Like any young Pridelands lion, Shin was curious about the Elephant Graveyard. In his whole life, he'd never had the chance to act upon the wonder of it. He now took the chance, free of his father's anger. As he slid down an embankment, he noticed pawprints in the ground, long ago worn there by treading paws. What filled him with surprise was that they were lion paw prints, not hyena as one expected. Marveling at it, he continued on over a large tusk.

It seemed she never got a chance to relax without somebody intruding... Schatz watched from an elephant skull as a lion entered the graveyard, and nearly did a double-take. It looked like one of those accursed lions that had taken up to living in their land, but... Not quite the same. She couldn't help the curiosity as she followed after, tail curled slightly. White mane covering her bad eye, she watched the adolescent lion. The eye twitched, remembering the paw that had greeted it, and her lips curled back in a silent snarl. He was not being treated well.

A geyser to his right roared as hot air and mist escaped, casting an eerie glow upon everything. Shin jumped in surprise, then poked his head over the vent when it stopped. Everything here was just a wonder waiting to be discovered! He suddenly whirled around, hearing something behind him. Were there really hyenas living here...? He backed up, bumping into the skull of an elephant. "Who's there?!"

Steping through the mist of a geyser, Schatz let out a whooping cackle. "Your worst nightmare, that's who! Who do you think you are, little lion, to come into OUR land?" Her grin was replaced by a sneer, though she didn't attack. Rather... She moved closer, examining him. "Who are your parents? Tell me and I might not kill you..."

Pressing against the skull, Shin watched the bone-marked hyena warily. "T-toshiro and Tufani... My mother's from the Pridelands, b-but my father's a rogue..." Oh, he hoped that was the right answer! Swallowing, he scrambled over a tusk, watching the hyena warily. White-tipped tail flicking, he found himself against a wall. The last thing he wanted was to die!

Both eyes narrowed to slits as the hyena let out a snarl. "Toshiro..." She practically spit the name out, tail up and hackles raised. "So you're the spawn of one of those filthy Maziko. You carry their filthy blood... That was the wrong answer, kid!" With something akin to a roar, the hyena jumped at him, teeth bared. Even with one eye, she could see the fear in his eyes.

Yelping in shock, Shin scrambled and ran. Not knowing the graveyard well, though, he soon found himself getting lost amid the bones. Every geyser hiss made him jump, and the ever-present whooping cackle of the hyena only made him run more. Coming to a dead end, Shin looked around for escape. But he was trapped, trapped like a hare in a small burrow. Hackles rasing up, he turned and faced the oncoming hyena.

Getting closer, Schatz grinned wide. "Nowhere to hide now, little lion..." In her eye glowed a positively murderous look, as well as the intent to do him in. Letting out another whooping cackle, Schatz charged up. She was met with resistance, but that didn't stop her from sinking her teeth into his shoulder. It was almost a clash of titans, and as close as she'd get to maiming one of the Maziko. But it was close enough for her tastes.

Shin let out a roar of pain and brought a paw up, sinking his claws into the hyena's shoulder. The teeth let go of his shoulder, and he brought up his other paw, smacking her in the face. Claws raked over flesh and fur, driving the hyena back. When she backed away, he took his oppertunity and ran. There was no way he was going to keep fighting a hyena! Scrambling up a hill of bones, he soon spied the skull he'd passed on his way in. He was free! Or he thought... An angry whoop directly behind him sent a chill down his spine and he ran for it.

Anger, pure and not-witheld, filled both of Schatz' eyes as she chased after Shin. Ears back, the bone-marked hyena ran full-tilt. Dark paws flew over the stone, dirt, and bones as she persued, fully intent on nabbing him. As they passed out of the Graveyard and partially into the Pridelands, she launched at the lion and tackled. Teeth flashed in the sunlight before they sank into an ear, trying to rip it clean off.

Letting out a full-out roar, Shin went into survival mode. His white paw flashed in the light a moment before the claws sank into the hyena's cheek. He couldn't twist his head around to bite, but he could still maim with claws. Twisting his body, he lashed out with his hind paws as well, kicking the hyena in the gut.

Schatz let out a yelp, letting go of the ear. Tumbling back, she glared at the lion, then got up. "This ain't over! I'm gonna come get you, and I'll feed you to my pups!" Spitting at him, she turned and ran back for the graveyard. Next time she faced a lion... She'd assure that she was an adult. Then... Then she could kill, then she could do more damage.

Shuddering, Shin got up and watched the hyena run. After a moment, he turned and headed back for the Pridelands. He was sore, bruised, and bleeding, but... He'd survived an encounter with a hyena. Limping slightly, he couldn't help but laugh. He'd just survived fighting with a hyena.. He had to tell Kabichi this one! Despite the pain in his limbs, he broke into a run.
