Shahidi shifted as she stretched awake, the sun was just sinking below the horizon and it created a soft, red glow across the land. Her slender paws flexed as she moved toward the waterhole she'd stationed herself by, every day searching the lands for her beloved. Everyday he did not turn up, but she never lost faith. He would come back to her, and once again their life could be happy... it could begin.

Her eyes narrowed as they passed over her reflection and she sighed softly, her heart paining her. She lapped up some of the warm liquid before turning and starting her night time patrol. She would find him, one day.

He had not slept nor had he eaten in days, maybe three or four in counting. His heart was starting to ache with a deep pain, a pain that pushed fear and worry into his mind. Perhaps he would never see her again, perhaps it was a one-time-thing—Fate had been so cruel to them, so misleading. He didn’t understand why he had to be so far away from her, he had no idea where she was anymore, not after they took her from him that fateful night.

He would have done anything for her, he had always loved her. Always.

His eyes narrowed as his dark form moved slowly over grassy hills, and with each step he took he found himself missing her more.

Someday, someday he would see her again.

Someday.

She found herself pausing at the top of a hill, face tilted toward the sun, her eyes shut as she breathed slowly and quietly. She swore, sometimes she could feel him on the wind, knew he was out there... but africa was so large, she was constantly moving... were they fated to be? Yes... yes, they had to be. There was no one she could love more, not even falsely.

She moved down the hill with her eyes scanning the area. She no longer called out for the male she loved so dearly, just kept watch for him. When would she be able to lay against him again? Where would it be that their destinies intertwined once more, the love they promised each other be carried out? Her nostrils flared and she thought it a cruel thing that her mind play such a dirty trick on her, brining his sent from her memories which she'd not smelt for so long

He would stop at first only to rest, standing tall though slightly tilted to the side. His left shoulder was sore and had been cut open in a fight a few days ago. The dried crusty-blood covered the area, so he didn’t worry about it like he should have. To him it was really the last worry on his mind. All he could think about was her, seeing her again.

He wanted to cry out her name, he wanted to yell it out until his voice ran score and his body limp, but he found himself only standing, looking, and waiting. She once told him if he looked hard enough they would see each other again, if only for a moment… sometimes he wished this was true.

He wanted to come back to her, just for a while to see her face, feel her warmth again.

He wanted to keep his promise, so at least she knew where he was.

“I will find you again..”

She took a deep breath, eyes shutting as she walked. The smell was so captivating, tantalizing. Never before had her mind played such cruel jokes on her, and perhaps it was the work of the gods being played out. They seemed to love the cruel joke of love long lost, it seemed one of their favorite scenarios to play out on the savanna. It only made sense that was why she could smell him, every little bit of him.

But the smell was mixed with something metallic, something like blood. Her eyes snapped opened and she looked around slowly, her body moving close to the ground as she automatically started to stalk through the long grass. What animal was wounded and laying about?

Her gaze moved too fast over the grasses and when she caught a glimpse of dreary color to the east she halted completely, her eyes wide. No, she could not build up hope like this to be let down, like so many times before. Instead she she started to move in the direction of the dusky shape, and as she got closer her heart began to pound, it literally hurt. No, no it was not a trick... Her maw hung open, her breathing was heavy.

His bright blue eyes narrowed as he lifted his gaze and frowned. Something, someone was drawing near. He wasn’t in any shape to fight… he wouldn’t be able to win if this new comer was looking to start trouble. Slowly the large male settled upon his white-kissed paws and let his eyes rest upon the approaching figure.

It couldn’t it! It just couldn’t! He felt his whole body turn with anger, disbelief and shock.

This HAD to be a dream, it just HAD to be. Nothing this good ever happened to him and he was sure of it. She was long gone, he would never see her again, but… then why was her smell so close, the old feelings he once had for her soon came back, everything he felt back then started to bubble and without a word he moved himself into a mad dash at her direction.

He would find her again. It had to be true.

Her breath caught in her throat in a way that made it very difficult to breath as the shape started to lumber toward her. It was no joke! This was the truth, this was the fate they had promised each other!

She could feel herself already crying as she picked up her pace, speechless as she made her way to him. When she was close enough she spring, meaning to tackle him in such a loving manner, all of her emotion was brought over boil

At her push forward he latched his paws around her and fell backwards with her, nuzzling her and purring like crazy. He was in a dream of her, it just had to be… she was here again with him! No longer were they torn apart by lies and hate. She was really here with him, close to him, it was perfect.

“Tell me you aren’t a dream, and if you are kill me so I never have to awaken from this moment.”

As he spoke he nuzzled his cheek against her own, holding her tightly within his grasp. He wouldn’t lose her, not again.

“I came back…I walked for so long..”

I searched every day.." She whispered, her heart felt like it was breaking because of all of the intense imotions that were flowing into it, how happy and panicked she was at finally seeing her beloved once again. How to describe such a feeling? It was almost as if she expected this intense feeling of hope, love, happiness... all of it might just be some cruel joke, and how could she stand that? "Oh if this were another dream surely I would throw myself from a cliff... I couldn't stand this being a dream.." She breathed into his fur, lightly biting onto his chin as she tried to push her body into his, become one with him so she would never be seperated from him again. "The hours... the days... all of this time has been so endless and cruel... you're really back.."

“I am.”

Was all he COULD manage to say before nuzzling her deeply, licking at her face and ears. He never wanted this to end, this feeling he felt when he was with her; this love-sick feeling he got when he was around her truly was the only thing that had kept him alive for this long. He parted his maw to speak, saying.

“I have missed you so.”

Before he could mouth any other words he found himself just gazing at her in disbelief, she was such a blessing. He didn’t know how they had found one another, but they had. Nothing to bring him down now, not while she was beside him.

“Where have you been all this time…?”
