So, since I moved last year my books have all been packed away and sitting in a storage shed. This makes me super sad because I miss my books! They're like trophies that need to be displayed! Not only that, but before I moved I went on a book buying rampage and cleaned out every bargain bin, yard sale and thrift shop in the area. Now I can't read all of those beautiful new (at least to me they are) paper goldmines! They're just waiting in storage boxes for a new home to rest on. Normally, my book boxes would have been one of the first things I unpacked. There's just one problem...

My collection no longer fits in my bookcase. gonk

So I searched for some cheap shelving units to match the one I already own. Then comes two more problems. My space is limited! So, I figured floor to ceiling shelves are the way to go. Then guess what... I couldn't find any tall shelving systems that were in my budget and also matched my pre-existing décor.

So my challenge to you is to come up with some unique ways to shelve books. I was hoping to create something on my own. I need a unit that is durable and free standing, as I cannot anchor it to the walls or floor of my place. And being the creative and crafty person I am, I'm looking for some fun ways to customize this project. Standard bookcases are great but they're a little boring for my taste.

Here's an example of what I'm looking for:

PVC pipe shelves can be cut to whatever size necessary, painted to match any décor, and made to be freestanding. A big bonus; I could add on to the unit if needed later. Plus, it's unique!

So can you think of any other fun storage units for books and movies?
