Uumikaji slipped through the tall grasses of the Kusini'Mwezi in a slow, tired pace. His head was slightly hung, his gaze on his paws as he moved through the lands and let his mind wander. Nothing felt okay any longer, he'd betrayed Syeira to the largest extent of being able to betray your mate and it was crushing him inside. Sye was still furious with him, and he was not allowed home just now. He didn't really know when he'd be forgiven; if he'd be forgiven.

His tail flicked bitterly and his head slowly came up, his eyes traveling toward the moon. It did nothing for his bitter and self-pitying mood; it was stunning. The moon was huge, full, and the stars were speckled all across the sky. He looked away and scoffed, grumbling and trying to keep his mind off of how much his heart hurt with guilt.

He took a deep breath, his nostrils filling with the smell of the Kusini watering hole, the smallest one there was on the lands. Well, at least not many others seemed to be out tonight. The rumors had spread like wildfire, and if Uumi had not been very welcome around others before, now they were flat at nasty to him. About time, really.

Sirati wandered. She preferred not to stay in any of the popular areas of the Kusini lands for too long as she had no wish to speak to any of the other members of the pride. She was completely disgusted with the entire affair (such an appropriate term) and she'd been hanging out along the borders a lot recently and avoiding other pride members like the plague.

She was almost having a crisis of conscience. She didn't know what to do and who to believe. Rumors were flying around like a wildfire in the dry grass, though she had done her best to stifle as much as she could. Still, there was no way that she could threaten or persuade every member to keep their mouths shut, so she had taken the next route and had escaped, preferring to commune with the rogues across the border, and sleep by herself in shelters that she could find.

How could her mother have done that to her father? And how could her father have done such an awful thing to her mother? What had happened to her family to pull them apart? Sira wasn't sure who to believe about the entire business. Her father, her favorite person in the world, had been all but run out of the pride lands. She didn't know where he was, and she was not likely to visit her mother any time too soon.

Disgusted by her thoughts, Sira shook her head firmly and set out at a brisk pace to the nearby watering hole to get a drink of water. Perhaps the liquid would help to clear her mind. Moving at a brisk pace, she smiled gratefully at the sight of the water. However, she reared to a halt when she caught sight of an all too familiar figure at the water's edge.

"Father?"

Uumi's maw was to the water, his tongue lapping over the slightly, stale-tasting liquid, when he heard the voice of one of his daughters. He felt his muscles tense and he opened his eyes, stopping what he was doing. He glared at his own reflection, thinking he had very poor luck. He'd been trying to avoid his family, as he'd tried to avoid Syeira before the whole mess had happened, but it seemed he'd have to run into them sooner or later. It sounded and smelt like Sirati, which meant he might not get that much of a hard time if she knew what was going on. For some unknown reason she actually really enjoyed his company; Uumi could never figure that out about some of his cubs.

He let out another long, tired sigh before turning and pushing the closest thing that usually came to a smile onto his face. He seated his lanky, sickly frame and nodded his head to his daughter. "Sirati, I haven't seen you around lately." He tried to just act normal, as if what was going on in his life really wasn't. Maybe he should just leave the lands, let Syeira find someone who would treat her better... someone who actually deserved her, who liked the lands...

The facade Uumi was trying to keep up was slowly fading at his thoughts and instead he began to look rather depressed. "Been traveling or something?"

Of all the people that she could have possibly run into . . .

Sira shook her head ruefully, knowing that it was just her luck. She'd been able to avoid everyone else, so she figured it was about time that she'd run into someone. For the only time in her life, she just wished that it hadn't been her father. She didn't know what to say or what to think now. She didn't hate him, not in the slightest, but she didn't know how to deal with this.

"Hey dad. Yeah . . . I've been traveling around the borders. I just didn't feel like being around the others right now. I'm sure that you understand that."

With a sigh, she paced forward slightly and took up position next to the water's edge. She leaned down and took a long drink, the cool water soothing her throat, though it couldn't soothe her troubled thoughts. When she'd gained her composure, she turned her gaze back to Uumi. Sira gazed intently at his familiar face and found that she couldn't be mad at him. He looked more morose than usual, and she could tell that he was beating himself up on the inside.

Taking a step forward, she nudged him gently with her nose.

"You don't look that great, dad. How are you doing?" she asked gently. She knew that the question was a rather obvious one, but she hoped that she could get him to start speaking. Perhaps that would help.

Uumi could understand the feeling of not wanting to be around others perfectly; it was almost entirely how he lived his life. Of course, there were special circumstances where he allowed himself to somewhat want to be near others, such as his family. Still, that wasn't wanting company so much as feeling obliged. The only lioness he ever willingly looked for to enjoy company was Syeira, and he had screwed that over big time.

He let his gaze move softly toward the sky and he took a deep and calm breath. Leaving it all behind? It didn't seem that bad... but could he live without his mate whom he'd so wronged? He didn't think he could survive. Besides the fact that he was not agreeable, sickly and had no talent for hunting there was also the fact of his slight obsession with his love, his unhealthy need to always have her to himself. To think this whole mess had began when he began to feel threatened, feel as if she was casting him away by spending free time with friends. He'd always figured as much that she did not need him as much as he needed her, but it never changed his thoughts that she should be spending all of her free time with him. And then he'd went and done something so heartbreakingly stupid...

At the light nudge he was a little surprised and his head and gaze drew down with a glare clear on his features. He quickly erased it and composed a more neutral look on his face. "Ah..." He stared at her a full minute wondering how he should answer, wondering if those words confirmed that she did know he was a terrible, scummy lion. Worthless.

"Hmm.... It could always be worse." He said, a breath of a voice that almost did not carry to his daughter. Funny, the times Uumi chose to be optimistic of matters. "I believe... I am just trying to stay sane through it all." He said, wondering why he was even telling this to Sira. He had to tell someone eventually though, didn't he? He had no friends... and he always had a soft spot for the beautiful daughter. Why her, he couldn't say but things were the way they were. "I... I.." He was staring off into the distance and shook his head lightly. "I don't know how to fix things." He whispered to her, truly looking lost.
