Devil NightShade ((I'm gonna start form th every beginning xD)) Markus had become restless, pawing a lot, tossing his mane in agitation. He hadn't hunted in weeks now and it was beginning to show in his actions and the way he spoke as he started becoming snappy without even realizing he was. Markus was like a vampire in some ways, he couldn't go to long without a hunting or he seemed to start breaking down first in attitude then in appearence, and finally internally as he became to weak to even stand on his own. The stallion tossed his head again his bright blue mane flying about his neck as he spun on his heels and faced his mate. "I have to hunt Mista..." he knew she hated it when he did, especially since Markus liked hunting the big game .. dangerous yuma whom gave him a run for his money in a battle. He walked swiftly over to her his hooves pounding with dull thuds against the earth beneath him. Slowly he lowered his massive head and nuzzled her cheek his mane falling about both their heads as he stood above her drinking in her lovely scent lost in the moment. But he didn't stay lost long, his hunger made him jerk his head up and step back as his stomach roared loudly in protest to the lack of meat that had been given to it. "I'll be home soon, I promise my love," she swirled around and galloped into the shadows. The soft tinkling of the armor on his head and legs continued to sound long after he had disappeared into the darkness. Orisis Mista had remained behind him, where she normally was. Two steps behind and one to the right, it was her place. Stealthily she watched as each movement he made seemed to be mechanical, not emotion or the fluid grace he normally had was attached to each movement. A soft, ever so gentle, sigh left her lips as she watched as he turned to face her. She could see it in his eyes, the lust of blood. The will to feed. Nibbling on her lower lip, she fought back her slight sobs, knowing he could danger himself, get slaughtered or some home incredibly wounded. Hiccuping slightly, she shook her body to control herself. "Pleas be careful for me, my love..." She whispered, quickly pushing herself flush against him, snuggling her snout against his neck, right under the armor. And then the next.... He was gone. His promise hung in the air, like a string floating through the breeze. He had repeated those same lines each and every time he left to feed, and she would feel her heart crack each and every time he had to. She loved him dearly, and always would, but she ached knowing the what ifs.... Not knowing if he;d return. Not knowing anything when he left. Not knowing what she'd ever do without him. A tear trickled down her darkened snout as she whispered to the wind. I love you.... Come back to me.Devil NightShade Days by, hours and minutes moving in their steady march and yet Markus hadn't returned. A week crept slowly by, then two ... Markus had been gone far to long and it weighed heavily on the herd's minds. It weighed even heavier on Mare's though, the German stallion felt his son's disappearance like a great gap in his withered heart. Markus was his favorite son, so strong, yet so willing to follow his own heart and soul no matter the consequences that wold come his way, and still his was powerful almost powerful enough to beat his father. Nightmare was always there to meet Mista when she arrived, and it was always the same ... no news of Markus. He hadn't contacted anyone or searched any of them out, he had disappeared to the four winds. As the third week drew near Mare knew he could wait no longer, he had to find his son, had to set their hearts to ease and bring Markus back. Mare left the herd lands even before the sun had risen above the horizon and traveled far and wide always searching, looking, seeking any sign of his son. It wasn't till his return trip home when he passed through a spot Markus rarely hunted that a scent so emotionally and physically sickening it made him hurl brought the huge stallion to a halt and for the first time fear crossed his eyes. "MARKUS!!"His strangled cry rang across the hills deep and booming, and he flew like a bat out of hell towards the scent of blood, the scent of his son's blood. It had been nearly a week since Mare had left when the soft thud of hooves awoke Mista from her slumber. The hoof beats weren't Markus's though, they were the steady uneven hoof falls of Nightmare approaching, but there was no steady twinkling of armor that accompanied him. Orisis As the days turned into nights, the nights back to days until weeks went by. each nightfall one could see the steady shadow of Mista staring off into the darkness where she had last saw Markus. Eyes watering and her body completely, she waited. When he did not come home by the morning, she returned, exhausted, to her home and slept through the day under the watchful gaze of her son Constatine. Worrying so much began to effect her in more way then one. She seldom spoke now, unless spoken to. She was withdrawn. Sometimes she was slightly psychotic, muttering to the air and calling it Markus, as if it eased her pain. She knew something had happened, it ate away at her heart. Each time she met up with Mare to bear false news, her heart shattered every time knowing he had not returned, and she grew more desperate. Mare had been sent out on his own will to find his son, how she wished she could've gone. Again, nights and days went by. Sighing, she curled up to sleep after a couple hours of waiting, but soon found herself awake to the thundering of massive hooves heading her way. In excitement, she bolted up and toward the sound, only to stare in disbelief at the running stallion. It was Mare! Quickly, she thundered out to meet up with him. His armor gone... What was this?

Nightmare slowed as he entered the clearing, his gorgeous coat was marred and riddled with more scars than one could count, some areas it had even been burned off by the metal armor during summer months when it was heated to to the point of almost becoming red hot and the grotesque skin of the claw reached across his belly and up his neck trying to get to his face it seemed. He was looking straight ahead but seemed to see nothing, his mouth was slack in a frown.
He stopped and his eyes slow turned towards her "....Mista..." the stallion turned his head away unable to say more. His eyes squeezed shut and he bared his fangs in a grimace of sheer pain as his ears flattened down against his skull.
That would have been the first signs for anybody ... Nightmare didn't act like this, he never showed emotion, never let others see him without the heavy armor.
A shuddering breath escaped him and his eyes slowly opened "I'm ...." his voice was cut off by a silent sob ... I'm so sorry Mista... I waited to long ... I didn't listen to my gut and go when I should have."
He was shaking his head now, trying to drive the image of the clearing form his head, the grass deep crimson with blood, shreds of his son's coat laying scattered everywhere, shreds of leathery wings, strands of the beautiful blue hair.
The stallion started to tremble his wings were shaking. He'd already told the herd, they had seemed to go into shock and disbelief. Nightshade had broken down and crumpled into a sobbing and screeching lump of immobile flesh, even Ernsta had become quiet and withdrawn with the news.
He didn't know how Mista would take this, but she had to know.

As mare got closer, she slowed her pace to meet him, her eyes wide as a scent so unfamiliar around Mare penetrated her nostrils. Snuffing loudly, she regained her breath in quick little juts of air, her heart racing against her breast, as if trying to get loose from her body.
As Mare shifted before her, the massive scars contracting and flexing with each roll of the stallion's muscles. She soon grew agitated as the large stallion spoke nothing.
Narrowing her eyes and setting her stance, her heart weakened as the tone of the voice he used, her body bending toward his as he showed pain.
Her body went alert once more.
"What is it?" Her voice was soft, a delicate flower that would soon have it's petals brutally ripped off. Her heart sank deep within her, knowing that horrible news awaited her as the Warrior before her continued.
As his words sank in, she stared at him with wide golden eyes that began to brim with large, watery tears. Shedding down her snout in large droplets, falling to the earth beneath her.
There was no way he was gone. She told herself, over and over as she stared forward, frozen on the place. Something burst within her, and suddenly she shrank away from the large stallion, her body shaking as sob wrenched forth from her lips.
"No! Y-you're lying!" She screeched out, but knew her words were nothing as she crumbled to the ground in a heap of sobs and swirling dress. Her body shook with tremendous hiccups, and a loud wail left her lips.
Nothing was left for her now. How could she live knowing...?
Without a second thought, she got up and ran from Mare, her body moving on pure mechanical antics, each movement choppy and sloppy. Several times she tripped over her coat, and several cuts marred her flesh from the bushes and trees that attacked her while she ran. She ran until she couldn't no more, collapsing once more in a heap of battered body and broken hearts.
A shrill, high note left her, like that of a bird. Full of mourning, loss and pain. It was the same trill she used when calling for her mate, perhaps he would come to her? Over and over, she let out the broken note until her throat grew dry.

He watched her, feeling another chasm ripped through what tiny part of his heart was left beating. The pain crossing her eyes, her face every inch of her being mirrored his own but maybe even more intense than the ripping, tearing, and shredding that his heart was being put through. He stepped forward stretching out his wings to comfort her only to have her wheel away and race off in the next moment.
"Mista..."
He galloped after her, he couldn't leave her out there alone , broken, and defeated like she was. he'd already told the herd he wouldn't be coming home tonight, or anytime soon for that matter, they would have to protect themselves.
The same trees and bushes that had clawed at her ripped at his exposed flesh. The wounds were small but they seem to hurt even more than the wounds that had caused the massive scars an burns criss crossing and dotting his body. Her shrill high pitched note made him falter and he felt bile rise in his throat again, he had let this happen ... he hadn't gone quick enough after his son when his gut had screamed at him to do it once Markus had left.
He moved slowly over to Mista and stood over her. His legs were like stone pillars and he lowered his massive head and pressed his cheek to hers as his long mane fell about them. His wings came down creating, well he hoped, a comforting barrier from the outside world.
He kept his head low and started singing a soft poem he knew Markus had told her many time in his husky German, yet beautiful, voice.
Even after finishing the poem he stayed there with her, singing softly, old German lullabies and melodies. Day slowly crept to night and still Mare hadn't move, he wouldn't abandon his son's mate in her time of need, he wouldn't let her harm herself either.
Poem Translation:
When I am gone please do not weep for me; Though death has stilled the beating of my heart, My love for you lives on within my soul.
Though body lies beneath the earth, my soul Flies free upon the breeze. Your love for me Will keep me living yet deep in your heart.
So do not grieve for me, my Love, take heart And hearken to the whispers of my soul, For I am always near. Remember me!
And hold me close within your heart and soul.

Slowly, her voice disappeared from her, her vocal cords contracting viciously but only a strangle choke left her that was a mix from a sound and a sob. As it died, she curled her head down to snuggle into her folded legs, sniffling loudly while her body shook from the silent weeps she let out.
She didn't feel presence of Mare's body, she felt nothing to the outside world as she felt her inner world explode. Her once whole heart now lay in shambles within her breast, having been shredded into pieces so small, and then lit aflame within her breast. And yet, the pain was ten times worse.
Her veins felt like they carried some sort of acid, burning away at her body and her mind, although she slowly grew numb.
Only then did she feel Mare's body heat, for her body felt incredibly cold to her now, and she slowly lifted her head as his cheek was pressed to hers. The warmth traveled through her, and yet it did not warm her. Softly, she whimpered as the tears that fell from her eyes soaked both her and Mare's cheeks as they pressed themselves together.
Golden eyes seemed to loose their colour as she stared ahead, nothing but horror showed within the depths as she listened closely to the soft singing mare was doing. The voice carried through her head, it's German language registering and then the words came to.
Her mind still worked, but only mechanically.
Through glazed eyes, she watched the sun begin to peak over the edge of the horizon and she thought she should fly toward it, actually allow her body to be consumed with the scorching heat. For that is how she felt.

He let the grieving Mare rub her cheek into his, the cool tears barely made him flintch as they soaked into his cheek. His was still singin softly to her, trying to comfort her ad put any fire he could back into her. He shifted to the side, while never letting his cheek leave hers he laid down beside her wrapping his wings around her bodu and staying clsoe the her.
"You have to be strong dear Germen queen ... you have to be strong for yourself and your family .."
He knew it was hard, he was feeling he same pain she was, this was his son and his favorite son. Yet, he knew he had to stay strong for his family whom were all feeling the loss in the worst of ways.
He saw the rising sun and wanted to snort, it elt as though the son shouldn't have been rising that day, rain would have been far more appropriate, besides Markus had liked the rain better.
Nightmare stayed firmly beside his daughter, for she was much like a daughter to him, and comforted her .
He wispered words of kindess, understanding, and all other types to her in his husky voice and stroked her sides with his wings and spaded tail.

As the sun crept slowly over the horizon, her golden eyes stared straight at it, no wince from pain nor any movement of her face except a sudden toss that cause her veil to move. It came around through the air until it tumbled over her face, hiding her agonized eyes and features from Mare's view. Somehow, she felt as if him seeing them made him uneasy.
Movements along her body felt comforting, each caress from Mare warming her slightly and relaxing her body to lean against his. Shivering slightly, her wings shifted to cradle against her back while her neck turned to lay flat against Mare's shoulder.
She needed his comforting silence, his words as well as they thundered through her head. Although, he sounded a tiny bit weak, as if he too had to believe what he said, had to follow it.
"I will try to be strong... But how do we tell them?" She whispered, referring to her children, not knowing if Mare had already given them the horrific news. She shuddered, picturing her beloved Cacillie[sp?] tearing and h3er sons staring in complete shock, numb just like her. Especially Constatine, how he looked up to Markus.
A sudden sob left her lips as his tortured face echoed within her mind.

He stayed by her keeping their bodies close, the sadness in her eyes only worked to make him even more saddened and blame himself for this even more. He shouldn't have let Markus go alone, he should have followed sooner. There were so many 'what if's' and 'should haves' in his mind now, uzzing like an angry swarm of killer bees making it hard for him to think or hear.
He flicked his ears towards her and let out a soft sound, somehting between a sigh and a sob "they know ... the whole herd knows." Their faces were forever engrained in his head, Cacilie, Markus, Constantine, all of them. Shade's wails and crys that had echoed through the herd's forest home still burned his ears and he shivered against his own will.
"We should head back Mista ... your kids will want to see you ..." Nightmare shifted as if he was about to stand but he didn't just yet, he was waiting now for her.
It was going to be a hot and humid day, he could already feel the heat against his bare coat.
His ears twitched towards the twitter of little birds somewhere nearby, normally he would have growled and scared the fragile creatures off but for now his growl was gone ... everything was gone.

The soft sobs she let loose shook her body every so often, her ears flat and her body seemed to be weakened. The twittering of the birds near by would normally cause a smile to curl upon her lips, but her beautiful had faded away to nothing, and wouldn't appear for the slightest.
"They know... Your heart must be in shreds to deliver such news to us all..." Her voice was a soft deadpan, nothing lingered as her words only left her tongue. She was frozen as tears still streamed down her muzzle, causing her veil to stick to her face. Her gown stuck tight to her as well, a sign of the humidity the day will have.
Moving slowly from Mare, she stood her ground, her legs shaking horribly, weak from over exhausting herself, and from heart break. Her wings dangled fruitlessly, dragging slightly, while her head was hung low. The strong willed mare that was there before was gone now, no sign left of her existence.
"Yes, my children need me." Came the soft monotone in her voic3e, her body turning toward the herd and away from the cliff. Flying there was out of the question, she'd just want to pull ehr wings in and tumble to the Earth. A hiccup left her as another sob ran through her lips.
Why? Why didn't she have the guts to go with him? She could've helped! She was his mate for f*ck sakes! She should never have left his side, even int he most gruesome of times! What she did was unforgivable in her mind, and she felt horrid over not being there for him.

He just looked silently at her and then laughed, but there was no humor "you should know that unlike the rest of my family, I never had a heart or soul to shred." He just watched her cooly, Nigthmare was well known to be a murderer it was almost impossible to guess how many innocents he'd killed in his long lifetime and he likely felt the same here having no followed his own gut and followed after his son into the wilderness.
He turned slowly with her towards the forest and started moving. The trees seemed to move aside as if by magic, as his massive body parted then and snapped them. The twitter of the birds stopped as they passed, mostly because of Nightmare's presence in their woods. Most animals were smart, most knew to avoid the German stallion at all costs.
For now though Nightmare mentally was gone as he moved slowly in the underbrush. Though not so much for her sake as that his hooves seemed to be searching the way home without help from his head. Deep within his gut he could already feel a boiling like lava ready to spew from the volcano, the gut feeling that Ernsta was on the move now, it hadn't taken her long after the announcement to go crazy and throw blame. Her first blame had gone straight to her brother and his new mate, that Nightmare and even Markus were allowing stupidity into the herd and they were being cursed.
It hadn't taken long for Nightmare to shut the mare up but he knew she was gathering a backing with her within the family. Although he wouldn't be stepping down soon he knew once he and Shade did the herd would go to hell for the softer or less loved members.

NighMista remained quiet within her little circle of loneliness. Yes, she knew that Nightmare was beside her and yes she knew the stallion seemed to be lost in thought, for normally she would walk behind him, and yet. He was behind her. Flicking her tail, she gently gazed back at him briefly, hearing the birds stop their twittering.
Turning her head back to in front of her, she sighed softly, knowing hell would await her once she reached the grove in which the Germans and her family lived. her wings picked themselves up suddenly, her head arching as a facade set itself upon her body.
Golden eyes hardened as hatred poured from her very pores, but not at anyone, just herself. She began to shape it into a strength, a sin, that would keep her strong and alive, for she would have to repent such a sin.
"Mare, I feel tension and anger up ahead..." She murmured, knowing they were still far away, and yet she could feel the venom that awaited her, that was boiling deep within some one in the family. Nostrils flared, she probably knew who it was. Setting her jaw under her slightly damp veil, she trudged on with hard hoof beats. Birds were heard no where now.

Nightmare's ears flicked towards her and his head cocked to the side. The hatred came off her in tsunami like waves and seemed to crash against his body with intense force, this must of been where Ernsta got it, he knew well that Markus couldn't hate, not even those whom he hunted. His eyes slowly cleared and shook his large head at her words so she had asked .. and now he had to tell.
"Ernsta is on a war path, she blames myself and Markus for allowing 'weak blood to be mingled into the family'" He spoke not only of Drake and Allura but Cacilie and her apparent companions Chikotae. "Some of the family is gathering behind her ... and I'm afraid the time will come all to soon when Shade no longer feels the drive to lead the herd ... and when that day comes it will be unsafe for all those Ernsta deems unworthy."
Not long ago he would have been proud of such darkness in his grandkids but that part of Nightmare had apparently died with the death of his beloved son.
He kept shaking his head slightly, the family he'd worked so hard to get seemed to be falling apart at the seams.

"I'm weak, am I?" The sudden thought of her daughter deeming her, her mother, unworthy set a jolt to her heart and her body flinched with such negative emotions that came with the jolt. Picking up speed in her step, she awaited the time to meet the rest of the family.
She calmly listened to his words, the betrayal of her daughter, the way she deemed those unworthy when she knew not of their strengths. To be honest, she was behind her son Drake when he rallied against his sister, the pain he had felt was hers now. Snorting angrily, she turned a steely glance to mare.
"Ernsta only deems those unworthy because they have feeling, and since when did she suddenly deem my Knight worthy?" Anger seared through her like a hot flame, the passion she once felt for her daughter had suddenly turned to pure hatred.
"The wretch will know her place, even if I have to put her there." She snarled, flexing her wings as muscles quivered along under her dress as it clung to her every curve. Pausing, she looked back at mare's shaking head. "... Is it a bad thing to feel such anger, perhaps even hatred, toward one's child?" She asked, quite soft compared to her icy tone she held before.
"Afterall, you destroyed Jean Luc with your banishment." She suddenly snarled, lips curling up while her eyes narrowed dangerously under the veil. She never gave mare the time to pause, she trudged forward once more, snorting and quivering with complete hatred. Her spaded tail snapped under her cloak.

"Ernsta is proud, strong, and determined ... did she feel any different than she did I would have been more than willing to turn the herd over to her when I stepped down along with Shade ... but her emotionless warlike ways are not what the herd needs" He shook his mane makeing the long silken strands rustle against his thick scarred neck.
"I don't believe she speaks of you Lady Mista, I believe she speaks of Drake and Allura .. and the fact that Cacilie seems to have grown close to the stallion Chikotae." He silently watched as she fumed, hatred was an emotion he knew well, it made the blood boil and strength flow the one's veins but it blinded one to what was going on around them.
"Hate is to strong of an emotion to feel for a child from one's own loins." He stopped as she mentioned the Jean Luc fiasco, he looked away closing her eyes and his sharp fangs ground together. The subject was still a painful one, and Nightmare still felt as though his son wasn't as strong as he could .. no should have been.
With a flick of his tial he moved on behind her, silent now as they entered the herd's woods.
They were nearly there now and the silence of the forest was almost creepy and it grated on his nerves. He had never felt such a feeling before when traveling through these dark silent woods, but he shoved it down, fear was a disease that spread and destroyed all in it's path.
