It seemed as if this was going well. Yao couldn't help but smile a little in relief, glad to have been accepted by the American... For now, that is. He was sure that it'd all change again when Ivan came in... But yet, Yao could and would not ever entertain the thought of leaving the Russian to become democratic, like the other nations...

No. Ivan was his dear friend. And although it closed him off to alot of other nations, he supposed it was what had to be.

'So... How has America been, aru?' The Asian knew to pick his questions carefully and avoid talking about Ivan. That was probably a sore subject that both Alfred and Yao would strongly disagree on. 'Other than having to be here, that is...' He trailed off, voice going rather quiet as he began to toy with his ponytail nervously. He'd tied it up earlier... And was now stressing his hair to no end with the constant fiddling in his nervousness.

Perhaps this was the reason why Japan made friends easily... After all, he had embraced the western culture after a little while... Whereas Yao himself had not been so fond of the vast differences in both culture and politics.

But it didn't hurt to try.

----------

'Alright.' The Austrian nodded at the request, frowning a little. Gilbert still had not gotten into bed... But then again, he supposed that the albino would make his own way in his own time. He didn't want to smother the ex-nation -after all, that was just creepy- but then again, he also did not want to neglect Gilbert's needs. So, if he were to stick to the instructions given and those alone, he wouldn't upset the man. That seemed like a good idea.

'Sleep well... And remember, if you need anything, I'll be around.'

And, with that last assurance, Roderich hesitantly left the room, closing the door behind him. He had no intention of cleaning up anything just yet... The washing was all in the machine, and the dishes were soaking in the sink. So, there was nothing to do... But to play. And play he would... Even with Gilbert there, Roderich couldn't put his hobbies to the back of his mind. He'd been itching to play since that morning... And if he played something soft and soothing, perhaps it wouldn't irk the albino too much.

He sat down by his piano, lifting the lid and propping it. After testing a few keys to make sure they were in tune... Roderich began to play, falling into a silent rapture. One of the simpler, finer pleasures in his life... The notes sang at every touch, reciting a song that the Austrian knew, and was so fond of; Moonlight Sonata.

No matter how many times he played it... It always sounded so pure and beautiful.

Keeping his face downcast, Gilbert wearily nodded to Roderich's claim that he'd be nearby if anything was needed. He tightened his grip around his middle, shivering. He didn't look up when the door shut, but was aware that he was suddenly trapped in darkness. A slight smile tugged at his lips, but his eyes were unfocused.

Trying to get to his feet, Gilbert failed. He stumbled back to the floor and sat there miserably, trying to figure out how he could get to the bed. He'd...have to crawl, he realized. Mortification stung him, a blush darkening his cheeks. The only upside was that Roderich wasn't there to see him.

Shakily, he managed to get over to the bed on his knees with his dignity reasonably intact. Using the bed as a brace, he pulled himself on it and crawled under the covers. Lying on his side, facing away from the door as best as he could, the Prussian shivered. He closed his eyes, trying to ignore how pitiful he must look with his flushed face and curled up position. He fell asleep almost instantly. Despite being a light sleeper when he was healthy, he didn't even hear the piano.

"I hate rain," Alfred said stubbornly. "I hate it alot."
"Also, Kiku has left, he got sick." Alfred added as a after thought.

'Wh-what...? Kik- I mean... Japan is sick, aru?' That sent a pang of fear and worry down Yao's spine, and the Asian could feel the blood draining from his face. He knew that Kiku had been a little frail due to the recent wars, but... To hear that the nation had fallen sick so suddenly... Yao couldn't bear to think on it.

'H-how... How did this happen?' He felt sick just thinking of it... What had happened when he and Ivan had been in the washroom? And to think that Kiku had been getting sick whilst the pair had joked about the nation having dead eyes...

Yao's mind began to reel. Everything had been going wrong today from the start, and for no apparent reason. And not only that, alot of drama had been centred around himself... Or those closest to him. He felt dizzy, he felt ill, and he felt guilty. It was becoming much too much of a familiar feeling, that cold twist in his stomach, and heavy heart...

And even now, Ivan and Heracles weren't here. They'd gone to talk... And if Yao knew the Russian, he could guess that Ivan wasn't going to be so fond of the talk... And it seemed as if it wouldn't be a friendly chat. Yao, of course, did not know this. However, he could infer such with simplicity- after all, he knew that Ivan did not like the Greek at all.

And now, Yao was proving to be a terrible older brother by not knowing of his sibling's sickness... And furthermore, having been mocking the man in his time of need.

Sins worse than death.

'A-Alfred... Where... Where is he now? May I... Borrow your phone to call him? I... Don't... Have his number, aru.' That was shameful to admit. Then again, the pair hadn't been in contact for a long time so it was probably obvious that neither had the other's number.

Alfred blinked and nodded taking out his phone. "He said he wanted to leave, if you want to talk to Kiku, you better talk to Arthur first. He's the one taking care of Kiku."Alfred said dialing the numbers then giving the phone to Yao, mouthing the words, 'Good Luck.'
PostPosted: Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:56 am

'Thank you, Alfred...' The Asian trailed off, hoping that Arthur would not be too angry to hear that it was Yao at the end of the phone and not the American. Right about now, Yao was having second thoughts about calling Kiku... He was sure that the other nation would most likely not want to talk to him when like this, and even if he did... He could take offense to something, anything.

After all, they weren't on such good terms... But perhaps now was a good time for them to begin building a bond again. That, or Yao would be completely rejected over the phone.

He supposed all he had to do now was wait... Though he was slightly frightened of both Arthur's and Kiku's reactions.

Alfred watched Yao as he looked nervous. 'They better not be mad! They better not!'Alfred thought. He really hoped everything would work out well.

Waiting for a response, Arthur blinked when his phone rang. The smooth, rolling sound of Amazing Grace filled the air and he sighed. "Pardon," he murmured, pulling out his cell phone.

He glanced down at the service bars, noting that his normally flawless connection was a bit poor due to the storm. He frowned slightly, noting that it was Alfred's number. Then again, he did have to talk to the lad. He sighed softly and clicked 'talk'.

"Hello, Kirkland speaking," he answered, the phrase ingrained on his brain. He was always having to answer phone calls. If it wasn't his government, it tended to be foreign political affairs.

"This isn't about me, don't you understand that?!" Turning on his heel, Heracles marched up to the Russian until their faces were just a few inches apart. "Yao cares for you much more than me..anyone can see that. But all you seem to want to do is cause him pain. Why? Why would you do that to him?"

(I feel like I might be going slightly off Greece's character..just let me know if you think so.)

Ivan kept his face carefully blank, masking his anger with a sweet smile. His breathing was even and his posture was relaxed. There was no outward indication of the rage he was feeling. Instead, he seemed quite calm. "What one wants to do and what one does are very different things," he commented, giving a slight shrug. "A nation should be aware of that fact." He knew that he was. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have chases off his loved ones under his leader's orders.

He took a step back, so Greece was not so close, and smiled. "If you'll excuse me." Without waiting for a reply, he turned and walked back into the meeting room. Where his smile completely fell.

Just managing to keep the hurt off of his face, he turned his gaze from Yao. He was sitting with America. A sense of betrayal flitted across his gut and he walked by without a word, sitting beside his youngest sister. "Pryvet*, Natalia," he murmured, a small smile on his lips as he masked the pain in his eyes.

'I...' Yao's mind went blank. He'd thought of so many ways to answer the Englishman, but when it came down to it, words failed him. What exactly could he say to a half-sobering nation -who didn't seem to be so fond of him- and then, if managing to get past him... What in the blazes should he say to Kiku?

'A-Arthur... I mean, England, sir.' Well, it was always best to be polite. 'It's Yao. I... I just heard from Alfred. Ki- ... How is Japan faring? I... You know how it is...' He swallowed, the words having to force themselves out of his throat. 'America told me that Kik- Japan... Has fallen sick.' His voice sounded strained, and he found it difficult to explain himself to the Englishman. Arthur probably thought of him as a pathetic person for this... His face flushed a deep red as he realised this, shamefully. his whole demeanor was a little... Overbearingly clingy.

In the brief seconds of silence, Yao noticed that Ivan had returned. Something inside of him tugged him towards hanging up the phone and joining the Russian, but his conscience strongly reminded him that he was Japan's older brother, and needed to ask of his wellbeing and talk to him, if possible, before succumbing to his own selfish wants.

However, his heart sank when Ivan went to his sister instead. It didn't take a genius to figure out why the Russian was avoiding him... It was the company that the Asian man was keeping. Yao knew that Ivan and Alfred certainly did not get along, but that was no reason for him to ignore him... Surely. Or maybe it was. Yao never knew with Ivan.

He supposed he'd talk to him later... And perhaps beg for forgiveness, for perhaps the fifth or sixth time that day. Maybe seventh.

Blinking, Arthur was at a loss of words for a moment. Why was China calling him on Alfred's cell? It didn't make much sense. After all, China was a communist nation and Alfred tended to feel a sense of superiority over them. To be willing to help China seemed...odd.

"Ah, um..." Arthur shook his head, biting his lip. "One moment, please," he murmured, not sure what to do. He covered the phone's speaker with his palm, glancing up at Japan.

"Um...China heard you were ill. He wants to know how you are," he murmured, feeling very awkward. He supposed he could relate to China, worrying after a person they had raised even if the ties had shattered between them. But...he had been on the other side, as well, and knew how difficult it could be to even acknowledge the worry.

Letting out another string of coughs, Kiku wordlessly took the phone from Arthur. What was he going to say to China? He wanted to rebuild their relationship as siblings, so...now was a good as a time as any to try. Clearing his throat, Kiku made a move to open and close his mouth a few times, unsure of what to say. Finally, after a while, Kiku took in a deep breath and began to speak.

"Konnichiwa, Chugoku-san..." Kiku murmured softly, somewhat unsure of what he was saying, "How did you know I was ill? More importantly, why are you calling from Alfred-san's cell phone?"

In all honesty, the Japanese man was confused on why Alfred had allowed China to use his cellphone. After all, China was communist and, therefore, not in the American's good books. Besides, China was also good friends with Russia, which added up another strike of negativity in Alfred's books. Maybe the American was changing, which make Kiku realize that he should probably change for the better as well.

"Hai, I am ill," Kiku relied to China, "Demo, it's not as bad as it seems..."

Perhaps contradicting his words, Kiku began another string of heavy coughs, pulling the phone away from his face so that it wouldn't get covered in germs. After his coughing fit was over, Kiku returned the phone to his ear, looking at Arthur and silently asking for a glass of water.

Flashing a look of concern at Kiku, Arthur bit his lip. He was correct in realizing how difficult this must be for him. A rift as wide as the one between them must be hard to even contemplate closing. After all, Arthur had initially doubted that he and Francis could even be in the same room as the other without there being severe hostilities. But...if he could speak civilly with Francis (rarely), Kiku could probably do a much better job with reconciling with China.

When Kiku coughed, the Brit felt a flash of recognition pass through him. Since the World Wars, Arthur had dealt with his fair share of sicknesses. He nodded slightly, holding up a finger to indicate he'd be back within the minute, before leaving the room.

It'd probably be easier for Kiku to talk to China in private, he believed. It was one of the things he and Kiku had in common; they were both rather private individuals. Which, mixed with his blasted pride, made Arthur unfortunately excel at isolating himself.

Walking into the kitchen, he selected a glass from the cupboard and filled it with water. Not tap, since it was rather...well, bad. He instead selected the water jug he had in the fridge, having done the little he could do to purify it. It wasn't mountain spring, but it was decent.

A feeling of awkwardness overcame him when he reentered the room and held out the glass to Kiku. He felt like he was intruding.

That had not sounded healthy at all, and neither was it very assuring. However, Yao decided to answer the younger nation's questions first, before enquiring any more into how his health really was. 'Well, I struck up conversation with Alfred, and he told me that you had left the meeting and had fallen sick, after I enquired after his own wellbeing, aru.'

As for the second question, it didn't occur to the Chinese man that there was something most likely wrong with him borrowing the American's phone (he was too worried about Kiku to remember the details of the Communism/Democracy issue at this moment). 'He was kind enough to allow me to borrow his phone when I asked him. And it seems it was for a good reason, too... That sounded awful.' His own tone had fallen to a softened sound, somewhat resembling the way he'd used to speak to Kiku as a small child. However, he had enough respect for the man to not speak as smotheringly as he used to.

'K- ... Japan...' He trailed off, unsure of exactly how to put this. It was awkward, of that he could be certain, though he couldn't help but want to worry for the Japanese nation. 'I... I worry about you, aru. I'm sorry if that's overbearing, or out of place... Or something like that, but...' He glanced at Alfred, wondering whether Arthur still felt the same for the lad as he did before they'd split... Though he supposed that the American wouldn't know either way.

'No matter what... I've always been proud of you.' It was a quiet confession, As if he was unsure as to whether it was appropriate or not.

However, it was true... Even at the time when Japan had attacked him whilst he -Yao- was unarmed... It was something that Kiku had needed to do to break away from the older nation, Yao had realised after a little thought, and he supposed it had been for the good of his own nation, to become independent like that... And, although Yao had been left scarred and hurt by the whole affair... He knew he'd brought it upon himself.

There was nothing, really, that the Chinese man could ever hold against his sibling.
