Wait, wat? Are you trying to tell me that the Wii doesn't print money?

Especially when the DS is the most pirated console out there, beating out even the PSP somehow?

Turns out APB's car editor is good for something after all.

Let's break it down.

Wii: Gimmicky controls and a low price point made it a strong seller for the first three years of it's existence, but now that everyone has one and they're catching on to the fact that there's nothing besides "_____ Party" to play on it, most of them are collecting dust.

DS: It still prints money. A couple of years ago Nintendo was insisting that the DS and Game Boy would be their "two pillars" of portables. Then they got smart and let the Game Boy rest in peace. Meanwhile there's a new DS every two years.

PS3: About halfway through it's projected ten-year life cycle, developers are probably reaching the limit of graphical / AI capabilities they can squeeze out of it. So they turned to gimmicky controls to extend the life of the unit, like the Move, which promises motion controls on an HD system. Also pushing 3D TV support as the future of gaming.

PSP: Consistent runner-up to the DS, the PSP Go was a miserable failure, yet there's still an insistence that the system is the future of portable gaming. A constant game of catch-up to whatever Nintendo is doing, seemingly.

360: See PS3, but replace "Move" with "Kinect," and remove the part about 3D.

Also this:

I think that about covers it.

Yeah, that does sum it up pretty well. Though not sure if the AI thing is so true. And graphics do seem to get better by the game on the 360 anyways.

Also the move seems more like a direct rip of the Wii than Kinect.

Edit: Catering to casual gamers as well aside.

I'M THE ONE TALKING HERE, YOU SHUT UP SIR.

I mean. You have a point. Seriously though. I'm a little skeptical about the AI; I've seen improvements in the technology that drives it, for example, the Euphoria engine. But I have yet to see anything that makes me feel like I'm playing against a computer that's smart and reacting to how I play. Except Modnation Racers, which interprets "player is winning" to "make sure player is destroyed."

And I completely agree that the Move is more of a rip-off than the Kinect is; however, all three major consoles now have something that has you standing in front of your screen flailing around like an idiot to control games. The only difference is one of them has been doing it for longer than the others. Don't get me wrong, I have high hopes for it's capabilities, it's just that of the fifteen announced games for the Kinect, four are exercise games, and at least two are party games. The stuff that made me interested in the technology, like controlling Burnout Paradise by moving your foot and holding a pretend wheel, are nowhere to be seen.

I would think a driving game would be more effective with something physical there. Both in the control department and the "immersion" department.

Also that girl looked kind of dumb while demo-ing Joyride.

Oh yeah, not saying they're both not basically a rip off, and like I said, both are pretty much to extend the 360 and PS3 market to the casual gamers that Wii has.

But yeah, I agree. The main thing that interests me about it is what it can do with normal games. Bioware have said they're interested in doing Mass Effect with it. And there is a Star Wars game coming out with it too I think.

For someone who loves games, I've always been skeptical, is all. I've never been impressed by tech demos. The biggest thing I'm excited about is Metal Gear Rising because of the fact that I've been waiting years to actually get a game where things are cut along the exact trajectory of the sword swing.

Also it's fun to watch the fans and trolls argue over why it's on the 360.

Also, logged into APB to play around with the music maker so that I can be more effective with it after they wipe the game and it comes out for real.

Yesterday I had 12 minutes of Action District time left.

Today it's back to 5 hours.
