He had been especially mood lately, spending most of his time alone, dwelling on his own thoughts away from his parents den, hidden from the annoyances of younger siblings. It seemed the world he had once know was turned upside down. Not only had he suddenly found himself an older brother to four siblings, but it seemed no sooner had he finished reeling from that shock than he was thrust into adulthood, and then his own sister had found a mate and had her own cubs. His sister, Sheshe'Kani, had cubs, cubs, his sister had had SEX! His SISTER! He could not have explained just how wrong that was, how could his sister have cubs?
Unlike his sister, Shin'Jougen was still innocent in many ways, thought his body had matured his mind had not. Though he had long since grown out of his 'ewww! girls!" stage, he had yet to accept an interest in the opposite gender, his only thoughts of cubs was that were a pain in the rear and he never wanted them (though perhaps that was the result of his apparent role as his parents favorite cub sitter).
His sighed to himself, rolling to his side, one paw batting at a small stone nestled within the grass. How could his sister of all lions had cubs? He just couldn't fathom it, was he the only one in his family who made any sense anymore? Maybe being surrounded by so many girls had messed up all their heads. hmph!

Kimya was enjoying the new found pride life, even it was uncertainly right now. The constant buzz and presence of others was still a little unnerving, but she was adjusting to that very slowly. She wondered what her daughter thought of these lands though.
It was a dark figure lying in the grass that caught her vivid blue eyes then, and probably only that because he was... sort of lying right in her line of walking. She paused, and for an instant actually wondered if she should go around or draw closer and simply dare to speak up.
........
Well, a few minutes later did find her hesitantly closing the distance, her voice softly breaking the relative silence.
"Hello...?"

Ears twitched at the unfamiliar voice, tail flicking against the earth, disrupting the insects scurrying about in the rustling grass. He lifted his head, glancing toward the voice, golden eyes settling on the unfamiliar form. Oh, it was a girl, like he really wanted to talk to a girl, he dealt with enough of those at home, which wasn't improving his opinion of them.
"Hi..."
His head flopped back to the grassy earth, long mane falling over his eyes to obscure his vision though he didn't seem to care. His paw again occupied with the nearby stone, he let out a soft huff, voice falling to a quiet mutter.
"What do you want?"

"Not to be a bother... but I was hoping maybe... you could show me which way the nearest river or watering hole is?" She dared to ask, speaking up quietly, though seemingly not disheartened by his broody behavior at all. She was used to that, her brother was often that way even if he tended to be softer for his sister and mother.

"It's--"
He paused in his words, turning to look up at her again, a look of mild curiosity in his eyes. He had been about to say 'it's over there' and merely point the way, that was before it dawned on that this lioness must have new to the pridelands or she would not have asked such a question. He had never seen her before, which was not surprising in such a large pride, but as the young adult was often inclined to wander the lands on his own, he at least caught site of most members.
"You're not from around here are you?"
Well that question had an obvious answer, but he supposed there was always the chance she had been hiding under a rock somewhere, girls were weird like that.
"Yeah alright, fine."
Rolling to his paws, he pushed himself from the ground, limbs stretching in turn followed by a shaking of the sand from his hide. May as well show her the way he supposed, not like he had anything better to do.
"It's this way."

"Ah- no, I'm not..." Kimya replied quietly, slipping into pace beside and slightly behind him, eyes glancing at him a bit curiously. "Well... technically yes. I've lived just beyond these lands for my entire life, but... I've never actually seen any of the landmarks up close with my own eyes before."
She did not offer a name right off, not to be rude, but, once again due to past encounters. She didn't even realize that she hadn't, and really it was probably not a big deal anyway. She would doubt if he cared even if she did realize.

"Sure, if you say so."
There was a mutter under his breath that may have been a 'whatever' if the word had been loud enough to distinguish. Why had he agreed to this again? Wasn't this kind of thing the job of the scouts? Maybe that lion his sister had taken as a mate should be the one doing this, but they were probably busy screwing around. Hmph! His -sister-!
He snorted bitterly, tail flicking with a sharp snap. Eyes barely watched his path, paws carrying him to the water hole without much thought. Right, may as well say something, not like she could be any weirder than the rest of the girls he knew.
"You have a name?"

"I'm... sorry if I'm being a bother... My name is Kimya,"
Well, it certainly seemed that way, at least. And no, that really wasn't her full name, but she didn't think he'd really care to learn her full name anyway. Not at this rate. She kept her eyes cast towards Shin's paws as they walked for a moment, then let them roam higher. He had coloring and a marking very similar to the head scout that brought her into the Pridelands. They both seemed to have that same abrupt mannerism about them as well.
"... I can't help but notice, you... you have a very striking resemblance to the head scout, Mosi... are you related...?"
It wasn't just personality and appearance either, but scent. Families often smelled of one another, but different. That was what she detected from this one.

"It's not a bother."
No, of course it wasn't a bother, why on earth would it be a bother? He snorted, flicking a small stone from his path with a forepaw. What was it with girls anyways...stupid sister.
He had not heard her words at first, following the path to the water without looking back, lost in his own thoughts. It was the mention of his mother's name that caught his attention, pawsteps pausing for a moment as he looked back at the lioness.
"She's my mother."
Great, this lioness knew his mother, great, perfect, what was she going to tell her about him and how much more trouble was he going to end up in?
"The water is just over there, not much further."
Indicating the direction with a jerk of his head, paws moved forward again, toward the foliage that drew closer with each step, marking the nearby pool.

When he looked back the lioness was simply staring at the boy in shock. Mosi was his MOTHER??
She would have guessed sister! She'd never met a mother that acted so... outspoken before! Her dear, sweet mother was reserved, proud, quiet, warm and affectionate, and playful even, but never boisterous like Mosi. It wasn't a -bad- thing, but it came as quite the shock!
Kimya quickly hurried to follow then though. When she thought about it it made sense. She got the feeling Mosi was younger than her, not just by behavior, but just a vibe in general. That was part of the reason that learning Mosi had children was such a surprise.
"O-oh, I see."
But Kimya fell silent with that, thinking perhaps he would prefer if she kept quiet. Something was bothering him, for sure, and she couldn't be certain that it wasn't her prattling.

The lioness' shock was lost on him, too lost in his own thoughts to notice anyone else's. Not that he would have gotten it even if he had noticed, after all as Mosi's son, he was the least likely to find it surprising she had children. And while some may have thought her unusual, to Shin she was perfectly normal, well at least as normal as was possible for a girl.
The last yards of the walk passed in silence, broken only by an occational snort. It was when he reached the water's edge that he stopped, only then turning to look at the lioness again (she could have stopped following several yards back and he likely would not have noticed for all the attention he was paying, lost in his sulking mood).
"Here, knock yourself out."
He might have thought of wandering off the instant they reached the water, returning to his own brooding in the middle of the grassy plain. But if he did have such a thought it was quickly lost, instead flopping on the bank himself, eyes reflected on the mirror surface, watching the shadows of fish beneath the surface.

Reaching the water's edge, Kimya drew a few steps closer, staring the water down for a few moments before leaning in and taking a few laps at it.
As the refreshing liquid slid down her throat she shut her eyes, tail lashing a little behind her with thought.
This new place, wonderous as it was, was home now.
"I wonder what Kamal and Hakan would say..." She murmured to herself quietly, settling down on her haunches to stare at her reflection.

An ear twitched, paw stilling in the water, a moment of escape for the fish he had just been batting at.
"You say something?"
It was a wonder he had heard her at all, or maybe he hadn't heard anything. Perhaps it had just been nothing but his own thoughts, or no more than the rustle of insects disturbed by his flicking tail.
He may have simply dismissed it, the fish at least wouldn't run off and leave their older brother behind for the sake of some other lion and have cubs. Or maybe they would, there were girl fish after all. So then why did he speak further and ask his own question, why did he even care?
"Why'd you come here anyways?"

"Oh... it's nothing..." She dismissed softly, trailing off. She was sure he wouldn't pry. Too dismissive.
She licked her lips to collect the dripping moisture from her fur, glancing over at him at his question, then shifting her weight so that she could angle at a conversational distance.
"I wanted to find a home for my daughter. I worried about what would happen to her. It's very dangerous past the borders alone, and... it's always been just the two of us."
Kimya calmly looked away, staring distantly. She didn't ask why he wanted to know, it wasn't so important and whatever his reasons were, they were his. She already opted to share the information and thus waved any real right to privacy.

He watched her a moment, paw returning to the water, small droplets sparkling in the sun as they were displaced by the scattering fish. Did all girls mumble? Though if he thought about it, he did his fair share of mumbling he guessed.
"Oh, so you didn't leave anyone behind?"
So this lioness had cubs too? What was up with girls and their need for cubs anyways? All the girls he knew had cubs, what was so special about cubs anyways? They were just annoying little balls of fluff. Hmph!
Of course he didn't hate cubs, Shin was far to gentle a creature to hate anyone, and he did enjoy the company of his little brother, and though he'd never admit it, his sisters as well. In reality he was only angry with one lioness, but that didn't stop him from being a moody little brat, not that he would ever admit to being such.
