"Alright, I'll be right back," Richie said, struggling to stand up as Maryse came down from her stretch. He made his way down the hall and asked where he could find Jean-Mark. Someone told him tht he would probably be at the embassy two blocks away.

"Thanks," Richie said, making his way back to Maryse, "I gotta talk to Jean-Mark at the embassy. You comin'? Or are you gonna look around some?"

Maryse shrugged and followed Richie as he hobbled off in the direction of the embassy. She had to slow her pace so that Richie could keep up. "You really shouldn't have come back for me," she said, referencing the the incident with the wolves in the woods, "If you hadn't, your leg would be fine."

She still found it amusing: he had come to save her, and she ended up saving him instead.

Richie thought about what Maryse said for a moment as he walked. He noticed a bunch of little kids playing in what appeared to be the front lawn of someone's shelter. He remmbered back when the world was normal, before everything happened.

"Because, we have watch out for each other. I went back for you last night, knowing I was probably going to die. But I didn't care if I died. I just wanted to make sure you were aright and would get to safety," Richie said as he hobbled past the little kids, smiling and waving at them as he passed. They looked at him quizically, and he could tell they were probably really hungry. He paused a moment, taking off his backpack and pulling out some candy. The kids saw this, running over. Richie handed out all his candy to the kids, who ran off laughing and happy as they ate their candy.

"That doesn't make any sense," Maryse replied, "Why would you do that? Why would you risk your life for me? For all you knew, I was already dead and you were running into the woods for no reason, risking your life for nothing. Isn't one of us surviving better than both of us dying?"

She watched as Richie stopped to offer a bunch of hungry children some candy from his bag. She smiled slightly, almost imperceptibly. His kindness was touching. Touching, but stupid. He'd already proven how useful candy could be in a world with limited resources. "Well," she said, "so much for our 'bargaining chips'."

"C'mon, don't be like that. I can make some more special smokes, that's all we need for barganning chips," Richie said, using his fingers to air quote the word special, "And yes, one of us surviving is better than both dying. But, I don't know. Something just...told me you were alive, but I didn't know if you could get to safety or not. That's why I went after you. I wanted to make sure you got to safety, even if it meant I didn't," Richie said, looking Maryse in the eye as he spoke.

Maryse blinked. "Why?" she asked again. She wanted, wanted so badly, so say that she wouldn't have done the same for him. But she couldn't. She wasn't sure it was true. Besides, didn't she run off in search of him when she'd heard him screaming? Wasn't she criticizing him for doing the same thing she'd done?

"I don't know...it's just...I had this feeling, like if I lost you, I didn't know what I would do," Richie said, thinking as he spoke, not knowing what else to say. He really didn't know why he went after her. It went against every common sense survival instinct. But, there was this feeling inside him that made him go after her. He didn't know where the feeling came from or what it was.

when Ryu caught up with allen he was talking to Damon and Wolfie. "Well looks like that the gang is back together" he looked at their dogs "And Kallik has a new friend now"

She hug ryan and allen smiling. "How ya'll doing?"

"So, let's head on over to the living quarters," Richie said as he continued walking, "What d'ya think they have for us? A Condo? The Presidential Suite?" Richie joked to Maryse, hobbling down the street to where the living quarters they had been told about were located.

Damon smiled seeing Allan."Hey man."he said to him stretching and briefly an outline of his pistol showed itself and then he noticed and stopped stretching."So..."

"Whatdya' think they have for us? A condo? A presidential suite?"

Richie was joking, but Maryse wasn't laughing. "I don't know," she said. It was true. She didn't. She had no idea what was in store for them now. She was nervous. She ran a hand through her hair. She was still getting used to how short it was, how incredibly short it was. It had never been this short before.

They walked, guided by a series of bright yellow signs that indicated the direction of the Quarter, the section of the city where the civilians lived. As they walked, a song popped into Maryse's head. Flunk's cover of New Order's 'Blue Monday'. She hummed the intro, then began to sing the lyrics. Her singing voice was soft and smooth, unlike her speaking voice. "How does it feel, to treat me like you do?" she sang, her accent making the song seem a little more exotic, "When you laid your hands upon me and told me who you are, I thought I was mistaken. I thought I heard your words. Tell me how do I feel? Tell me now, how do I feel?"

She didn't sing very often, but when she did, she enjoyed it. She enjoyed it so much that she forgot Richie was walking, hobbling, right beside her.

Damon smiled seeing Allan."Hey man."he said to him stretching and briefly an outline of his pistol showed itself and then he noticed and stopped stretching."So..."

"So...whats the 411?" She look at jorden holding his hand and then look at ryan and allen her head cocked to the side smiling a little. The dog barked jumpin gup and down around them and che chuckled.

"I dunno,this life is a safe one I suppose but its so boring around here,wolfie you score a job?"He asked looking at her,He stretched but didn't let go of her hand he smiled at Ryu and Allan meeting their gaze."You noticing nature's taking over out in the wastes?"he said mentioning the fact that some of the buildings were covered with plants.

As they turned the corner down the street where the Quarters were, Richie noticed Maryse singing. He listened for a moment or two, trying to recognize the tune, but he couldn't place it.

"Hey, Maryse, what song is that?" Richie asked, moving behind her as a man walked down the half of the sidewalk he was on so he could pass.
