The days were just as arid as it was when she and the cubs arrived, but Sparra felt refreshed after a long night's rest and the heat was somewhat softened by the fact that the sun was still in the process of rising.
The young wandering adult felt a sense of pride and a sense of responsability when it came to her newest charges, though the lot were incredibly frustrating.
"You four stay here, I'll fetch something for us to eat... But you gotta stay here, okay?"
And they all had agreed, though she did not know how long the fidgety cubs would actually follow her orders.
So far there had been no luck. She had almost caught a small rabbit, but luck was on the rabbit's side and it escaped.
The dusty and brown hued female plopped down on her haunches and peered into the murky and low waters of the lake that she and the cubs had found. Rain had yet to replenish it, but the soothing and cool waters were what she needed. She dipped her head and lapped at the remains of the lake to quench her thirst.

Xesni prowled around the small patches of grass Sparra had left him and the other cubs in. His eyes landed on a small, dull grasshopper as it jumped around. He dropped down into a low crouch, his hind end wiggling as he prepared to pounce on the insect. A small purring growl rolled from his throat as he launched himself at it, his paws crossing over one another as he landed. His tail lashed in excitement as he peeked under his small paws.
...Nothing. He huffed, straightening up as he looked around for the "toy". Upon seeing nothing, he huffed again, puffed out his chest, and sat back on his haunches in disappointment. 'Oh, poo,' he thought, watching the rising sun. It was hot, he knew that for a fact. Of course, his being a dark color didn't help that fact either.

Sparra lifted her head and sighed. For the time being her thirst was quenched, but she needed to catch something before midday. Usually dawn and dusk were the most active time for smaller creatures, which was what she was limited to hunting without the help of a pride. She was fine sustaining herself off of smaller creatures, but it made for a difficult task to feed four hungry, growing cubs off of that.
Suddenly she was sure she heard a sound. Her ears pricked and she slowly turned her head. Tall grass nearby was rustling. The cubs were supposably where she had left them and she had not scented another lion, so it must of been something she and the little ones could eat! It had to be!
The young adult crouched low as her amber eyes pinned on the spot.

His ears laying back on his head, Xesni peeked out of the grass. 'Uh oh,' he thought, his eyes landing on Sparra, the lioness that took care of him and three other cubs. He gulped, retreating back into the brown grass. He knew if she caught him outside of their "safe spot", she'd drag him around by the tuft of his tail. Either that, or feed him to a bunch of crows.
He shuddered, thinking of his little fear. He was an ornithophobiac, meaning he had a strong fear of birds. They were nasty and vile and, to put it simply, just plain weird! They had beady eyes and sharp noses and strange little feet... They were just unnatural! He shuddered again, curling his tail around himself to virtually disappear. [[I had to make him afraid of birds. xD I thought it would be cute! ^^']]

Sparra's sharp claws kneaded at the tough dirt beneath her paws and she prepared to spring. She shot through the grass and made to lunge at the smaller creature, but quickly skidded to a rather comical halt. Grass and dirt seemed to fly everywhere as she took care not to hit the youngster. Her amber eyes were wide with fright. She could of mauled him!
"Xesni?" She muttered the cubs name out of shock. It was Xesni, wasn't it? She was still trying to learn and remember the four, but she was getting better and she was pretty sure this male was Xesni.
"What are you doing out here!?"
OOC: Cute! ^^

Xesni looked up at her, his eyes wide. His jaws worked as he tried to answer her. He couldn't make himself speak, as much as he wanted to. It took him a minute to find the words he wanted. "I wanted to see if I could find something to eat," he murmured, "you know, like you."
Oh yeah, he was trying flattery. It was his only chance if he wanted to get out of being in trouble. His tail swished behind him, the light tipped tuft dragging in the hot dirt. He crouched down lower, his ears laying down on his head as he did. Sparra was going to kill him, he just knew it.

"I told you to stay in that spot with the other three! Y'never know what's 'untin' out here!" She chastized the cub soundly and her calm amber eyes were narrowed; her long tail lashed at the air behind her as she spoke.
"You could'a been killed! I thought you was food!" Her lips were parted in a sneer and her fangs glinted in the light of the rising sun. "An' the other three! Well! What about them, eh? They stay still? Probably not, since you didn't!" Well one might of... The little creamy one seems to listen a little bit better, she thought silently to herself.

Xesni whimpered softly, averting his eyes from her. "I'm sorry, Mom. It was just so boring! The others were asleep when I snuck off," he said, inching his way over to her so that he could nuzzle her leg. He made himself as small as possible, a soft whining noise coming evenly from his throat.
He hoped with everything he had that he wasn't in too much trouble. He doubted he wasn't, though. She did seem kind of mad.

Mom...? It never really was a title the young wanderer had associated with herself. She had not planned on settling and having cubs, yet these four were plopped down before her like some strange persuasion to lead her back to Pride life.
Her heart melted as the little one nuzzled her foreleg, but outwardly she did not express it. She could sympathize with his being bored, as she had been a fidgety cub at one point in time. Still, he could not go without learning a lesson from this.
"Xesni. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to." She scolded soundly and moved her leg away from him with haste. "It is your job to stay still and put where I tell you, or else somethin' might decide it wants a cub for breakfast..."

Sat to one side, the greyish-brown tribal cub frowned at his new 'family'. He wasn't impressed by them, but then, he wasn't really impressed with his life thus far anyway. He had been left to die by his own mother, and as he had followed his old Prides' footprints, had collapsed and thought himself dead. Even the vultures had seen the easy meal and started circling. That was, until this Sparra lioness happened upon him and took him under her wing. To begin with, he had been grateful, but a seed of doubt had been planted in his chest, and with that, it had blossomed into a deep fear of Prides as a whole. He often started awake at night to the fear he had been left once more, but seeing the others around him, he only became more and more bitter. Why were they still there? Why had he not been left like his first family had done? It confused his young mind, and it made him a very unlikely den-mate to the other cubs Sparra had picked up along the way.
It was true Trali was a little older, slightly bigger then his den-mates as his old Pride had been known for. He was a large cub for his age, but still, he had been the first found, and he had little patience for the younger cubs, acting so childish as they did. Golden eyes surrounded by their tribal markings looked around, spying dark shadows a little further off in the distance. Well, Sparra had obviously been unsuccessful and caught herself a Xesni. What a silly cub he was! Rolling onto his back and using his paws to pad at the small round sun high above, Trali thought of all the cubs that had come to be his 'family'. All of them he knew little about. The creamy female one was a bit of a swat, always listening to Sparra and making sure she was good and did everything she was told. The other, darker female, he had no clue on, and the redish male, well, he seemed to be a bit of a daydreamer, wandering off. Sure, Trali was one for taking his own steam and going off on his own when the fancy took him, but he was always sneaky about it, getting back before it was noticed he was gone. Golden eyes narrowed at the wavering shadows, upside-down from his position on his back. Rolling back over, dust coating his greyish-brown coat, he frowned once more.
"When are we going? I hate it out here, its too hot, and I'm hungry!!!" His voice was loud and echoed a little around the plain. His ears were laid back, and his tail lashed out behind him. He sat up, shaking out his head so that a cloud of dust rose off of him, and his face was pulled into its permenant scowl, lips pursed as his golden eyes drilling into the two dark figures, distorted by the heat. "Come ON!! I want to get back already!!"

Xesni winced as Sparra made the reference of getting eaten. He did not like that at all. He looked up at her, not bothering to hide the slight fear in his eyes. "You mean like.. birds?" He gulped, trying to swallow the lump in his throat. Shivering at that thought, he pressed himself against her leg again.
If she said yes, he'd never leave where-ever she left them again. "I'm sorry, again, Mom," he whispered, hoping she'd forgive him.

"Birds are part of it." She snorted and nudged the cub forward with her maw, back towards where Trali waited for them, in the place she had designated to begin with.
"When you get caught and eaten, the predator that caught you will eat what it wants and the rest of you will be picked apart by birds." Aware of the cub's fear of avians and always blunt, Sparra tried to scare him into behaving. "Now, if you don't want to be eaten, you have to do what you are told." Her ears flattened at the sound of Trali's voice. If there was any prey in the area, they were sure to be alerted even more so of the presence of the lioness and cubs.

Lore snuck up behind Trali, a smile on her face. She pounced on his mischeviously, saying "Gotcha!" triumphantly. "Hey, Trali! Where'd the others go?" Lore inquires, the flower on her ebony-furred face titing along with her head. She walked in circles around her pride brother, her crimson-tufted tail swishing happily. "So?"

Xesni gulped, his small body shaking visibly as she nudged back to the "safe spot". Oh, she'd scared him all right; she'd scared the poor cub half to death. Of course, it was for his own good. The Gods knew he didn't want to be eaten. "O-okay," he murmured, still shaking, "b-but hurry back, okay, Mom?" With a tiny shudder, he nuzzled her cheek as she went to nudge him again, and darted off towards Trali.
It took his little paws a moment to get him back to his pride-mate, but he got there safe and sound. And in one piece. His dark eyes found Lore and he grinned. "Lore!" He purred, pouncing on her and nipping at her ear playfully.

"I will..."
Sparra stood tall and held her head high as she watched the small cub dart off. She noticed his trembling, but it was most certainly for the better. She was growing fond of the little one, just as she was the others. Her ears were pricked and her tail swished as she followed him with her amber eyes, until he arrived beside Trali and Lore.
"Rambunctious little rotters..." She muttered, but cheerily, to herself as she turned about to resume hunting.
