it kind of makes sense though that the announced attendance includes all of the tickets that were sold but never used.

Almost all teams in all leagues, and most concerts too, report tickets sold and not the turn style number. It really does not make a big difference unless you are book keeping. I don't know why the Crew gave out their actual info or if they didn't, how the paper got it.
The whole things seemed like a big jab at the state of soccer in America. "Oh yeah, there's good attendance, but they still suck because of _________" That i what irks me off. Why not tackle that in minor league hockey or baseball?
MLS has really grown since the first few years. Is there room for more improvement? Sure, there always is! But why does the media have to focus on the bad things?
