Have you heard of the Silver Ribbon Campaign for the Brain? Do you wear a silver ribbon? The Silver Ribbon Campaign for the Brain is a symbolic way to promote public awareness of the need for support of people with brain disorders and disabilities, including those with mental-illness. SilverRibbon.org Always Wear a Silver Ribbon:To show you care about someone with a brain illness To help break down the barriers to treatment and support To help eliminate the stigma against those who suffer To show you believe there is HOPE Through education and research You can buy silver ribbon merchandise, as well as other products made by and on behalf of mentally-ill people here: http://www.narsadartworks.org/I bought almost all my family and friends' holiday presents and cards off that site! The Silver Ribbon campaign includes an effort to get the silver ribbon displayed on a United States Postage Stamp, in order to raise awareness about the message! If you're in the US, check out the SilverRibbon.org web-site for information on how to write the Postmaster General, as well as Senators, Representatives and other Elected Officials to support the Silver Ribbon Stamp! Wouldn't it be cool if you helped choose the next postage stamp? Make it happen! Also, I while ago I made a silver ribbon banner. Feel free to use it, if you like! Just save it to your own image host, please!

Wahoo! I found the pic when I was making another submission! If you're gonna use it, though, I recommend not. I'm a .05 mm lead fan, and I abuse my pencil. So, there isn't a spot on the pic that doesn't have gray. It's gonna be a pain to photoshop, I think. sweatdrop I didn't think I was gonna put it up, really. So... Here it is.LAUGH AND GROW FAT NEVER KNOWS BEST FOR WE ARE MANY

I need to go and buy some silver ribbon and some thread. I'll make one myself, they don't sell them over here.
I'm a diagnosed schizophrenic, but no one seems to take it all that well in my family. Well, my sister's ok. And two of my closest friends are ok with it. Everyone else who may know freak out.
On a side note, I'd wear it for my two closest friends, too. One's a fellow schizophrenic, and one suffers from a form of Porphyria. Mental porphyria, not a skin affecting/physical one. There's quite a few types. D:

Necrophiliac I need to go and buy some silver ribbon and some thread. I'll make one myself, they don't sell them over here. Smart idea! I should do that for some friends and save money! Necrophiliac I'm a diagnosed schizophrenic, but no one seems to take it all that well in my family. Well, my sister's ok. And two of my closest friends are ok with it. Everyone else who may know freak out. Aw, that's too bad. I'm also a diagnosed Schizophrenic and a lot of my family doesn't seem to know how to talk to me anymore! I think they assume I'm mentally retarted too. XP

Yeah, Necrophiliac had the great idea to just go to any store that sells ribbon and buy a length of silver ribbon to affix to yourself with a safety pin. Instant cheap ribbon!

XP Aww. sad If they do assume you're retarded, people really need to be educated about these things. O_o I hate that tone of voice people use towards you when they think you're either crazy or stupid.

M is for M+Ms If they do assume you're retarded, people really need to be educated about these things. O_o I hate that tone of voice people use towards you when they think you're either crazy or stupid. Totally. That's exactly what they do. They talk all slowly and calm about the weather or something stupid like that. Plus, families always talk to n0rmal people about what they're doing in their lives. Well, before I got ill I was really ambitious and working towards a lot of things. Now they're afraid to bring up anything that I was trying for or that I may ever try for again!

Quote: I hate that tone of voice people use towards you when they think you're either crazy or stupid. I can understand that confused . People who don't know me well tend to talk to me like I am a little kid. They use that soft, slow voice. Sometimes I feel like it is condescending, but other times I do not mind. What I really do not like is that puzzled and concerned type of expression people get on their face, somewhat like this: neutral That makes me feel especially stupid. Quote: Well, before I got ill I was really ambitious and working towards a lot of things. Now they're afraid to bring up anything that I was trying for or that I may ever try for again! How do you feel about that? Would you rather talk about it, or does it bother you that they skirt the issue?
