This is kinda interesting if you're thinking about writing up a character that's pretty strong as well as the drawing aspects. Good info on body builds for guyses. 3nodding

He's got most of it right, except the flexibility thing.

Flex Wheeler (IFBB bodybuilder, competed for Mr. O a lot in the 90s) can do the full splits, and even did them on stage during one of his routines. Or, as a more recent example, Kai Greene. The dude can breakdance and he's pushing 250-300 lb most of the time in bodyweight, mostly muscle.

So.. yeah. Bulk doesn't do a whole lot to impede flexibility as long as they maintain or actively train it. And a few people do train for strength AND mass. Being a bodybuilder does mean that you're not as strong as your size suggests, but you're no push over in strength either.

Other than that, he's spot on.

Other than that, he's spot on.

Aside from the other part in that same segment, which says that strength (and flexibility, as you covered) and speed of movement are exclusive. Strong muscles mean more explosive power behind movement, which aids in both spontaneous movement and dashing speed. However, no matter how much starting power there is mass is still mass, which is why you see heavier fullbacks than halfbacks (as long as I'm not mixing up the two positions) because one is used for hitting fast and hard and the other still needs to be able to maneuver side to side when being chased and reached at.

Obviously if it's showy muscle, as stated, that is more about bulk and looking strong than actually being strong it will get in the way (which was what was implied by the flexibility statement) and make movements more difficult. Think of it as walking around in winter clothes compared to summer clothes all the time. There's not a great deal of difference but the bulk and weight are still there.

Oh yeah, there are some scarily fast big athletes out there.

Brock Lesnar comes to mind. Dude walks around at 260 and can shoot very, very quickly.

Makes me want to watch videos of the Strongman competitions where they juggle pianos and throw American cars for distance.

Muscles. Who needs 'em.

Certainly not the QUEEN BEE.

But for guys like me who spend all day moving desks and tables and mattresses into a trailer JUST SO YOU HAVE SOMEWHERE TO PUT YOUR PLATE AT DINNER muscles tend to help.

Dee.
