The weather had changed and a shower had started in that cold, bitter way that said that the warm season of summer had long since past and fall was here. Rosemary had wished she had come earlier so that she could have missed the colder weather, but looked at the silver lining instead. At least it was not snowing. Being a shadow, she always was terribly cold when she felt a n** in the air.

As the rain started to the point just close to it’s hardest, she finally found a opening in the trees that seemed promising for shelter. Tired and wet, she turned herself and flew elegantly to the branch, scooping it in her talons and landing softly with a small sprinkling of water droplets as she landed. Her companion Basil followed after, settling alongside her. She shook as much water as she could free from her detailed butterfly plumage and settled, and took note of her surroundings in time to notice two others. Despite being a stranger, she felt happier to have company, even if the shower might not last long. Talking helped past the time and she always felt up for some chattering. Conversation warmed the insides, or so she liked to think.

“Certainly some weather we are having.” She said, more cheerful than how she felt, though always urging herself to be happier in light of things, a true optimistic. Her one wing went to bring her parus closer to her.

Liam sighed rather angrily. Being caught in the rain away from home was never fun. He'd been in this neck of the woods seeking the opinion of a sympathetic Keeper- his Skurri had developed a runny nose and a cough, and his eyes weren't as bright as they normally were. Roth was essential to his work; he needed the little guy, and couldn't have him ill. Plus, it pained him to see his little friend in pain. He genuinely liked his companion, and he knew his mate did, too. The Keeper said that the Skurri would live, and would be fine with a little rest and some herbs, which could be acquired from any Medic. Liam had been flying home with Roth hanging tightly to his feathers when the rain started. Worried that the weather might make his ill companion sicker, Liam dove for shelter immediately. Settling down on a branch, he began to wait out the storm when two others landed nearby. Both heavily-dyed Shadow females. Liam nodded amicably at them as Roth scrambled down his back and nestled between his legs, like an egg being incubated. But when one of the females spoke, the one dyed like a butterfly, and Liam found himself answering her cheerful tone. "Indeed! I wasn't expecting a shower today; were either of you ladies?"

Clover looked up from where she was chatting with Liam when a third sentinel fluttered down to join them. she blinked at the newcomer, then broke into a smile when she spotted the lovely colors on the parus that settled in to join her. Her own companion, Sharp, peeked out from her matching plumage to twitter a gentle hello to the red-inked pair.

"It is at that. No snow yet though." For all her colorful dye, Clover was truly a mist under it all. The first snow of the season always excited her. "I'm Cloverfield, by the way, and this is my Sharp." She nodded at her parus, who tittered happily at being included.

She gave a inward sigh of relief to have two friendly and social Sentinels. She hated having to lead a conversation herself and also disliked trying to get others to speak. She felt a lot more Sentinels could do some good with talking more and getting to know one another, but a lot of them kept hushed and even went so far as to try and ignore other Sentinels. It was all very rude.

Glad, she nodded to them both. “Yes, no snow is certainly a good thing. I’m certainly not the best type for it.” She said, extending a wind to show the underside of her wing and the black plumage that showed that she was a Shadow and not built for the colder weather. Bringing her wing back, she looked to the other Sentinel. “I didn’t expect it. I had hoped it would have been nice today. Traveling really goes to a halt in this weather, and I hope to get most of mine done by winter.” She confessed, before regarding the more colorful Sentinel by the name of Clover. Such a lovely name!

“Oh, that’s a lovely name. My name is Rosemary, and this is dear little Basil.” She said, opening her wing in time for the Parus to hop out and starting to move towards Sharp. The little parus might have been cold, but he was just as excited to talk with others than Rosemary was. The little parus chirped to the other, with a small ‘Ie’ instead of ‘hi’.

“What brought you all out before the weather turned for the worse?” She asked, curious.

"I was out asking about Skurri care- mine's developed a cold, and I wanted to know what to do. Seems he's only gonna get colder, wotwot? I'm Liam the minder, by the way. Nice to meet you, Rosemary. You too, Basil. Sorry for Roth's antisocialistic tendencies tonight; he's under the weather. Quite literally." Liam chuckled a bit at his pun. "I do hope it lets up soon; I've got a nest of eggs that could use a warm body in this weather. There's nothing like a Sentinel body for insulation, though feathers and fur tend to work wonders."

The weather was taking a dreadful turn to the worst, in this bard's opinion, anyhow. Rain was lovely and he enjoyed the off rainy night, but the wind had a n** to it and he was thankful for whichever parent had been a mist, as he had some added protection against the cold.

But the wind made his accessories, most of which were metal, much colder and he wished he had left his bells and rings behind on this particular night. They weren't exactly vital things as he did not plan on performing, in the first place.

His amber eyes caught something in the gloom... It looked like feather dye. Bright red and some orange? Why not add a splash of blue and green to the mix? He bee-lined right towards that particular stand of trees and the shelter that they offered. Hopefully this lot would not mind the company of an aberrant.

"What a chill..." He hooted as he perched near the three other sentinels. Crow was nestled and clinging tightly to the feathers between his wings. Now she released her hold and settled on his talons. Feather happened to not be here, this night. He was slightly pleased by this, as it would be a little more quiet than usual, but he hoped the companion had taken up shelter in his territory.

Colver chuckled and held hr own wing out for Rosemary to inspect. "I meant that I was sad that we've had no snow. Under all this black dye I'm really a mist." She laughed again. It amused her that a simple change of color and type of plumage could make Sentinels react so differently to weather. "Well should you be in the area come snowfall I'd be glad to offer my territory as a restover. That is, if you don't mind it being jammed full of Parus, all trying to be louder than the one beside it."

Sharp bobbed in agreement. An older Parus, he had long since passed his competitive days, though Clover maintained that he was still one of the best singers she had. "'Lo, 'lo." He chirped back to Basil, tone gentle and soft. Truth be told Sharp had never been that god at talking. He understood everything though, and really had never needed words to be understood.

Clover paused, listening to Liam. It was a shame about Roth, she knew from Hazel how dear the creature was to them both. "You could always sit on him. like an egg until you got back. That is, if he'd let you." Roth's independent attitude was also well known.

She looked around as a fourth joined them. What a night indeed, so many fellows about, and so many colors! "Hello there! Seems the storm's driving all sorts down to perch tonight! I'm Cloverfield!"

“Oh, the poor dear.” Rosemary said, finding it downright awful that a companion was sick. “Makes me wish I was a Keeper or Medic at times instead of an Artisan. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if Basil here got sick. I hope he gets better. Terrible weather to be caught in. I hope it clears up soon, not only for all of us, but for you little friend and especially those eggs of yours.” She smiled at the thought. It had been a long time since she last hatched an egg, and it brought back the task at hand.

It was just then that a newcomer came, and introductions derailed her train of thought. “Certainly is.” She said to the other, smiling sweetly as she looked about. She liked the vibrant dye jobs, always admiring other’s works. She wondered when she’d met someone who was dyed by her pupil, Sequoia. She’d have to ask at some point.

As Basil moved closer to the other Parus, entertaining himself, she looked back up at the newcomer once more. “Hello, my name is Rosemary.” She said, deciding to follow Clover’s example, before turning back to Clover.

“If it wouldn’t be a bother, I would gladly come for a visit. I’m only resting at my old pupil’s home, though I feel like such a hindrance. I do not come to the Deep Woods too often. It has felt like ages since I last came here, and with my poor memory, I find myself flying in circles to find where I am going. It’s really making things difficult for me right now.” She started to preen a moment and then looked back up.

“Would any of you know the direction of the Swift Open River near the boundaries of the Deep Woods? I’m trying to find someone, and I lost the River some time ago.”

"Thanks for your concern; I don't know what I'd do without the little fellow myself! But the Keeper I got him from was certainly helpful enough. And... hm. The river from here... Not too sure, honestly; I rarely leave the Enclave, and I'm a bit turned around myself." Liam looked towards the newcomer, a smallish Abberant he was certain he'd seen someplace before. "Name's Liam, friend," he said, introducing himself. "How're you holding up in the cold?"

"Well enough. Fortunately, one of my parents was a Mist." Fjord chuckled lightly and flaunted the fact taht he was an aberrant. Not that he particularly enjoyed the negative stigmatism that went along with it. He abhorred that... But still, one must always be able to laugh at themselves first. How else could he survive as a bard?

The small aberrant turned his orange eyes from Cloverfield, to Liam, to Rosemary. Indeed, it seemed he was in pleasant company, which only lightened his own spirits.

"Ah, Cloverfield and Rosemary. Beautiful names." He hooted lightly, then to Liam. "Liam, sir, is a pleasure. Fjord is my name, bard of the Crownleaf Theater."

Clover beamed at the praise from Fjord. "It's good to see you're handling the weather well." In all honesty she didn't take offense at aberrants. Some she was concerned for, those that did not fair well for the mix. But here was one who could openly claim benefit from having mixed blood. If his parents hadn't been half-mist, he would by much colder now, she suspected.

"The river?" She tilted her head, thinking a bit. I think I know where it is...actually, yes. I was on my way to visit a friend who lives alongside it, actually. Once this mess clears up I would be happy to show you the way, seeing as it's in the direction I'm heading."

((Ohman Sly would FLIP if Clover showed up with his mum.))

Rosemary beamed at the group. “The Theater. Oh, I think I know where that is. My mate was a bard. Mind you, this was before they had the Theater up, but they use to sing in that area before. It’s a very lovely place, but I’ve only been there once to see a performance. It’s an awful long flight from there to were I live.” She said, but smiled at Fjord. “It warms me to see bards. I think it means we’re dong so much better for ourselves when we don’t have too many watchers and rangers to be able to enjoy song.” She said this with an air of a older Sentinel who could reflect more on life now that time was slowing down for her.

Turning, she was just as thrilled with Clover’s words. “Oh, could you show me where? I’m trying to find my son’s territory, and I know he lives there. His name is RainbowChaser.”

Had Liam been eating, he would have choked and fallen right off the branch. Instead, a spluttering cough escaped his beak. This brightly painted female was that stuck-up, over-inflated bigot's mother? There was nothing in common between this sweet lady and that sour snakebelly! A wicked thought crossed Liam's mind as her righted himself. "Ug, I think a moth went down wrong. Excuse me. It's nice to know your name, Fjord; I believe I've seen you performing at the Crownleaf. Very wonderful theatre, and such excellent talent! And Rosemary! I know your son- knew him growing up, you might say. He's fairly well-known in this area. You shouldn't have any trouble finding him- he's very proud of his name, most of us have heard it." He could practically feel his eartufts curling deviously. He rarely ever lied, but that Shadow had left a nasty taste in his beak the last time they'd met, and at any rate, it was a harmless prank. "I'm sure he'd be thrilled to see you!" Liam knew that he'd appreciate a visit from his own mother, and RainbowChaser had been having paternal stirrings lately; who better than his own mother to help him raise his adopted fledgling?

Fjord's eartufts stood on end and his gaze snapped instantly from Liam, who seemed startled as well, to Rosemary. This beautiful and seemingly warmhearted sentinel... She laid the egg that hatched that, that, that thing?

Fortunately he was rather good at masking his own opinions, due to his frequent acting as a bard. His eartufts dropped into an eased position and his familiar smile tugged at his beak edges. This would certainly prove to be interesting.

"Oh! Rainbowchaser, I believe I know him, as well. Met him at the Enclave and spent a good bit of time with him. I'm afraid I don't know the exact location of his territory... But I could possibly help you find it, I know it vaguely, if you and Miss Cloverfield don't mind the added company?"

Clover paused at the name. Was that...could she mean...Sly had a new neighbor? Well that was lovely! Maybe he'd warm up a bit. "I'm afraid I don't know him...oh Fjord, if you do then I won't worry. We can all go together then, at least until the river. My friend lives fairly nearby, and from the sound of it your Rainbow chaser might be fairly close."

She sat back, contented with the plan, and preened herself. "So how is the enclave, Liam? I heard Hazel was back in town. Any eggs in the nests?" She smiled at the double meaning of the question. "You seem to be very busy, I don't know how you manage it."
