Huojin was still feeling odd in his bigger body, but he did enjoy one thing about his miraculous growth spurt. Now he could go off on his own, and he didn't have to trail behind his mother and brother anymore! They weren't as entertaining as he was, and he felt like a joker every time he was around them. With gaining adulthood, the stallion also seemed to have a respect about him, and he was soaking up that fact as much as he could! He didn't feel as if he had gotten any wiser, but he would definitely play that off if needed be.

The stallion slowly walked under the shade of the trees, since they were helping in blocking some of the horrid wind that flew past him. Everyone around him kept chattering that spring was coming, but Huojin found that doubtful at the current weather situation. Feeling a hefty yawn mold on his face, the stallion lowered his head quickly before brining the hair out of his eyes once again. He couldn't tell why he was so tired, and he needed to boost himself up!

Giving himself another on-the-spot decision, Huojin then moved himself into a graceful trot while quickly feeling the energy rush into his legs. He was so much faster now, and that was another thing that the young stallion enjoyed! He could feel his muscles inching at each step, and he assumed that he looked just wonderful at the same time! Since his body instantly felt better and warmer, Huojin kept on trotting, since he figured it was better to be energized and hot, rather then shaky and cold!

Farsiris had been a Winter born baby, a child that had endured the most severe weather that the seasons had to offer. As a result, she had done her fair share of shaking but as adulthood had approached her she had discovered that odd things happened to those soquili that stayed up in the hills all year round. For a start, she had become a damn sight more fluffy, her hair thickening out to provide a buffer against the cold.

Thus, it was of no surprise that she paid little heed to the 'chill' winds that existed in the lowlands as she drifted along the streams edge. She hadn't really had much time to explore down here yet, she'd spent most of her time hunting through chasms on the slopes but now... Well, she had felt that odd little niggle and had obeyed it!

Flicking her ebony tail against her flank, she thrust herself forward and quickened her pace. She wasn't cold, didn't see the point in exercise to preserve a figure but she did like how her reflection looked when she moved in a specific way. Kicking up her hooves, she arched her neck and began to 'prance' more than trot.

A little world of her own and she was the centre of it for the time being.

However, as she broke the immediate shelter of the forests and caught sight of what appeared to be a blur of gold she came to a rather abrupt halt. Blinking in surprise she could do nothing more than turn her head in the direction to see if it had been nothing more than an illusion.

It turned out it hadn't - that was a soquili!

With his hair waving behind him, the stallion continued running forward, before quickly halting himself! Apparently, there was a mare in front of him, and APPARENTLY, she had also halted quickly herself! Huojin only stared back for a moment, before casually throwing his head back in a large amount of laughter. "Well, at least we didn't run into each other!" The stallion would have been pissed if that were true! He truly hated bruises and scars.

The mare was very interesting to him, and it also appeared that she was a unicorn like him! This was the first mare that he had met as a grown up, and Huojin had to contemplate for a moment on how to act accordingly..

He tried to think back to his mother, but that was no good. All she did was call him stupid and idiotic, so her actions weren't justifiable, were they? With a quiet sigh, Huojin finally broke the silence, since he personally hated it himself. He used to hate when his mother and brother would blatantly ignore him...

"Well anyway, I am not sure if I should apologize for ruining your run, or thank you for stopping mine. I am completely warmed up at the moment, so I probably would have started panting if I continued running like this." His grin was cheesy, but he loved it! Or rather, should he tell the mare that he was graced with her presence, since SHE had also stopped his run, hadn't she? "What is your name, Miss?" he then said, rather lazily.

He looked...different. It wasn't different in a bad way, it was just that the colour upon his fur and the odd jewels within his hair le to some confusion. True, she had a lily wrapped round her own throat, a gift from a wandering two-legger but to have so many things bound to his form was strange. How long had it taken to put all those things on, especially in his hair?

She simply stared at him further, unaccustomed to the mannerisms of those in the lowlands and merely granted him the time to chatter more while she assessed him. Given the facial expressions, ever changing upon his features he seemed just as confused as she was to encounter another soquili in such a peculiar manner.

That being said, stranger things had happened...

Nevertheless, it was not with awe that she stared at his form. True to other mares he would have been a delight to the eye but Farsiris had never had the opportunity to develop such attractions. The stallion she did know was aloof, distant and often lost in his own thoughts...He had his reasons of course but a lack of flirtation as she had come to age had resulted in her being somewhat 'green' in that area. Oddly, she'd never had an inclination to act in a giggly manner towards a stallion either.

Thus it should have been no surprise that she was reasonably unphased by his form regardless of how deligthful it was. She admitted his jewels were pretty but was more interested in how they got there. She was more interested in why his face changed so much and more inclined to wonder why he spoke in such a strange way than marvel at his muscles. She was almost indifferent to it!

"I wasn't running," she replied at last in a soft, yet most noncommital tone. "I as just practicing," she added in need of further explanation though she wasn't completely certain as to why he had told her he would have ended up panting. Was he trying to be funny, should she laugh? She didn't know and instead she smiled given it was the simplest way out of a stick situation.

That being said when she was asked her name she seemed to be even more confused than before. She did have a name, she knew she had a name she just kept forgetting it because she was rarely called by it!

"Name, Name..." she mulled this over for a little while longer until the metaphorical light bulb pinged to life in her head, "I'm Farsiris, and you are?"

Since the mare was rather quiet, Huojin had a terrible thought strike his mind, and he followed up with a musty frown overall. Was she going to be silent like his brother was? If that was the case.. then Huojin knew that this was not going to be a fun conversation. His brother only added insight onto things, and he never was as cooky as he was, and he never responded to how he truly felt. He only said the intelligent answer, and Huojin did the opposite! That being said, it was probably strange to assume something against the mare, but Huojin was definitely judgmental of others.

"Huojin." he then said, with a slight grunt after it. The mare had an interesting name, though then again, so did he! Once the stallion's mind was conflicted, he was always distracted from what was actually in front of him. Even if the mare was quite different from his brother, his mind was still busy with unintentional thoughts. Once content in his musings, he rolled his eyes upward before shifting his hair out of his eyes.

"Well, practicing, running, forgive me if they are so different to you." Hating the fact that he was somewhat corrected, the stallion continued to watch the unicorn before speaking once again. There was one interesting thing in the midst of the silence, and that was the mare's flower in her hair. "Amazing that that flower lasted in this terrible season.." he then said, while staring at its color some more. "Heh, that's how I felt in the worst of storms. Is it an exotic flower?" He couldn't even tell, but he did enjoy its color. It was bright and vibrant like him, and that made him happy.

It wasn't that Farsiris was quiet, she was simply shy and less inclined to speak until she was certain she wasn't going to get mauled for doing so. However, once she relaxed she was often full of questions, most of which were rarely answered given their often 'risqué' quality - it wasn't that she understood exactly what her own questions meant...she just wasn't entirely aware of the impact they had on others.

Nevertheless, when she heard his name she gave a small nod and offered a smile. It was polite after all, to present a warm front when someone had introduced themselves and given that he wasn't mean he was more than welcome to it. Well, he wasn't mean but she did find him rather strange - his expression changed more swiftly than the weather on the slopes!

"My mother gave it to me," she mused after a few moments, she couldn't see all of the pretty little trinkets she had on. In truth, she was only aware of their smell for the most part but she could recall that. As she had come of age she had received gifts from her mother and her friends - both had been flowers. Oddly though, she had never really thought about how they preserved themselves...

"I think it is exotic but...I don't know how it survived, it is a very special flower," she confessed and then shook her head, "Magical some might say."

He was quiet while the female spoke, and he finally allowed the usual grin to slide on his face at the word 'magical'. "I am sure anyone in their right mind would have questioned this magical flower of yours. But I can say that I have seen many magical things in this land, so its not that strange to have something too special." he then added, as if knowing everything. "But it is lovely, your mother has good taste." Anything vibrant and strong was the way to go, and Huojin was at least impressed by that.

Before proceeding in speaking, he looked the mare over again, before drifting his eyes up at her horn. "I have heard that Unicorns are magical, since our horns do something great. Mine doesn't seem to do anything besides getting stuck in trees or bumping into things. Do you know of what power they speak of?" His mother had vaguely told he and his brother, and because she was always so shifty in emotions, he was not surprised to ever see his questions go unanswered.

"I figured, since you have one too, maybe you know what they are all about.." Finally, the stallion was admitting that he didn't know something, but still, he was far from trying to impress the mare in front of him. She had mad it clear that those tactics weren't necessary, so the stallion took the opportunity to be truthful in his questions and answers. There was no reason to put a show on, since that's what Huojin usually did, or rather, what he preferred.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 18, 2008 5:57 am

Ah, Farsiris was curious as to exactly what this stallion had seen. In terms of 'magic' she had scarcely seen much of it but apparently it happened often down here. It made her all the more determined to explore just a little farther to see what she could discover. Perhaps she would even learn of where her flower originated from and she could find a reason for its inherent ability to survive in such climates and without water no less!

"Define the 'right mind' you speak of," she replied in a more wistful manner than challenging. She had heard so many references to normality and so many varying definitions of sanity that she doubted anyone really knew which was which. Perhaps he knew this too and simply stated the phrase in a manner to indicate as such. Much to her displeasure she couldn't read minds or else she would have known for sure!

Nevertheless, she rested her weight casually to one side of her form and continued to listen to the stallion as he spoke. It was only when he made reference to her horn that she went cross eyed briefly in an attempt to look at it before flicking her gaze back to him. When she had been a babe she hadn't been sure of her skills, her mother had never really told her either but it had been the instructions and guidance of another that had taught her...

"It heals other creatures," she offered after a few moments, unaccustomed to answering questions. "When it touches an injured soul it can heal their wounds..."

Huojin raised his eyebrow swiftly, feeling very cornered by the mare's question. Rather then faking how unintelligent he was, he decided to be honest, since this mare was far different then he could have imagined. What kind of question was that? It truly halted him! "I don't do the whole physiological thing." he then admitted, with a slight grunt. "I was just saying, I suppose." Apparently his words were wrong? That was bothersome, and he was feeling slightly irked that she wanted to call him out for his speech.

He was thankful, at least, that she answered his concern, and knew what he was talking about. "Thank you for clearing that up." he said, calmly. "And have you used such a power before?" He couldn't tell if the mare was wise, or if she was just bluffing. When he thought about it, why would she bluff, she hadn't been earlier, so there was no reason to really, was there?

"Is my company not enjoyable to you?" he then asked, rather flatly. "I only approached because I was trying to be kind for once," well, that wasn't true, but lying was common for the stallion, "Is there something else I should be talking about, like something you actually enjoy? It seems my words are rather boring to you." Pfft, and if that was so, he wouldn't waste them on her anymore! Maybe he was over analyzing things, but Huojin did not know any other way to interpret silence.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 21, 2008 4:18 am

Oh dear, her silence had always caused her problems with others. Creatures often misinterpretted it for aggorance but never boredom. This of course was inaccurate and while her expression rarely changed she was hardly bored, she had after all remained in his company instead of walking away! Or at least that's how she saw it... Truly, social gatherings were significantly more complex than most cared to admit.

Completely unprepared for his rather blunt remark, she could do nothing other than to gawk for a few moments. She had never been one who possessed the ability to gather her composure so quickly; instead she floundered until someone picked her up, dusted her off and then sent her on her way again with a light pat to the back. Unfortunately she had no one to do that for her at this precise moment in time and so she stared.

She didn't mean to be so rude...

Nevertheless, something in her mind seemed to click as she was reminded of the question he had presented to her before. With that jolt she snapped out of her 'reverie' and simply shook her head, "No, I have never used such a skill..." she replied at last as she attempted to smile. Given the current situation she was finding it rather difficult to express herself to begin with!

Maybe she should recover?

"But you weren't boring me!" Shaking her head again, she seemed to look startled at the very idea of 'boring' anyone. It was only when she recounted that he was 'trying to be nice' that she slumped just a little. It seemed neither of the pair were particularly good at social encounters despite their good intentions!

"Oh but if it troubled you to approach then you did not have to," she smiled faintly at this, tossing her head to brush the forelock away from her eyes. "They say you should only approach creatures if you want to, not because you feel obliged to." She was of course repeating words she had heard from her mother at some point or another but she would be the first to admit that she didn't like to be a burden on anyone.

"Maybe I should apologise for being so bad at conversation, things do not talk very much where I come from," she explained after a few moments, recalling her oldest friend who rarely spoke at all.

Well... it seemed the mare was admitting to her flaws now, and Huojin only watched her gently as she continued on with her words. The way she 'was' sounded vaguely familiar to him, and it took him a moment before smirking slightly. "Ah, its ok, truly. My mother is the same way, she didn't recognize or talk to us because she didn't want to. Forgive me if I assumed such a similarity for yourself, since it is all I could really guess from experience." Well, they both were admitting their flaws and mistakes, and that was ok, wasn't it? The stallion had never seen someone admit to a mistake, and that was something he was learning from this mare's words. His mother nor brother did not make mistakes, so Huojin was careful to follow their ways.

"I am glad at least that I wasn't boring you." His voice felt faintly reassured, and Huo decided that he would calmly try and keep the peace between them. Its not like he had anything better to do, so maybe the mare could prove to be interesting? She was already stepping outside of boundaries that the stallion had never broken before. "Now why are you bad at conversing?" He then asked, while swishing his tail lazily. If anything, he didn't initially think that. He just thought she didn't want to be there of course!

"Well, when I think about it, I approached you because I saw you were also a unicorn, and that interested me. No one has told me much about why I was born, or what I was born for, so I had to stop you for any knowledge you had." With a slight shrug, Huojin was glad he was honest in his story, since his existence was, well, questionable! He probably confused the female, but he was used to that sort of reaction by now.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 03, 2008 2:14 am

So it was alright for her to act this way? A tiny part of her gave a flutter at this and she afforded a smile, the churning of nerves in her stomach beginning to dissipate at these kind words. Apparently both were completely oblivious to social ettiquette but in their own ways they were beginning to work with one another's peculiar natures to hold what one might have called a decent conversation.

Ah, she had much to learn.

"I just told you..." she murmured faintly before shaking her head. Perhaps she hadn't been heard given the soft nature of her voice and thus she had little choice other than to repeat it. With a flick of her forelock away from her eyes she tilted her head to the side and spoke once more. "Where I come from soquili do not often talk, they are lost in their own thoughts."

This was not strictly true given the mother of her best friend never, ever kept her mouth closed! That being said, Farsiris had never been entirely certain of how to handle that either.

"But your words confuse me," she confessed at last, her form slumping slightly in defeat. She was not as knowledgable as he seemed to think and she couldn't hold the facade up for very long at all, "Why would you want to know why you were born and what you were born for - is being here not enough?"

At the mare's first words, Huojin could only crinkle his nose. There seemed to be a lot of misunderstanding through both of their word usages, but it was to be expected. The two of them didn't know each other, and it was always strange to spurt up the beginning aspects of a conversation. Or at least, that's what Huo was reminding himself. It wasn't his fault, no way no how!

"I am sorry if my words confuse you, but that's why we are all born different anyways." he smirked slightly, knowing that that was a simple fact in itself. "But being here is not enough for me. This may be a bit of a rant for me, but I don't mind explaining. I grew up thinking that a 'father' didn't exist for any families. It wasn't until I ran into another filly when I realized that fathers DO exist for some reason. So, if he has apparently never existed, then why am I here? I see no problem in questioning that." he then nodded softly, while glancing back at the mare carefully.

"So there is nothing that makes you curious? Even if you think you know everything about yourself, chances are you really don't." Since.. it was impossible to seriously know everything. "I know my example may be a bit deep for other's taste, but I try to learn everything I can from the individuals I meet. I already know from this conversation that I have learned some facts about unicorns, and now I am only focused on hearing your own interpretation."

It felt nice to talk.. though Huo realized that he might have been ranting a bit. "You see, I grew up in an opposite scenario, so I don't know what not-talking is like."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 04, 2008 1:38 am

Well she knew where babies came from, that much she was certain of and while her father had been a fleeting individual in life she knew who he was. Just because he hadn't been around didn't mean she had no reason to be here...or did Huojin simply mean that he didn't understand how he had come into existence when there was no man (apparent or otherwise) present in his mother's life?

Ah, so many questions!

Her smile grew somewhat as she permitted him the time to 'rant' about this little issue. By the sounds of it his family was a little out of the ordinary, perhaps not in appearance but his upbringing seemed to have been quite unlike anything she was familiar with. Her upbringing had been a quiet but loving one and her friend...well his mother was one of the more lovable types she had met. So, to have him explain his family in this way...

She shook her head and dismissed the thoughts.

"There are many things that intrigue me - in fact everything does," she replied courteously, flicking her tail against her flank as she adjusted her weight from one hoof to the other. "Not so much about me but about what I see in the world," she explained a little more and then she tilted her head to the side.

"Truth be told I've never been down from the mountains before, I came down to see what it was really like," she confessed although she had more manners than to proclaim that it was much louder! Given where she lived this type of observation would be apparent but most would misinterpret it. "It's a lot warmer than I anticipated though!"

Well, he could now account for her confusion, since she had never been away from these 'mountains' before. "And in my defense, I have never been up in the mountains, so I have my own things to learn." he smiled lightly with that, knowing he would go explore those domains when it was warmer outside. "My brother and I were always fascinated with the mountains, but I can imagine how much colder they are then down here. Maybe I shall see you up there in a few months.." he glazed his eyes up and ahead of the mare, while pondering the idea lightly. Was it really that different in the mountains? Maybe it would be a nice escape.

"Well, since there are lots of things that intrigue you, it probably was a good idea to explore a different side to the land. I must admit, I am surprised that this is your first time down from the mountains.. what moved you to make the decision anyhow?" He couldn't tell what the mare's personality was like, she was so composed and calm. In a sense, it was bothering Huojin, since her personality was so opposite of his.

"Does this lower are of the earth please you? Me running into you has probably stopped your exploration.." and that was annoying for her, wasn't it? "If you'd like, I can accompany you around so you can see everything. I don't want to halt your fun." It was the least the unicorn could do.. and it was probably the most polite and friendly thing he had ever offered in his life!
