 Majani was trotting over the plains. It was a clear sky today and the sun was burning hot on his fur. Walking like this had made him thirsty and water was scarse these days.
He always had a hard time surviving in the dry season. Majani was part of the Ekala Adhãra pack but he often went out on his own. He liked to just stroll around a bit. Looking at the other animals and trying to hunt some of them would give him something to kill the time with.
Other than that, Majani always hoped he would bump into adventures. Adventure wouldn't come look for him. But today it was calm.. at least he thought. After a time a scent reached his nostrils. Fresh grass. He knew that scent also gave a sign of water nearby. Majani squeezed his eyes together and looked around him. He could see a flock of animals in the distance and decided to give it a shot.
Getting closer he saw he had been right. Animals were drinking out of a small pool. Majani accelerated his pace and quickly reached it. He was so thirsty he completely let down his guard and began drinking.

Minamo yawned and opened her eyes slowly to the bright glare of sunlight. She often slept during the day in the dry season, because it was just too darn hot to be active then. Stretching, she felt a dry itch in her throat. Slowly, she lumbered up to her paws, trying to shake the last, clinging dregs of sleep from her. Her eyes had adjusted to the light by now, and she slowly crept out of the cave that made her temporary home.
She'd deliberately chosen this cave for a reason, because it was close to a watering hole. What was previously a lake had shrunk badly over this season. Slowly, she headed towards it, making her way swiftly over the dry and dusty ground.
Soon she could see it. There were a couple of other animals there, which was nothing new. As she came closer, she noticed another lion there. Tilting her head for a second, she realized she hadn't seen any of her kind for a while. Running over, she noticed with a twinge of amusement that he was gulping down the precious water as though he'd never seen it before. Sitting down, she wondered when he'd realize that she was there.

When the feeling of thirst drifted away Majani lifted his head again. It felt like he had gulped up tons of water cause he could feel it his stomach. He should remember this place, it would come in handy whenever he needed water desperately again.
Majani straightened his back and strechted his legs. Feelings his muscles tighten up and relax always felt good.
When he looked around he saw that most animals had wandered off. Strange... normally they wouldn't see a lone lion as a big threat. But soon he spotted the cause of it. A lioness was sitting at the other side of the pool, staring a him. Majani could read the amusement off her face. He scolded silently at himself for letting his guard down. How long had she been spying on him and what was her business?
As far as he could see the lioness was alone too. But he wouldn't take any risks now. He put up guard, lowering his head and growling silently. He circled around the pool towards her.

Minamo watched as the lion slowly caught on the fact that someone else was there. A small smile toyed at the edges of her lips. It couldn't be much longer until he realized where she was. She sat calmly and still, waiting for the inevitable to happen. Suddenly, his gaze swung towards her. She was about to call a greeting, when he crouched and growled. I should have thought of that... not all lions like being snuck up on. He probably thinks I'm here to attack or something.
Rising to her paws, she waved her tail at him in a friendly manner. "Calm thy fury, warrior." She said jokingly, allowing her voice to rumble off into a purr at the end. "It's just me, and I'm not in the mood to fight." As he circled the pool, she sat still and retained her aura of calm. "I'm no threat." Almost as if to prove to point, she slowly pay down and folded one paw over the other, as though she were simply enjoying the sun and he wasn't there.

As Majani came closer it became clear the lioness meant no harm. He lifted his body up again. How dare she, making fun of me! But nonetheless he couldn't help to laugh about it. "This fury warrior thought the pure maiden had other plans with him." He called to her. Majani then walked towards her, ears straight out of interest.
The lioness was lying on her belly, paws folded looking totally relaxed. When Majani reached her he sat down. He was still a bit confused about her reaction. The lions he had encoutered before hadn't been so friendly. At first he tried to be friendly too, but most of them just snarled. And thus, after some time, he took over the behavior. "And what business does the pure maiden has here, if I may ask?"

Minamo couldn't help but smile as he laughed. The simple turning up of her lips made her whole face light up, even her eyes danced with joy. "The pure maiden is too nice and trusting to devise other plans." Her whiskers twitched good-humorously as she watched him slowly walk closer to her.
The lion looked slightly confused, but she was used to it. Most lions were a bit baffled when they saw her. Living alone, one usually learned to be hostile and aggressive, but seemingly it had done the opposite to Minamo. As he reached her, he sat down. "I live nearby, and I'm yet to find another source of water so I stick pretty close." She explained, "And may I ask the warrior's name?"

"Okay okay, let's cut the medieval stuff." Majani laughed. "My name's Majani." He purred. He hadn't joked with another lion in ages and his face was filled with amusement. His confusement ebbed away. Many questions spooked in his head for the strange lioness. He presumed she was a rogue but she wasn't agressive at all.
"You're reasons are logical enough." Majani said, his tail sweeping playfully. "But still, how has such a friendly lioness survived out here?"

With a chuckle, Minamo nodded in agreement. He seemed nice enough, now that he didn't look like he'd attack her. "I'm Minamo." She said, flicking her pink tail out across the dusty ground behind her. As the confusion left his face, she grinned. He was catching on-she wasn't crazy or anything, just sweet, but that was a rare quality for a lone lion like herself.
"Well, survival is simple. I hunt, eat, drink and sleep just like any other lion. And when I meet anyone knew I usually out-talk them, or if they persist with being mean I'll often try to talk them to death. Often, if you make it clear you're just trying to be friendly they'll calm right down. Course, I can still fight. I have to sometimes, but I try to avoid it." She paused for a second to catch her breath, "And how'd you come to be here? I haven't seen anyone for a while!"

Majani waved his tail happily. It has been days since he last met another lion and this was the first time the other lion was friendly. "I don't know how you've calmed other lions with friendly behaviour then. When I tried, all I got was a snarl and clawing paws." He grinned. "Maybe there's a difference between a clumsy lion and a charming lioness with a good speech." Majani paused for a second to see Minamo's reaction.
"And to answer your question, I've been traveling around. I don't try to stay on one place for a long time. Especially not at drinking pools, it's where most encounters happen. But I have to once in a while, or else I would die from thirst. It's weird you haven't met someone in these days."

For once, Minamo was stunned into almost silence. Her? A charming lioness? She could feel a blush creeping up, and was exceptionally happy that she had fur to cover it up at that moment. Opening her mouth, she paused for a few seconds to try and figure out what to say. No lion had ever complimented her like that. "I'd say you've got the charm factor settled down quiet well, shooting off compliments like that!"
Luckily, he carried on to answer her question and her shyness faded slightly. It wasn't like her to be shy. "Well, I guess this place is pretty secluded. Not that many lions know about, only those who stumble upon it by accident. Traveling around all the time must be rather tiring." She paused for a second, hesitating. "If you want, you could stay here for a while. If you want of course. There's some spare room in the cave, and it wouldn't be any bother. Having some company for a while would be nice."

Majani had to smile when he saw Minamo's reaction. Seeing her so shy revealed that she clearly wasn't used to getting compliments. "Why shouldn't I? Getting some compliments is healthy." He joked, waving his tail in amusement.
Then Minamo offered him to stay with her. She was right, travelling was tiring and lonely. Majani could use the company for a while and he liked her. She was a nice enough lioness. He cleared his throat to answer. "Well I'd like that Minamo. It would be nice to take a rest for a while. But don't you say that out of politeness! I don't want to be a hindrance."

Minamo couldn't help but agree with that. "Alright, you've got me there. Everyone needs a compliment every now and then!" Her voice was rumbling gently as a purr broke out from deep inside her chest. She hadn't been able to joke around with another lion like this for a while.
Rising to her paws, Minamo stretched gently, working the kinks out from her back. "It'd be no bother. In fact, it would be a great pleasure." Her lips were turned upwards in a smile that lit up her whole face. "Really, you wouldn't be a hindrance at all!"

Majani smiled as he heard Minamo's answer. "That's very kind of you." He said with a purr.
Suddenly his tummy rumbled loudly. Nice. Now she knew how hungry he was next to thirsty. Yesterday he managed to catch a hare, but it wasn't really chubby or something. He had been chewing the flesh off the bones to get his stomach filled. "So uh... Did you have breakfast this morning cause it's clear that I didn't!" He laughed, trying to laugh his blush away. Majani was glad they were with two now, it meant bigger prey. He swung his tail lightly. Hopefully she was in the mood to hunt.

Minamo let out a low laugh as his stomach growled. Rising to her feet, she padded over to the pond and took a quick drink of water, dipping her head neatly so her tongue could lap up the water. The cool liquid travelled down her throat soothingly, helping to keep the heat at bay. When she was done, she raised her head and took a quick look at the sky to assess the time of day.
With a quick nod, she flicked her tail eagerly. "There's a herd of deer not too far away. One of them is limping slightly, shouldn't be too hard of a kill. This way!" She crouched, her muscles moving fluidly beneath her pelt as the lioness felt her focus switch towards the hunt.
Sure, she wasn't too hungry, but one could never hunt too much at times like these. A lot of prey would be in hiding because of the heat, so it would be best to take any opportunity to fill her belly with something warm and savory. Padding forwards, she began to lead the way towards the deer herd she had been keeping an eye on for the past couple of weeks.

Majani quickly shaked off his embarrassement. He had better things to do now. Being this hungry he could eat a whole ox on his own if he wanted. But deer would do nicely. He hadn't eaten deer in a while. It was tasty meat. Majani licked his lips at the thought. Already mouthwatering. "I'm right behind you!" He said while lowering his belly closer to the grass.
He always enjoyed hunting. The feel of adrenaline rushing trough his body while chasing the prey. Most of the time he succeeded. Which he partly had to thank of his fur. His pelt was nearly as brown as the earth and the grass print on his front paw was good camouflage. If he lay still in the tall grasses he was nearly invisible.
Following Minamo he looked around. Still no deer.... even no smell of them. "Are you sure we're going in the right direction?" He asked her quietly.
