A bright orange flash lit the dense foliage near to the river. Blood smearing in with the stripes on his fur, he paced through the brush. The stripes mounted on his legs acted as warning signs, and the bright fur made everyone around aware of his presence. He dragged a carcass of a young fawn behind him, its head banging on the rocky ground, stomach ripped open.

He laid down..the river blocked his scent and the shadows blocked his vision. He could not see Lethe. He laid down and chomped into the carcass, the scent of blood flaying into the air.

The male Helix leapt to his feet with a roar that sounded a bit like a lion's. He revealed every narrow tooth in his maw and his tail stuck straight up, his ears flat to his head. He whipped his head wildly and then settled on her, growling viciously. He stood over the carcass, fur bristled. Drool sagged on his lips, then dripped to the floor of the field. He snarled once again, taking a threatening step towards her.

Efreet was not in a good mood. Then again, he was never in a good mood. He had a heart of steel and eyes of stone. His face was either hard and cool or feral and aggressive. He was the latter now. He said nothing, but took another step toward her.

He snarled again and did a feint charge. He only went a few feet, but barked until she stepped into the light. When she did, he paused and tensed. He growled cool, brisk and possibly hurtful words. "What is wrong with your body? Your ears...they look tattered by a grizzly. And why can i not see myself in your eyes?" he asked, tongue lolling as he held his stance...but that tongue proved his curiosity.

"They are the silliest ears I have ever seen!" he snarled, fur bristling once more. "No Helix child with ears like that would be allowed to have me for a father!" he barked. "I'd drown the little brute. And your eyes are a thing of evil! Off with you!" he charged again, barking. "Back to the underworld!"

Efreet had lost what little patience he had. "Yes! Your ears look like the wings of a dead bird! They look like a tree after the storm! They are too long and wrinkled! No self-respecting parent would want you!" he shouted He then leapt and went for her ear with his maw.

Efreet yowled and broke away as she made contact. He tore a bit of flesh and shuddered, ears flat, snarling. He was a fighter...but she did not even seem affected by his bite. "You...you are no helix." he said. "You are a demon. A monster!" he bristled...he hated things not normal even more then he hated thing of normality. He barked at her and growled."And if there are more of you...i must finish you now!"

He snarled and eyeballed the river. "Not even the devil can breath underwater." he said. "And you are no god." He charged her, trying to leap onto her back or else use his shoulder to knock her over. His vicious war barks filled the air as he gouged into...something! He didn't know in her mass of black fur WHAT he had grabbed.
