Personal opinions: For the most part Ryo is a caring and sensitive guy who would do anything to protect his friends. However, he is also very willing to go off alone and get his butt kicked by the Dynasty just to save his friends. For example, in order to save Rowen from being destroyed by the Dyansty while he's floating in outer space, Ryo goes off with the intentions of riding the second nexus of evil energy (think large mound of red glowing spaghetti) into outer space. His plan goes awry however, when Kento catches him in the process of sneaking off and they go off together.

He also gets his butt kicked by his friends attacks when Talpa uses their powers against him. Knowing that Talpa has absorbed his friends, Ryo refuses to attack Talpa even when they're holding Talpa in place so that Ryo can destroy him because he's afraid of hurting his friends.

So yes, Ryo lets himself get beat up by the enmey and then beats himself up about his friends being kidnapped. But at least he's a man of action!! 3nodding
