Kenai moved through the Kusini lands with a small smile on his face, very content with the day. It was nearing dusk and he couldn't think of any time of day that was more beautiful... except perhaps dawn. Well, perhaps he thought all times of the day were beautiful.
He was moving toward the dens, looking for his family. Though he loved them dearly he did not get to spend as much time with them as he might have liked, he was usually going about by himself to research plants and how they helped lions and how some even hurt their kind.
But he dearly missed all of the time he used to spend with Ayo, and he knew his cubs deserved much more time from him. His smile broadened as he reached the den sights, hoping that Ayo and perhaps the children were around.

Ayo was lounging beside the enterance to the dens, the fading rays of the sun setting behind her leaving the cool embrace of the night upon them. She was watching Akin bat around a bone as they settled in for the evening from the days activities. Life had changed alot for Ayo since she had met Kenai, with six beautiful cubs and a family to call her own.
She chuckled as she watched her young son play and looked up at the approching lion. She smiled at him and tilted her head. "well hello there stranger." she said softly as her mate approched.
Akin paused in his playing and barrled towards his father at full speed. "Daddy!"

(Akin reminds me of a surfer -grins-)
Kenai's dark eyes lit up as he spotted his beloved mate and one of his sons outside, happy they were there. He let out a deep laugh as Akin came racing toward him and as he aproached Kenai bowed down playfully, his son barreling into him. He flopped on his side, as if Akin had knocked him over, and grunted, laughing. "Akin! You've gotten so big!" He playfully swiped a large paw at his young son, who reminded him very much of his mother whom he missed dearly, if in color rather than personality.
He shot a grin toward his stunning mate as he lay on the ground. "Stranger?" He said, play-acting that the comment hurt him. "I know I am not around as much as I would like to be, but I would hardly call myself a stranger!" He teased her, though after a moment he could no longer keep up the act and a delighted grin spread across his features. "Have the cubs been behaving themselves, darling?"

(haha I never thought of him like that, but now I can see it. XD)
Akin laughed as his father tipped over and he landed on top of him. He growled playfully at his father and nipped at his ear. "Momma says Im gonna be as big and strong as you someday." he said with a proud grin and puffing out his chest. He laughed a bit as he wrestled with his father, glad for the attention he was reciving.
Ayo raised herself off the ground and sat up, her tail flicking softly as she laughed, watching the two playfight. "Ahh well, lest your home now." she said with a playful wink of her golden eyes. She chuckled at the two again before trotting up beside Akin and Kenai and nuzzling her mate softly. "Its good to have you back." she said before a wide grin spread across her face. "Ahh the cubs are fine, this one." she nudged Akin who laughed sheepishly. "seems to have a bit of his fathers need to wander off."

He chuckled and ruffled Akin's 'mane' with a grin on his face. "Probably bigger than your father, you know." He said, he was being quite honest too. Kenai was a good sized male, but their genes seemed to bring about some rather large lions!
As Ayo moved toward them and leaned down to nuzzle him he smiled and shifted, pulling his body up slightly to butt his head lovelingly against her own and lick her nose sweetly. "Is that so?" He asked, winking at her as he looked to Akin again. "And just where have you been wandering, boy?" His tail flicked a little and he laughed again, his family put him in such a good mood!

Ayo chuckled softly as Kenai licked her nose. She nipped at him playfully and purred softly, nuzzling up against him before flopping down beside the two. "Oh yes, he is very much his fathers son." she said with a large grin.
Akin flattened his ears back and smiled sheepishly at his parents, his mother had scolded him more than once for wandering off alone. Still, his father said he might even be bigger and stronger than him one day, and that made him happy! He giggled a little bit and shruged his shoulders at his fathers question. "Uh.. everywhere" he said with a laugh. "where ever my paws take me!"

It felt nice to have his mate and one of his sons laying by his side, it was as it should be! He wondered where the other little tykes were, hopefully with one of the many Poza in the lands and if they were lucky it was not his brother-in-law, Uumikaji. He felt bad for any cubs who had to be watched over by the grouch... he chuckled lightly at the thought and rolled to his back, watching the amazingly blue sky.
"It's good to explore, as long as you let your mother know you're going off and you do not stray from these lands, Akin." He grinned, glancing to Ayo to make sure what he was telling the boy was okay. "Though there are dangerous places in these lands too, it is easy to get lost in the woods where the spirits roam," Of course, the spirits were made up but it was a good story to tell the youth to keep them weary of places they were not meant to be. "And the river. The Harvest Goddess might try to claim you back to her if you get too close to the water.." He grinned, gently prodding his son's soft belly with his large paw, so as to not scare him too badly with the stories.
The truth was, the Harvest Goddess had abandoned this pride when his mother's generation fled... he could only hope she would be back.

Akin watched his father with wide wonderous eyes, the stories scared him but filled him with and excited thrill as well. He wanted to go into the forest and meet these spirits and meet the goddess that had blessed these lands. Adventurous as ever, he grinned at his father and puffed out his chest. "Im not scared." he said, flicking his tail from side to side.
Ayo smirked a little as she watched her son and cast him a knowing eye while turning her attention to Kenai. "Akin doesnt know the difference between stupidity and bravery, a lesson hard learned I think." she said and playfully bonked him on the head with her paw.

Kenai started to laugh as his son said he was not scared and he prodded him a bit more, playing. "Not scared, are you?" He said gruffly as he glanced to Ayo with an apologetic smile, it seemed he had only increased Akin's adventerous tendencies rather than caution him a little. "A hard lesson to learn.." He agreed as he nuzzled into her side. "But one a lion can only learn on his own, hmm?" He breathed, gently nipping her cheek in a loving manner.
Oh! But if Akin.. "Akin... you have to promise me not to play too close to those waters, thought." He said, his voice suddenly taking on a very serious tone.

Akin grinned at his father and nodded his head. "Yes, Im not scared. Im going to be a big strong lion like you. You're not scared of anything!" he excliamed and nudged his father back with a laugh. As his fathers tone took a different tone Akin's smile faded. He tilted his head a little to the left and furrowed his brow. "Why not?" he asked, not understanding what was so dangerous about the water.
Ayo kept silent, watching the interation between the two. It was nice to see father and son playing even if it was bosting Akin's natural curiosities and need to impress.

Kenai smiled lightly, Akin was wonderful. All of his children were wonderful, it was amazing to see them grow and watch how they changed and developed. Hs sighed lightly, though not out of irritation, as Akin asked him why not. He did not want to scare the boy, and therefore didn't want to tell him he might die and that would cause terrible heart ache for Ayo and Kenai. "Akin, those waters have claimed many strong lions to them. They even almost took one of your uncles, Uumikaji. It was shear luck he did not drown there... do you understand?" His tone was soft, patient.

Akin furrowed his brow as he listened intently to his fathers words. He wanted to make sure he fully understood what he was trying to say. The waters where bad? He blinked softly and slowly nodded. If one of his uncles had nearly been taken by those churning waters then it was best to stay away that was certain. If father was upset by them, as big and strong as he was it must be bad! "I will!" he said with a vigorus nodding of his head. His tawny mane falling in front of his eyes as he did so.
Ayo chuckled softly and nuzzled Akin's side. "There's a good boy." she said softly. A smooth rumbling coo issued from her throat as she watched the two. Akin was a good lad but sometimes he forgot he was just a cub and with his head in the clouds would put himself unknowingly in harms way, it was good to see Kenai getting through to him.

He smiled and nodded, letting out a relieved breath of air. "Good." After a moment he shifted, to press his large body closer to Ayos. "Now my darling, have you hunted today?" He said softly, with an innocent grin on his maw.
He was feeling a bit hungery, and also curious to where his other children were. No matter, he was sure they were all behaving well.

Ayo grinned and nuzzled in against Kenai with a smile. A light purr event excaped her for a moment as she felt his warm fur against her own. She rested her head against his mane and sighed contently. "As a matter of fact, Akin helped me get a warthog earilyer today." she said with a grin and a wink at her son. She would leave out the part where Akin had wandered to close to it and it had turned to charge him.
Akin grinned sheepishly at his father knowing full well how things had gone down. The cub was not yet an experianced hunter, but with his mothers teachings he might someday become one.

He grinned and nuzzled into her neck as he licked slightly at her fur, grooming her though she was fully clean. "Ah, really!" He said, grinning with a hint of pride in his voice as he nudged Akin with a paw. "How big was the fellow... was he tasty?" His eyebrows shot up as he questioned his mate and son, chuckling lightly.
Ah, this was nice. He would have to remember to stop playing with plants so often and make more time for his family. They were all growing so quickly and he loved them all dearly, but he knew he was bad at keeping track of time and spending it with his children and mate. It was never like that before coming back into the Kusini, but he'd thrown his hole being into healing herbs when they'd come back, cheered by Ayo becoming his mate and starting a family and trying to forget of his mother's horrid death, even if it always lingered in the back of his mind.
