The sun was set low in the sky, slowly approaching the horizon, ready to slip behind the line of earth and disappear until morning. Morning – that was the time when the early birds walked the grounds, when kindred souls met in the silence of a new day. Well, that was how it had been before Kubwa went missing. She hadn’t seen him in days, he hadn’t showed up at the lake, and she was frankly beyond worrying now – she was just irritated. She had let herself get involved, emotionally entwined with a male, and now she was regretting ever thinking she needed someone else to be happy. She was just fine with her life without him.

Of course, it didn’t help that her brother was flaunting those daughters of his. Sure, Kiasi had never really wanted children, but now that Inari was so determined to have perfect, strong children, she couldn’t help thinking that she should have some of her own. She might not be the best mother material, but she was willing to bet that she could at least have sons where Inari had failed at that. Besides, having some more grand cubs might cheer her father up, especially since her mother seemed to have left without a word.

With a little sigh from both her irritation and her stuffed thoughts, Kiasi relaxed her elegant, lithe little frame onto a rather large granite slab somewhere near the borders. The cool surface of the stone in the hazy afternoon was comforting and she almost smiled at the simple pleasure. However, her thoughts rested on it only momentarily, for she was soon right back to thinking about the two issues twirling around in her head – two issues that actually overlapped in many places. What she wouldn’t give to just be rid of it all for five minutes. Thinking for long periods of time was certainly not one of her favorite things to do.

He wasn’t really looking to do anything today, nor did he really know where he was going. In fact- to be quite honest... he was lost. His black-toed paws slowly moved to a stop as he gazed around the area, looking for signs of life. He was very confused… he had just left the sea after seeing his father for the first time... and Ausi told him this way would bring him into the open lands… but everything seemed strange.

He hated being lost.

A bitter look crossed his maw as he moved forward and sighed, looking down at his paws. Maybe he should have stayed back with… his ‘family.’; maybe then this wouldn’t happen.

His soft blue eyes opened as he looked up to see the form of a lioness resting upon a rock. A soft smirk crossed his maw now, she was so delicate in size and seemed to be sunbathing, and maybe she knew where they were? And if even she didn’t… she was a sigh for sore eyes with such a lovely colored pelt.

“Hello there.”

He spoke out to her, moving a bit closer.”

At some point in time, Kiasi’s little eyelids had begun to slide close, content in the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the great granite slab beneath her petite little frame. Her thoughts had become a mass of whirls, not one of them substantial enough any longer for her to pull from the rest, just a tangled mass of musings rolling around in her troubled mind. The half-sleep helped her stay calm, but it caused her attachment to the waking world to become slightly fragile. It was because of this that she didn’t see him coming. With a small jump at his words, she peeled back those lids, azure eyes meeting a form quite a bit larger than any she’d seen before. Well, at least he was handsome.

“Hello yourself,” she said with a purr on her voice, words lilting and eloquent and not that surprisingly coupled to her pretty form. She watched him a few moments, considering him in the silence, before nodding her head slowly. “I suppose you must be lost – I’ve never seen the likes of you around here before and you’re certainly not pridelander blood,” it was an assumption, but Kiasi never said anything she wasn’t sure of – that was the best way to keep yourself from looking like a fool. Her tail flickered, wavering behind her in a rather serpentine manner as she awaited his answer.

She figured she could probably direct to him wherever he wanted to be, despite the fact that she had never left the pride itself. She heard her fair share of stories and she thought she had at least a rough map of some form planned out in her head. Of course, she’d much rather he stay and talk for a little while – there were so few handsome males about in the pride these days.

“Pardon me.”

He chuckled some and shifted his weight to the side. He had a sly grin that matched his tone of voice.

“I am lost but I’m in no rush now.”

It was almost flaunting the fact that he was happy to be around such a beauty as her, giving her rather suggestive looks before sitting himself down. His large paws held him up right as he spoke out to her again.

“You are very right, m’dear. I am not from around here. I’m of Firekin blood, though I am not apart of the pride. I am a wanderer as of right now.”

“Could I be so bold as to ask your name?”

Oh, he did want to know her, badly too now that he could see her figure better. She was very tiny, but not in a sick kind of way, she was just a lovely little thing, his mind couldn’t help but wander-

It was so good to see a female other than his sisters, that was for sure.

Kiasi laughed softly beneath her breath as she noted his wandering eyes. It was not so much cruel, her laughter, but amused. She had never encountered his type before, that was for sure – most males of the pride seemed to have an air of strict decency about them, probably instilled by prideful fathers. Even the rather grumpy ones seemed to know the proprieties of the pride’s unofficial code of honor. Sure, she had never seen his likes before, but she could not say that she was offended. It was almost a breath of fresh air. Well, that, and she liked to be admired. She knew she was beautiful, why shouldn’t males let her know they noticed?

“Well, it is good that you aren’t in a rush,” she said with a little touch of mirth in her voice, deep eyes dancing in her sudden pleasure. She loved attention, ate it like candy, and this was certainly just what she was being given at the moment. “I’ve heard of that pride,” she said slowly, tilting her head slowly, although she seemed to make no apparent judgment of his character, “I don’t know much other than the fact that they’re supposed to be quite big and strong with a fowl temper. You seem like you got a good two out of the three of those.” Any other time, she would have perhaps been grumpy with him, mean – but attention did wonders for those who reveled in the spotlight.

“Kiasi’Nyota,” she said with a little smile, the pride of her name obvious. She was named by her brother, ‘little star’, a name befitting any female deserving of attention. She turned her eyes to his own frame now, sizing him up in her mind. He was large, handsome – more than her silly brother could ever hope to be. She smirked at her own thoughts, shaking them off slowly. “And what, pray tell, should I call you?”

“You can call me whatever you please.”

He chuckled and gave her a rather sheepish look. Sure, he was a bit flirty, but she seemed to be okay with it. His blue eyes danced along her own gaze now as he stood up and moved himself closer to her.

His black-toed paws shifted from one side to the next as he gazed down to the ground and used his claws to make tiny shapes in the earth. They just lines and wiggles, but he seemed to be enjoying himself.

“Vulcan is my birth name, though. My mother named me after her father.”

He tossed out a bit of information about himself, now sitting beside her without any worry in his mind. If she didn’t want him near her she could easily tell him to back off and he gladly would, but, if she left him be closer… well, then… he would be.

“Kiasi’Nyota; such a fitting name for such a beautiful lioness such as yourself.”

He charmed.

She smirked slightly at his rather charming attitude, a delicate eyebrow rising in an arch above her deep eye. She knew his game, knew it well, but she was certainly just as amused at playing this game as she was – perhaps for the first time in her life, at least that she could recall. She blamed it on her thoughts, the ones that forced her into jealousy over her brother, the need to excel and be the best at everything. Damn Inari, but she would beat him, beat him at his own silly little plans. That, and she did think he was quite the handsome and strong fellow – he didn’t seem to be a halfwit either. She couldn’t say there were very many males like that that she had come to know – at least, none that weren’t directly related to her.

“Whatever would I call you other than your birth name, especially since that one seems so... powerful?” She lifted both eyebrows with her compliment, although it was the honest truth. Something about his name just seemed to radiate a sort of strength. Where hers was delicate, his was strong. “My brother named me,” she chimed rather happily, glad to be able to speak on one of her favorite subjects – herself, “the only girl and the youngest of all. I suppose they figured I would be rather special from the very beginning.” She laughed softly, reveling in his compliments.

She certainly didn’t mind him moving closer, not in the slightest. In fact, she rolled her body so that she lay closer to him, eyes drifting down to the little squiggles he was drawing in the dusty layers of dirt below her rock. They weren’t exactly very interesting, but it wasn’t something she saw done very often. She certainly never did – dirt was the last thing she ever wanted to play with. With a little tilt of her head, her large, doe eyes drifted back up to his face, “may I ask what you’re doing out here so close to this pride?” Oh, it was idle talk, but at least it was talk.

“Well, your brother picked the perfect name for you. Thank him for me next time you see him.”

He laughed and stopped his little doodle.

“I must say, you are by far one of the most stunning females I have had the chance-no, the honor to lay my eyes upon. Surly you have many males flocking after you on a daily basis.”

His muzzle slid opened slowly as he nipped at his own tongue, gazing up at her from her place above him. She looked like a queen so high up, so powerful yet tiny. It made him smirk. He needed to get his mind out of the gutter, he was being so rude, if only she could read hi thoughts, oh, and she’d think him a filthy pervert!

He rolled his shoulders back some, flexing out his back side and muscles. His ruffled mane curled all along his chest as he smirked and looked away from her. He would show her interest and then stop, acting like something else caught his eye… this would make he want him more, this would make her want him to pay more attention to her, something he would gladly do if she wanted him to.

“Oh, believe me I will, though I do think he’s probably grown a little tired of the praise. He does happen to be a little more humble than his favorite and only little sister,” she said with a soft edge to her voice, low and almost breathy, just loud enough that he could hear, being as close to her as he was. She wasn’t quite aware when she had decided exactly, or that she really had made a conscious decision at all. She was simply aware of her own intentions suddenly, and she’d be damned if someone changed her mind just because they saw some form of impropriety in it.

“You have quite the honeyed tongue, Vulcan,” she said with a touch of laughter, her eyes sparkling both from the low-slanting light of the setting sun and her own mild amusement. “Although, I must say that even though a fair share of males may happen to look my way, they never actually get very far with their intentions,” she smirked with this, amused at her own memories, at her own devilish habit of leading on males, “but I’m afraid I have quite the sharp little tongue. Males don’t much approve of being made a fool of, especially not when they think themselves so strong and brave.” She eyed him silently, from the corner of her eye, “I must say that none of them have ever come quite to the standards that you set, however.”

She smirked at his display, watching him turn his attention elsewhere. She knew this game, this tantalizing little way of dancing around the point and inadvertently getting what one wanted. Sure, she had always done this for reasons other than his current intentions, but the basis for it was very much the same. She shifted away from him then, her body stretched out across the rock as she watched him with a fake touch of innocence in her eyes. Said eyes then drifted slowly to the horizon, watching the sun sink slowly to its routine end, “I do hate to spend a night alone.” Blunt, but if that’s what it took, then so be it. She figured any male with half a wit could discern her meaning there.

Oh, well, damn. She wasn’t at all as sweet as she seemed. There was a little devil cat behind her soft looks and boy was he happy he ran into her tonight. His icy cold eyes narrowed as he glanced up at her and spoke out softly with a purr.

“A shame it would be, if you had to, but I am sure I could keep you company- if you wanted it… that is.”

His claws withdrew as he slowly moved himself to stand, his eyes never leaving her figure now. He had one thing on his mind, one objective—and it was all about her. Oh, he felt himself puur with excitement.

“Or better yet, would you grace me with your company for the night, milady?”

Kiasi smirked softly as she saw the recognition in those deep, icy eyes of his own – eyes she could drown in if she let herself. It wasn’t for love, or even romance, but she knew there was enjoyment to be had in his company. Better him than someone from the pride, she knew, and all the better that he would be gone (assumedly) by morning. Her own eyes drifted up to his, dark and shadowed in the low rays of dusk. No, this night would not be spent alone, of that she was sure.

With a little growl in her throat, she pushed herself slowly up to her paws, stretching out as she stood there atop her makeshift throne. Her first excuse for such a display was that her muscles were cramped from her long rest, but she wouldn’t fool herself into thinking she didn’t also do it a bit for the thought of his eyes one her. Then, with a careful and easy grace, she stepped slowly down from her rock, pausing before him with quite the bit of amusement in her eyes. Down off of her pedestal, he dwarfed her, more than any pridelander or rogue male she had ever encountered. Well, at least she was getting a better piece of meat than most of the other females had.

“It would be my pleasure,” she said with a small sparkle of mischief in her eyes, turning slowly with her back to him as her eyes swept to a small copse of trees, surrounded by other large rocks and tall shrubbery, set off in the near distance. She turned her head over her shoulder for only a moment, before she began a graceful, proud stride in the direction of the area. “You’re a gentleman, you know,” she called back softly, “for keeping a lady company tonight.” There was a touch of mirth as she stopped, looking back at him once again, as if to silently beckon him on.
