A Reluctant Killer

Bana nodded at Yuki then looked around for a good place to set the scythe cause it would be to hard to carry wood and it. Bana finnally desided to set it against a tree so it was upright and didnt look like it would balance well but stayed as it was set. "Please dont let anything happen to it Miss Irene and Mister Niko" Bana said almost sheepishly not fully liking leaving it alone but knowing it would be safe with them. Bana then ran over next to Yuki and smiled ready to collet wood.

Yuki smiled. "Let's go then." She left the clearing, looking around the bases of the trees. "Let's try and find wood that's already dead, okay?" She said to Bana. "No sense in cutting down living things if it isn't neccessary." She started picking up a few branches severed already from the trees.




Niko crouched down beside her as she searched around in her back. "Um... Fish?" He said, tilting his head slightly to one side. He hadn't had fish in a while, he wasn't sure if he remembered the taste. It wasn't as if he could just go fishing whenever he wanted.

"Okay." Bana nodded then looked around and started to pick up pieces of wood. As Bana picked up one piece of wood she noticed a small spider on the end of it.

Flashback

Bana a couple years younger crying on the floor of a rundown barn as a spider hung from its string a little bit in front of her.
Listu walks in and looks at Bana annoyed. “Why are you crying Bana?” Listu asked as knelt down next to her.
Bana sniffed and rubbed her eyes. “Th-the spi-spider,” Bana said choking on sobs as half pointed to it.
Listu looked at the spider not seeing any reason at all for crying at it. “What did it bite you?”
“N-no”
“They why are you crying?” Listu asked agitated
“Be-because its sca-scary,”
“Any why in the world would you be afraid of it? Its smaller than you and you are much stronger that it. Its being alive doesn’t threaten your life at all. There’s nothing to be afraid of.” Listu watched the spider climb back up its string as Bana stared at her unsure of what to say. “Besides if there was something to really be afraid of crying is the worst thing you could do. Do you really think if something wanted to kill you sitting down and crying would stop it?” Listu asked as looked back down to meet Banas tear swollen eyes.
Bana shook her head no as a response and looked down toward the ground.
Listu sighed and patted Bana on the head trying to be a little more mother like. “Bana if something’s wrong don’t waste your time crying about it. Crying never helps anything and is nothing but a waste of time. If something scares you or you don’t like, ether go away from it or kill it.”
Bana looked up at Listu and nodded.

End flashback.

Bana set the piece of wood back down and walked off to find a different piece of wood. ‘Mommies got to be fine, she’s to strong to turn into another dead person.’ Bana thought reassuring herself as searched for wood.

Yuki was quick to find wood, soon carrying a pile in her arms. She watched over Bana carefully as they looked for more, wanting to make sure she didn't wander off by herself. She loved little children, and was already very protective over Bana as if she was her little sister. Noticing as Bana put a piece of wood back down, she frowned slighlty in concern. "Bana, is something bothering you?" She sked gently.




Niko watched with interest as she controlled the flame without any trouble. He smiled slightly; she was getting better. When she offered him the fish, he reached out and took it from her, their fingertips touching for a brief instant. A jolt ran through him, making his heart race and some color appear in his ghost-like skin. He tried the fish, and found it to be very tasty. He smiled. "It's good. I haven't had fish in a long time, so I wasn't sure if I remembered the taste..."

Bana looked up at Yuki then looked toward the ground embarrased. "I...I dont like spiders..." Bana said ashamed that something that much smaller than her would cause her to be so nervous. "Mommy already told me how stupid it was..." Bana shifted the wood she was holding slightly waiting to hear some kind of lecture about it.
