits could be. If he needed to do anything to force people a certain way with explosions or other methods, it was going to come in handy to know things like the side gate past Viridian Forest, But he couldnt help out on the actual removal of people. His Fletchinder barely carried him and a Charizard wasn't exactly going to be carrying much beyond a single person.

At the mention of leaving scrambler range, Leslie would perk up. "I got a few options. And like....half of them are local enough that they wouldn't stand out until things were way closer than they probably would want. I just....maybe shouldn't be riding some of them." Leslie said, reaching to her satchel and pulling out a Pokeball. Cracking the device open, her Fearow would now be perched on the ground beside her and staring at the strangely familiar terrain that she found herself in. "Mauri should be able to carry a few people out of range and SWIPE won't even know she isn't local until like....halfway through the grab part of snatch and grab. Past that....could always deploy the Onix bus again."

As Sol quietly listened to the opening remarks from Sub and Cruxias alike, he was loathe to admit there was contempt already bubbling like it had during Looker's interrogation. There it was again, yet more to demonize the team at large and especially Sub. As he looked towards the team, watching as Odd took to the stand, he could only look down in shame. Avoiding fates like the one looming over everyone was the sort of thing he and Sub had hoped to manage, and the prosecution had already well planted the seed that those efforts were surely for naught and the escape plan would actually be needed. If that wasn't thwarted by the time the verdict came.

In the meantime, shame aside, he'd try to keep a good face. No good letting the others fear even more.

Cera was less successful at hiding her contempt, a glare outlining the flash of aggravation as she listened to Cruxias' opening statements. Trying to hide the growing fear of where this might end up was a similar failure, making a point to still remain as quiet as she could as she adjusted the blue blazer of an equally blue pantsuit. This was going to be a long day, she could already tell...

---

"Only my Dodrio really, and he can hold one other apart from myself," Amaranth answered. "Anything else that'd be useful would want the skies more and even trying to escape, they'd probably be sent back down just as fast." She had to admit she was curious about the warp panel too, but the others had already asked the same questions that came to mind. Instead, there'd be an annoyed look from her as Leslie spoke up. "Much as your Onix was useful, could we not? They'll stick out like a sore thumb if we need to be discrete. Even if I'll admit it sounds like our options are lacking..."

"If we're trying to escape the range of the scramblers as quick as possible I'm not certain discretion would be needed at that point. Only mark against using Onix is whether or not it can move rapide enough." The Pinsir hybrid chiimed in as he listened to everyone's suggested Pokemon with Cera not caring for the idea of using an Onix.

Turning back to the blueprints he stared at them in Aile's hands for awhile longer before perking up, looking towards Darts and back at the blueprints as he considered it. His old friend Beau would then chime in and point out how might the warp panel circumvent the restrictions of the scrambler. "That does make sense, I can see the logique there. According to GRAY Reno did something similar at Realgam Tower did he not? Instead of warp panels he used his Pokemon. Either way, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check out the panel that's pretend to be in Diglett's Cave, right? Though monsieur Darts is also correct in that we can't rely on that..." He said, tapping his chin in thought.

"How's about some of us examine the warp panel in the cave to ensure it's even there while one or two check out the outside of the building? I doubt us hybrids would be capable of the later but perhaps Amaranth and Rachel? They could go see where the security is most fierce outside and if there is any noteworthy points to strike at, if need be." Larrimore continued.

Crystal would remain silent, watching both Sub and Cruxias, fingers still fiddling with the hem of her skirt. Her eyes would narrow with Cruxias’ opening, but yelling would be rather inappropriate. Well, if she felt like yelling. The anxiety she was feeling was also doing a rather great job of keeping her silent thus far. Light, she knew she was innocent, but enough had been altered here that it really did feel like they jumped into another reality somehow. Plenty was the same, but also enough was different that it felt like she had screwed up somehow. But then, how was everyone else given the same memories of the previous reality… Light, this was starting to twist her head. She needed more information somehow, but they weren’t very likely to get that now. More like they were about to be hung. Hopefully, the other group had a plan going through.

When Odd took the stand, her eyes would turn onto him, taking a deep breath. First up was him, huh? Well, let’s see how they linked his testimony.

Aile would suddenly feel mildly claustrophobic as everyone began to surround her. It made sense, as she had the map of the place, but still. She was about to chime in with what she had caught, but it seemed like everyone was pointing things out, particularly the warp pad. Taking a mental step back real quick to process everything, sorting out all the talking points in her head. For Larrimore’s initial question, she looked down to her belt, noting the Pokéballs resting there. “Tatooine can carry a couple, one in her arms and one on her back, similar with Dega. I wanted to give Kuat a bit more time to rest after straining the Mega Evolution running at Rustboro. And… Anything big enough to carry as many people as an Onix could would also stand out, Amaranth. Kuat was tearing through the forest himself, and probably would without Mega Evolution.”

She’d listen to Larri again as he went with that, nodding and agreeing with the sentiment. “I agree. On the warp panel side, with my experience in Lysandre Labs, assuming that he would have had that place outfitted with anti-teleportation protections is that they’d still work as well. Assuming that they’re similar to the warp pad that’s outlined here.

“The scouting isn’t bad either. Though, I’d suspect that the front of the gym is going to be heavily guarded, to keep people out mostly. Maybe there might be a couple other less guarded openings, but I’m worried that we’d be able to get through the front unscathed. As for the tunnel, it might be sealed off, but I doubt it’s been a full collapse. It would probably be too noticeable if they did that.” Standing up, Aile would put away her SNAG and dust herself off. “Making sure we have all of our routes open before everything goes down, though, is definitely the best idea.” The woman would close her eyes to focus on the earth beneath her, trying to identify where the forest ended and where she could feel a larger mass of ground type chi. Once she got a sense of that, she’d nod and look at the others. “Alright, we should probably split now then. Amaranth, Rachel, go ahead and head out. And anyone who wants to come with me…” She paused as she looked down at her flats frowning before deciding to take them off along with the barely visible socks that went with them, deciding bare feet was going to be preferable to the extremely thin soles of those shoes. “At this point, they’d be more annoying than anything else. Anyways, let's go now. If anyone wants to stay put, I can send Poggle back to get you all.” Aile, while not walking fast, would start taking off into the forest, heading towards where she picked up that Diglett Cave began. Her large Nincada would soon also appear on her arm, the woman talking to him while they walked. He nodded soon after, probably agreeing to what she told him to do.

Odd could sense the negativity in the jury stand very well, though he also felt some things he was less versed in. Joy? Hope, perhaps? Positive emotions like those fell more into Ulla's wheelhouse as a Fairy Channeler than his own but so strong were the feelings in this room that even he could pick them up for the moment.

Hearing the request to recount events, he paused for a moment. What had been the events of that encounter? The only thing that stood out at first was what had amounted to an execution. Granted, it had been a necessary one but that couldn't be the only thing he said in front of these people, whose opinions the freedom of his entire family hinged upon, as well as the freedom of all their closest friends. "Let me think for a moment. It's been a while since then." He requested, casting his mind backward several years. He remained silent for a few short moments, though to him and likely every other Snagem in the room, at least, it felt much longer. Blinking his sightless eyes once or twice before he began to speak, he replied to the request at last.

“As best I can recall-” He began calmly. “We received a call from one of our contacts in Unova alerting us to what seemed like a military occupation in Floccessy Town from an unknown group. So we went out to investigate and see what aid, if any, we could offer.” He explained. “When we arrived, it was fairly apparent right away that Team Flare of Kalos were the occupying group. They were digging trenches, laying down mines, attempting to take over the local clocktower to, I believe it was, set up a communication relay with the rest of their organization.” Taking a long breath, he continued. “And so we set about putting a stop to that, at least, and trying to clean up the mess they’d made with the bombs before anyone got hurt. It was after that, while some of us were checking on the citizens of the nearby Virbank City, that Dull arrived on the scene. I wasn’t on-site when he first arrived but from what I saw when I got there and confirmed by those present after-the-fact, he was fighting the entity named ‘S-22’ by Ein for unknown reasons.”

He paused for a moment, trying to sense any distrust so far. “While he had fought with us in the past, it had been at Ein’s behest so we thought if we helped him get S-22 off his back, he might be willing to help us. Give us information that might help deal with Ein’s mad plans, considering we had learned very little about what he was doing and could only react at that point in time. Unfortunately, he still saw us as an enemy and immediately attacked us. As much as I’d have preferred otherwise, I had suspected he would the moment I became aware of his presence. He wasn’t any more mentally stable than Ein by that point, it seemed like, perhaps less so and we were forced to defend ourselves.” He heaved a heavy sigh at that point, a few tears at the corners of his eyes. While he had lost a bit of himself to obsession at the time, he had tried not to directly address his actions since then.

“Ultimately, after a relentless attack against us on his part and us barely managing to not be killed by his very clear attempts to end the lives of several of us, I was forced to end his life to put a stop to it.” He ended the rather abridged tale, tears streaming down his face by the time he had finished. “We’d made every possible attempt within our power to stop him without doing so and while we had succeeded in the past, he’d been on Ein’s leash before that day and allowed us to escape. That last encounter, he made it clear he had broken that leash and had no intention of allowing any of us to live if he were allowed to continue.” He paused momentarily once more before delivering one last line. “All he wanted was to go home… and I wanted to help him but not even Ein knew how and he’d gone mad with grief by the end.” The Channeler’s trauma over ending Dull’s life had never been more apparent. Certainly, he had been to Hell and back for the power he had gained over the years but that power was supposed to be purely to defend. He’d never wanted to use it to end lives as he had against Dull.

~~~
In Viridian Forest, Wren had leaned back against a tree and closed his eyes, trying not to get too anxious. As he’d learned to harness his Channeling more, it had become more obvious that what he’d called “anxiety” in the past had been him sensing energy but this? This was true anxiety. As the others began to speak on the topic of Aile’s blueprints, he opened his eyes again and took a brief look toward them. Too many gathered together for the moment to see what they were looking at, he thought, so he closed his eyes again and breathed in the smell of the forest to calm his nerves.
Then he heard Larrimore ask about Pokemon that could carry people and piped up, loud enough to be heard from his tree. "Asphodel and Laurel can carry one or two each but Laurel isn't what you'd call 'fast' so best not to rely on the walking tree in a prison break scenario." He provided.
The glass-like child that had snuck into the group popped their head up in front of everyone else to look at Aile’s SNAG, much like any curious child might crawl into a parent or older sibling’s lap to slake their curiosity about something they were looking at. “So… We’re looking for something? Anything I can help with?” They chirped, looking up at the others. They were probably not a good choice for sneaking, given their unique appearance but sitting around was getting boring. They would, unfortunately, not get a good look before Aile put the SNAG away and stood up. However, they would be one of the first to join her, glad to have something to do.
"Touching, very touching." Cruxias says, his cane tapping as he made his way across the courtroom floor to look at Odd's sightless eyes. The prosecutor was frowning lightly, even if Odd couldn't see it he'd be able to sense the seeming truthfulness of his words, it didn't seem like he was being sarcastic. "Une tragédie, c'est sûr. Tell the court, if you would Mister Odd," He gestures out around at the gathered Snagems in the gallery. "Is it often that the leadership of your group pressured you into playing judge, jury, and executioner for people? I sympathize with your position, it's not easy to feel like you have no other choice than to execute somebody. But you have to understand the position you find yourself in, sûrement? Here in the court we don't have anything to go by except for your word that you needed to kill this man. Could you please outline for the court who was it that decided this course of action was necessary?"
To the untrained eye, it might seem like the southern drawling lawyer was giving Odd an out. And he was, but there was a very unspoken condition attached to it. Sub surely knew what it was, as his darker-colored eyes meet the bright blue of Cruxias' for a brief, fleeting moment. To the Snagem leader it felt like the impact between two legendary swords, platinum steel meeting dark black ebony as their stare connected and dueled while they looked at each other.
Darts and Ogerpon would join Aile, following her into the forest and watching her odd (to them) method of tracking the earth with bare feet. For his part, the Giratina hybrid had to admire the woman - she was a pilot and a tracker, was there anything she couldn't do?
Ogerpon would jump lightly as the glass child made itself known in the middle of the action, and luckily for her the Legend wasn't as trigger-happy as she had been prone to be a year ago. "Pyon?" She asks, half-way between taking a fighting stance. A simple query - who are you?
As I listened to Odd recant his story, there were parts to it that even I didn’t even know. Never bothered to ask. I distinctly remembered Dull, but he never really came after me in any capacity. Neither Freth or Tristen for that matter. The one that was on our case most of the time was Kess, and what a distraction, never mind a pain in our hides, that she was. That she still is. The most I knew between Odd and Dull was that while it was a long, attrition-filled, battle between them, it resulted at the end that Odd had to do a deed he was forced into, and it was one of those things that bothered him and as I noticed the tears, still do. I never bothered asking him about it myself. In some regards feeling like it was not my place. I too had scars from that entire ordeal and on rare occasion have a minor nightmare over that I never bring up to Freth, usually dismissing it to myself as nothing more than a stress-induced nightmare and as long as it didn’t really affect sleep, then I was fine. The whole ordeal with Ein was over. I needed to move on. Granted, moving on has been difficult since then, thinking back to the Galar World Tournament for example and the whole reason why I was pressed to make my way through the whole Victory Road course in Paldea for example to clear my mind, get right with myself and my Pokémon, and start making a decision or two. Allow myself to heal, a bit. But as Odd was showing, maybe some things time wasn’t going to heal that easily.
The prosecutor would speak up once Odd finish recanting his story and every word, and I had to try to hold back a grimace. Every word, maybe legitimately sympathetic, empathetic even. But there was that bitter feeling behind it, and the one sentence that pretty much made me realize just what kind of prosecutor we were dealing with. Who was it that gave Odd the call to end Dull? That was the mother of loaded questions. He was experienced. He knew how to drill into people. Fluster them. Make them speak themselves into a corner. Odd couldn’t say without incriminating someone, and his silence would also incriminate Snagem as a whole as well. If he said he acted on his own, maybe in the heat of the moment, that would incriminate Odd and throw Sub under the bus for at bare minimum of making someone not fit to handle a job like that. If he mentioned Sub or anyone else in Snagem, similar thing. Never mind about bringing into question of taking the law into our own hands outright in such a manner. Why we should decide who lives and dies? No accountability. My God, I thought I was good in getting the better of people like that…but I have to admit, only a few minutes in and I feel like an ametuer to this guy. Cruxias already saw weakness and clamped down tight. And he is perhaps poised to do the same to all of us. Maybe he knows that some of us are going to be tougher to crack than others, but he knows he will succeed in making us incriminate ourselves one way or another. There was no good answer to this man in front of these people. This wasn’t good.
-------
“Right at the moment, I don’t have any better idea.” Freth spoke up to Larrimore, shaking her head. “Its probably better that way if we did split up in a fashion because some of us would probably get the attention of some SWIPE members just based on pressure alone if we got too close. Ammy and Rachel are pretty low key enough they can get close and back out, provided of course no one recognize them as Snagems. My only concern for us as far as the warp panel is concerned is if there is power and a warp connection for them. Giovanni hasn’t been in that gym in ages. For as all we know, this stuff is out of date and any exit of his has been uprooted and taken out. I doubt the Pokémon league would have left that stuff around on purpose. We’re banking they weren’t that thorough after all this time.” Freth said. “Never mind, now that I think about it…probably should have asked Blizzard why that gym is still standing and didn’t get moved off into another city, if not at least to another building in the city when Giovanni was found out doing his thing in there.” She then mused. “Anyways, we’re burning time. If we’re doing this, we better go now and find out.”
