Mmmkay. I hate to ask this, but I'd really appreciate some techie input in this.

I'm looking to get a laptop to replace my "OhMyGodYouStillHaveThat?" Gateway Solo circa 1999 (at best). I had just about chosen an Acer Aspire 3003Lci from newegg.com (if you don't know newegg...tch! What's wrong with you?), when I saw an ad for a Compaq laptop with all the features I want, plus it's about $150 less than the Acer.

Question: Compaq has had some really nasty reviews regarding breakdown and repair rates; is it worth paying the extra money for something that won't commit suicide? Or, more to the point, which is better: Acer or Compaq?

Thanks to anyone who can actually answer that. heart

Alucard - xd !! They might even give you a medal to go along with that...

Akahoshi's right, though. She owns all of me. (Except for my soul; Nyome owns that.)

Akahoshi - Oh, we always have something "fun" in my house... Today, it was squash...

Memai - o.O Wooh... I'm going to have to give up my title of Rant Queen pretty soon. whee Yeah, people like that drive me nuts.

...too shiny...ouch...

QA - Yume I am, Yume I be, a silly QA the Yume does see. ninja

Ryuu - Definitely not giving up. 3nodding

OH, RIGHT! ORNAMENTS!

Grab that. Decorate it. And post it in GASOC so I can put it on a tree...

There is no Akahomas thread at this time...and I have to work today... xp

Alucard - I own Langs' soul, so stay clear of that.

QA - I have far too many life stories, that have away of working into conversations. Not to mention my theories on the world, and plans to take over the world. (One includes a pencil tree)

Memai - I love your style... well actually I love your art in general. And I'm glad your not going to change your style. It's always better not to be a sheep.

Ryuu - I'm not worried about squat, I just live each day as it comes, without really caring about the outcome. Thus my life just cruises by perfectly.

AD - As far as your laptop questions go, I'll put my three cents in. To be honest I'm not the biggest fan of Compaq anything, I've personally had no good experences with them, but on the other hand I know people that swear by them saying that there just as good and cost less. On the Acer side of thing, well my current PC is an Acer with a couple of add-ons, and I haven't had any problem with it. And well the last time I had the urge to by a laptop I was going to get an Acer. (never bought one though)

Pretty much it's really come down to personal prefrence. Plus you seem to done a little reasearch and your smart enough to make the best desision for you. But me personally, I'd go with the Acer.

Ryuu >> Hurr! You should update a lot xd I stalk your blog nearly everyday (I know I don't leave comments ;3; I'm sorry~).

And HUR! You know I like to listen to your opinions/comments/thoughts! You can PM it to me...or email it...or something! OwO;;

xd heart *huggle*

I should, should'nt I? and you stalk my blog? omg cool! and it's okay, most of the posts I put in my blog don't really give much of an argument to comment upon, so it's ok.

and anyway, I would only say that everyone's got their style and is what makes us different from the rest. I think that our originality should be more important to us than how everyone else sees our art. We can all venture out into other styles [like I did when I tried out realism, you gotta see those pics when I update my site] and if you feel comfortable with it, you can always merge this into your style, but I don't think you should try out styles just because the it appeals the rest. At least I draw because it brings me satisfaction, wether if the rest likes them or not, its only like a bonus or an extra.

It better to be a real nobody than a fake somebody I always think. I mean, its better to be yourself, than to be someone that appeals the rest but your not comfortable with. Keeping your style is keeping yourself.

Hoshi: hey everyone's got their way to live, no way is wrong. In my case I like to plan things a little but not too much ahead, cause you never know when you're gonna die. If it works for you, then I think you're doing what's right. Sadly it all f's up for me if I try to live like that, so I can't afford to.

AD! Omg ornamets! thanX~! heart

This leads me to be concerned. >_>;;

Reeyoo~ Yeah, I escaped with my nail intact. xD Thankfully. I don't klnow what I'd do if I lost it. ; ; I'd be that much less...effective. *Cough.*

Memai~ Omg no. Just no. gonk Yours is that much more prettyful. But I can't help but like the hair on the first one... *Executed.* x_s

AD~ I really wouldn't know, but the Acer sounds alot better. If the Compaq breaks down like they say, then wouldn't you end up spending the money you saved to fix it? I dunno, that's just me. :B

Akahoshi - Thanks for the input. The only real reason I'm still considering the Compaq is that it's smaller and has an S-Video output.

...gah. I'm THIS close to keeping my ancient Gateway...

Ryuu - YOU'RE WELCOME!

Lang - If I can find time to post regularly, so can you. talk2hand

Koji - That's a valid point. I'm not sure I want it to come down to luck.

Plus, you know...the very fact that someone bought the domain of "compaqsucks.com" has me worried.

AD - When it come to people and computer your going to see lots of bad things, since most people have strong opinions on brands. That way I tend not to listen and go with what I need and what I think about it. But my next computer is going to be an Apple PowerBook.

Akahoshi - That's true. No matter what, someone's going to have a computer that ate Windows, or vice-versa, and they're going to be pissed.

Ughgughg. I refuse to go Apple. ********. *twitch*

I don't even know where this anger comes from...I just won't get one.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 04, 2005 3:35 pm
I'm the same way. A friend of mine in college has an ibook or powerbook or whatever the hell and he says they're the best things in the world. But...it's Apple. I actually have valid reasons other than inexplicable prejudice though. By the time I have to buy a new laptop to replace this one I'd be in college. College = really fast internet = LAN parties like whoa. Apple = no games.

But for the most part it is true isn't it? If not I'd be interested in hearing how you can get most pc games to work on a mac (in an EASY way, I've been through emulation and all that on linux). I'll give you this though, Shiro made a really good point. If I ever have a few hundred bucks to blow, I'd love to get an apple to learn how to do video editing, and I'm interested as to these options for artists.
