oh so Extravagant...
Raven Digitalis
Has anyone else read this?
The book is a melding of Goth culture and Wicca/Pagan arts. It's very informative on both fronts and is extremely well-written.
Description from his site:
Raven Digitalis explores the dynamic intersection of dark culture and occultism in Goth Craft. The book introduces many kinds of Goths and Witches, and the philosophy of each. It covers the basics of magick and beyond, with special attention to blood magick, death magick, and necromancy. You’ll also learn how to proactively channel dark emotions, and express spirituality through clothing, hair, makeup and body modification. Also covered is vampyrism, BDSM, gender/sexuality issues, and the magickal-spiritual use of drugs. From working shadow magick to spellcasting on the dance floor, Goth Craft revels in the exciting convergence of two vital lifestyles. ___________________________________________________________
I highly recommend the book for anyone who is into both cultures.

Nah, not new, been around for years.
I had a flick through it when I got it out from the library but it's pretty thin on the religion side and I swear he doesn't know what goth is. He goes on and on about fashion, as if that's what goth is really about rolleyes
You're way better off developing your own religious path from other books that are better developed. Digitalis's book doesn't come up to par either on the witch side of things or the goth side of things....it ends up more a disappointment than anything else. You start out thinking "Finally! the answer to all my prayers!" and you get let down.
It's more difficult to form your own way, but books like this never deliver, so in the long run it's a whole lot more rewarding.
Konstantinos has more substance but I don't recommend him either.... he's a soft polytheist, disrespectful to the gods and confuses witchcraft with Wicca. I ended up arguing with his book aloud and threw it across the room wink But better than this book, imo.

oh so Extravagant... :/ I happen to adore Raven Digitalis. I think what you're saying is more personal opinion.

i got this book for my birthday last year, and i absolutely love it! only about half of it was really useful to me since i figured out i am NOT wiccan shortly before getting it, but the section on types of goths i found VERY helpful. i'm a perky goth that dresses casual. and we've labeled a friend of mine as giggly goth.

ρℓαgυε яαтs αη∂ вℓσσ∂ч cяυмρεтs...I love the makeup section personally. I often use dots when I do my eye makeup and I (generally) carefully imbue them with different meanings and purposes Status >in want of arts

fahion and makeup =/= goth buuuut some of us given our particular personality bent do rather enjoy these things. Myself in particular! I browsed through it at the book store and I would like to read this myself, if more for that reason, and to see what he says about the two communities colliding. I've had more than my share of witches, magicians, and pagans, and what have you thinking I'm just a silly goth who wants to dabble in the "Dark arts." When I first saw this book I thought it was the most ridiculous thing based on the title, but when I heard more about it, I was kind of glad, if nothing else, that there are others like me out there.

demisara What distinguishes goth craft from plain old craft? ρℓαgυε яαтs αη∂ вℓσσ∂ч cяυмρεтs... It's just a blend of goth culture and the craft, mixing the two together; lifestyle and religion really :3

Sanguina Cruenta I had a flick through it when I got it out from the library but it's pretty thin on the religion side and I swear he doesn't know what goth is. He goes on and on about fashion, as if that's what goth is really about rolleyes Considering that goth developed a more concrete ideology well after it's initial debut through music and fashion.... initially, that *was* what goth was really about: a set of aesthetics, fashion, musical taste, and outward appearance that idealized and embraced the macabre.
Anytime someone starts talking about "embracing the shadow," I look back on my kindergoth days and realize there's a little bit of that in many other subcultures as well, so it's not something exclusive to goth. Quote: Konstantinos has more substance but I don't recommend him either.... he's a soft polytheist, disrespectful to the gods and confuses witchcraft with Wicca. Konstantinos' confusion of witchcraft and Wicca really didn't strike me as any more or less offensive than virtually any other author out there. However, disrespect to gods is subjective to how much respect you gave them in the first place.
Gods are tools, imo, used for your intent. I'm a pop-culture magick fan, meself. My only real complaint with his books is how campy they get.
Oooooh... Dark Forces!! *dracula impersonation* "Bleh, bleh! I vant to suck your blood!" lol

I briefly picked this book up in Waterstone's(Book shop), and after skimming the back put it back down with disinterest. However, after reading this, I may have to give it a second chance and see if they have it in the library(Which I doubt D; ). If not, I'll buy it with my next paycheque. :p
