I keep revisiting areas. The Blacksmith in 2-1 can apparently turn my Kiliji into a Tearing Kiliji, which causes bleeding and poison. Seems like he can do a lot more with weapons than the Nexus blacksmith can.

Yeah, the blacksmith in 2-1 is pretty much essential. I also notice that a lot of areas have a really easy first level, then gets harder on the second one.

My soldier just recently learned to heal himself, so my character is pretty awesome. Short of getting gangbanged by unblockable attacks from mundane enemies while getting shot by stingrays.

I also went back to fight Flamelurker with the flame shield thing. He'd be a lot easier if he didn't have about 2000 health and my sword did more than 30 damage a hit. That and he just does the two-handed explosion attack which drains my stamina to 0 while blocking, knocks me down, and does a quarter of my health in damage.

The only healing I have is a shield, which only blocks 90% of damage and can't be upgraded. I still haven't managed to get to Flamelurker, but that could be because I can't find my way around that damn maze. I did manage to unlock the door to and find the Old King in 1-1, which I think I mentioned before.

I went back to him again.

I did two damage with one sword strike, and he sworded through my shield to the point where it broke my guard, drained all my stamina, and left me with such a small sliver of health I thought I had died and didn't realize it until he hit me with the follow-up.

Magic really helps against him since he's so physically powerful.

And I just realised that I probably should switch over to gloom armor for 5-2, since I cant roll in the swamp anyway, so getting killed in 2 hits by giant goblin things isnt very fun when you cant didge. I might as well just up my damage resistance, since the gloom armor a good has poison resistance to the swamp. And also poison resisting ring, because its not like sneaking is helping my in world 5 anyway.

Also: So you mean it isn't possible to sword your way through the game? That's a shame.

And I've been swording my way through the game, and it's worked out pretty well so far. Just got a ring that gives me incredibly slow health regeneration, but at least I don't have to lug around a shield to do it anymore.

Meat cleaver is a monster. 300+ damage a hit, plus knockdown, so you get some more free hits.

Oh... I guess if I wear this ring of great strength, it'll up my equip weight, so I can wear heavy armor and still roll or something?

As far as I can tell you can roll no matter what. I think equip weight has something to do with how effective you are at it - the more weight you have, the longer the roll takes, your controller vibrates, and you hear a "thud."

Just found a Crescent Falchion +1 on 4-1, past one of the dual katana skeletons. Physical damage isn't that great, but it has bonus magic damage that seems to balance it out pretty well.
