The waters edge had offered the lionness a cool drink to take away the parched feeling that had been developing in her throat. She lowered her head, lapping at the water with her long pink tongue.
Her emerald orbs kept their eyes focused up. Nyxie had no interest in becoming lunch to anyone today, nor did she have any want to be injured. Her long tail flicked behind her, swiping at the flies that buzzed here and there.
Lifting up her great head, water rushed down Nyxie's chocolate colored chin. Her bottom jaw became soaked, and further on as the water continued to dribble down to her chest and the earth.
She stood, walking over to her shady spot under a tree she had taken a particular fondness in. Her cubs, were over to the side, and she tried to keep her eyes on them; but she was having a hard time motivating herself to do so. They were cubs. Her cubs. But she had not wanted them, and she was still unsure of whether or not she wanted them now.
She yawned, her tongue curling out, and with a loud rumble, her mouth closed.
The male cub was busy pawing at the earth, digging a bit with an extended claw. He knew the difference between his family and others. It wasnt hard to see that his mother really wasn't the best mother figure.
He had expected that, grown with that. He was not really to the point of caring anymore. His sky blue eyes betraying his mothers own green ones. He had the eyes of his father.. He had the blonde locks of his father.. He even carried the stripes that his father bore. Now Adonis had never met his father, nor did he really know that he wanted to.. But his mother had been such a wreck when he had left her. But now, she was doing better, though her flirting with other males hadnt stopped.
Adonis gave his own yawn, wishing the day could be just a little more interesting.

The scene was like most any other scene that played out in the Pride Lands. The waterside was dotted sparsely with animals parching their thirst, from the lioness and her cubs to a small family of lemurs. Not too far away, a crane of unusual coloring - white save for his bright red legs and bill and his black wings - stepped with great care through the shallows, tilting its head from side to side as it scanned the surface for a fish lying in wait. It seemed to have spotted something when it froze in place, one leg raised in an prolonged pause. It tilted its head back slightly, preparing to snatch the wriggling creature so that perhaps it could have lunch, when it was suddenly interrupted.
The lemurs startled and scurried down the bank at the sudden splash. There was a flurry of motion beneath the wall of water that seemed to have come from nowhere. The crane flapped away from the scene, looking offended as it landed on land - just around the time when the creature who had caused the commotion became clear, when the water settled to reveal the lion standing water. He was not as thick or stout as many of the other lions of the area, but it only served to make him look refined, even as he stood ankle-deep in murky water, a fish squirming within his jaws. He was lean, but certainly not skinny: a muscular creature with a build that was almost akin to that of a hunting lioness, not a lazing lion. He climbed onto the bank a few feet away from Dyxie and her cubs, shaking water from the tips of his dark red mane. The crane came closer to him, and seemed to be intent on stealing its prize back before the male gulped it down, bones and head and all. The crane narrowed its eyes.
"You disgust me," it scowled, flaring its wings angrily.
"You're lucky I didn't eat you, birdbrain." The male's tone held a laugh in it. He licked his maw before letting the corners of his mouth turn up into a grin.

Nyxie had never been one to miss an attractive male's presence. She perked her head, her ears also perking when she saw the red maned male. Her cubs still not out of the first few months of life, and already she was looking for someone to fill her lonely heart.
Her emerald orbs glistened as the sun made them sparkle. She was an attractive lioness, and had never wanted for male attention. She never had to want, she always got. She smiled, her eyes drifting to her young son. She wondered if maybe she should stay with Adonis, but truth be told she was rather bored. She only wished her older brother Cairo was about.. He could watch the little ball of fluff while she did some flirting.
But as of now, Cairo was traveling, and who the hell knew when he'd get the idea of returning home.
"Adonis, boy follow me." She said, voice ringing like a little twenty year old blondes voice.
She stood, her muscles rippling. She was a lean lioness, nothing but muscle, though she was beginning to get rather skinny at lack of hunting. She had been so busy with the damned cubs!
"Hello!" SHe called to the male, a few feet down the riverbed.

The blonde male, blinked at his mother, but followed obediantly. He hated to disobey, even if mother was a bit of a harlot. He enjoyed her warmth at night, and he enjoyed her company. He knew it could be worse..He knew he could possibly have had a worse life..with a mother who disliked him. He felt lucky to have more Zahina blood in his veins, and the look of the Zahina lion. He'd be damned if he would be ugly enough to be a Da'lin.
His lip curled a bit. He hated the Da'lin. He felt they had hurt his mother.. Leaving her with the burden of cubs. One of them being one of the demons! How RUDE.
His blue eyes gazed at the male, but his attention was instantly pulled to the crane.

Caelan had his paw half in the air in mid-strike position, claws retracted as he went to swat at the Sir Gawain - and that was the position in remained in for a moment or two when he heard the voice of another. It wasn't until he turned his head and swiveled his ears towards Nyxie that he put his paw down. The crane looked irritated, but the brief expression seemed to roll off of him the way water beaded and rolled off of his feathers. With a click of his beak, he returned to wading in the water, not quite noticing the curious gaze of the cub that was eyeing him.
Caelan, too, rarely ever wanted for any female attention. True, he was generally the one who had throw the line out, but the lionesses he was fishing for almost always took the bait. Yet, this female was...interesting. She certainly wasn't the most beautiful lioness he'd ever laid eyes on, no, but there was something intriguing about her that he couldn't quite put his paw on. His curiosity peaked - and never one to turn down the chance to flirt with a feline of the fairer sex - he turned around to face her.
"Hello t'you, too," he responded. His accent was not from those parts, and sounded almost foreign - certainly something the female or her cub had never heard before. His tone was coarse, yet melodic, lilting the last vowel of his sentence in a sing-song manner. Perhaps the afternoon had promise, yet.

His accent made her ear twitch, while she listened to him speak. He sounded so different.. and she almost wondered where he came from. Almost. That would mean she was interested in someone other than herself.
The affair with that blasted Da'lin had left her with other things to care for..and she had begun to realize they took more work than she did. And that was saying something.
The muscled body of the female made her own appearance look lean, though she definately had muscles that were visible. They rippled when she moved, flowing with her pelt.
"I haven't seen you around before.." She said, looking at him curiously. "Are you new in town?"

Adonis groaned as the bird flew away, but when he landed in the waters, a smile formed. He stalked closer to the waters banks, his paws sinking in the thick mud. He lowered his body, his eyes carrying the look of a hunting cat. He wasnt sure how hard it would be to attempt to hunt in the water.
But if mother was making MORE friends, then he was going to do something fun. A little chuckle rose in his throat, and then he discovered he was swimming, and still wasnt too close to the bird.
A growl of dissappointment caught his throat.

One couldn't exactly say that Caelan had years of experience, no, but he certainly knew quite a lot about body language, especially when it applied to the ladies. He watched the confident way she walked, putting one paw infront of the other as though the land beneath every step belongs to her. She was a cocky one - of this, he was certain. It only served to make him smile. This one would be interesting.
With steps as confident as hers, he walked out of the water to meet her at the bank. His head high, he came towards her, then moved to the side to walk around her, taking in her picture and her scent, keeping only a somewhat respectable distance. "You could say that, yeah, I guess," he said once he had come full circle. "And you? This your pride's territory?" He had noticed the cub, and only assumed that it was hers and that she was wandering away from the remainder of her pride. It seemed logical enough for him to make the assumption, after all.
Sir Gawain was attempting to find another fish that would replace the meal his feline partner had so happily stole from right beneath his talons. It therefore went without saying that he noticed when the fish hastened away, startled by something in the water. He glanced up, briefly irritated before his sharp eyes fell on the cub trying its best to stalk him. His head tilted to the side, his clicked his beak in disapproval, but smiled inwardly. My, but this little creature reminded him of a much smaller Caelan! He straightened himself, taking a step closer to the paddling cub.
"Aren't you a funny looking fish," he chuckled.

Nyxie smiled, her eyes bemused at the male. She always held seduction in her eyes.. Except when she was unamused at a situation. She was a jealous creature, always claiming a male as her own..even if she did not stay.
But this one, she wanted to make her own. His gorgeous red mane, and glittering golden body. She looked him up, then down, and her eyes followed the ripples of his muscles as he circled her.
"Pride? Bah. I have no pride. I have a cub, and nothing else going for me." She said with a look of irritation at her cub. She actually had three, but she would never claim to have given birth to a Da'lin..Even if she had once been so devilishly attracted to teh evil species.
"The name is Nyxie stranger," She said, running her tail under his chin, tickling him with her tail fluff.
Adonis swam as hard as he could before he saw the bird approaching, and quickly he changed course. Turning his body, he paddled quickly, trying to get to a foothold. Finally able to touch the earth, yet still be in the water, heturned to watch the crane.
"Im not a fish!" He said exuberantly, his eyes sparkling. How awesome would it be to be a fish?
"Im a LION." Then he blushed slightly, snorting a bit.
"Or I will be..and my name is Adonis."

Caelan was not one to feel many emotions other than happiness or anger. Still, when Nyxie pointed out her cub and he glanced over to Adonis - who seemed to be having a conversation with Sir Gawain, which Caelan was certain was good - he couldn't help the brief pang of concern that nestled in the pit of his chest cavity. Raising a cub was no easy matter, especially for such a young mother all alone. Of course, this wasn't his problem...but he still couldn't shake the dull ache of concern.
He smirked again when she caressed his chin with her tail, the tips of his canines showing this time. "Call me Caelan. Everyone else does." He nodded his head towards the sopping cub a few feet away. "And the little one? What's his name?"
"Adonis, eh?" Sir Gawain tilted his head a bit, then walked closer to the little cub. There goes Mr. Stork taking care of another baby, Caelan would undoubtedly say to him later, and Sir Gawain would patiently remind the male that had it not been for "Mr. Stork", the lost, mewling little cub of two years prior would have never made it to be the proud adult he was today.
"I think it's a good name. Good strong name for a good strong lion. Don't you think?"

She had not been looking for sympathy, but when she saw the look in his eyes, she almost smiled. How nice to find a male who could care.
The other had been supposed to care. And she had been left with cubs that her young body had a hard time carrying.. that her mind had a hard time dealing with. Hell.. She had been left with cubs, being only a cub herself! At a year and a few months of age, the female was definately a younger female in the area.
But she had matured in her mind; with the onset of cubs, she had been sorely reproached. She knew someone up in the Gods, hated her for it. But she loved Adonis...A little.
"That's Adonis. My golden boy." She said with a little smile. He really hadnt been all that much trouble to raise.
"Its a pleasure Caelan."
Adonis's eyes sparkled as he nodded. "It does fit a strong lion! I will be one one day.." The cub chanted once more, truly excited at becoming big and strong, and able to keep up with his momma.
He smiled, cocking his head. Maybe this crane wouldnt be good eating.. It seemed much too intelligent, and he was becoming quite fond of him. "What do they call you?" Besides dinner to those other than me, he added in his mind.

"Oh, but the pleasure's all mine," he was quick to purr, lowering his head in a brief bow. He hadn't been raised in a manner others would call usual for a lion, no, but he had certainly been raised well. Even with his...overly amiable ways, he still knew how to be polite, and used his manners when the situation seemed to call for it.
This situation certainly called for it.
He certainly didn't think that he needed to up the charm to win this lovely lady; he was certain that she was already smitten with him. The females usually were. Still, he felt like he wanted to...well, it wasn't like Caelan to say he wanted to stay with a female, but he certainly wanted to keep her around for a while. She was gorgeous, she was kind, and...well, he certainly couldn't leave her alone to let some other male snatch her up! And he was certain that a lone female couldn't protect herself and her cub; when he glanced over to Adonis and Sir Gawain, he realized that he couldn't leave. Not just yet, anyway. "He's a cute little rascal. He must get it from his mom."
Having a beak made it difficult to smile, but the crane would have then if he had the mouth structure to. The little cub reminded him so much of Caelan when he was younger, so inquisitive and bright eyed and independent. For a second when he raised his head, he caught the eye of his companion, briefly glancing over from another one of his wooing ventures. They exchanged glances, and in that instant, Gawain knew; this was no wooing. Caelan was staying. And he would, too.
"They that call me anything call me Sir Gawain. But you can just call me Sir, if you'd like, Adonis. Adonis the little lion."

If Nyxie had been a stronger, wiser lioness, she probably would have not enjoyed the vain temper of the male.. But she was a youngster, who was looking for a quick fix in her life.
He seemed to be the fix she needed. He could be there for her. Maybe. She was tired of living out of a pride, and she was tired of raising cubs on her own.
"Soo... " She smiled. Time for the million dollar question. "Are you alone?" She asked ,tail flicking as her emerald orbs were glittering with mischeif. She wanted to make friends, and he was the prefect place to start.. _____________________________________________________________-
The cub chuckled, as his voice was still considered a giggle, but he refused to think of it as a giggle. He was supposed to be Masculine!! "Sir?" He snorted.
"I cant call you Gawain?" He asked, cocking his head and staring at him a bit. "I.. Use Sir for bigger lions." He said with another chuckle.
"But you travel with the big lion! So maybe I should call you Sir."

The female's inquiry made Caelan's ears p***k. My. He hadn't been expecting for her to be the one to ask the question. A ballsy little thing, wasn't she? He'd met full grown lions with less bravado than this lovely little lady had. In truth, it amused him, and a warm chuckle rumbled in his throat.
"Well, no, technically," he replied in a mock tone of disappointment before offering a slightly lopsided grin. "I travel with my buddy over there." He inclined his head towards the stork, then continued, "But he isn't much company. At least, certainly not as much as I imagine you might be."
The crane ruffled its feathers slightly at the cub's expression, but relaxed when Adonis finished his statement. "Yes. Perhaps you should," he was quick to retort. Ugh. Children. He had to wonder if Caelan was fully away of what he was getting himself into. ...still, it could prove to be a nice change of pace...

Nyxie smiled a bit, and nodded. So he was without a girl huh? Well she could change that, oh yes she could. She purred a bit, standing and approaching him a bit more and letting her tail flick under his chin.
"I like the sound of that. You know, I can be sensational company." She mused, and chuckled a bit in her seductive tone. She was young, but she was still just as womanly as any older female. ____
Adonis nodded, but shrugged. "Eh, time will tell, huh?" He mused, standing, and going to saunter over to the tree which carried a good bit of shade for the warm midday sun.
He yawned a bit, curling up and smiled. At least he knew he was special. And mother knew it too, thats all he needed.

"Is that so?" Caelan's ears rested against his head in a show of mock, playful aggression as he made a purposefully delayed snap at the female's tail, then rose to all fours and stalked after her. He was fully grown, yes, certainly, but now and then, his movements were briefly cub-like. This was one of those times. He batted at her tail before retaining his former almost regal composure, then arched his back in a purr as he came up alongside her. "Well, I'll have to test this out myself," he seemed to almost tease, rubbing his chin against her cheek before turning back to Gawain. For once in some time, he took his attention off of Nyxie.
"Sir Gawain! Let's head home. But, um..."
"You want me to show the cub how to hunt or something along those lines again, don't you," the crane drawled in a tone that made it clear this routine was nothing new. He barely looked at Caelan long enough to see the male's enthusiastic grin and nod, then lowered his head to tap Adonis' rump with his beak.
"Come on then, little lion. I think you'll be staying with us for a while."

She smiled, enjoying his playfulness and couldnt help but giggle. She nuzzled into his cheek, and a purr escaped her throat, as she closed her emerald eyes. She already was rather fond of this male. He had wooed her quite easily, and..She didnt want it to end yet.
"Id love for you to test it out." She teased, looking to Adonis.
"Come on Don." She called to him, motioning him to follow.
"Might we come along?" She purred, rubbing into him and letting her body heat warm his side.
