Kiku waited until Arthur was gone before slipping into the bedroom and coughing violently. Pulling his hand away from his mouth, he saw that there was blood on it. Silently, Kiku walked over to his soaked jacket and pulled out a white cloth and a bottle of some sort of medication. Wiping his hand clean of the blood, Kiku opened the bottle and took a small drink of it.

"No one must know..." Kiku thought to himself, closing the bottle and wiping his lips with the cloth, "That the effects of the wars and isolation has done more than left my body permanently scared..."

Hurriedly hiding away the bottle, Kiku walked over to the conjoined bathroom and washed the cloth as best as he could clean of the blood. Because it was silk, most of the blood came right off, so Kiku turned off the sink and walked back into the bedroom, hiding the cloth away into his jacket once again. He sat down on the bed and soon was deep in thought, wondering if his body would make it though another illness.

Gilbert didn't raise his head as the Austrian walked into the room, nor did he open his eyes. He heard the anger that Roderich was feeling in the way he changed the blankets, resisting the urge to flinch away when one of the blankets landed relatively near to him.

Clouded red eyes wearily opened to watch the man gather up the blankets that were now lying around on the floor, as well as his folded clothing.

"Um, I should probably have some water," he mumbled, letting his eyes drop back down to his lap as he carefully toyed with the cross pendant, a habit he had done for a long time when he got nervous. Usually, only Elizabeta caused him to do that. Never in his life had he done it because of Roderich.

"Um...sorry," he whispered, closing his eyes and letting his hand drop from his necklace. "For...for being a pain..." A light blush tinged his cheeks, while he inwardly cursed the medication.

Blinking when his wrist was firmly snagged, Ivan glanced over his shoulder at the irate Greek. He was pulled away, apparently under the pretense of a private conversation. "Chto*?" he mumbled, not understanding the situation. Anger rose inside of him again as he was being pulled out of the room, his eyes blank as he bit his tongue to keep from showing any sort of weakness. Which, according to previous leaders, was exactly what any sort of emotion was.

When he was pulled into the hall, the door fell shut with a sharp sound and drew Ivan from the confusing thoughts he was currently entertaining. With a cold look, he wrenched his arm from the Greek's hold and cast a frigid look at the man. "Do not touch me," he ordered, his control over the English language sharpening in his anger.

Biting his tongue sharply, Arthur cleared the drunken dizziness away and shook his head. A sigh fell from his lips and he fought back the urge to submit to the rise of self-hatred bubbling inside of him.

Walking back upstairs, noticing that Kiku had moved to the bedroom and appeared lost in thought.

Pausing, outside his own room, Arthur felt a tinge of uncertainty fill him. He was aware that his own clothes would be too big on Kiku, to the point that they'd be uncomfortable. But, what else did he have?

A thought struck him and he closed his eyes, not sure about how it would be taken. He wouldn't know until he asked, he supposed.

Walking to the room Kiku was sitting in, he ran a hand through his hair. "Um, my clothes won't fit you. Ah... but..." He sighed. "I still have some of Alfred's clothing from when he was young. Uh...they would probably fit..." he mumbled, a slight blush tinging his cheeks.

Unconsciously, Kiku blushed a faint shade of red. The thought of wearing another person's clothing was unfamilar to him, but...This was Alfred they were talking about. Besides, it wasn't like Kiku was taking Alfred's clothing. He was just borrowing them until his clothes were dry and he was able to change back. Besides, they were Alfred's old clothing and he probably didn't even wear or fit them anymore. Kiku didn't have any other choice, either, unless he wanted to get even sicker than he was now.

"A-Alright, Arthur-san..." Kiku murmured, the blush still on his cheeks, "I-I'll wear Alfred-san's old clothing..."

Even the way Kiku said it sounded extremely awkward, causing his blush to deepen. He didn't mean it to sound so strange, but that was the best way he could agree to wearing Alfred's clothing.

Arthur nodded, cheeks still faintly pink. "Uh..y-yeah," he mumbled, turning and walking into the small storage room he had.

He flicked on the light, casting blank green eyes on the items that were there. It...was a blatant reminder of the past, really. Items from his time taking care of Alfred were carefully placed on shelves and in drawers, neatly stacked out of the way. There were objects from earlier, as well. Items from under Rome's control were hidden amongst things, too. He noticed a parchment of paintings Rome had drawn him, back when he was trying to 'civilize' Arthur. There were paintings and luxurious clothes from France, back in that time. In one of the drawers, he recalled the book of pressed flowers Francis had presented him a long time ago, recalling Arthur's rather druid-like beliefs. His past was in this room.

While the items there were old, they were kept in remarkable shape. Things that would crumble with age were sealed from the air, and clothes were washed with great care. Everything was clean and well kept. He...he didn't want to lose the happy memories of his past.

Walking to the wardrobe, he gently went through the clothes. He smiled slightly as he went passed the clothing Francis and Rome had tried to get him to wear, generally without any luck. He shook his head, searching for some clothes that would fit Kiku. Coming across a white pair of cotton pajamas, he gathered them into his arms and sighed. He closed the wardrobe and left the room, turning off the light and shutting the door behind him.

He walked back to Kiku and held out the clothing. "Here. You can change in the bathroom while I change the blankets," he murmured.

Returning the Russian's look of anger, one small part of Heracles was mildly surprised to actually register emotion in the other nation's eyes. Pushing the thought aside, the Greek addressed the matter at hand. "Our behaviour is hurting Yao. You must realise that, correct?" 'At least he is acknowledging me now..' The Mediterranean nation knew that Russia didn't like him, but at least now they were speaking.

'Ok, maybe not speaking...more like arguing, but still..'

Feeling his anger subside slightly - the Greek never could stay angry for too long - Heracles turned away from the other nation. "I suppose you could blame me, for all of this, and thats why it doesn't hurt too much that you don't like me. But..whatever it may be that you think..I'm not trying to steal Yao away from you..I..I was just lonely. Can you understand that?" Feeling mildly embarrassed at admitting himself like this, the Greek could feel a faint dusting of pink across his face.

Ivan shrugged his shoulder a bit, blanketing his emotions once more. The anger in his eyes vanished, leaving the cold emptiness behind. His lips tugged into a emotionless smile as he listened to the Greek speak.

Resisting the urge to show boredom on his face, he instead pulled out his bottle of vodka and took a gulp of it. He sealed it and put the bottle back into his pocket.

He watched as a faint blush dusted Greece's face, not particularly caring. "Is that all?" he asked abruptly, voice void of emotion. "I do not want to stand here while you cry about your problems."

With his anger, which was now carefully masked, he recalled the English he had been struggling with. It was somewhat amusing that he'd remember it in his anger. After all, as the USSR the only time he used it was when speaking with America or England.

Kiku took the clothing and walked into the bathroom, closing and locking the door before he began changing. Pulling off his pants, Kiku hurriedly tugged on the pants that Arthur had given him. They were quite loose, but they luckily came with drawstrings, so Kiku pulled them tight around his waist and made a neat bow to keep the pants up. Shedding his shirt next, Kiku pulled on the matching top to the pants and inhaled. The shirt had a mix of Alfred's scent, but also a hint of Arthur's scent. In all honesty, the nation wasn't sure which scent he liked better, but they were both very soothing to his aching head. Unsure if Arthur was finished changing the sheets, Kiku came out of the bathroom carrying his soaked clothing.

"Ano...Arthur-san..." Kiku murmured, "I've finished changing. Where do I put my soaked clothing?"

Arthur was just finishing making the bed when Kiku came back in. He carefully folded the top part of the sheet over the quilt, glancing over at the Asian when he finished.

Kiku looked...well, young in Alfred's old clothing. Even as young as the lad had been when he still wore that clothing, he had been built better than the majority of people his age. As such, the pajamas were somewhat loose on Kiku.

"Um...I suppose I could wash them," Arthur murmured, shrugging. He motioned over at the damp blankets. "I have to wash these, as well, so it would be simple enough." Beside, it was probably best to keep himself busy. If he wasn't thinking, he wouldn't be hurting, either. It would probably keep him from drinking, which would be the best thing to do if he was going to request that Alfred come over.

"Soka*...Ano*...Do you need some help, Arthur-san?" Kiku offered, placing his damp clothing with the equally damp bedding, "I can assist you."

Just then, Kiku let out another violent cough, thanking the heavens that no blood had been forced from his body. He didn't want anyone, especially Arthur and/or Alfred, to know how sick he exactly was. Besides, the medicine that Kiku had taken before Arthur had returned was set to take effect as soon as it was taken, so Kiku was safe for another few hours. He went over to the bed and took his jacket, folding it before placing the wet garment under his pillow.

"Do not worry about the jacket, kudasai,*" Kiku told Arthur, "It is extremely delicate, so I don't wash it unless I have to. It can dry under the pillow."

The truth was, the medicine bottle, and the blood stained silk, were hidden inside his jacket. If Arthur took the jacket and washed it, he would find the bottle and the silk. Not wanting to be a bother, or let anyone find out his secret, Kiku came up with a little white lie. It technically wasn't that bad of a lie, seeing as how the jacket was extremely delicate and that Kiku usually handwashed it over having someone else wash it for him.

*Soka- I see
*Ano- Um
*Kudasai- Another way of saying 'Please'. The common form is 'onegai', although my spelling might be off.

Arthur worried his lip as Kiku coughed, green eyes showing concern. Shaking his head, he smiled slightly. "Ah, no. No, I'm fine," he assured him. "Beside, you should rest."

He blinked when the Asian put his jacket under his pillow, confused. "It...um, nothing would dry underneath a pillow," he pointed out, not understanding the logic about that. If anything, it would hinder the ability to dry and quite possibly cause some other problem.

He sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair. "Um, do you need anything. Uh, like water?" he asked, feeling awkward. It had nearly been a year since he entertained a guest, including Alfred and Francis.

It seemed amazing that they allowed him to isolate himself that much, but...they were both busy doing other things. Why would they remember someone as pathetic as himself? Plus, he was probably drinking whenever they considered it and got repulsed by his alcoholism.

'For a minute there, you just looked a little down is all, Alfred.' Yao replied, smiling with a softened look in his eyes. He liked the American... It was a pity that he never got to speak to the supernation due to his close friendship with Ivan (after all, the both of them didn't get along so well) so the rare opportunities that the Asian got were seldom ignored.

When questioned on his own welfare, Yao shook his head. 'Don't worry about me... I've just got a few hiccups to iron out in my head is all, aru.' That probably did not make very much sense, but Yao was sure that it was coherent in English.

'May I sit here with you for a little while? It seems that my other company has gone missing and I've nto spoken to you in quite a while now, aru.' The smaller man sat on the desk, crossing his legs.

----------

Roderich paused. To get both gratitude and an apology from the ex-nation in one day was enough to make his head spin a little... Gilbert really was quite sick if he was acting in this way. However, the apology bought about a heavy feeling of guilt in the Austrian's stomach, making the nation feel a little ill at his own behaviour. He was being such an ill-tempered host, and it certainly wasn't right. He'd been apologising for his own behaviour today quite a bit, and now he realised just how badly he'd been behaving... And how bad of a host he was.

'I... I'll get you that water. Make yourself comfortable, alright?' He spoke after a few moments, glancing at the albino with a gentle frown on his face. 'Just... Be sure to call if you need anything more. And get some good rest...' He left the room, closing the door behind him.

'Gott... I am a fool.' He murmured to himself, letting out a shuddered breath as he rubbed his own forehead with one hand. He doubted he could even apologise anymore, thinking that it would get the same response as before... And for good reason. Apologies became meaningless when heard too often.

He had to swallow his pride, or heavens help him.

But first, water. A glass of water. This he fetched, placing it on the beside table. 'Would you like me to leave you now? Or is there anything else you may require, Gilbert?' His tone was different from before- this time, it had lost the anger and was now more tender, but without a patronising note. Roderich knew better than to pity Gilbert. After all...

No one was more deserving of pity than himself, for how pathetic he was as a nation... Gilbert had proved it countlessly.

Gilbert's face was tinged light pink and he let his bangs fall over his eyes weakly. The medication was making him act weird. Think weird. He hated being medicated because he acted so out of character. A feeling of shame ran through him. He was being so weak. And in front of someone who could exploit it.

He glanced up when Roderich set a glass of water on the bedside table, still sitting on the floor like a pathetic child who had been scolded and was unsure of himself.

"Um...wake me in an hour...so I can see if the fever is going down..." he mumbled, shivering and willing the light blush to vanish. He managed, barely, his arms curled around his middle as if he needed to comfort himself.
