Well, last night had been quite eventful and the old male gave a long yawn as he wandered back into the Graveyard carrying his prize for the day.
On this morning's menu was plump baby gazelle and thank the old God's was it easy to catch.
Kimwondo's bone crunching jaws gripped it tightly around the neck as he dragged it's fat, meaty young body behind him while leaving a small trail of blood aswell and then dropped the carcass infront of his skull.

His skull was his den, like any other Hyena in the pack.

His safe haven from the females, pups and ignorant happy little males of the pack.
Basicly where he could be grumpy in peace.

And as he lay between the large tucks and stuck his snout deeply into the torn flesh of the tasty carcass, he couldn't have, in that moment been happier to just eat his meat with no strings attached.
However, that was not how things go when you have to hunt for several other mouths aswell.
And sooner or later, he would be caught out.

With a slow lope, the accomplished alpha of the pride was making her way back to her den. She'd just been in a fight with a lioness, and the taste of the lion blood on her palate was worth all of the wounds she had to endure. The large female was marked with gashes across her face and legs. Blood had once flown freely, but the open wounds had now crusted up slightly. She was encrusted in a mixture of the lion's blood and her own.

It was because of this that she didn't smell Kimwondo or his meal. On any other day, she would've, and come to investigate, but today, chancing about the male and his dinner was sheer luck. Mafa wound to a stop as the drab scenery changed from grays and blacks to a smudge of purple. Her head perked up, not exactly sure what to make of the situation. Was it another lion? Would she have to fight again? However, as she drew closer, she found it was only a male hyena. She remembered him vaguely, having taken in him a while ago. Kimwondo was his name, but anything else about the brute, she couldn't recall. The fresh kill before him was tempting her taste buds, but Mafa was too proud a creature to take someone else's catch. She hunt for herself once her wounds healed a little more. Or maybe she's enlist one of her higher ups to catch a meal for her and the pups, where ever they were. Clearing her throat, Mafa stood up tall, though it pulled at her wounds, but she didn't let her expression show it,

"Quite a catch there, Kimwondo."

Oh well, peace was short lived and the male snarled slightly at the approach of the female before he stood up, licking the blood from his maw as he looked up at Mafa briefly and arched a brow at the scars that marred her gray and black pelt.
He didn't answer for a moment, just watching her for a few seconds as he stood over his catch and then smirked at her.

"Looked like you got quite a catch there too..." He started, a snide tone to his voice. "Mind you by the look of things, whatever you caught probably got away."

Kimwondo was not afraid to backmouth the alpha, however the only respect he had for females was the fact their brute strength came in pretty handy...at times.
And he squared his jaw as he leaned down and took a strip of flesh from the carcass before staring back up at him.

"May I help you with anything?" He asked rudely.

Mafa tilted her chin up in a show of dominance as Kim spoke with his sneering tone. What a defensive brat. However, she didn't mind the attitude all too much, as long as he remained subordinate to her. Mafa was all for all the members of her pack having their own individual personalities. As long as they viewed her as the only law of the land, she had no opposition to them being assholes, meek, shy, or outspoken. To each his own.

"Wasn't looking for dinner. More of a scare."

Mafa's voice held an authoritative tone, but there was not contempt to her words. She'd done all that she needed to with that lion. It sure as hell wasn't coming back. But if it ever did, she sure as hell would end its life. The alpha's ears perked as the male spoke again, her eyes narrowing slightly.

"Maybe it'd be helpful to adjust your mindset. You're mine now, you respect me. Lash back, be cocky, do what you want, just know that your little attitude problem won't affect me. Might've worked where you came from, but this is a new place, with a new force to be reckoned with."

The males ear flickered back slightly as he watched her, leaning down and chomping on more meat while his snout wrinkled back in a rather vicious snarl as he ate.
Kimwondo looked younger than he did...but he acted his age, he was a grumpy old buggar if there ever was one.
Moons of living on his own, working up muscle, hunting skills...it had all paid off a lot.

"I was born here before you were even concieved, female, so don't talk to me about being in a new place." He said, licking the blood from his lips.
"And I'm sure I'll be able to handle anything you throw my way."

He said, fangs bared slightly as he continued to eat greedily infront of the Alpha, not offering her any as he ripped at the flesh with a slightly more violent fever to him.

"Besides, you wanna scare? Just go look for one of those little pups of yours, I'm sure any one of them is bound to give you a heart attack if they so much as stub one of their poor little paws."

Mafa wasn't about to be intimidated by this old fool. Age didn't matter, not to her. This old fool though he had things figured out, but boy was he wrong. She was the alpha, she demanded respect. She deserved it for taking all these other hyenas onto her lands.

"These are no longer the lands of your forefathers, let me remind you. They're mine. And that's definitely something new."

Mafa snarled lightly, raising a lip to show her rather large yellowed fangs. If he wanted a fight, she'd take it on. Hell, she'd take him down without a hassle. Mafa was built enough to beat down a full grown lion. A hyena, especially an old male would give her no trouble in the least, even in her state. His threats weren't about to hit home. Raising her hackles, the large female chuckled arrogantly,

"I somehow doubt that, old timer. Becareful now, you'll break a hip."

Heck, Mafa was pretty damn old. If Kimwondo was as much older as he claimed, he might as well been on his death bed. It was too bad Mafa had no respect for her elders. As far as she saw it, she was the only supreme law of the land.

As Kimwondo spoke again, the female couldn't help but to let out an extremely loud cackle. Wow, he really was oblivious to what went on around here. If there was anything Mafa held spite toward around here, it was her pups. She carried them around for months, and then she had to take care of them until they were grown and well on their way. They were nothing more but leeches and burdens.

"They're weaned, they're gone, and all they are now are more pack members. I'm not sure what you take me for, old man, but I'd sugggest you get your facts down before you run that mouth."

The male didn't even flinch at the Alpha's threats before looking around at the graveyard around him, only to snort slightly at Mafa's words.

"I doubt these lands will ever be like the lands of old, where the teachings of Roh'Kash and Roh'Khim meant something." His tone was that of disgust, muzzle wrinkled back in a sneer as he ate before it turned into a rather evil smirk and he stared back at the large female.
"Still...atleast the bitches of my family are good and dead." He said before banging one of his large paws upon the ground.
"YOU HEAR THAT YOU MISTREATING WHORES! HOPE YOU'RE BURNIN' UP REEEEEAL GOOD DOWN THERE!!"

The male was raving slightly to himself, before he looked back at the Alpha, only to snicker slightly at her old timer comment.

"You mistake my age for feebleness." He said rather bluntly. "Still, you're not the first female Alpha to make mistakes."
The male had a rather snide tone to his voice as he said the word female, as if it had a bad taste to it and he turned back to his kill to eat away at his feast.
However still pondering the Alpha's words and the cruel cackle that made him growl slightly before he lifted his hand and stared at her with a face that said 'Is that so?'.

"Sure, you say that." He started, chomping down another slab of meat before he continued. "But I doubt it's true, you are a female and females, no matter how proud or strong they may be, have the maternal instincts to care for their little demons, so you can personally believe my facts are not as straight as you think...I bet you feel your little sons are annoying pack members that'll ocassionaly want sympathy from their own big bad mother..." Kimwondo then narrowed his eyes, a rather evil grin coming to his face.
"But what about your little heir? Your pride and joy? Can you keep a straight face at the thought of the packs future being snatched away from here or worse...life itself?"

Mafa stared blankly as Kim ranted on and on. The look she was giving him was a rather ridiculous one, as whatever the hell he was going on about was definitely ridiculous. Roh'Kash, Roh'Khim? What in the name? Such beings no longer existed, and now there were only her teachers, and those she so chose to pass on from the pack before her... Which wasn't anything significant.

"Whoever your... Roh's are, they're dead and gone to waste, I could care less as of what they had to say. And aren't you glad the bitches of your family are dead? Obviously, it's the reason you ended up here."

Mafa's sneering tone dripped with disdain. She didn't care if he hated females; she didn't care if he hated males. As long as she was respected, he could go on thinking what ever kind of junk he wished. At Kim's next comment, Mafa arrogantly scoffed,

"I would hope you're not feeble, or you'd be useless to me completely."

Mafa pondered on her children momentarily.... Nope, no maternal instincts tugging at her strings. Except for Tawala, but she would rather die than admit she loved her own daughter. Besides, the way she treated her children was the way she found according, like she was going to let this old fool, who had obviously never sired a litter bother her with his petty thoughts.

"Oh old man, it seems here, you are mistaken. My own blood does flow within them and they are considerably tougher than you might think. Born here, raised here, any hyena of these lands is significantly more resiliant than one from the plains. You fool, do not think I do not see to it that my daughter is safe, she cannot be harmed, those within this pack see to it. Unless, of course, you're suggesting that you have intention to harm her, wherein you will be treated as a traitor. And Kimwondo, I do abhor traitors."

Kimwondo smirked at that, she abhored traitors did she?
Oh it was fun to see what made this alpha tick, his hard claws scritching away at the dirt as he continued to snack away at his hard earned kill.
All the while watching this female closely.

"The Roh's as you call them, were the Gods that sired our entire species and washed our destinies with the blood of lions and any other species that dared oppose them."
He then smirked.
"Makes sense why we are feared and hated, no?"

He didn't bother to answer her words of his being useless if he was feeble, pah, just like a female, in the old days older members were fed and looked after if they couldn't hunt.
Just another reason he despised what had become of this damn pack.
Still, he couldn't have felt too angry when he snickered and finally answered her last choice of words.

"Don't worry your pretty little head, Mafa, I have no point to kill the little whelp."
PostPosted: Wed Mar 12, 2008 1:43 pm

"Hah! Gods, you are indeed a fool for believing such pup's tales."

Mafa smirked, tossing her head arrogantly. She was a maker of her own fate, to her, gods didn't exist. There was no higher being than her. She had seen a lion god before, long ago, but even it didn't compare to her. Any being of the lion kind was of a lower standing. In fact, every hyena was below her. In Mafa's mind, there was no denying that.

"We are feared because of what we make of ourselves. And that, exactly, is the image I strive to uphold for our kind."

Mafa spoke with a sneer, she wasn't about to have her kind looked down upon by any other creature on this earth. Hyenas were supreme beings, even the senile ones such as Kimwondo. It was why she tolerated him, because even he had his worth here. Mafa wasn't as all terrible as she made herself out to be. She wasn't below offering help to those that needed it. However, only on the condition that they grovel for it first.

"I'm certain you wouldn't Kimwondo. You wouldn't want a deed like that attached to your name."

The older male arched a brow at that, a simple movement but it was certainly enough to word his thoughts before he took a large hunk of meat from the carcass and flung it her way.
Was he actually offering her some of his kill?

"Never heard them called 'pups tales' before...then again, everyone needs something to believe in...even you Mafa." He said, bright coloured eyes almost glowing against the darkness of the shadows as he stared her down for a few moments.
He lay down, stretching and popping a few joints with some pleased grunts as he relaxed himself next to the kill.

Her next choice of words...suprised him, ears perking forward as he lay one paw over the other and smirked slightly.
Certainly never saw an Alpha with that sort of gumption.
But he chose not to answer and simply chuckled at her last words.

"Oh please." He scoffed. "It wouldn't be the worse deed I've done...but I'm certain your pups will need some looking after from time to time."
He snickered slightly.
"I mean, they can't be watched ALL the time by mear scouts."

The thought of the pups in trouble and a sad Mafa almost amused him...almost.

"I believe in myself, Kimwondo, and that is all I need."

The alpha tossed her head arrogantly, smirking lightly at the old timer. It was indeed what she lived by, her own rules; her own thoughts; her own reign. She expected the same from everyone else. There were no gods. She was god. Kimwondo's next action stirred a hint of surprise in Mafa's core. The wet slap of meat at her paws drew her eyes to it. From that slab, her gaze trailed slowly back to Kimwondo's kill. Mafa narrowed her eyes in thought. It was an act of acceptance, she figured, and though she wasn't particularly hungry, she'd eat. It would be rude not to. Mafa anchored the bloody meat to the ground with a paw and then craned her neck down, snapping up a hunk of the kill before her. She gulped it down quickly, chuckling egotistically at the geriatric male's words,

"What, are you offering to keep an eye on them?"

Mafa rolled her eyes at the thought. Little old Kimwondo tottering around after her pups, whom were just brimming over with energy. He'd keel over after just a day. It was an amusing thought. Snatching up another hunk of her meat, Mafa chewed it over carefully, pondering on the subject of her pups. Surely, she wasn't their biggest fan, but she was their mother, afterall. She felt obligation to them, to keep them safe anyway she knew it. Mafa might not have been the best mother, but had anyone tried to harm her offspring, they would be better off wishing they were dead.

Kimwondo was not an accepting male, especially not when it came to the strict matriarchy of the Hyena social structure.
However it seemed that he was growing much more patient for Mafa...this...Alpha who believed only in herself, one who called him an old timer and so forther, but that didn't stop him from snorting at her words of believe while he raised a paw to twiddle with a now clean rib.
Watching it jostle as it still was attached to the spine.

At her words of pup sitting he almost choked on his current slab of meat, hacking as he pushed himself to his paws and felt the meat slide painfully down his throat.
Taking a few long deep breaths so he could remind his lungs that, yes, they needed to work.

"Are you MAD, woman!?" He spat, ears propped atop his head as his muzzle wrinkled back in a questioning, unbelievable sneer while his colourful eyes burnt into her aqua ones.

"That's my NIGHTMARE!!!"
