She'd not seen much of her siblings since the cubs were born, but now finally old enough to be left for short period's of time under other's watch, Kani was able to go hunt. Thank the ancestor's for Ukilia, who was always there to help watch the cubs when Kani was out and Bushido was too tired.
It was time to hunt, to bring home some fresh kill for both parents and their litter of five. They wouldn't stay on milk forever after all, and required real food now just like their caregivers. The only problem was, she'd need to bring down some large game to feed all seven of them, eight if you added Ukilia to the mix. That's why she was looking for one of her family members, or a familiar pride member to help with the hunt.
Her black paws carried her through the faded brown grasses, her tan pelt helping her blend. this would be a great advantage when it was time to stalk, she'd learned, a great advantage. It also made hide and seek a lot more challenging for the little ones, which always got a laugh out of Kani, much to their chagrin.

Shin'Jougen had grown increasingly moody, most of his time kept to himself away from his parents and younger siblings. That's not to say he had ignored them, he had still watched over the cubs as his parents needed and enjoyed the games he played with his sole brother. However his temper had grown short, and he had less interest in those things that had once enjoyed from morning until night.
He had retreated to his favorite hiding spot, one he had taken to from his cubhood, though it had taken him longer to find a way to reach the tall branches spreading from the magnificent tree the family called home. For now his younger siblings still had not learned to reach him here, though that would surely change before long.
Yawning, he dropped his head onto one paw, the other swatting at a twig of green leaves. It was boring, but it was shaded, and there really wasn't anything better to do, or he just didn't feel like looking.

She smelled her brother nearby, the cubs must've been out with Juhudi, or at least she hoped so so she could borrow her brother for a while.
"Shin? Are you up there?" She called up, craning her neck to try to see him in the branches somehow.

He hadn't noticed his sister's approach, he hadn't expected to hear her voice. Why would he, she had left. His ears twitched at the familiar voice, his head snapping to look down at her from his hidden perch, one he couldn't have hidden from her. For a moment, his heart leapt, as if the past few months had never happened and she was still home, and then it sank as he remembered. Oh...yeah...she had a mate and cubs, she didn't live here anymore.
"What do you want?"
His voice was harsher than he had intended, though he wouldn't apologize for it. They had always fought as children, something that had never changed even as they grew, but they had always been siblings and though they bickered they had always cared for each other, they had been important to each other, had grown closer through their teenage years. Then she left; he was angry, bitter, his world had changed and he didn't like it at all.

"Geez, Shin, who spat on your food...?" Kani asked in soft surprise, slowing to a stop. "Shin, what's the matter...?" She questioned as she took to climbing through the inside of the hollow home.

Orange eyes narrowed at his sister, watching her as she climbed. Part of him wanted her there, wanted her to ask why he was angry, to talk, to understand. And yet there was still that part of him that was angry, childish, that part that drove him to his paws as if to climb higher into the tree, away from the sister who had left.
"What do you care?"
Though the harshness had faded from his tone, his words still carried an edge. Angry though he was, he would have felt worse were she to leave, driven off by his words. However he was still angry, something he wanted her to know, even if he was too stubborn to say why.

"What do you mean, what do I care?" Kani sighed, confused and resisting the urge to flinch back at his words. He was being even more broody than usual, what a bother her brother could be! (Not that she actually -meant- this, she loved her brother, and could never actually, sincerely write him off as such a thing.) "What's gotten into you today...?"
Little did she realize he had been like this for some time now.
"Are you angry with me or something? Or did you and one of the others have a fight?"

He turned, full gaze settling on his sister, the anger and rage brilliant in his eyes. How could she even ask that? Weren't girls supposed to be all smart and in touch with their emotions? The ones who acted all 'if you don't know I'm not going to tell you'? HA! They didn't know anything at all.
"You don't live here anymore remember, you left."
The bitterness was sharp in his voice, as if he could not longer hold back that anger than had been tearing at him, broken through the floodgate of what little restraint he possessed. He had wanted her to ask, but now he found it only made him more angry. Maybe if she hadn't left, if she had bothered to see, she would know why he was angry. Why did she have to change everything? Hadn't it already changed enough?

... And what was that supposed to mean? Kani balked at her brother for a few seconds, and not one to simply take someone's guff (oh, no, she was quite the defensive one when need be with certain others, just a wee bit high strung) when she felt it was undeserved, she did just that.
"And what's that supposed to mean? What, because I moved out I'm not part of 'your family' anymore?" She frowned, "I'm still your sister... Excuse me for being worried." She muttered, lowering her eyes to glower down towards her paws. Now he had her feeling twisted up inside, and she didn't even understand why! What had she done wrong?

"You said it, not me."
Words punctuated with a snort, he lept from the tree, landing with four paws soundly on the ground below, tail twitching at the dust stirred in his wake. Words spoken in anger are rarely meant as they sound, Shin did not believe that his sister was no longer a part of his family. Far from it, she was his sister and despite the anger he felt, he cared for her greatly. As he always had, through all their childish bickering and the cruel games of cubhood, she was a part of him.
And yet that part of him had left him behind, grown up without him, before he was ready and before he understood. It had left him feeling empty and abandoned, reeling as everything he knew had been turned upside down. And that in turn had made him angry, moody, and bitter.
"For the record, I would have never left you."
Hr had taken a step forward, but paused to look back.
"What'd you come here for anyways? I doubt you came by just to 'talk'."

Kani glared at her brother, letting out a soft breath as if tsk'ing or huffing, though inwardly she felt shocked, and was also hurting as if she had just been kicked in the stomach by the blunt business end of an elephant's foot.
"I came here because I thought I wouldn't be treated like a disowned stranger." She shot back. "I didn't leave you, but you have mom and dad and our brother and sisters, was I just supposed to leave Bushido out in the cold? Have him stay here where dad would be breathing down his neck twenty-four-seven? The tree's barely big enough for just the eight of us, let alone six more..."
She adored her newest family additions, and she'd hoped that now that they were of age she'd be able to introduce them to the others and maybe plan a few outings or get togethers, but by the way Shin acted now she really didn't know if it was wise just yet. If he was this bitter towards her, would he take it out on Bushido and the cubs as well? She liked to think not, but reading her brother wasn't really a strong point, as proof now displayed. Her ears lowered as he moved past, turning enough to look over her shoulder the way he was headed, voice softer, but no less emotional. Admitting she was wrong was hard enough, but being expected to understand why he was angry with her when there were feelings that that hadn't been spoken, that was harder. Maybe she had it wrong, and Shin was actually better at reading her than she had preferred to think she was of him.
"If you felt that way... why didn't you ever just say anything? Why didn't you just tell me how you felt? ... I didn't think you'd even miss me."
Not that they'd really gone far... They could see the family tree from where their den was, after all, it wasn't that long of a walk.

"No, you didn't leave at all, because having anyone else here is so the same."
The sarcasm cut through his voice with a growl, tail giving an irritated snap. She didn't get it at all. She was his sister, his littermate, they had shared an inseparable bond, how did she expect him to feel when she broke that? It had been a part of who he was, and it had happened to soon, he was not ready to grow up, perhaps he was more like their father that way.
He had taken another step, fully intending to walk away, maybe he wasn't ready to talk yet, or maybe he just wanted to make her follow him. But as she spoke he turned on her, brilliant eyes focused on her with a glare. Not miss her? Not miss her?! How could she even say something like that?
"If that's what you thought, they you don't know anything at all."
Truth be told, he would have been glad for his sister's happiness, would have enjoyed being an uncle to her cubs. Never would he have wished harm to her, her cubs, or her mate (though he may have shot the occasional glare at him). He was just too angry, too hurt to admit that.
"Whatever... If you're looking for Dad, he's not here."

The female realized too late the error of wording her thoughts as she had. It wasn't that she meant it literally, but, she was frustrated and felt blindsided, almost as much as, no, probably more than he, if only because he had the "advantage" of feeling this way for what was very obviously quite some time. Regardless, their childhood had been spent with pranks on one another, childish torments, teasing, and... and, by the spirits of the past, this sounded too familiar. Family members talking past one another, not able to express the way they really felt? Not much unlike Hoshiko and Meiyo.
"I didn't come looking for mom or dad specifically, I just wanted to see who was home. Damn it, Shin, I'm not a mind reader..." She muttered under her breath, somewhat flustered, but trying to swallow her defensive pride for his sake. Speaking out loud, she followed after him. "I'm sorry! It was confusing and frustrating for me too though, you know! It's not like I planned for any of it to happen, and when it did it happened so fast, I still don't understand why you couldn't just tell me you were hurting!"
She could just kick herself for that, now that she knew, because when it came right down to it, defenses and explanations aside, she -did- feel horribly guilty, but she couldn't bring herself to admit that either.
"And that doesn't mean that we couldn't at least try to make it right -now-!"

"You could have at least talk to me! You could have told me yourself and told me why! No, you talk to mom and leave her to tell me!"
He growled as he spoke, the anger he had held to himself since that day cutting into every word, eyes blazing with his fury. Perhaps that was what had hurt him the most, that she had left without telling him, that everything he knew had been told him by his parents. He had confronted her mate after that in a fit of rage and desperation, but he wasn't the one Shin was angry with and the encounter had simply left him feeling worse than he had before.
"But I'm just your brother, I guess I'm not worth it. Maybe I should feel lucky you've spoken to me at all."
He turned away, the anger and hurt flooding his words, bristling in his fur. This time he did walk away, if she wanted to follow, whatever, that was her choice, but he wasn't waiting for her.
