Typhoon awoke from an evening nap and looked around, immediately hooing for the fledgling who had recently been taking off on his own. Not something Ty liked, but an action he couldn't prevent unless he actually saw Snowpeak taking off. As a Minder, he didn't believe in giving fledglings tongue thrashings unless he caught them doing bad things. Afterwards, it went in one ear tuft and out the other.
But this was starting to be more than an irritation. Fledglings couldn't bother too many adults. Snowpeak could get hurt out on his own though, or at the worst, fall through the branches to the ground. Ty was starting to worry that maybe this fledgling was too much for him to handle. Hopefully Snowpeak's attitude would turn around and he would become slightly easier to keep an eye on.
"Snowpeak?" Ty hooted again, watching his companion uncurl from the leafy branch Dune had been sleeping under. Dune gave a tiny squeak of greeting. He and his companion had been around each other long enough that Dune didn't feel the need to speak much to his Sentinel. They understood each other fairly well by now.
Dune stretched out his tiny body, moving a little further out onto the branch, bright black eyes glancing around for the small white body that belonged to Ty's charge.

Out of nowhere, the mist fledgling in question seemed to hop into view instantly. The white shape jumped over the companion and approached the ghost minder with curt clumsy flaps.
“Typhoon! You’re awake. Finally! You’re not minding babies today? Will you give me some flying lessons? Will you? I caught a wasp just now! Will you teach me how to hunt, too?”
He had a small cut on his right wing that he didn’t even seem to notice and (if he were to stop and think about it) a rather empty stomach as well. He was careful to avoid most of the minders at the enclave as he didn’t like them that much (it was painfully obvious that the feeling was mutual) and that meant he had to work a little harder than most to look for the few minders he tolerated when he wanted a meal. As the sole representative of a completely different category that didn’t involve the minders Snowpeak couldn’t stand and the few he didn’t exactly run away from as soon as he was called, was Typhoon. The old ghost had somehow managed to captivate the mist fledgling and the seemingly endless patience of the minder always brought the eager fledgling back to his side.

Typhoon hooted at the quick burst of questions and whirled, eyes narrowing. Ah, it was Snowpeak. Not a suprise.
"There you are! Where have you been?" Ty asked, a hint of irritation in his voice but mostly concern. He shifted his claws along the branch he was on until he reached the little mist fledgling and began to preen him carefully, checking for anything he may have picked up on his wanderings.
"No, I'm not minding anyone but you today, troublemaker." He seemed to make the nickname for Snowpeak loving, and after a bit of preening he noticed the cut on his wing. The Ghost Minder nudged at it with his beak, inspecting it with a dark golden eye.
"I'll give you some flying lessons, and we'll get you something to eat too. I saw a family of mice not too far from here last night, I'm sure they're still hanging around." Typhoon gave the fledgling's eartufts a final preening swipe, and preened his own primaries into decent shape.

Snowpeak knows exactly what he’s been doing and he’d rather not discuss it right after making a request so he attempts to make the most innocent expression to dodge the minders question as he bobs his head gently at the loving insult. The expression doesn’t linger though as the minder’s plans for a hunting trip worry him that he’ll have to wait a little longer for his lessons.
“I’m not hungry.” He says it all too quickly and it’s true in a way. He was hungry just a little while ago but the excitement of Typhoon’s call has completely taken over his body and left no room to any other emotions and sensations. The mist fledgling twitches a little with some discomfort as his eartufts are preened.
“Lessons, Typhoon. Lessons.” He asks a little more quietly, taking a short step away from the minder.

Typhoon gave the fledgling a hard eye, and then replied.
"Okay, if you insist. But food later. What sort of lessons would you like now?" Ty asked, leaning his head to the side slightly as he asks the fledgling. He would make sure the little one ate, sooner or later.
"Well, since you have to know how to fly to learn how to hunt, I suppose that should come first. Don't you think, Snowpeak?" The Ghost Minder preened the fledgling's primaries, wanting to make sure he didn't end up failing for his feathers not being situated.

The fledgling’s head dropped a little under the stern gaze but he had an uncontrollable grin as his head bobbed in silence.
Flying! No, hunting! Hunting! No, flying! I still suck. Flying! But… Flying AND Hunting!
Trembling with eager anticipation, he barely noticed the minder’s quick preening but he still pulled his wing back just a tiny bit at the touch. His thoughts were so loud in his head that the small mist hardly noticed Typhoon’s last words.
“Uh… Yes…?” He wasn’t sure of what he was agreeing with but he sure hoped it would bring him closer to a lesson.

Typhoon chuckled, knowing the fledgling was making a tough decision. Snowpeak was so eager, he'd definitely grow up into a combatant task.
Dune scrambled over the branch, curling up at Ty's claws. He didn't trust that fledgling, no, no...he'd noticed Snowpeak a few too many times looking at him with a glint in his eyes that said "food."
"We'll practice flying a bit, and then I'll go snatch something from the distribution platform and we'll see if you can land on it." Typhoon took a side step away from Dune, did a quick preen of his primaries, and glanced over to Snowpeak.
"Follow me." Typhoon did his best to jump from the branch in slow motion, lifting his feathers out and open and making a deep flap into the air, settling onto the nearest branch, his claws digging into the bark. He looked back at Snowpeak expectantly. Setting off and landing were the most important parts of flying, the rest could be learned eventually.

The small companion’s movements did not go unnoticed to the Mist but Snowpeak was so thrilled by the prospect of a lesson that he hardly paid attention to the flickering whiskers and enticing tail. Still, he always felt slightly bitter when the adults showed their abilities. They made it look so easy. It was something so basic to them, so simple… So why couldn’t he do it?
He tried his best to copy his minder in every possible way. With a quick but meticulous preen of his feathers, he readied himself for his first attempt. He had been practicing with the other fledglings for a while now but the mist had to admit he always seemed make the most visible progress after Typhoon’s lessons. He was eager to show his minder how much he had practiced.
Leaning on the branch, he did his best to hold his wings in the exact same way as the minder and his talons pushed the bark with ease. Snowpeak didn’t manage to reach the branch with only flap but he was happy to see the bark getting closer as his wings flapped clumsily in the air for three times before he managed to touch the bark, thoughts racing inside his head in a barely understandable jumble.
Look Typhoon! I’m flying! I’m flying just like you! See? See?! I can do it! I’m gonna grab the branch! I’m landing right next to you. I’m doing it! Isn't this… too fast?
It was. While he did manage to “land” next to the minder, his weight pushed forward and the fledgling’s white moving shape rotated around the branch, talons scrapping around it but unwilling to release the newfound safety of the bark until Snowpeak found himself dangling upside down on the branch, utterly amazed at how his world had suddenly turned upside down.
“Ah.” He said with a soft almost surprised tone. Mus droppings!, his mind echoed.

Typhoon squawked, surprised at the awkward sound coming out of his beak.
Dune sat off to the side, a smile sneaking around his whiskers. Silly fledgling. He wasn't worried about Snowpeak, he trusted Ty. Ty was a good Minder, and this happened pretty often in the world of fledglings.
Ty hopped to a nearby branch underneath, holding his wings out just enough to slow himself as he drifted down.
"Let go, Snowpeak, I'll help catch you." The Ghost Minder said calmly, though in his mind he was quite nervous. He didn't use his will often, but his accuracy was better than his strength of will.

Snowpeak looked around with clear embarrassment crossing his fiery gaze. Sure, at least there wasn’t anyone watching him… it was just Typhoon and the mus… wait, was that tiny thing laughing at him…?
The minder’s request was even harder to take in than small companion’s expression. Not used to relying on others and certainly not one to blindly trust anyone around him, the small mist eyed the branch below with apprehension, avoiding the old minder’s eyes. If only he were to let go and flap at the same time, maybe he could do it even without Ty’s help.
Worried that the silent wait would make him look like a coward, Snowpeak was quick to hide his concerns and released the branch abruptly, flapping madly as he tried to drop next to Typhoon.

Typhoon sighed, watching Snowpeak try to land by himself. Always so self-sufficient, this one. Not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes you had to depend on others to get things done. He waited to see what would happen, ready to try to catch Snowpeak with his will if it was necessary.
Dune squeaked loudly at the falling ball of feathers and climbed up the tree, onto the branch above where Snowpeak was falling. No sense in being below Snowpeak and getting hit.

Snowpeak didn’t exactly fail the landing… while the fledgling did manage to drop at his intended target, he might’ve been expecting a certain degree of (perhaps unwanted) interference to smoothen his fall. He dropped a little heavier than usual and without the time to properly prepare for it, one of his talons hit the branch in a rather awkward bent position.
The fledgling cringed as he stood up on the branch with a half pained-half smug expression, eyeing the minder for the verdict. So… how bad had it been?
Even if the small Mist seemed to be waiting expectantly for the lesson to resume, he looked rather tense and kept his weight mostly on his good talon, glancing almost imperceptibly towards the safety of the minder’s platforms.

Typhoon nodded, a small compliment to the pale fledgling. He knew Snowpeak wouldn't appreciate anything more than that. It hadn't been too terrible. At least his little Mist hadn't fallen. Though that talon might need some rest. Probably didn't need a Medic.
"Let's continue tomorrow night, Snowpeak, I'm feeling a bit hungry. What about you, Dune?" Ty called up to the dusty colored mus. Dune squeaked, scampering between branches back over to the platforms, recalling a particularly plump berry he'd wedged in the split of a branch. Yum!
Ty stretched a wing out, motioning for Snowpeak to follow his companion, and the Ghost Minder would follow after, just in case Snowpeak's talon gave out underneath him. He preened his primary feathers into position for the short flight back to the platforms.

Snowpeak did appreciate that (unlike some) Typhoon wasn’t prone to voicing undeserved praise. He was obviously furious that the lesson was ending so quickly but since he could only blame himself, he bottled up every bit of anger and… well, if Ty said it first, he didn’t mind admitting that he was feeling a bit hungry himself.
Snowpeak complied, lifting off with a clumsy flap of his wings, cringing a little every time his talons dropped on a branch. He tried to concentrate on something different, like the mus he was following, in order to take his mind off the pain. Immediately, he was surprised at how well that idea worked.
There was a funny feeling inside him. Something strange but familiar growing from the depths of his core. The pain was somehow forgotten and as he landed on the platforms, the fledgling was barely aware of his surroundings… but somehow, the little moving shape was stealing all his attention. He made a motion to follow it but stopped himself in time. She would notice him. He couldn’t let that happen! The fledgling’s sleeked a little but a small smile curved the edges of his beak. As the feeling grew inside him, he realized he’d never had this much fun in all his life.
