Silence lay over the open plains like a heavy blanket as a young rabbit sniffed the air, then nibbled once more at the grass. The young buck kept testing the air every once in a while before resuming his dinner, but one time paused, seeming displeased with what he smelled. Sniff sniff....sniff sniff....then he was off, like a flash, disappearing quickly into the nearby tall grasses that surrounded the plain, setting it off from the forest.
A tiger-striped pup stepped just as silently from the grasses on the other side of the plain, disappointment obvious on his muzzle. He was hungry and that rabbit had smelled good. However, food was plentiful enough here on the Southern plains and while the attempt had been daring for a pup, it wasn't as if he hadn't been successful before. This just wasn't his lucky day was all. Apparently, it was the rabbit's, he thought with wry amusement. There was still time to attempt another hunt today, so there was no need to let his mood slump. He'd go grab a drink at the nearest source of fresh water, then set out to mark his next target.

Fea had been laying in wait in a field of tall golden grass. She was watching a small herd of deer waiting for one to step just close enough. But suddenly a rabbit came hopping madly by and startled the deer. Fea sighed "Lovely...now I can't feed the pack....or myself."
She got up and started to trot off. The day was lovely and the air was filled with the fragrance of blooming flowers and the sound of buzzing bees. She swished her long elegant tail from side to side and headed for the nearest stream for a good drink of some cool fresh water before heading out for another attempt at the hunt.

The tiger-striped pup, known by the more common name of Warren, paused to sniff the air before altering his direction slightly. Fresh water was nearby and he only had to pinpoint its location so he could get a drink and start the next hunt refreshed. The scent of deer was strong on the winds and though it made his mouth water at the thought, he knew better than to think he'd be a match for any deer on his own. He was ambitious, but not stupid.
No, he'd find another rabbit or something more suitable for his next target. Another sniff of the wind made the pup pause, however. That was no prey animal. It was a strong scent...a dominant scent. Instantly wary, he continued on his way, but more cautious in his steps this time. There was a high-ranking wolf about and until he knew exactly their position or intentions, he'd have to watch himself.

Fea had lowered herself down and was drinking from the cool stream. It quenched her thirst and made her ready for another go at the hunt. The deer where still in the area and unaware of her luckily.
She rose to her feet and sniffed for where they had moved to only to find the scent of a young wolf in the air. She stilled and looked about the grassy bank.

Warren froze, nose testing the air. The other was definitely female...high ranking. A beta at the least, but more likely an alpha...but alone from the scent of things. He'd best be wary until he knew what the other's intentions were. If nothing else, be ready to run...
He crested a low hill and found himself on the opposite bank of a small stream, staring at a brightly-colored adult female on the other side. Immediately, he set his posture low and respectful. Should he speak first? Wait to be addressed? He wasn't used to company, so he wasn't sure, but settled for a brief, polite salutation and nod of his head.
'Greetings.'
