Izarra’s paws were so sore from all of her walking today! It had been such a long day too, so when she got the time to rest she did, and boy did she rest hard.

She slept all through out the afternoon and when she awoke it was pinch black out! Her eyes narrowed as she slowly arose from her slumber and yawned tiredly. Now she would be up all night... perfect.

She rolled her eyes and stood up tall, stretching out some before gazing up at the sky. It was such a lovely night, this night and the stars all danced around the sky brightly, everything seemed so perfect.

She was pleased.

Izarra slowly started to walk again, making her way through the darkness until she hit a near by water-hole where she stopped for a drink. She was a tiny thing, frame wise, with a coat unlike any other, it seemed to glitter like the sky above.

Dipping her head she moved to drink from the water-hole, her dark eyes closed as she did this.

She was unaware of anything around her.

Sharifu'bedui looked up at the starry sky and could only sigh, long and lonely and tired. Once he'd been young, full of fire and conviction and purpose, but now he was only tired. Now he was old, and dreams and purpose and hope had long since flown away. He had seen his mate die, seen the pride of his forefathers torn in two after his brother's death, divided by suspicion and prejudice. He had left his daughters to that pride, and lost his son to sickness. Through all of that, hope had held...until the day he'd returned, and found only a lonely mountain. No pride, no daughters, nothing.

Since then he had felt as a ghost, wandering and forgotten. Just a relic of the past, a remnant of a dead pride, a dead dream. Still, Sharifu'bedui could not simply lie down and die. Even tired and despairing, he still had his nobility. That he would always have. At least as long as he lived, so too would his memory, and not all would be forgotten. Not completely. And so he kept on moving, existing. At least it was something.

His steps were steady as he approached the waterhole he'd scented...until he caught sight of another there. He stopped then, debating turning around and coming back later. The old lion couldn't help but watch, however; she looked like a piece of the night sky, given shape and life and will. It reminded him of his past, as one of the night hunters of the Ardhi'bedui. But then, everything reminded him of the past these days.

With narrowed eyes she lifted her head and turned slowly, gazing at him with a soft smile. She didn’t mind him standing where he was, in fact, she was happy to have company. With a soft smile she spoke out to the newcomer and said,

“You have lovely eyes.”

As strange as it was she couldn’t help but tell him that. She was a big sweet-heart after all and couldn’t hold back her thoughts or flattery.

“What’s your name?”

She asked sweetly, sitting down beside the water, her paws dipping into it slightly.

Oh...oh dear! She'd noticed him? He hadn't meant to stare, not really. Shari caught her eyes for only a moment before averting his gaze guiltily, paws shifting restlessly beneath him. He should have turned around, not bothered her with his impoliteness.

But where had his manners gone? Fortunately, they were so ingrained in him that they didn't take long to find. Force of habit drew them out where apathy would have locked them away. "My apologies, Miss, it was not my intention to intrude..."

He'd noticed her appearance of course, from small frame to exceptional coat, but it was little more than idle observation on his part. He was too old to take that sort of interest in females anymore, especially when they were probably young enough to be his granddaughter, if not younger. His sense of chivalry persevered, however.

"Sharifu'bedui is my name." He asked nothing of her, intent on being completely unimposing.

A very faint smile crossed her maw as her cheeks rose with delight. Such a wonderful name! A soft purr passed her chest as she moved herself a bit closer to him and smiled brightly, carefree and content.

“Sharifu'bedui, you have such a wonderful name, you know?”

She wasn’t one for personal space, as could be seen… she was almost at his face by the time she spoke his name. She seemed well though, not at all ditsy or lame.

No, she was just happy and sweet.

“I’m Izarra.”

Figuring it was right to give her name now too she nodded slightly and looked around.

“This isn’t my home but it’s a lovely place to come to after sundown. You can see all the stars from here.”

"Thank you," he responded, politeness nearly automatic. Otherwise, the compliment seem to make him...uneasy? There was a further hesitance to him now; his name had been his defiance, his oath, and it all meant nothing now. His name was as hollow as he felt.

With no acceptable way to extricate himself from this situation and the friendly lioness' company, however, he was forced to put some semblance of effort into being some kind of company himself. "The stars?" He often forgot about them, given how often he looked only at his paws or the way ahead. And it was just as well, because the stars made him sad. "Oh yes," he fumbled after a moment, "The stars. They're lovely when they're bright."

Sharifu'bedui did not, however, look up to see them.

As he spoke her eyes narrowed. Something seemed wrong, out of place with him.. .this made her heart ache. Her tail curled along her side as she spoke out softly, gazing at him.

“Are you aright? You seem so unhappy… is.. There anything I can do? Did… did I do anything to make you unhappy?”

She bit her lower lip as she moved back to give him some space. She often forgot her limits with others, her boundaries… maybe she had said something that had hurt him. Oh.. She hoped not!

“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to..”

She trailed and looked away-Confused.

Oh...oh no! Suddenly, his melancholy air was replaced by a stuttering, guilty horror. He'd made her upset! And worse, she thought it was her fault - now he'd really done it! Eyes wide with surprise and ears cast back in shame, all he could do for a moment was shake his head. Oh, he should never have lingered! He should have just turned around as soon as he'd seen someone else, and then he never would have troubled her.

"No," he cried, distraught. "No, no!" Rather than rush forward to assure her as other might have done, he actually took a few steps back, looking quite meek. "No, you...you haven't done anything."

"I-I'm very poor company. That's all it is. You shouldn't worry about an old man like me."

Her smile was weak, but it was still alive, and with soft eyes she moved herself closer to him as he backed away, speaking out to him as kindly and understanding as she could.

“No-no, don’t be that way.”

She sighed and nodded.

“You are fine, please. Don’t beat yourself up.”

At his words about his age she giggled and blushed, her body relaxing once more.

“You don’t look old to me.”

Though tense, he didn't draw away when she moved closer - that might have upset her, and he'd already done quite enough of that, albeit inadvertantly. The lioness was kind, more kind than he deserved. He strayed away from what had disturbed her, instead latching to what seemed to amuse her.

"You just haven't seen me in better light," he tried, with a ghost of a joking smile. He really was getting up there - he was graying, even!
